Mayweather vs Pacquiao Resumes
Alright let's look at their resume's since people call Pacquiao the greatest since Henry armstrong etc etc
So I thought I'd dig up bot htheir records and look at both of their big fights or title fights where they won titles and who they were against, if I make any mistakes let me know.
I'll start at when they both won their first world titles. I spent a lot of hours typing this up, I hope you all enjoy it.
Alright Pacquiao won his first title in 1998
The WBC Flyweight title against Chatchai Sasakul whom you've probably never heard of, but then again around that time I don't think Flyweights were looked at too much. Interesting fact though, according to the scores he was losing before a dramatic come from behind KO. Pacquiao defended his title twice before getting knocked out in his third title defense and losing his title at the scales.
**Edited Post Note**
According to forum posters miron_lang and generalbulldog who disagreed here and informed be who Sasakul was, apparently he was the recognized lineal champ at the time. And they consider this a greater victory because of Pacquiao accomplishing this at the age of 19. baring this in mind, I shall weigh it with the below.
Floyd Mayweather won his first title against Genaro Hernandez in 1998. The guy whose only loss was to Oscar De La Hoya and that was outside of 130 where he was undefeated at. Mayweather defended his title without losing it and soon entered a megafight with Diego Corrales after a rough performance against Emanuel Augustus.
Advantage: Pacquiao
Just because of the name he fought and the standing and the fact the person Pacquiao beat was the lineal champion and as I stated before he could have been the best Flyweight at the time, I'd never heard of him. According to generalbulldog and miron_lang, he was; baring this in mind, while Mayweather's victory was impressive, it does not trump Pacquiao's 19 year old accomplishment.
Alright
Next up, the next time Pacquiao won a world title was in 2001. When he was brought in as a late substitute against Lehlonolo Ledwaba wh owas the champion at the time of Super Bantamweight. This is what many consider Pacquiao's breakout performance because he was seen on the world stage and he had an impressive awesome performance and seemed like the next best exciting featherweight since Naseem Hamed, according to Emanuel Stewart. This is Pacquiao's second world title, in a second weight class. His next fight was against Agapito Sanchez in an extremely dirty fight that saw it end in a 6 round Draw.
2001 was also a big year for Floyd Mayweather, who still defending his title at 130 was in a mega fight with Diego "Chico" Corrales. Corrales was a favorite going in I believe and it was expected to be an exciting fight where some people were drawn who would get where. But this supposed close fight quickly became a one sided massacre from the first bell as Mayweather completely dominated Diego Corrales like no one else had done before or since, dropping him 5 times en route to a 10th round stoppage winning every round. There was some question whether or not Corrales' weight had anything to do with his loss to Mayweather, but given the one sidedness of the performance it could be argued that Mayweather would have beaten Corrales regardless. He followed this up with a spirited effort against Carlos Hernandez, with two broken hands. And then went on toe beat Jesus chavez in his final fight at 130
Advantage: Mayweather
At this point of their careers, nearing the end of 2001 Mayweather has the better resume. But soon the turning point in Pacquiao's career happened.
continued below

Re: Mayweather vs Pacquiao Resumes
Lets fast forward to 2003 which is what I consider the turning point for Pacquiao in the running.
This year, Pacquiao moving up from 130 defeated Marco Antonio Barerra, THIS was the super breakout of Pacquiao's performance because he absolutely dominated and annihilated Marco Antonio Barerra and this is where the hype train really got behind him. Some of Barerra's supporters said that he dealt with a lot of personal issues going into the fight, controversy about the plate in his head, and his training camp burning down in Big Bear. But the win is still a great win and the start of the Pacquiao train.
Now by this time, Mayweather had already won his second title in a second different weight class, against Jose Luis Castillo in a fight many thought he'd lost, Mayweather complained of an injured shoulder afterwards, and gave Castillo an immediate rematch in which he answered all the questions. And in 2003 defended his title against Victoriano Sosa and Phillip Ndou in which was since the Corrales fight his best offensive performance.
Advantage: Pacquiao
Pacquiao has the advantage in this section, definately, Mayweather may have won the Lightweight title from Castillo and had some good impressive defenses. But Pacquiao beating Barerra is a hard hard card to trump. Regardless of personal issues.
Now moving onto 2004
At this point the Pacquiao train was in full effect, this was his attempt at a third title in a third weight class against Juan Manuel Marquez, Marquez who was a known but never overly impressive to the mainstream boxing fan. This was the night Pacquiao was expected to storm Marquez, this is the night that Marquez made his name. Pacquiao dropped Marquez early in the first round 3 times and many people felt the fight was over. But Marquez adapted and gave Pacquiao hell for the rest of the fight with many thinking Marquez had made one of the best comeback in boxing history. While some feeling Pacquiao given his early success may have won the fight. The fight was a draw with many fans clamoring for a rematch. He also had another fight that was basically a keep busy fight also for a number 2 ranking for a title in that division. Pacquiao was the favorite and won. But had shown improvements of fighting with more then just his left hand.
In 2004 it was an inactve year for Mayweather he only had one fight, his first at 140 against former champion DeMarcus Corley who had just come off a title losing effort against Zab Judah. Corley had some success stunning mayweather briefly in the third round, but Mayweather quickly took over and dominated Corley with a brilliant offensive display making many feel that Mayweather was adapting a more crowd pleasing style. This was also the year Roy Jones lost to Antonio Tarver and the eye was turned to Mayweather to see if he would be the next era in boxing.
Advantage: Pacquiao
While Mayweather had a more impressive performance against Corley. Pacquiao fought the better opponent in Marquez, and it was a draw, he was also more active this year but they both really didnt achieve much in 2004 but Pacquiao got himself ranked at number 2 while Mayweather defeated the former champion. So it was almost even but the Marquez fight puts it in Pacquiao's corner.

