Pavlik & Williams agree to terms, will fight on October 3rd
Well according to ESPN, they agreed to terms, and it looks like the fight is on.
I am obviously pissed, because they fukking screwed Sergio over big time on this, not only did they screw him out of a title fight by not honoring the contract, but they kept him from getting another fight all this time.
I'm waiting to hear from Sergio, to find out what happened.
I bet Arum paid Sergio off big time, but I bet that won't be reported anywhere.

ha, I was just about to post this.
I like it. A lot actually.
I might favor Williams, but I think people are probably underrating Pav after the Hopkins fight.

If Pavlik had a hard time with Hopkin's volume, what chance does he stand against Williams. I may be underestimating Pavlik and I hope so for the sake of an interesting fight, but Williams should look really good against anyone that doesn't have amazing footwork...............

Re: Pavlik & Williams agree to terms, will fight on October 3rd
Cool.Much love Diane but Sergio can wait ;D.Don't think either guy had many massive options.Year ago would give Williams no shot but I'm 50-50 now...dont really care who wins, not much to the imagination really. Two guys who impose their wills and have much pressure.Whats not to like :shinner:

Williams is goin to do some work on Pavlik's face.:D

I don't think it was Hopkins volume, he didn't really throw that much if I remember correctly (well for him he did but not compared to many guys), its just Hopkins, nobody looks good against him, granted Pav looked worse than most but that's not really shocking, Pavlik is everything Hopkins could ever want stylistically, a guy that's slow of hand and foot and needs to be set to punch is always gonna have problems with Hopkins movement and Hopkins is probably still the best in boxing at taking away a fighters jab and if you watch Pavlik everything he does revolves around the jab, everything starts with it, the jab-right hand is his meal ticket. Take it away, make him hesitant to throw it and he's SOL. Really I picked Hopkins to win at the time but looking back I'm surprised I had any doubt, Pav was perfect for him.
Williams will bring a lot more volume but he'll be a much bigger target for Kelly, he's just not as slick as Bernard. He does move pretty well too which will trouble Kelly I think. That and Paul's volume could keep Pav on the defensive. So I'll probably pick Paul but Pav has chances here that weren't there against Hopkins, he'll land more right hands.

Re: Pavlik & Williams agree to terms, will fight on October 3rd
Finally P. Williams fighting in his rightful weightclass. Paul will have the speed and workrate edge here. Kelly should put on the pressure early on impose his power advantage from the get go. This is a toss up but I'll be praying hard that Kelly wins big via Kayo. GO KELLY!!!!!!!!!!!

Williams is gonna be ducked no matter what, the guy is a freak of nature from the junior middleweights down. Kelly being the stronger guy in there, I'm still scared for him facing Williams:-\
-
Re: Pavlik & Williams agree to terms, will fight on October 3rd
Williams winning this fight will just cause him to be ducked even more. I see this being a pretty lop sided fight. Pavlik I think is on the decline since the loss to B-Hop. Breaking windows with his fists, getting hammered to the point of needing to goto rehab, punches fans in the junk. Very much looking forward to it as it is another great notch to have on his belt.
-
Re: Pavlik & Williams agree to terms, will fight on October 3rd
I'm a big fan of Williams, but he's nowhere near as crafty as Hopkins and his chin has never been tested the way it's going to be tested in this fight. He also doesn't have the power to keep Pavlik wary and off of him. Great fight though and I'm glad it got made. Even if Williams loses, with his style this exposure should make him a more marketable fighter.
Pavlik by mid-round TKO in a FOTY candidate.

Williams doesn't only bring volume he also brings a 20 foot reach. In the B-Hop fight fight, I really believe the Hopkins volume and constant pressure are what won that fight for him, he had Kelly doing a Winky Wright defense impression all night.

Re: Pavlik & Williams agree to terms, will fight on October 3rd
Really split on how Williams should fight him.We know Pavlik, what you see is pretty much what you get, forward motion wrecking ball......I think it'll come down to Williams style....he rarely (Margarito fight) fights tall and uses natural freaky tools.More commonly bends in,head up but with huuuuge volume.Mixed it nice with Verno, head to body.Have to lean even more so to Pavlik.Rue Paul has to repect that straight power, and he gets clipped quite a bit.
Can they just move things forward and make this one for nextweek;D

Put this on the Jones - Lacy undercard and all of a sudden I'm paying for it.

