Well, well, well....surely he's done it all now, he's half black, he's the President of the United States, he's on TV all the time, and now he wins the Nobel Peace Prize.....for what??? What has he done?

yeah i'm note sure either... Nothing against him, but I didn't realise just being president of a country not nuking the whole planet makes you a peace prize winner... Compared to bush though he's halfway there..
....imagine what is going to happen once he actually does something :vd:
Hate to say it but I think any president not named bush would have won the Nobel piece price, because bush was so hated by most.
Its messed up because the nominations for this had to be in 11 days after he took office what did he do in 11 days that made him eligible for this? If someone knows please explain this to me.
That is ludicrous.....
I think Obama is probably a decent guy, but he has done nothing to merit the Nobel prize. In fact, his policy thus far in terms of Israel/Palestine has been weak and he is still at war in both Iraq and Afghanistan.
I commend him on closing Guantanamo Bay, but that should never have existed in the first place.
A head scratching choice tbh.
I laughed, just at how mad this will make Republicans makes it all worth it.
Why he got it is simple, he's not George Bush.
He's done some good things though. Politically he couldn't have pulled out of Afghanistan so soon and Israel is still popular among a large section of America, its a risky thing to go too far there in your first term. People disappointed by him are a bit more idealistic than me, he's a politician, he's not gonna show a reckless disregard for his political future, they just don't do that.
That's not to say I think he deserves it ;D But who cares, apparently its to encourage the general path of his policies, nuclear anti-proliferation stuff, more middle east engagement and diplomacy, etc.
What exactly did he do to deserve it? This is hilarious.
HAHAHA he got this on the same day we bomb the moon.
The Nobel laureate - chosen by a five-member committee - wins a gold medal, a diploma and 10m Swedish kronor ($1.4m).
"Only very rarely has a person to the same extent as Obama captured the world's attention and given its people hope for a better future," the Norwegian committee said in a statement.
Asked why the prize had been awarded to Mr Obama less than a year after he took office, Nobel Committee head Thorbjoern Jagland said: "It was because we would like to support what he is trying to achieve".
Is it cus I is black?
Yeah probably?
"If this was 1938, the award would have gone to Neville Chamberlain for his intentions of World peace."
from the comments page.
Obama was the best by far of the last 4 candidates to the USA presidency but... well, I do not see at all what he did to deserve it... yet. IF he solves the Afghan problem or the crisis between Israel and Palestine, maybe then we could consider him. Till then... it is just ludicrous.
He got rid of Bush.
Fucking ridiculous, clearly some people are pandering for something.
So his first eleven days in office were so momentous in restoring hope and peace to humanity that he gets awarded the Nobel Prize.
This is utter utter bollocks. Why not lets give David Cameron a Nobel Prize, because even though he's not yet in office he did give a speech this week where he said under him the Conservatives would end child poverty and that in future the poorest children will go to the best schools, not the worst.
How could they not get behind that kind of heartwarming sentiment? He HAS to be favourite for next year's award.
Seriously fuck the Norwegiens......
Judge a man AFTER his reign, not before you pandering fucktards.
This looks a little political. They should have at least waited till he failed to fix the Palestine-Israel situation before they gave it to him.
"Not being as aggressive as George W Bush" is not the standard by which the Nobel should be awarded, although to be fair it's an understandable sentiment from the Nobel people.
Plus he's an American President. The Nobel committee now have to hope he can go potentially seven plus years without invading somebody, an almost impossible-to-imagine scenario.
....I hear Obama is now in the running for the Heisman Trophy and if he plays his cards right a Golden Globe.
I wonder if Kanye West will insist that Beyonce or himself deserved the Nobel Peace Prize and interrupt Obama's acceptance speech?
This HAS to be embarassing for Obama, surely he doesn't feel he's done anything to earn it....he must have a rough time sitting down with how chapped his ass must be from everyone kissing it.
