My final thoughts on JMM vs PBF
Love em both 2 of my favorites, my loyalty is with Mayweather 1st and foremost and I do believe Floyd will stop him late, though there is a part of me that is rooting for JMM to do something special, I cant think of a classier fighter and warrior who has put on so many sensational battles..
I just finished watching JMM vs Diaz again, and early on you could see JMM wasnt comfortable with the pace and pressure, in between rounds early on he looked knackered and weary but yet he willed himself on through the storm of Diaz exceeding his punch out put and making the adjustments despite taking some good punishment on his way to a heart stopping sizzling knock out...
The guy is a special fighter a blood and guts competitor who is cerebral and dynamic to go along with unrelenting determination and thats why he is my favorite all time Mexican fighter because when he is in the ring you know he always seems to be in complete control or always a moment away from it even if he faces adversity...
I just think that Floyd is to much coupled with the size advantage, Mayweather will force Juan to apply the pressure and that will negate some of his counter punching oppurtunities... I havent decided what Floyd is showing up since the guy has more in his bag of tricks than Chris Angel..
Will he let Juan come to him? Will he press the action? Will he take risks and and open up on Juan with his superior athleticism and offense? or will he lay back counterpunch and potshot till Juan gets unraveled and takes risks leaving himself exposed and vulnerable? All I know is Juan is fighting a guy just as determined, intelligent and unbending will to win along with a lock down defense and Iron chin...
This is going to be a great fight and if Floyd loses to Juan it wont even be that devestating as a fan of Mayweather since I love em both and Juan has all my respect and deserves his due for all his blood, sweat and tears he's laid out for us every time he gets in the ring.....

The local tv showed Marquez-Casamayor and PBF-Hatton fights as a preview. Watching the Casamayor fight first, I thought there's nooooh way Marquez gonna beat PBF the way he fought there. It took him good 11 rounds to catch Casamayor for good, a man many say who has well passed his prime... but on the other hand...
I wasn't impressed either with Floyd in the Hatton fight. Hatton fought exactly the way he did against Pacquiao, coming out charging right from the beginning like a crazed bull. But strange of all strangeness (strange phrase, ain't it), the tactic worked well against Floyd, flustering him the first few round until when Hatton was starting to get gassed out. Then Floyd was able to counter the slowed-down Hatton methodically. I've always said here that this is the way to beat Floyd, attacking him hard incessantly, as he has shown to get easily flustered and confused under intense attack. That's because, like most methodical fighters, Floyd fight in certain rhythm - just get him out of his rhythm and get him flustered. So the key, to repeat, is to get him out of his rhythm and stop fighting his game. Castillo proved that long before Hatton did.
Though I still pick PBF to win this fight, after the 'steroids' craptalks of the Mayweathers, I'm solidly behind Marquez in this fight. I think he should take his chance and attack immediately and hit Floyd hard with all he's got, trying to put him down. Yes folks, Marquez has the tool to knock almost anyone out there in the market. I've always said that here and was always ridiculed for it but thanks to Juan Manuel, he always proved me right. That's the difference between the so-called armchaired analysts and the ones with some working knowledge of the sport. But then he should go slow on those pizzy stuffs (when I was a kid, there was the Fizzies) if he wants to win.
So here's is my wishful forecast of the fight, which comes from the heart of a man in love than from his mind (I didn't have much IQ in the first place so it doesn't matter much anyways):
Marquez by KO in round 3. (There's a saying that a prophet's forcast usually happens in reverse so I might actually reverse my forecast.;D)

my rational mind sez, like what most folks says, that Floyd is too big, strong and slick for a smaller counter-puncher like Marquez...
...but then, that's exactly what I said just before the dela Hoya - Pacquiao fight...
...Good luck to Marquez and all his fans...
...and shame on Floyd for picking on a small man. C'mon Floyd, pick on a man your size... Well anyway, good luck to his fans as well. But he doesn't need that, he's too proud...

I dont know PacFan, I compared both fights Pac/Hatton Hatton/ Floyd I saw faster feet and Hatton working behind the Jab. Against Pac he looked flat out of the gate didnt Jab or move his head. I think Floyd would of done a number on Hatton if he showed up in the shape he did for Pac...
Ricky got hurt multiple times against Lazcanzo and people said Ricky was done... Floyd punished and landed hard crushing blows to Hatton, Ricky kept going because he was undefeated and hungry and still fresh..Pac fought a different version of Ricky, mentally and physically
Also Floyds dosent have a predictal pattern nor has a pressure fighter been successful

Have been in a Cybil mode on this one since the signing.But its here and happening.Followed Marquez from his days at the Forum and love to watch him think.You can see the wheels turning,a truely great technician and though Mayweather strikes me as a bellowing clod with little man syndrome,he's one of the deepest defensive wizards over the last few decades.Can see Marquez placing himself right in between his past outside counter,side to side mode and the more recent keeping close inside w/assertive sharp punching.Once he finds an opening he works it and builds to create others but not clumsily...guy should be wearing a hardhat and tool belt.Might try to punch between his flurries.He'll come to Floyd,but measured and this is no face first flailing Chavez,Hernandez,or even Hatton.Floyd won't be allowed to coast,Marquez is every bit the ring general with keen boxing mind.I can see a chess match drifting into spurts of short shoot outs followed by a chess match to reposition often as it goes.Think the footwork will be just as vital as each guys hands here.Don't see a TKO really either way,but JMM can be cut up.Think Marquez will win a tight stunner,and Floyds following tirad will be one for the ages.