Re: Mayweather vs Pacquiao Resumes
Now to 2005
2005 not such a good year for Pacquiao, he had always been critisized for being a one dimensional fighter after the Marquez performance, this fight with Erik Morales Freddie Roach said Pacquiao had a right hook he deemed Manilla Ice. Well Manilla Ice this night melted, as Pacqiao took on Erik Morales in a valiant but losing effort. He suffered a headbutt and a cut in this fight and fought back valiantly but Erik Morales gave a vintage performance and outboxed, and at times outslugged Manny Pacquiao. A rematch was evident. So Morales and Pacquiao both had tune up fights for each other. Pacquiao struggled early against the dirty Hector Velazquez but ultimately turned it on and stopped him setting it all up with a beautiful right hook. Erik morales however, looked a shell of himself, losing in a one sided fashion against Zahir Raheem.
2005 was a big year for the newly offensive minded Mayweather he and Light Welterweight Champion Arturo Gatti also had tune up fights setting up a matchup against each other. Mayweather dominated his opponent Henry Bruseles putting together a great performance of power and speed and dancing "literally" on Bruseles. Gatti knocked out James Leija.
Now this fight, Mayweather's first big PPV matchup against crowd favorite Artuto Gatti. Mayweather dominated and dismantled Gatti over 5 one sided rounds as Mayweather won his third world title in a third different weight class. New fights on the horizon it seemed for Mayweather would be to fight Ricky Hatton, who had just defeated Kostya Tszyu, was a fight everyone including Brian Kenny wanted Mayweather to take. Mayweather closed out the year moving up to Welterweight and destroying Sharmba Mitchell. This was also the year(because he did not fight Hatton) that the Floyd is "ducking" people talk began. And in the hype up to the Gatti fight the "Floyd as a bad guy gangster" image, was born.
Advantage: Mayweather
2005 was Mayweathers year, newly offensive minded, he put on some of the best performances of his career during it. pacquiao on the other hand lost to Morales and set up the rematch beating Hector Velazquez, Mayweather had the better 2005 and also won a world title in a 3rd different weight class while Pacquiao was unsuccessful at his attempts at another still.
Now onto 2006.
2006, the rematch that people had been clamoring to happen between Erik Morales and Manny Pacquiao finally came off. Though a bit tainted by Morales's terrible performance against Zahir Raheemm, the fight still happened, and it lived up to the hype, Pacquiao and Morales went at each other for 8 rounds before it started to look like Morales was wilting. Like the unbreakable wall that was Erik Morales had started to crumble, whether Morales was never on form since their first fight or whether Pacquiao finished off what was left in him, one thing was for sure, the Erik Morales era was over, and the Manny Pacquiao era had began. Pacquiao closed out the year fighting Oscar Larios in an unimpressive performance dropping Larios in the last round. And finished the career ending the career of Erik Morales, knocking him out in three rounds and sending him into retirement.
2006 for Mayweather was a huge year as well.
Mayweather had a fight set up with Zab Judah, whom many felt was the number one Welterweight 147 being the undisputed Welterweight Champion and also his impressive defense of those titles. Many felt it was a sure thing, a crossroads fight where Mayweather would finally be tested.. but then Zab Judah lost to Carlos Baldomir in what many felt would be a gimmie. However following the trend of the Erik Morales vs Manny pacquiao fight. Mayweather and Zab Judah went ahead with their fight as planned. This was heavily critisized by Brian Kenny and a lot of boxing fans who critisized Mayweather for cherry picking his fights because he did not fight Ricky Hatton at 140 and was fighting Zab Judag at 147 rather then Baldomir, or Antonio Margarito. Amazingly there was not this much backlash on Manny Pacquiao for choosing to fight Erik Morales in a rematch rather then Zahir Raheem.
Anyway. Judah gave Mayweather all he could handle for 3 rounds, until Mayweather adapted and started to take over and slowly dismantle Judah over the course of 12 rounds. Controversy erupted when Judah hit Floyd with a low blow in the 11th and caused a riot in the ring. However there was no question about who won the fight. Mayweather took the decision, and won his 4th world title in his 4th weight class, an achievement which many didn't really acknowledge because Zab had lost to Baldomir, and Baldomir was rightfully the Undisputed Champ and holder of all the titles.
Mayweather finished out the year by officially claiming his 4th world title in his 4th different weight class by defeating Undisputed Welterweight Champion Carlos Baldomir. Some thought Baldomir would be able to catch and hurt Mayweather because ever since Mayweather had started fighting more offensively he had also been getting hit more then anyone had seen him get hit particularly in the Judah fight.
However this fight would be the re-emergence of the old defensive Floyd Mayweather who soundly outboxed Carlos Baldomir over 12 rounds barely getting hit. Mayweather blamed the performance on a broken hand. However after this fight, despite being offensive minded in his last6 fights, Mayweather was labeled as a "boring" fighter.
Advantage: Mayweather
While Pacquiao's performance and win against Morales twice was wonderful, the wins seemed to be tainted with the fact Morales had already lost to Zahir Raheem. The same happened to Mayweather, but he went back and beat the person who beat the person before him(beating Baldomir and Judah) who were basically the one and two of the Welterweight division and capturing the Undisputed title in the process. And signifying his 4th world title in 4 different weight classes while Pacquiao was still chasing his 3rd in a 3rd weight class.

