Where do you see Cotto now in P4P list?
Was Cotto impressive enough to replace Mosley's spot at #4, or B-hops' spot at #3? Will he remain at #5? Or did he hurt his p4p ranking? Please discuss.
-
Re: Where do you see Cotto now in P4P list?
No, Although he beat a guy bigger than him in the ring, he micro-inched a win so his movement is nowhere.
-
Re: Where do you see Cotto now in P4P list?
Stays the same... Not an impressive performance from Cotto tho he officially won this very close fight...
.
-
Re: Where do you see Cotto now in P4P list?
I think Cotto just cements the current number he's already in.
It was a close fight. Clottey was highly rated in his weightclass, but not in the P4P lists. Cotto also just edged the fight. It wasn't a wide decision win. I think Cotto did enough to not let anyone pass him P4P.
-
Re: Where do you see Cotto now in P4P list?
for me he either moves up one or stays the same. Cotto has beaten shane, clottey, quintana, judah, a lost to margarito (which now has a cloud over it) hes pretty much fought the best welters out there except for Berto which is more than i can say for floyd who i am a bigger fan of.
-
Re: Where do you see Cotto now in P4P list?
I think he should be the same. Cotto would've had a better outing if not for the bad cut he had to deal with for 9 rounds. But the p4p rankings are mythical and hard to make great sense out of. Cotto has done more at welterweight than Mosley but that one win for Mosley got him past Cotto. Even though Margarito was plaster-less in the Mosley fight.
-
Re: Where do you see Cotto now in P4P list?
I haven't seen his match with Joshua but it seems to be as much as a controversy as with Sugar Shane so I say: put him in a rematch with Clottey, once more with Moseley and with the results, I'll tell you where I do think he stands in the p4p list.

Re: Where do you see Cotto now in P4P list?
Some people talk about performance , why we can give credit to a boxer that came with strategy and when was cut by a unintentional headbut , had to change to another plan and give everything to the fan in where demostrated that could win with one eye and battled until end with courage ..............:)

That sounds like a little bit of sore grapes from you, because he beat the guy you predicted would win. I mean what do you expect ? i think we all knew Miguel Cotto wasn't going to be in for an easy ride.
He won a very close decision as most people expected it would be close. I mean Shane Mosley's victory over the cheater Antonio Margarito, isn't that special now we know what Antonio Margarito is.
And Miguel Cotto has a victory over Shane Mosley, aswell as a better resume than Shane Mosley in the last few years. So he does deserve to replace Shane Mosley.
Miguel Cotto had a cut eye very earlier on and he could of took advantage of that, by quitting the fight and going to the scorecards. Which he would of won.
But instead he fought on with a very bad cut and gutted out a win, over a very tough opponent i'd say that is an impressive victory.
-
Re: Where do you see Cotto now in P4P list?
He goes up slightly on mine, because he's erased some of the doubts I had post-Margarito, but it was not convincing enough to push him into the Top 10 for me. I felt Clottey won, but Cotto showed tremendous resilience in there.
-
Re: Where do you see Cotto now in P4P list?
I am kind of dissapointed with his performance, I think that cut definitely played a factor, but I really thought he would do a better job against CLottey.
Who does Cotto have on his resume thats better than Mosley has ICB?
Mosley had Vargas, Mayorga, Collazo, Margarito, Cotto.
Cotto had Urkal, Quintana, Judah, Mosley, Margarito, Clottey ... it really isn't that much more impressive.

You left out ODLH & I'd class the David Estrada he fought on the same level as Urkal

Re: Where do you see Cotto now in P4P list?
I would personally have him over Mosley.
-
Re: Where do you see Cotto now in P4P list?
He might move up a spot on my edited P4P rankings.

if we're gonna talk about in the welterweight division, Vargas and Mayorga were at 154, he lost to Cotto, and he'd have a W over DLH, so it'd be more like
Mosley:Collazo, DLH, Margarito
Cotto: Mosley, Quintana, Judah, Clottey

Well of course he beats Moselys place. Mosely should not be in top 30 never mind 4. Was Cotto impressive? Nope.

Apparently the good sh*t! If you don't have Mosley in your top 30, you don't watch boxing.

Not a bit of sourgraping... It's my honest opinion and most people here stated the same opinion...;)
Yes I pick Clottey to win even if he was a heavy underdog... Honestly, I'm more satisfied with Clottey's performance... He made it a very tough fight for Cotto and many people had Clottey the winner in their scorecards... IMO Clottey "soften" Cotto more...
I have no problems with Cotto winning officially... It's a close fight that could go either way but I felt Clottey won... There's no shame with my pick since Clottey gave a hell of a fight... Not like some boxers who goes to the fight acting like a total dumbsh!t and ended up laid out flat on the canvass... That's one case where you felt ashamed and dumb for picking such boxers...

You're more than welcome to check it, its on the first page of the P4P thread. I currently have him at 14, no higher because I felt he lost last night & there are fighters whose skill levels I rate higher than him & others whose performances have impressed me more over the past year

Re: Where do you see Cotto now in P4P list?
I still have Cotto in #5. But one more brilliant performance fight by PWill before Nov 14 might change that.

It's OK being KO'ed cold as long as you're fighting smart... KO'ed cold is one possible outcome of a boxing fight... Fighting dumb is unacceptable, I'll feel bad if the boxer I'm supporting is fighting dumb...

I'm not sure what you are trying to say there, but both Mosley and Cotto have had great competition of late, I don't see the point in trying to compare who has foughten whom because they both have foughten top notch guys lately, and both have for the majority looked good against that tough opposition. I just thought Cotto would use his superior power to make a large impression against CLottey, but his defense wasn't as good as I thought it would be, and I honestly think if Clottey had thrown more he would have won, but it just doesn't make sense to me because when COtto backed up him up, Miguel was so effective, like when he fought Mosely, but once again he doesn't fold mentally, but he gives up on pressure when he can't put a guy away, and I don't understand it. Cotto is so effective when he stands his ground, and he doesn't quite have the defensive skills or mobility to move properly against elite pressure fighters.

I really agree in this , what you been saying , but that kind of cut couldnt let him to take the risk to stand his ground , certainly i thought that when he began , he would going fight with that strategy , but had to change to another plan with lateral movement , but i agree in someway , he needs to improve little more his defensive with that kind of fighters..........

Re: Where do you see Cotto now in P4P list?
I was one of those people that expected Cotto to win but in a better scenario. First of all, this opponent hurt him with a head butt and he fought on. I expected Cotto to box circles around him but he bled profusely and Clottey, I take nothing away from him made it an ugly fight and he was physical. Cotto landed the more telling punches and stole a round with a left hook. In the mythical P4P which doesn't mean a thing, you have a fighter that came back from a terrible defeat, possibly because of those illegally wrapped hands. He swallowed the blood and hung in there because when adversity strikes, the best or the worst comes out of you and guess what, I am a Mosley fan and Mosley started at a lower weight to get championships in higher divisions facing bigger men than him had the misfortune of meeting a fighter with a will to win just like him. I take away credit from neither of these warriors.

Re: Where do you see Cotto now in P4P list?
I think he should be just ahead of Shane. Coot is still unbetaen imo ;)