It's a no brainer in my mind. If Pac could hurt him Floyd certainly can...and he will! TKO round 7

Like JT said, it should be a great fight & imo the most dangerous fighter Mayweather has fought since arguably Castillo.
I think it will be a much harder fight than some say, as Marquez is coming to fight & has the ability & toughness get give Floyd fits.
Floyd's speed & defense are going to be key in this fight, but if anyone can nullify that speed with timing its Marquez!
Great fight, can't wait!

I just watch a replay of the Cortez/Floyd Versus Hatton and I can see Marquez doing a whole lot better than Hatton.
Marquez is a better fighter than Hatton. Plus Cortez was definitely favoring Floyd. Cortez would break up the fight as soon as Hatton got on the inside.
Hatton was giving Floyd a hard time in the first 6 rounds. Floyd was holding, running, hit and grab, and was instructed by uncle rog to take pot shots.
I think most peoplel are mistakenly thinking that floyd is the same fighter when he was at 130 and 135. He was great then. But Floyd has not fought any A level, Elite fighter at 147.
Marquez is the best that Floyd had ever faced. Floyd is taking on the best opponent in his career when Floyd is no longer at his best.

The Cortez favouring Floyd thing has been done to death and its bullshit. It is up to the referee to break the fighters so they are not holding all the time, the faster a ref does this the better he is doing his job cos it keeps the action flowing. The problem with Hatton is that for the first 40 odd fights of his career he was allowed to do as he pleased and when the refs finally clamped down on him he went to shit.
Floyd would have beat Hatton if Rickys dad had been referee.

Cortez was joke in that fight man. Firm and unfair. I've never seen a ref so blatantly cater to one fighter like that in a championship fight.
I think Floyd would have won anyway but it's a shame it ended up being Floyd/Cortez vs Hatton.
For this fight I'm thinking Floyd will win a hard fought decision. I see both fighter as naturally smaller men. Floyd is not a big welter, but he is strong at the weight. Marquez is untested at this weight, but he should be able to bang up Floyd enough to make it an exciting fight.

You might be right, JT. I watched the fight only twice so I don't remember the details and have to rely on my impression of the fight, so I could be wrong here, but the way I saw it, the difference between Floyd and Pac was that unlike Floyd, Pac countered almost everytime Rick came charging in, whereas the Pretty girl wasn't able to do so at first. Why? It's because Rick went right inside. That's what they usually do when a small fighter fights a bigger one, trapping the bigger man inside - within the range of the small one but too close for the bigger one. But once Rick slowed down and Floyd found his range, what the Prettyboy did was to just step back to get back his range and counter. When he did that, Rick got hurt and he was done.

Fully agreed there, and if I may add - correct me if I'm wrong - I heard that when Rick was acting as a commentator for the Pac-dela Hoya fight, He was said to have expressed his 'awe' towards Pac's fighting there, and you know that if anyone admires another guys talent, he'd probably lose some of his confidence when facing that person.

I'm gunna put money on JMM to pull off the upset. I think Floyd may have looked past this, underestimated JMM's skills and I can see JMM being smart enough to work his way inside and pound the body to exploit te previous rib injury. It's just a feeling, but I think it's worth a bet as despite the weight, Marquez is a live underdog and I'm stunned so many people have written him off.

I just think that Floyd is to much coupled with the size advantage, Mayweather will force Juan to apply the pressure and that will negate some of his counter punching oppurtunities... I havent decided what Floyd is showing up since the guy has more in his bag of tricks than Chris Angel..
Will he let Juan come to him? Will he press the action? Will he take risks and and open up on Juan with his superior athleticism and offense? or will he lay back counterpunch and potshot till Juan gets unraveled and takes risks leaving himself exposed and vulnerable? All I know is Juan is fighting a guy just as determined, intelligent and unbending will to win along with a lock down defense and Iron chin...
This is going to be a great fight and if Floyd loses to Juan it wont even be that devestating as a fan of Mayweather since I love em both and Juan has all my respect and deserves his due for all his blood, sweat and tears he's laid out for us every time he gets in the ring.....

I just watch a replay of the Cortez/Floyd Versus Hatton and I can see Marquez doing a whole lot better than Hatton.
Marquez is a better fighter than Hatton. Plus Cortez was definitely favoring Floyd. Cortez would break up the fight as soon as Hatton got on the inside.
Hatton was giving Floyd a hard time in the first 6 rounds. Floyd was holding, running, hit and grab, and was instructed by uncle rog to take pot shots.
I think most peoplel are mistakenly thinking that floyd is the same fighter when he was at 130 and 135. He was great then. But Floyd has not fought any A level, Elite fighter at 147.
Marquez is the best that Floyd had ever faced. Floyd is taking on the best opponent in his career when Floyd is no longer at his best.