Re: Mayweather vs Pacquiao Resumes
Now to 2007
2007 was not too big of a year for Pacquiao, as he defeated unknown Jorge Solis, and then defeated Marco Antonio Barerra again in a fight where Barerra seemed content to just go the distance. This was a good win but at this point in Barerra's career he had struggled with Rocky Juarez and was soundly defeated by Juan Manuel Marquez and seemed past his prime at this point.
2007 for Mayweather was another huge year for Mayweather who seemed on a roll. He first moved up to 154 and fought Oscar De La Hoya in the biggest fight of his career and the mega fight of the year one of the hightst PPV drawing fights of all time. Mayweather soundly defeated the much bigger much heavier Oscar De La Hoya, but was awarded only a split decision. Oscar had some success in the early rounds using his jab but once again Mayweather adapted and Oscar later dispensed with it while being countered. As the fight wore on Mayweather took over and won the fight comfortably. With this win Mayweather secured his 5th title in a 5th different weight class.
Mayweather closed out 2007 with a knockout victory against WBC Welterweight Champion Ricky Hatton who people had been clamoring for him to fight for years. In another major huge PPV fight in what was supposed to be a close back and forth fight, once again Mayweather, having some issues early adapted and started to dominate Hatton later on and knocked him out in the 10th round for Hattons first stoppage loss of his career and reclaiming his welterweight title he abandoned moving up to fight Oscar De La Hoya earlier in the year. With this Victory Mayweather retired from boxing.
Advantage: Mayweather
Without a doubt, two megafights and two impressive victories, capturing his 5th championship in his 5th different weightclass. Mayweather at this point had the advantage and the better resume into retirement.
Now in 2008 Mayweather was retired, so this section will be about Pacquiao
To start off 2008 Manny Pacquiao tried once again to claim his third world title in a third different weight class in a long anticipated rematch with Juan Manuel Marquez. Many felt the new and improved Pacquiao, not as one dimensional a fighter that he was in theier previsous fight many expected Pacquiao to beat Marquez who seemed to be slowing down.
That was not the case... this fight was a lot rougher then the first fight and many believe that marquez handled Pacquiao even easier then the first time as he seemed to have him hurt on more then one occasion from his counters, Pacquiao scored a knockdown however and did some damage to Marquez as well, when the final bell rang many felt that marquez had one this fight, in a more clear fashion then the first. However Pacquiao was awarded a close split decision victory. A third fight with Marquez was put on the table, but Pacquiao and his promoter, didn't take it.
Pacquiao closed out the year moving up to 135 to defeat the WBC Lightweight champion David Diaz. Winning his 4th title in a 4th different weight class.
Then the mega fight, Pacquiao also had his mega fight against Oscar De La Hoya. Many felt that as vulnerable as Pacquiao had looked against Marquez, that Oscar the better, bigger boxer would be too much for Pacquiao.
But from the moment the bell rang, it was obvious that Oscar De La Hoya wasn't himself, that the cut to 147 had taken everything out of him as he took a beating from Manny Pacquiao over 8 one sides rounds barely getting off a punch. The eyes then shifted to Pacquiao, as the new face of boxing, after this victory.
Advantage: Pacquiao.
Mayweather was retired this year and Pacquiao achieved a lot, capturing two titles in two weight classes.

