Anyone picking Urango tonight?
I'm not personally, I'm not totally sure what I think about Alexander, I haven't seen him a whole lot, but I don't think it takes a great boxer to outbox Urango by any means. He is strong, but he doesn't set up his power well, isn't busy enough and is very very slow on his feet.
I think it will be a dull fight, fairly uneventful, 118-110 type scores for Alexander. Urango could catch him but he just never gets out of first gear and if Alexander is what some people think he is then he should be able to see Urango's single shots coming.

Re: Anyone picking Urango tonight?
I think people forget that the only fight Urango lost at 140 lbs was to Ricky Hatton at a time when The Hitman was considered the best 140 pounder in the world. Urango is no push over, but I think he'll have a lot of trouble with the speed of Alexander
Alexander to win by unanimous decision

Re: Anyone picking Urango tonight?
I got Urango. I became a fan during the Bailey fight. I thought that no one could take a clean connection of Bailey's right hand, but Urango did, got back up & kept on coming. For me he's about the most durable guy in boxing right now. No real skills, just great conditioning, chin & thudding power. Not normally my kind of fighter but I've made an exception.
It would probably be better from a point of view of the sport if Alexander won as the media appear ready to designate him the next big thing, so I wouldn't be upset if he won.
I really want to watch, but the power cuts we're experiencing seem to aim for about 4 in the morning, meaning I'm debating whether to stay up & risk it or whether to just dl it tomorrow.

Re: Anyone picking Urango tonight?
I'll be that guy. Urango is a wrecking ball. Alexander will be clearly ahead in the middle rounds when he tries to get cute and Urango makes short work of him. Urango has hurt every fighter he's faced, Alexander should be no exception.

I'll second that my good man.
I like Urango. He's a warrior. And he may be a bit slow and one dimensional but he has a granite chin, good stamina and packs a good punch.

Re: Anyone picking Urango tonight?
Have to go in on it as well.Alexander has all the speed and promise you could hope for in a young turk but he's faced nothing and no one as deep as Urango. For as slow a foot as he is...Urango is tremendously physical, strong and able to change momentum with one punch power.See it getting inside mid to late and Devon will not be able to stay away forever...and don't see nearly the power/experience to keep Urango off.
Ohhh and if anyone gets a link to this please hook a brother up.Danke

Re: Anyone picking Urango tonight?
He will always be in the fight, he can fucking bang and is one of the hardest hitters around 140lb's. He will get his ears boxed off though IMO
-
Re: Anyone picking Urango tonight?
He is tough, there is no doubt about it. I would be capital letters shocked if Alexander stopped him. And he's got power but he has had a hard time setting up those shots against guys I consider less evasive than Alexander.

Re: Anyone picking Urango tonight?
How long till this starts? If it starts in 5 hours or something I can't be arsed with staying up.
-
Re: Anyone picking Urango tonight?
I think Urango might well catch him at some point and then he takes over and imposes himself. Might take a whilse to find his mark though. Should be a decent enough fight.

Less than 2 hours, it's an east coast fight.

Re: Anyone picking Urango tonight?
I got Alexander to take a win similar to the way Berto did
-
Re: Anyone picking Urango tonight?
Urango posses the best head movement of the sport imo. But I got Alexander by decision.
-
Re: Anyone picking Urango tonight?
Doesn't anyone do RBR's anymore?Shit..we need to snap out of it.Would if I could 'see' it cause being on the outside blows.

How'd this fight end? I see urango was KO'd...details?
-
Re: Anyone picking Urango tonight?
Oh, well.
That's a very good result for Alexander. Another one to add to the mix at 140 which is shaping up quite nicely.
-
Re: Anyone picking Urango tonight?
makes Berto look terrible. much cleaner fight than that one.

sry missed this post.
this is the smoothest i've seen devon alexander. props to cunningham. just moving and jabbing and generally outboxing urango and landing plenty of uppercuts. urango looked like he woke up around the 5th and started landing some solid shots. devon alexander stopped urango in the 8th round after knocking him down twice, first w/ a right uppercut and the 2nd came right after w/ a right hook. premature stoppage but looked like alexander was gonna stop him sooner or later.

That's the first fight round i've seen Alexander fight.... Might have to make more of an effort..?
Shit I thought Tim Bradley had abnormal Biceps :o
Poor Zab, what a dick head ;D ;D
-
Re: Anyone picking Urango tonight?
Wow, what an uppercut, perfectly timed..... I'm really glad for Alexander, especially since he showed us Witter The Quitter..... I now hope he puts Tim Bradley aside so we can begin to gain the first all out, lineal champ for a while That will be great for boxing man........

Re: Anyone picking Urango tonight?
Didnt think Urango would get ko'ed.I wouldnt mind seeing Alexander v Bradley would be a good fight imo.
If Ricky Hatton was watching that i think he should retire i think with the young fighters in the division now they would be to much for Hatton at this stage in his career.

