Bilbo's moral dilemmas, what would YOU do if you were a friend of OJ?
Ok just for a fun and lively discussion I thought we could have a nice moral debate on really tough issues.
Ok, your best friend is cheating on his girlfriend or wife.
Do you,
A) Do nothing, it's your mate, he can do what he wants, your loyalties lie with him not her.
B) Don't tell her but stress to him you are really disappointed in him and maybe even end your friendship with him over it, but you would draw the line at telling her
C) Be glad his focus is elswhere so he won't realise you've been banging his girl!
D) Warn him to stop, and if he doesn't tell his partner, Cheating is wrong no matter who does it.
E) Tell her, not because you have an upright conscience, but because you know she will be devastated and desperate for payback, and you just 'happen' to 'be there'.
Ok my own choice here is I would do absolutely nothing, its none of my business. This isn't a sexist thing though, if it was one of my girl mates and she was screwing around my loyalties would be with my girl friend. If they were BOTH really good friends of mine, I have to be honest, I'd side with the guy, sorry but that's the way I am, bro's before hoe's and all that.
Ok question 2.
The person you are closest to in the world has a lousy, miserable wench for a wife or husband who he hates.
Anyway he/she dies suspiciously and this person breaks down and confesses to you that they did it, because they were pushed over the edge. They beg you not to tell anyone.
Do you.
A) Call the police and get them arrested. They are a murderer and you have no time for scum like that.
B) Be sympathetic but tell them they MUST turn him themselves in and if not you will eventually tell the police, although you will give them some time to attempt to get away they chooses to do a runner. You will remain their friend/son/daughter/mum/dad though, and keep in contact with them in prison and help them get back on his feet if/when he finally gets out.
C) Keep your mouth shut, you're loyalties lie with this one person more than anyone else in the world. Although you won't proactively help cover their crime or testify that they were with you, you will if asked by the police tell them they were an excellent character and you would not suspect them being capable for a minute. Then if they got off, you'd both promise to bury this horrible secret for ever.
D) Tell him, 'Don't worry we are in this together, I will do my utmost to keep you out of jail and I'll do anything I can to save you. Then you would proactively try and help them get rid of evidence, provide them with an alibi etc.
Ok this one was REAL tough for me. If it was a mate, even my best one I'd lean towards option 2, because no way could I live with the guilt of knowing someone killed somebody. I couldn't have it on my conscience and I'd eventually crack and have to tell somebody.
BUT if it was my mum or my brother, shit I'd be right there with them. I really don't know what I would do. A & C. The second question it depends, killing their partner is kinda bad, but still if that's my boy than I wouldn't tell them to give themselves up unless it was something they said they wanted to do.

The first one is easy it's A, no doubt. I have a friend who has 2 girlfriends, he has his own place and while neither live with him, both pay half the rent for him. Crazy, craziness and he cheats all the time and I've met them both. No way I would ever say anything and I pay extra attention to not slipping when I'm drunk or high.
The second one, it all depends. If it was a sick, premeditated murder where the details disgusted me and it was found out that my friend wasn't who he thought it was then yeah. Most likely I would just advise him to leave before police started knocking on my door.

In question 1 I would choose a mixture of A and B. It's not about loyalty for me, it's just that I think other people are free to make their own decisions regarding their own marriages and it is not for me to interfere. If he asked my opinion I would give it though and that opinion would indicate a certain displeasure at what he was doing. I wouldn't just stop being friends with someone though. At the end of the day it is his choice, for better or worse.
Question 2 is more difficult for me. Perhaps I would choose C too. I don't think murder is acceptable and think the person should get out of the marriage rather than resort to murder. After all, it's not all that hard to get a divorce and keep a decent pot of the money. But it has come to it and the closest person has indeed commited the crime. Yeah, I wouldn't lie. The person did what they did and so I couldn't just cover it up. It was wrong to kill, but I would understand the bad experience and how the person is generally a decent but beaten down person. I would have no issues with attesting to the persons character. Now if they were to do it again.....well, send the twat to jail for life. No need to keep on killing.

I'd have to stay out of #1 by leaning towards A.It really depends on who she is cheating with.If its me than she has zero to worry about :-X
The second is a case of buyer beware.She married the guy...not me and should have done her homework.If he's abusive & threatning and,I may beat his azz for her.But if she just knifes the guy for eating her yogart and mysterious didgits on his phone.Shes toast and will be wearing the orange jumpsuit with over sized shower shoes yelling for the deputy and her phone call.