I think maybe herein lied the motivation. Rather than an award for outstanding services rendered he has has been given an award thay that basically says ' This is what we expect from you....'.
He's now been lifted up as a paragon of peace and virtue and has been in told in no uncertain terms what the world expects from him.
It seems that by awarding him for things he has not yet done, they are very much trying to 'direct' him towards the kind of political and international policies that they themselves wish him to undertake.
It's all very self serving imo, and Barak must surely now feel under some pressure of obligation to perform.....
....we're talking about the same prize Martin Luther King Jr. won...I think it is an OUTRAGE Obama got this award, and for nothing more than "having good intentions"....are you fucking kidding me?!?!?! That's the only thing that Bush's Presidency had "good intentions"...."spread democracy"...surely it hasn't been a success but what happens when Obama fails?.....or maybe he's "too important to fail"
Lyle gets outraged, its kind of his thing.
It's a PEACE Prize OumaFan...we're at War those are opposites, they are mutually exclusive, one cannot be at war AND at peace at the same time.
Yes it's because it's OBAMA that I am pissed off, if it was Michael Moore I would still be pissed off, if it was Ann Coulter I'd be pissed off, if it was Bill Maher I'd be pissed off....I'm still angry Al Gore and Jimmy Carter got one!!!
I don't think he should get it, really who does think that, but he inherited both wars, along with all the other fuck ups, from your boy. At least we're theoretically (partially) moving out of Iraq. With Afghanistan, meh, he's probably fucked, he should probably just get out but he feels like he can't.
Al Gore, blah, blah, blah.
He called Afghanistan and I QUOTE "Afghanistan is a war of necessity"
...and I don't think sitting down for face to face talks with Bad guys really does much to promote peace.
A real Nobel Prize winner

The long and short of it is - 5 guys think he deserves an award...
Don't really care what they think, there's what? 8 billion people in the world and every single one has their own opinions on stuff so I'm not going to get upset over 5 people.
He's as much as said he's done nothing to deserve one yet and he's embarrassed by it:
US President Barack Obama 'Surprised' To Be Awarded Nobel Peace Prize For 2009 | World News | Sky News
Yeah, they've basically gave it to him for being elected... the reason a black man is in office is because of what 1000s of people have done during history to create the racial equality in America for that to happen... Obama is a result of that rather than a cause so yeah, he doesn't deserve a nobel just for being elected.
But again, It's not worth getting upset over the opinions of 5 nords.
Another thing, I've heard lots of people saying he doesn't deserve a nobel prize, but little to few people actually saying who deserved one this year. I've no doubt that there are people who did more than Obama, but it would be constructive to talk about them, wouldn't it?
So Obama gets it for his rousing pre election and election victory speeches and promises to promote peace in the future.
Meanwhile Ghandi was never deemed worthy, neither was Pope John Paul II, or great social activists such as Dorothy Day.
The only blessing I guess is that at least the People's Princess Diana didn't get one, although the Landmine cause that she worked for of course did.
Well we know who did NOT deserve it and they gave it to him.
The Nobel Peace Prize is supposed to be a prestigious award and giving it to a guy who has been in office for a couple of months and done fuck all in that time span....they might as well have flushed that thing down the crapper.
You are not alone in that sentiment
"He has done nothing for peace in Afghanistan ... We condemn the award of the Nobel Peace Prize for Obama." - Zabihullah Mujahid, a Taliban spokesman
"Obama has a long way to go still and lots of work to do before he can deserve a reward. Obama only made promises and did not contribute any substance to world peace." - Sami Abu Zuhri, a Hamas official
Oh for fuck's sake they gave an award to Kissinger, who was involved in some truly horrific goings on in Latin America & Asia throughout the early 70s. The message - The Nobel Prize is not to be taken seriously
Of course it's not... 5 out of 8 billion people have an opinion on something - the internet loses it's mind.
Sweet! I gonna run out and buy me an Obama chia head.
