Anyone catch Panorama last night very shocked at what I saw
Basically a an undercover Asian couple moved into an area in Bristol for eight weeks and what I saw was quite shocking they encountered over 50 seperate incidents of racial abuse and even physically abused.
It didnt paint a pretty picture, heres a link to it if you want to see some of the incidents:
BBC - Panorama - Undercover: Hate on the Doorstep

Re: Anyone catch Panorama last night very shocked at what I saw
I didnt see it but everyone at work told me about it, not too far away from my old neck of the woods. Those same people will be down the 'paki' shop asking for tick until giro day.Looks disturbing, but it hasnt told us anything we didnt already know has it?
-
Re: Anyone catch Panorama last night very shocked at what I saw
Was it more than those gangs of kids abusing them?
I'm pretty sure those types of kids would pick on just about anyone hanging around "their" area.
The racism/disgraceful behaviour stems from having scumbag pig ignorant parents/upbringing.

Re: Anyone catch Panorama last night very shocked at what I saw
didn't see it but that vid was bad enough...
i hate shit like that i mean can you even imagine walking down the street with your partner knowing that you could get jumped on and stabed etc... not to mention how the loss of pride would make you feel as a man.
fucking stinks IMO

Re: Anyone catch Panorama last night very shocked at what I saw
From my unpopular point of view, I think spiritually its a major test for the victums and a major trap for the perpertrators. One with two heads that keeps them coming back here onto planet Earth or into other similar compressed material places of experience time and time again. Some people are so agro over their own pain and their anguish over their original mistake of choosing to become separated out from the whole into an individual being.
They then see outer things as having to be wrong and them ultimatley correct.
Thats through their ego mind, the side that chose experience through separation and continues to do so.
Then they feel they have to direct the anger and blame out onto other people even over something so slight as skin color and other even less trival pursuits of us humans.
Blame and hatred directed outwards at others slowly destroys their own real mind spirit and they cant see that their ego mind has over taken the real them and is standing over it.
They'll learn one day in one millenium somewhere, but it may take them being reborn into their imagined enemies camps or maybe being the real odd man out with some major affliction.
Until they re-find whats actually real and whats not in regards to them and others who are actually eternally one and always will be.
To cease all judment is to free yourself through forgivness of all things including yourself and your past. Freedom of choice equals continued experiences through your paticular point of view; That is a self peretuating trap that keep us locked into a duality form between two poles of false thought, it also steals from us the divine reality of eternity as one.

Re: Anyone catch Panorama last night very shocked at what I saw
I watched all of it on !Player.
The thing that bothers me about these programs is how the confrontations arise.
When the guy got punched he had spent 10 minutes asking the cunts why they told him to walk in the road. Would any normal person without a hidden agenda have acted like that? I think most sane people would have walked on avoiding any contact with the clearly hostile morons.
Who hangs around closed shops on a friday night where a bunch of drunk teenagers are? Is that not asking for trouble?
And the woman was obviously tracking down where those kids were. When the little cunt was bullying her she was standing still trying to get as much abuse footage on tape as possible. In reality she would have hurried on down the street, no?
So you're left with - some of the people in those those largely white communities are lowlife ignorant scumbag racists. Shock!!!

Re: Anyone catch Panorama last night very shocked at what I saw
The young people of Britain are everything that is wrong with the place. Of course, that is a generalisation but what an unpleasant place it is with those types of ignorant little shits everywhere. And I include most of their parents in the list of wrong 'uns too.
The UK is fucked up. I have never in my time in Korea ever been anywhere where I am fearful of gangs of fucked up teenagers. The most insulting thing a kid has ever said to me is "Hello". I'm always complaining about the racist media out here, but give me that over swarthes of youngsters teeming with hate anyday! ;)
Life must be so difficult for too many in the UK who just "don't fit" and where people target them just for being a bit different. It's very, very sad. I don't think I will ever return permanently. The UK is a wonderful place if you just subtract 70% of the population.

Personally I blame all the expat English teachers but what do I know, being a Canadian I should probably just be happy that I'm sober enough to type...
We have a lot of racism around here as well. Primarily it's directed at the indigenous peoples, but people also seem to direct it at the Indian and Asian communities as well. One thing I've noticed over the last few years is a sharp rise in xenophobic and anti-immigrant attitudes, which is painfully ironic to say the least given many peoples views towards the First Nations...

Yep, blame it on the English teachers!
I comment on the UK being somewhat distanced, but I recall life living in big cities and follow the media voraciously. This Panorama programme shows nothing unexpected when it comes to life in probably too many parts of the UK. The UK can be such a grim and unpleasant place to be, even for those of the acceptable ethnic look. Our societies like to think of themselves as tolerant or developed and racism is now such a dirty word in the printed media, but on the streets I would imagine it is a very common thing. It isn't very enlightened at all.
With the UK it isn't just the racism, it's that underlying simmering violence that comes with it, ready to explode at any point. Why kids are allowed to hang around shops of an evening is beyond me? Don't they have homework to do or families to spend time with? Instead they prefer to hang out doing nothing waiting for trouble to come along in the form of people going to the shop. It's insane, it really is. I couldn't imagine groups of kids getting drunk all evening outside a shop in Korea. All the old people would beat them into line and the parents would be dragging them home, belt in hand, telling them how they have brought shame on their family. Seriously.

