Now that isnt a bad replacement for Pavlik, im quite happy if this fight happens. Full props to Williams who could of acted like a twat and said only at Middleweight.

Will that mean the winner will fight Ryan Rhodes? Can't see it, Williams is long overdue some big paydays and I think he batters Martinez.
Gotta say well done to Williams for taking this after Pavlik pulling out though, I expected him to take a no name fighter, having said that if the choice comes up Williams always takes world class if he can.
Does anyone think Williams can fill out to SMW effectively? If he could there would be some serious fights for him and he could finally get the fights he needs. He certainly has the height.
Williams' most difficult fight up to this point if it happens. I would say possibly more stylistically difficult than Pavlik. How much punching power does Martinez have?
Yeah style wise this is probably tougher than Pavlik but I don't know, I'm not as high on Martinez as some, he's solid enough I guess.
If everyone could become thought of as a danger man by beating Alex Bunema...
Williams TKO
martinez is a very good fighter and i've been wanting to see this fight get made for a while. these two are the best 154-ers. p.will by UD.
Martinez will be a totally different fight than Pavlik for sure but in the couple of fights i've seen Martinez he seemed a bit too easy to hit. Williams will eventually beat him up i say.
Well this is the fight that I said should get made, once Pavlik pulled out.
Martinez has quick hands, he moves around quickly, he darts in and out, and I actually think he will give Williams some fits. If he fights smart, I think he can win this on points.
The only concern I would have, is that he hasn't fought since February when he fought against Cintron, so hopefully he won't be too rusty.
Like Martinez alot, superb boxer that can move all night. After beating Cintron twice in one fight and getting screwed,he's owed a big oppurtunity.Bottom line I dont think he'll be able to keep Williams off and will have his comfort zone, distance taken away as it goes rounds.
If Williams has an offnight, Martinez will make Quintana's first performance against Williams look very mediocre. Martinez is THE premier sharp shoot at light middle IMO, but Williams volume cannot be ignored. Martinez is excellent at owning the range and he hit Cintron hard enough for Kermit to think it was a headbutt.
I take Williams late TKO, but I give Martinez a better shot than I was giving Pavlik.
Just one readers opinion of course.
I will put it simple: I would have preferred a Pavilk-Williams fight but Martinez is defo a very decent last minute replacement.
Absolutley right.Martinezs skillset makes Pavliks appear to be stuck in concrete. No doubt he has a better all around gameplan, multi geared rather than a one deminsional Pavlik.
If Williams sleeps on him, he'll be collecting a big 'L'.Totally agree. But I just dont see it with rejuvinated and healthier Williams at this weight.Cintrons problems was tons of solid Martinez and just a bit of himself to me,and still managed to make it after being KO'd in there.I think Martinez needs spurts of a buffer, distance and Williams will very well take it from him.Better quality fight for sure.
sergio isn't any more skilled than pavlik. he's just as basic but much more athletic and a lot faster. forrest of few years ago would've beaten him rather convincingly.
this fight's at 160.
he knows to move in more ways than forward. otherwise, he's your typical athletic talent. it's all in-and-out with him. he does counter better.
It sounds like a decent matchup to me. Seems fair enough considering it's only a month away.
Didn't he? The fight will be at Middleweight. Silly really as he seemed prepared to negotiate a fight with Clottey at 154. Why not fight Martinez at 154 and take a world title in the process? Still I'm not suggesting he's doing it to gain an advantage. Martinez wanted the fight with Pavlik at 160 so its no big deal for him. I just think it makes more sense at 154 with the belt on the line.
I would have liked to see the fight at 154. Credit to Martinez for no bullsh*t whining about extra money & the weight (unlike Clottey).
This is a great replacement for Pavlik & Martinez is going to be a tough challenger to overcome. Williams better bring his best or an upset is not out of the question imo
