Yeah, Cotto-Clottey and Froch-Taylor were both good match-ups.
Upcoming ones
Pac-Cotto = mega
Marquez-Floyd = good-ish/semi-mega
Vitali-Arreola = good/mismatch
Haye-Valuev = good/interesting
Dawson-Johnson = good/interesting
Froch-Dirrell, Taylor-Abraham = very good.
Bute-Andrade = good.
Can't think of any others. There must be more?

Yeah I was thinking the same thing myself. I just hope the 2nd half of year comes through and no injuries occur with the super 6 PBF vs JMM and the heavyweight titles. Watch Lacy vs Jones be the highlight of the year.
Boxing in 2009 has been pretty crappy but 90% of the people on this forum had a major problem with the Cotto-Pacman fight because it's a catchweight at 145.
Imagine if that fight was scrap and what would be the biggest fight? Floyd-Marquez where it's an absolute mismatch?

If you are looking at the TV aspect, the UK has been pounded into submission, with Setanta going tits up and most other events being strictly PPV. I don't know that it's strictly a boxing popularity aspect, rather people pinching pennies to the detriment of "luxury" tv in general.Quote:

How many big fights have we named in this thread though? 10? Of those only one was a crossover job - Hatton-Pac, yet even that did "poor" PPV numbers, compared with previous Hatton fights, in Britain.
Looking at this again, I think the problem is the current crop of active fighters have just not been fighting enough. What's everyone waiting for?

Ortiz/Maidana another war (with a little dissapointing ending).
To be honest man, I know I'm spoiled cause here in the US we have ESPN2, Vs., HBO, Showtime, telefutura, telemundo, azteca, and the occassional Fox Sports (maybe once a year). And while on that side of the pond you can stream it all, it's often on inconvinient times for the casual viewer.

Yeah commercially, and in terms of getting fights to the masses its been a bit of a disaster.
Carl Froch should be a household name in the UK but outside of boxing fans nobody has heard of him, which is disgraceful.
And Margarito against Mosely was a proper fightfans fight for chance to be THE man in the THE best weight class in boxing, and again should have been a big sporting occasion.
PPV has ruined the sport, and with Setanta gone and terrestial telly not interested in boxing its certainly gone to the dogs I agree with you on that 100%

Not mega but big. I think there have been a few big fights less this years due to the recession.
I agree that its been a bit of a slow year. Recent months have been lagging horribly with all the cancellations and delays. The Hatton fight was big but wasn't a pleasant thing so I have kind of erased that from my mind, but apart from that just a straggle of fights that you could say were quality.
If Floyd gets Knocked Out, it will be a great year!