They were good KD's. Alexander/Bradley would be a very nice fight, but I think Bradley has too much for him. I see Alexander is another one of these god thanking puppets too, so I will have a hard time warming to him. I like to see people like that knocked out so they can thank god again for giving them the power to lose.
As for Hatton, it's anyones guess where that man is right now. Has anyone heard anything more on his comeback? It's all gone deathly quiet. I think maybe he was waiting on the result of this and you know what, I say bring on Alexander! Hatton wants the tough fights and this is a tough one, Hatton is being totally written off by everyone and it would be an ideal statement to make.
-
Re: Anyone picking Urango tonight?
Actually, that was a little harsh on my part, he seems like an alright guy watching the rest of that interview. I liked his responses when talking about Urango's power. Still, bring on Hatton or Bradley. They would be exciting fights.

Ha...... Bradley is like that too, thats why I'd love to see Bradley get KO'd man. I don't think Bradley is all that atall, just high volume and pretty decent at everything. Alexander would have too much boxing ability for Bradley, and from the quality of his counter uppercut KO's last night I say he flatten Bradley coming in.
Alexander would have Hatton out of there inside 6 for me..... Hatton should stay retired now.

Re: Anyone picking Urango tonight?
Oh, and is Zab Judah still fighting? That would be a decent enough fight I guess, but Zab just doesn't seem very relevant to me right now.

Hatton struggles with southpaws so i would stop away from Alexander
It was a great uppercut to drop Urango and then finish him.

That's true about Bradley. I have amnesia when it comes to old post fight interviews. I had forgotten about Bradley's god love.
In the ring though, I am really into Bradley. He is exciting to watch and seems to do things better each time out. Alexander seems decent, but he was against a punch bag in Urango. It was impressive that he stopped him though, but Urango has shown a dent or two in recent fights.
The Hatton situation I am still unsure about. Like I say it's anyones guess whether Hatton is really up for this comeback or not, but I'd like to see him go out trying at the highest level at 140. These current fighters are looking pretty good, but Hatton was still top prior to the Pac blowout. Another 8 months gorging on pies probably hasn't made this comeback any easier though and I suppose that KO didn't help things too much either.

A peach of a punch. It seemed to take him off his feet going forwards and then had him falling right on his back. I thought the stoppage was a bit weak though. Urango was obviously not feeling too clever, but he looked like he could have gone on and seemed in control of his senses. It was a premature stoppage.
-
Re: Anyone picking Urango tonight?
Yeh he could of gone on, my money would of been on Alexander to stop him in that round or the 9th had it continued.
-
Re: Anyone picking Urango tonight?
Yeah I didn't see a stoppage coming obviously, didn't think Alexander was that solid of a puncher. Those were two pretty brutal uppercuts. Urango going forward could have more and more problems. If his chin starts to crack he just doesn't have enough other stuff to fall back on.
-
Re: Anyone picking Urango tonight?
I fully agree with you Oumafan I myself had Alexander to take the fight but not like that :o

Man, after the 5th round I was fully confident my prediction would come true, Urango had landed some devastating body shots and had just kicked into high gear where he was landing quite frequently. Big credit to Alexander for hanging onto the controls. That uppercut that he got on the first knockdown actually lifted Urango off the canvas :o Great win, great result another reason light welter is being stronger as a division everyday.
-
Re: Anyone picking Urango tonight?
Wish I would have seen it.Sounds like Alexander steppen up to another level entirely with emphatic statement. The Jt welters are flourishing and I would love a Bradley/Alexander showdown. It has to happen.Hopefully promoters,King wont give us second tier defenses and instead provide quality.
-
Re: Anyone picking Urango tonight?
Yeah just managed to see the last round on youtube when I got in late last night, really really great uppercut, as good as I've seen in a long while. The way he connected just as Urango was winding up his right hand was savage. Was it the ref who called an end to it though? Either way I don't really think it was a premature stoppage, maybe JUST barely, but from the vid I watched it looked as though after the second KD someone either climbed to the ropes or threw in the towel, the ref seemed to wave it off due to that, am I wrong?

Re: Anyone picking Urango tonight?
Bradley vs. Alexander would be some fight. It looks like King wants to make Alexander Judah first though. :) I wonder what Khan is thinking looking at the 140 pound division now and I wonder what GBP are thinking too. They've got to pay him $1.25 million a fight minimum and pretty much the only fights they can make to pay him that kind of money are Alexander/Bradley level fights. Or a Hatton fight in Britain if Ricky does actually fight again. The 140 division is definitely one to watch right now.

I bet Khan would love to vacate 140 now, ha.... He'll be heading back down to lightweight before you know it.....

Re: Anyone picking Urango tonight?
If you actually watch the fight back theres massive crowd disruption during the 1st few rounds
Apparently some big guy had a massive heart attack, anyone got any information on his condition??
