Is Money Mayweather going Skint ?!?!
Just doing my usual surfing and came across this.
Big payday could help Mayweather fend off IRS - Yahoo! News
says he in debt for $6.4 million to the Internal Revenue as well as other debts.
surly not, if he's skint then he would go down as one of the dumbest p4p's in the sport :-X

Re: Is Money Mayweather going Skint ?!?!
i think its all talk to be honest i no mayweather might be a bit daft when it comes to lookin after money, but surely one of his advisors(ellerbe) would of made sure the irs was paid straight away after each paycheck. its just the natural thing to do surely, i think the press see him throwing money to crowds in night clubs and they feed of that, and then come up with this for a story, but u never no there might be some truth to it

Well this is not some gossip mag that came up with this story. The Associated Press is a reputable news source, and they are going by public records that are filed with the government.
Trust me the IRS doesn't fuk around, and they wouldn't file a lien, unless they felt he didn't pay, or he didn't pay enough, which I think is probably more the case.
And Ellerbee cracks me up, I've never seen a bigger "Yes Man" in all my life. This line cracked me up.
Asked about the liens that had been resolved, Ellerbe said: "We're talking about what's going on right now. I'm sure you might have been two days late paying your rent two, five years ago."
Ummm, they don't file liens if you are only two days late in paying your rent.
And Mayweather probably can move around, as Ellerbee says, because he is probably cooperating with the IRS, unlike Wesley Snipes who was running away from the responsibility, until he finally got caught.
In short, it wouldn't surprise me that he is dumb with his money. It happens, just ask Evander Holyfield, and Mike Tyson.

Re: Is Money Mayweather going Skint ?!?!
He's definately over spent.
Now that he's had a taste of the good life, nothing comes cheap any more. I don't wish him broke or anything, but after you have tossed so many hundos into the camera and called yourself 'money' you have to admit, it is a bit lol'ish.
He's got the talent in the ring tho, no questioning that, and drawing power for crazy PPV numbers with Pac. Hope it all works out, for boxings sake.

Re: Is Money Mayweather going Skint ?!?!
People forget when your extremely well off and terribly uneducated in finances you tend to invest in everything under the sun, cousins barber shop, apartment buildings etc and there is no way in hell you can personally keep track of all that stuff.. Next thing you know you got your hand in 20 different things with people in place who clearly dont belong. People who are Rich like Floyd usually hire people to make sure the bills and IRS get paid, so I wont be quick to call Floyd a low life when chances are he didnt know till the eleventh hour his balls were on the band saw.
We tend to always focus on what comes in the front door with our finances and we neglect what goes out the back and trust me if your not disciplined, the backdoor has one hell of a draft, couple that with Floyds lavish lifestyle and you get into trouble.
Floyd has so much shit that I'm sure if he was really screwed and that strapped, he could start liquidating cars and jewlery.
One good fight purse and he should be there or more than half way there. I mean he is 31-32 still in his prime and severly under mileage, he is lucky he's not as old as Tyson or Holyfield and in this fuckaro

Re: Is Money Mayweather going Skint ?!?!
It could very be:
After his DLH Match, Floyd was bragging that within the end of the year he would be billionaire and he stated: "the only thing I can say is that I went from the Ring to Wall Street".... it was a few months before the huge crash, he could definitely have lose a lot of money on his way to become "billionaire" hehe.

Re: Is Money Mayweather going Skint ?!?!
Money Mayweather is now No Money Mayweather.
There's an easy way to make sure you never run into payment problems with the IRS or other tax authorities. You simply calculate how much tax you owe every year based on how much you made that year and keep that amount in your account so that you have no problems when it comes to paying your tax bill! 99+% of Americans manage to do this just fine every year despite not making the sums Floyd does and despite not having access to the same tax professionals to manage his money that Floyd does.
I can remember reading Bob Arum quoted after Floyd retired and he said Floyd will definitely be back, he has no concept of how to manage his finances and literally throws his money away.
For Floyd to be this badly in debt five minutes after retiring is bad news. It means he's probably going to carry on being insanely profligate, blow all his dough again and keep on making comebacks (asuming he's still marketable after this one and doesn't get his arse kicked) until the point where he can't make money anymore and is reduced to a burnt out penniless shell, like his dad but with no cash, looking for fighters to train. I really hope I'm wrong, I'm so sick of seeing this. Look at Holyfield, a guy I have the utmost admiration and respect for. To achieve what he did by winning the title, then to go through the heart/hepatitis problems and have the career he did, and now he's losing his house (so I read last week) and scratching round still for fights when he's taken far too many punches. It's all so depressing.
I hope somehow Floyd is solvent but I also read this last week and read stuff previously about how he was claiming he's set trust funds up for his kids and owns his house so I'm guessing other than his house he's potless (or probably six and a half milion in debt, needs to downgrade his living accomodations.) Hopefully he makes a ton of money with this comeback, entertains us all and rides off into a much more fiscally responsible sunset. Probably not though. :(

Re: Is Money Mayweather going Skint ?!?!
I would have thought that 'Moneyweather' would have the best financial adviser possible, then again i thought De La Hoya would have had the best dietitian possible and checked his weight now and again. Who knows how these guys get them selves into financial difficulty, i wish i could earn $20 million and find out!!!

Fighters are known to have their first IRS debt paid when they recieve a check for their purse but somehow forget they still owe every year for other things, Luxery taxes, home taxes, interest tax etc.
Many of fighters over the years have fallen victim to the govt taxation. Floyd would not be anything new, just another story of an arrogant ass who thinks they know everything falling on their face because of a stupid error

Re: Is Money Mayweather going Skint ?!?!
You know Kirkland, part of that elite 1% that did have trouble paying taxes works for YOUR BOY Obama. ;D
Maybe Floyd should get into politics...Tim Geithner, Tom Daschell, Ron Kirk, Nancy Killefer, Hilda Solis, and Charles Rangel all had tax "issues" but since they were tight with Obama all they had to do was say they were sorry.

If I was going to reply to this total nonsense it wouldn't be on the boxing board.

Well I was just saying if Floyd was in tax trouble then perhaps he should do what those people did as they didn't suffer any harsh consequences.....I was only trying to help Kirkland ;D