Re: Mayweather vs Pacquiao Resumes
In 2009
Pacquiao moved down to 140 to face off against Ricky Hatton. Hatton had rebounded from his loss to Mayweather after not looking too good in the fight after, defeated Paul Malignaggi with FLoyd Mayweather Sr in his corner. Hatton abandoned his strategy from the opening bell and tried to fight Pacquiao the old way he used to fight. Big mistake. Pacquiao stopped him in 3 rounds in the knockout of the year and then moved back up to 147. Pacquiao took on Miguel cotto, whom many, myself included felt that Cotto had looked a shell of himself since losing to Margarito and had barely won a decision from Joshua Clottey. And after the first two rounds Pacquiao began to take apart Cotto, stopping him late and capturing his 5th world title in a 5th different weight clas.
Mayweather made his return to boxing, taking apart and dominating Juan Manuel Marquez in a one sided fight. People critisized Mayweather for fighting the smaller Marquez. However others said given the nature of the beating and the style clash they had, that Mayweather was too good for Marquez regardless of the weight. Those who critisized Floyd Mayweather for fighting Marquez said he should fight Shane Mosley whom is considered the "True" champion at welterweight.
Advantage: Pacquiao
Pacquiao fought more often and had two more relevant fights, Mayweather may have beaten the guy that gave Pacquiao hell twice but Pacquiao won his 5th world title in a 5th different weight class.
Now on to this year 2010 what there is so far.
Pacquiao has started the year with a bang turned fizzle.
The fight "meant to happen" fell apart over drug testing but im not gonna go into that, it's not what this thread is about.
Pacquiao fought Joshua Clottey in a fight a lot of people felt it would go the way it did but were hoping that Clottey would surprise them by comign forward and pressing it. He didn't and Pacquiao while at times looking vulnerable still dominated and won the fight clearly.
Mayweather is poised to fight in a mega fight against Shane Mosley, leaving one with Pacquiao to make one with Mosley who people were criticizing him for not fighting after the Marquez fight, Floyd seems to be rectifying that this year. The fight is set to happen May 1st.
Advantage: Mayweather
Mayweather has left one super fight to fight another against Mosley and is going to be fighting the much better opponent and "true" Welterweight champ as people call him and ultimately makes a bigger fight and an even bigger statement if he beats Mosley. Pacquiao on the other hands it was being talked about that he may retire after Clottey run for congress and a bunch of extra stuff, Mayweather has shown no inclinations of it and will probably make more fights before the year is over. It's Mayweather's advantage before the fight has even happened and if they do not(Mayweather and Pacquiao) fight this year, it will be his advantage at the end of the year.
Resume Advantage: Mayweather
Pacquiao has all the hype behind him but according to this and all the hours i just put in looking over both their records and etc, it seems that Mayweather's resume and accomplishments are a little underrated and Pacquiao's are a little overrated.
But I want to hear all of your inputs on this, if you have an argument and etc.
And please, don't mention PED's or etc, or have a flame war. I actually would like this thread to have a lot of input and opinions. Peace SB!
-
Re: Mayweather vs Pacquiao Resumes
This thread has been done before. There's also no need to do it till Mayweather fights Mosley. If he beats him then maybe it's worth doing. But right now all it does is recycle a dead topic. Some people like Pacquiao. Others like Mayweather. You can frame their resumes either way to favour one or the other.
Fuck this shit till it's clear that they are actually gonna fight, if that ever happens.