Yep its a two way street, with two opposing agendas, each strengthens the other, which also allows them to hide from the one reason they want to continue doing it, which is their continued insanity in hiding from whats real.

Re: Anyone catch Panorama last night very shocked at what I saw
I watched it. I had to giggle when that 10 year old said give me your money or i'll get my gun out. His parents must be so proud, what a little shitt.
Then you have those dole blagging scumbags that hang around outside their house all day dressed as chavs insulting/assaulting people. I would imagine if a fat kid would have walked past he would have been abused too wether he was white, black, indian or chinese. Thes cuntts have nothing better to do than be angry at the world.
The whole thing was pretty disgusting. Bullying kunts. That matey Sean Ganderton...well he's nails he is isn't he. Whacking a clearly passive indian fella (Good point raised by fenster...anyone else would have just moved on avoiding eye contact). I wonder what would have happened had the fella been a bit more agressive himself and postured a bit more to say he wasn't going to take any crap. He probably wouldn't have touched him and just carried on calling him a 'paki' from inside his garden gate.
It said at the end though that a couple of them, the girl and the young lad were part of some family interevention scheme whatever that is. I would imagine it is something to do with his parents being scum too.
By the way big up to the fat bloke with the tats who helped the woman out when those two little fukkers were trying to rob her.

wonder what would have happened if little tuff guy had been smacked in the mouth just after he said 'give me your money or'. People should be more proactive.
thing is we've got the stage of kiddie worship, where if you confronted their parents they'd swear blind 1. they never did it and 2. Our little angel wouldn't do that.
It's easier for them to turf these scummy kids out their house and on the street.

Re: Anyone catch Panorama last night very shocked at what I saw
I've just watched it properly now and it was disturbing. Those scenes were just what you would expect around large parts of the country. Horribly ignorant, savage groups hanging about in clusters all over the place looking to spread their loathing of anything different wherever they can.
That little kid that tried stealing the womans bag was just awful. How does one get so screwed up so young. Some of my youngest students are that age and I just cannot imagine them ever acting in such a manner. Definitely a lack of parenting going on and kids just running amok doing what they want.
I was watching it with my wife actually and it made me feel a bit bad. I always complain about the racism I deal with here but it's nothing compared to that. I have never had bricks thrown at me, water bombs smashed on my head, glass smashed at my feet or been told I smell or to get out of the country. Bloody hell, that's some really horrible, nutty stuff. We both agree that the UK is a place we probably won't go to raise our kids. I do love aspects of the UK, but that kind of stuff gives me the chills.

I must admit that while watching it I felt the urge to smack him in the mouth, I have never felt that way about a young kid. But then I have never come across a kid quite like that before.

Disagree here Fenster. You have to remember they were living on a council estate & in the real world ethnic minorities have to walk past those same places to get home. They were hardly hanging around there, they tended to be walking through. I do agree that the guy hung on a bit long after he got punched, you'd imagine most people would have run, but not all would, it was far from 10 minutes, it was more 45 seconds which was too much of that thug's time so he decided to punch him (fuckin piss weak it was as well)
I also don't think the woman was standing still, she genuinely seemed intimidated by the kids. I think second-guessing how people react in those situations is always a bit difficult, I've seen a lot of people, particularly women freeze up in situations. The reason I thought she was genuinely frightened was because her accent started slipping from the fake one she had on.
Talking of which, that was the only thing about the programme that annoyed me. I didn't get why they didn't talk in the normal accent. I'd like to see what the guys would have said back had they come out talking as they did.
That 11 year old is a disaster waiting to happen. He looks a cert for a young offender's institution & from there it only takes one racist comment for him to end up doing life for murder or in the morgue himself.
I don't think their reactions were untypical though. Many people would stand their ground, regardless of if someone is an immigrant or not, they still have the pride that they might well stand up to people. How many of you would really not say something if a bunch of kids was saying that?
They did make a point that the estate was notorious for racism & that they still met many decent people. I also think they went a bit hard on Trevor Phillips over ONE comment. I know from my girlfriend's experience, that even in some parts of London, Asian people experience particularly aggressive racism, possibly due to their respective stereotypes in comparisom to black people.
I wouldn't call it eye-opening, I think most of us knew it was happening, but I think it also shows how different Britain is. Even 10-15 years ago there would be plenty of people saying 'boys will be boys' or 'they're just kids' to try & excuse it. Now, even the notorious racist CFH isn't coming out with that ;)

Re: Anyone catch Panorama last night very shocked at what I saw
I commute on the bus to work and there are school age kids at the back, making a lot of noise, swearing and from time to time making comments about the passengers. One time I saw them get off and make slitty eye jestures at an asian lad who was going to college.
You know I'm gobby and I find it really hard not to say anything, the reason I don't up till now is the fact that after speaking to them if that doesn't shut 'em up where is that likely to lead? Me bitch slapping some lippy 12 year old? What about his mates? I'd be the one getting dragged over the coals for reacting to their constant bad behaviour. :(

its mob rule at its ultimate saddest
Its bad enough when youve got 11 year olds on bikes swearing at you and chucking things knowing very well they can simply run off into the night should you bother to chase
But when its 15-16 year old lads in numbers heading on to trains, buses just to intimidate those that arent backed up by a bunch of chavs it just becomes a very sad state of affairs.
Asbos, community orders..blah blah blah. Just stick every peice of scum in ghetto slums far away from from the rest of us and let themselves work out their own problems rather than the taxpayer!