Re: Pavlik & Williams agree to terms, will fight on October 3rd
Two fighters who stand flat-footed, let their hands go, and "hit and get hit."
Great matchup. I can't wait.
-
Re: Pavlik & Williams agree to terms, will fight on October 3rd
Man this is a good fight! Really glad they got it sorted, hard fight to pick imo... might have to slightly favor Pavlik at 1st glance but might end up changing my mind the closer it gets to fight time!
-
Re: Pavlik & Williams agree to terms, will fight on October 3rd
Williams is slick but kelly will have plenty of chances to tag him. Even after the bernard loss I favor kelly in this, that fight was above 160, and in both instances against jt and bhop weight above 160 kelly just doesn't seem as good. Granted the bhop fight could have been fought at whatever weight and he would have lost it.
-
Re: Pavlik & Williams agree to terms, will fight on October 3rd
This will be a great fight!
Not sure who will win. Pavlik obviously has doubts surrounding him following his loss to B Hop but I really believe that was more to do with Pavlik having the worst night of his career rather than him being outboxed as comprehensively as some think. I'd still fancy Pavliks chances in a rematch with Hopkins, I don't think he gave anywhere near his best that night.
Williams is a real threat but he did fade a little against Margarito in the final rounds, although at welter I'm guessing he has to struggle hard to make that weight.
We know Pavlik can go 12 rounds and he can really bang. Williams has always looked fragile although at 168 he will have clearly filled out.
I really can't call it. I'd like Kelly to pull it off, everyone seems to have hopped onto that bandwagon following his sensational KO wins over Miranda and Taylor, and then all got off at the first stop following his uninspired defeat to B Hop.
He showed against Rubio though that he is excellent at wearing down and demoralising decent opposition and it will be interesting to see how Williams reacts to that.
I actually think there is a chance Williams could get stopped on cuts, I think he's going to get bloodied up a bit, although he's always seemed a suprisingly durable guy for his frail, bony form so I think he will survive the distance otherwise.

Re: Pavlik & Williams agree to terms, will fight on October 3rd
this is awesome news.
it's really hard to call this fight as you can't really pin which style PW will use.. He has the skills to outwork kelly and to move around the ring away from kelly's power, and if he keeps him at bay with his jab then he has a good chance at a wide UD.. but when have we really seen PW do this? he may be in over his head, but it will really be hard to tell until they're in the ring and we see how big the speed difference is, and how PW approaches kelly..
i say pavlik by KO.. not TKO, KO.

yeah I mean that just a typo.
50/50 matchup imo

Re: Pavlik & Williams agree to terms, will fight on October 3rd
Awesome news. :)
If it goes the distance, then it is Williams. Because he would have out out-volumed Kelly. He is an absolute punch machine.
Interesting fight at 160. If Pavlik can retain his power, then I don't expect it to go the distance and be a 7-8 rd KO. Williams doesn't have the durability to last with a hard puncher. Kelly does.
I like both fighters, but am a Pavlik fan and honestly think this is his to win.
Hopefully he don't go batshit crazy before it and ball punch too many more fans, or drink 3 gallons of whiskey and try to bellyflop hammer smash his promoter from atop his barn, or, or...well, you know. :alcoholic:

Re: Pavlik & Williams agree to terms, will fight on October 3rd
I think Pavlik lays him out. Williams poor defense will haunt him
-
Re: Pavlik & Williams agree to terms, will fight on October 3rd
I know it's an obvious statement but I think it all hinges on KP's prepearation and whether he gives it 100%, after dome of the recent stories we've been hearing it would appear he needs to re focus. Hopefully all just gossip.
-
Re: Pavlik & Williams agree to terms, will fight on October 3rd
Pavlik's only chance is to land his big right hand and that's about it.
-
Re: Pavlik & Williams agree to terms, will fight on October 3rd
I hope Pavlik has his life away from boxing in order coming into this fight also... It was sad reading that he went on a bit of a downer after the Hopkins fight... It really was a destroying fight for Pavlik, and not just for the 12 rounds, but you could see his heart was broken after that fight... A bit like Hatton in the interviews after his Pac KO, those sort of beatings make you go off and think about your whole life.... What you thought was one thing you're whole career is suddenly totally gone...
I hope Pavlik is getting his shit back in alignment and comes back as big and as strong as he was before Hopkins... He's a good dimension for boxing, a real likeable guy, and it would at least be great to see him do good in this fight even if Williams is to much.. Williams is exciting in his own right so providing Pavlik shows up with his shit together it'll be a great fight whoever wins..
-
Re: Pavlik & Williams agree to terms, will fight on October 3rd
Williams can be hit, and Kelly can punch, so Kelly certainly has a chance. Still leaning towards Williams as he can work all day when not drained, seems to be more confidence in his own work as well compared to the late rounds in his breakout fight against Marg.
Williams by wide UD after having his chin tested a few times.
-
Re: Pavlik & Williams agree to terms, will fight on October 3rd
Im all for Williams' Bravery (as iv'e always said Williams shed's shit loads of weight for a reason) and i was happy to see Williams offering his services as high up as 168... But i didn't think he'd take on the best 160lbs'er out there... He's gonna get abused by Pavlik!
Williams can take on the ex-junior-middleweights and the big welters and so on but this Genuine 160 pound monster will ruin Paul Williams.