1st one for me is B....though modfied a bit. I just got off the phone with my best friend. Known him for 8 years and I swear he's banging 3-4 different girls every week. I tell him and tell him it's not cool and he agrees, but it doesn't stop him. I don't really know Melisa all that well but I wouldn't tell her; for one I'm sure she knows as he's been caught before; for two it's not my business. But I wouldn't end a friendship over it; I have no right to judge that harshly and abandoning someone as a friend is as low as cheating on your spouse; all you can do is keep on them about it or just not pay attention.
And he's not the only guy I know; hell I don't have a friend who doesn't cheat. A guy I haven't been friendly with in a couple of years used to brag about going to church and picking up women there if his wife wasn't with him; and when I said how cold that was he said he was forgiven when he asked God each week:rolleyes: He said he felt bad but couldn't help being so horny; seriously.
As for #2 morality question...it depends on the situation.
It wouldn't matter if it was a friend of mine or not; it all depends on who and why. Some people need killing and usually ask for it lol. Some get it for no other reason than because they were there. Case by case for me.
If I was in the car with my friend and he hit and killed someone, I would definately tell him to stop and call the police or I would.
If someone got caught stealing from my friend, or a fight got out of control due to the other person and he got snuffed, or someone got caught messing with kids, not only would I not say anything I'd probably help him clean up if not more. I'm all for damming up rivers with carcasses if they want it bad enough. Though we need laws and law enforcement; in many cases they just provide lip and janitorial services for clean up duties, and cases that deserve justice sit for years without a satisfactory conclusion. And prisons do nothing but make people worse 99.9% of the time. I say kill people. This guy here is a perfect example of needing to be erased out of the equation. You telling me you'd be so upset over this guy getting whacked you'd snitch your friend?

Hell, if my friend dropped somebody in most circumstances, I'd have his back, if he put that motherfukka down, I'd buy him drinks for a year & help his dispose of the body. Although that story was ridiculously sensationalized, that guy didn't even seem real, he was a cliche paedo nutjob, how the hell he's not alone in a mental institution I don't know :confused:

The thing is though the reporter got it wrong in claiming he abused young boys.
They were aged 13 and 16. In the good old UK thanks to gay lobby the labour governemt lowered the age of male AND female buggery to 16, although personally I'd have arrested the weirdo's who were campaigning for that than actually give into their demands but still.
So anyway, technically although the younger brother at 13 was illegal, Geoff could need not feel ashamed about ramming his 16 year old brother up the bum, because it's all fine and above board, at least if he was a UK citizen.
Also and I know I open myself to criticism saying this but when I think of pedo's I think of people forcing themselves on children unwillingly, these were a couple of (fucking weird) lads who voluntarily went round to his house to get noshed off.
It's not like he was an uncle or someone, they just went round to have some play time with Uncle Geoff, so they are almost as weird as him imo.

Now, if I was friends with the girl too it would be a different story (assuming my level of friendship with the girl was equal to or above that of my friendship with him). I'd tell him to stop/tell her or I would tell her what was going on.

The cheating thing is a weird thing.
Back in 98' I found out, through recording my girlfriends phone calls, that she was getting her tank refilled by 3 different guys. I had known something might be going on but the naivety at that time in me was comical to say the least.
My friend who lived on my street knew what was going on just because, well, he wasn't naive; alot younger but oh so much wiser in that area; plus he saw things. Finding out for myself, though he tried to hint at it several times through little things he said for about a year, was the best thing for me, as I grew up in many ways. You won't pull that sh#t on me anymore; so basically I'm saying I am glad I wasn't told, did me better in the long run working it out for myself. I'm just glad I hadn't fukked her for quite a while. And she better be glad the HIV tests came back negative or we would have been having one last, intimate moment together snacking on a 9mm.

C) Keep your mouth shut, you're loyalties lie with this one person more than anyone else in the world. Although you won't proactively help cover their crime or testify that they were with you, you will if asked by the police tell them they were an excellent character and you would not suspect them being capable for a minute. Then if they got off, you'd both promise to bury this horrible secret for ever.

I've seen first hand where everyman and his dog has known someone has been cheating - the spouse is always last to know. Not only have they been lied to by their partner their friends have witheld info, they feel betrayed over again. How people can call themselves a friend and NOT tell you I don't know.

Q2. Depends - hopefully if they were a friend I would have been able to steer them away from said shithouse. If they've been abused I'd consider it payback. First one, A. I'm equal opportunity here. By far most of my good friends over the years have been guys but not all and I've seen a friend of mine cheat on her boyfriend and I didn't say anything.
Second, it depends I guess, "lousy and miserable" can mean somebody that watches American Idol or it could mean a wife beater. Somewhere between B and C I guess depending on how bad the husband is.