Shock!!!
Now, even the notorious racist CFH isn't coming out with that ;)
I was probably a bit harsh on the woman considering she got water-bombed and they tried to snatch her purse.
But her pretending to not speak English fuelled the little cunts bullying. It seemed to make him feel he could intimidate her more. If she hadn't just kept repeating "no" maybe that situation would have played out different. Obviously she was portraying the nightmare for non-English speaking ethnic minorities, but would someone that REALLY couldn't speak English, someone NOT secretly filming have acted like that? I'm not sure.
The guy stopped to ask why they told him to walk in the road. IF he was suffering weeks of abuse and finally decided to confront the lowlifes, his actions would have been understandable. Or if he thought fuck this i'm not letting these cunts speak to me like that, his actions would have been understandable. But he acted like a thicko.
Basically what I'm saying is they acted like two well educated undercover reporters playing passive roles to get a story. And therefore some of the situations were intensified. Judging by the replies it was an eye-opener for many just how disgusting the abuse is that many people have to suffer. So that's a good thing.

its mob rule at its ultimate saddest
Its bad enough when youve got 11 year olds on bikes swearing at you and chucking things knowing very well they can simply run off into the night should you bother to chase
But when its 15-16 year old lads in numbers heading on to trains, buses just to intimidate those that arent backed up by a bunch of chavs it just becomes a very sad state of affairs.
Asbos, community orders..blah blah blah. Just stick every peice of scum in ghetto slums far away from from the rest of us and let themselves work out their own problems rather than the taxpayer!
I'm going to write a harsh letter to their headmaster and the bus company.

It's a shame the UK isn't more like Korea in this respect. In Korea EVERY student has their name sewn into their school jumper, jacket and shirt. If anyone is causing a problem then you have the little twat at your mercy. In the UK they can just run and blend into the crowd.

I might just film them, youth technology used against them.
God, I've turned nazi.

Just to clarify, i wasn't taking the piss. I was kinda doing a parody. My point was that your post was well written. To highlight this i wrote something that made no sense and written terribly, whilst ironically saying that you should learn to write 'proper'.
Yeah I thought you were taking the piss out of what Bilbo says to me all time :-).

I've not seen the show but I agree with what you are saying Fenster.
Even here in Torquay we have rowdy chav kid gangs who regularly make the papers for beating someone up. I've seen a crowd of them out once and just didn't walk down that road. I have no doubt that if I wondered up to them and attempted to chat to them for 10 minutes they would beat the crap out of me and I'm whiter than white.
In the interest of bias and not wanting to present a false picture they should get other people to wonder down that street and see what reactions they get.
Send a tramp down, maybe an old tin can lady, a really obese guy, a girl with ginger hair and see what abuse they get. Sure they won't be called 'Paki' but they will have chips and insults hurled at them just the same.

Fair points.
It's on You Tube already, so you can catch it on there if you want to watch it.
And like you say, it would be interesting to see how those estate kids deal with other types of people. I would imagine they would likely be twats with anyone who is a bit different. If you are a guy with long hair you are probably going to get a fair bit of stick on the streets as well, but that kind of story probably wouldn't work in a television documentary as race is the thing the media likes to highlight above all others. And with those levels of violence and abuse it is something that obviously does need to be addressed.

Fenst this reminds of an 'expose' of the Royal Mail a couple years. Again some undercover reporters got jobs there and one cited how she was given her mail route and no directions about how to get to the streets etc. She just wondered around aimlessly for hours and couldn't deliver anything because of this, saying how bad it was that the managers had just given a route with no training.
I was screaming at the telly at the stupid bitch, saying 'Use your fucking initiative you dumb bitch and go in a shop and pick up a fucking streetmap!!!'
That just pissed me off, ok they were chronically shortstaffed and didn't have time to train her but you'd hope a real new adultemployee would at least try and think for themselves....

I saw that as well Bilbo, but it wasn't quite the same. There were numerous incidents of ethnic minorities being viciously assaulted even as the program was being made, so it clearly was an issue. I disagree with Fenster in this, when you live on an estate, often you just can't avoid going past certain places & although on one occasion I thought the reaction was stupid, I generally thought they behaved in a way that did show what life would be like for an ethnic minority on that estate.

Yeah I know what you are saying. I have no doubt that there is genuine mutual dislike and racism in these places.