I think Williams stops Pavlik late...he's a southpaw, he can carry his power, he throws punches in volume, and he's got a very solid chin, I am sure he will pay close attention to defense fighting someone like Pavlik.

Re: Pavlik & Williams agree to terms, will fight on October 3rd
I give Pavlik a punchers chance, but even his Legendary concussive right has been showed to be a bit overrated.
Kelly Absolutely has to set his feet before he throws, if you look at any Pavlik fight thats apparent, if he dosent have a chance to set his feet then he pushes his punches and looks terribly awkward...
Williams has great Rythm, footwork and volume.. I can see him stopping Pavlik quite easily 9-10. Kelly is a basic 1-2 fighter who tries to apply pressure, he dosent have plan B and as long as that cocky bastard Loew trains him he will never get any better since they are all under the assumption that his opponents are going to stand in front of Kelly and allow him to punch a whole through them.
Williams volume and agression is scary, he will punch kelly anywhere and every were, he can fight long he can fight short on the inside, when tied up he does that crazy shit where he uppercuts across his body with his free hand that looks 10ft long. He will side step, turn and spin Pavlik around the whole fight..

Yeah, not sure how effective Jack Loew's only plan of a double jab, and throwing the overhand right will be. ;)
Only because I don't like the way Pavlik dicked Sergio around, I hope Williams beats him convincingly. Not sure it will happen, just hoping. ;D

Williams by TKO/KO?! I mean, i think it's a fair fight, but I don't see Williams knocking out Kelly.. BHOP landed plenty of flush shots and all it did was stun him.. Taylor landed some bombs and almost had him out but couldn't finish.. I don't think Williams should even think of going into this fight with KO on his mind because that will mean he will have to sit on his punches a bit more, leaving him more vulnerable to get hit. He will need to punch and move like he normally does.
-
Re: Pavlik & Williams agree to terms, will fight on October 3rd
I think Pavlik beats Williams. If Williams can be stunned by a welterweight easily as Quintana and Margarito has shown. I think Pavlik will stop him. Once Williams get's hit by one of Kelly's power shots to the body I don't think Williams' skinny rail of a frame will hold up to that type of power. Williams will give him fits but he will not hurt Kelly. Kelly by TKO.
-
Re: Pavlik & Williams agree to terms, will fight on October 3rd
Williams on points or a Pavlik KO. Either the Hopkins fight or something affected Pavlik, I'm sure not all the negative stuff we've heard recently is all true but he's definitely having problems. But he's going to be punching hard at 160 and that's his best chance. It could be fight of the year.
-
Re: Pavlik & Williams agree to terms, will fight on October 3rd
I think it'll be the same song and dance, pavlik will land some shots yes, but the couple of extremly hard ones in comparison to the two and a half million williams will throw will be the difference. Like trying to swat a bunch of flies with a tennis racket with two strings he'll get a couple but not nearly enough.
-
Re: Pavlik & Williams agree to terms, will fight on October 3rd
Another angle to look at is Williams punch output. I've said this quite a few times Williams does have a high punch output but Pavlik himself throws 100 punches a round. And with power behind it. Williams could throw more than 100 punches a round against welterweight's and against a frozen Winky Wright. I just want to see now if Williams can do it with someone who is just as tall as him, will be much bigger, and constantly pressuring him. Kelly is no defensive wizard nor a boxer. His game is pressure and honestly Margarito didn't even put much pressure on Williams until the very late stages of the fight and still landed with great effect on Williams. This will be a FOTY candidate without a doubt but it could end quickly with Kelly being the victor IMO.
-
Re: Pavlik & Williams agree to terms, will fight on October 3rd
I was never sold on Pavlik. He has a good punch and that's about it. Easy win for Williams. You heard me, Easy.