Seriously you are becoming the most annoying person on this forum the more I read your posts, you need firstly take your tongue from Mayweathers arsehole, are you that stupid??
Your'e saying Pac wasnt critisized for fighting Morales again but Mayweather was for fighting Judah. MORALES BEAT PAC YOU MORON THAT'S WHY THE REMATCH WAS MADE AND FOR YOUR INFORMATION MORALES WAS AN 8/11 FAVOURITE I NO BECAUSE I LOST MONEY ON IT!
A little bit different to fighting Judah wouldn't you say, as I dont recall Judah dominating Mayweather the first time they met.
I think you and JTrock should start your own Mayweather fan club, youre opinions are so bias is unfucking real!!!

What I meant was there was a lot of anticipation for the Pacquiao Mayweather fight and when it didn't happen he fought Clottey. Thats what I meant by a started with a bang(prospect of Pacquiao vs Mayweather) and fizzle (ended up with Clottey vs Pacquiao)
A lot of people weren't really anticipating Pacquiao vs Clottey, but people still anticipate Mayweather vs Mosley. Thats why i said on Pacquiao's side it fizzled because we got Clottey instead of Mayweather. But the fact Mayweather is fighting Mosley is a bigger fight. Basically.
So the fizzle had nothing to do with him not testing or him losing, it had to do with the prospect of the fights he was scheduled for this year and what has happened so far.
And I also took excuses that were made on both ends of their wins
EG: Pacquiao vs Barerra the excuse that Barerra had personal issues.
Corrales v Mayweather the weight drain excuse
I gave the excuses given in their big fights but still give them full credit for it.
And in the resume advantages it was 6 for Mayweather and 4 for Pacquiao.
if we don't count the last one(because the year is over. Its only a 5 to 4 advantage. It wasn't a one sided article for Mayweather.
And I didn't make an excuse for the Marquez performance, I touched on his criticisms and said Pacquiao had the better year and more meaningful wins in 2009 didnt I?

Re: Mayweather vs Pacquiao Resumes
Pacquiao has the better resume especially at 147.
Mayweathers resume at 147 will look alot better if he wins against Mosley.

Re: Mayweather vs Pacquiao Resumes
Good post but posts like this will only get flamed because the fanboys will side with the fighter of their choice not based of the actual resumes but only because they dislike the other fighter. Any REAL boxing fan could clearly see that overall Floyd has the best resume.

It all depends on perspective. Thats why I gave mine and wanted to hear others. And why im ignoring any responses that would just start a flame war. If people have a different idea I'd rather they say it here instead of just saying "OH YOU'RE STUPID YOU ARE A FANBOY etc etc etc".

Re: Mayweather vs Pacquiao Resumes
Mayweather ducks any an everyone that is a threat, Dont let the Mosley fight confuse you. He was forced into that Fight by HBO(HBO said they would not show his next fight if it was against lesser competition) and the Fans. He does not want that Fight.
Mosley will stop Floyd, Just watch.

Re: Mayweather vs Pacquiao Resumes
The guy you said that Pacquiao won his 1st title from was the lineal champion at flyweight. You may never heard of the guy or think who cares about flyweights, but becoming a lineal champion is a very impressive feat at any weight class especially at 19 years old. That is a rare feat in boxing history to become the man of a division in your teenage years. So I wouldn't play that down as you're trying to. IMO that feat is one of Pacquiao's greatest accomplishments.

I Disagree. Sasakul is the bigger win. dude was the recognized champion of the division.

Because you disagree with what someone says you neg rep them and say F off? Really? You internet warriors amaze me. And no the OP did not create this account is it impossible for someone to agree with him?

Re: Mayweather vs Pacquiao Resumes
I agree with Majesty. Pac gets a lot of praise because of his personality and it makes people really wanna like him and his accomplishments. Where as floyd gets a lot of hate for his personality and equally on his fighting. You all say that pac has the better resume but you will be the same people that will claim mayweather picked on a smaller guy if he fights and beats pac.

I Disagree. Sasakul is the bigger win. dude was the recognized champion of the division.
Alright, I've repped everyone in this thread that has said something productive so far. Whether agreeing or disagreeing. Thanks everyone for your input so far.
Now, I'd especially like to thank miron_lang and generalbulldog, who informed me about Sasakul and who he was and his ranking.
Baring the information they both gave me I weighed in Pacquiao's accomplishment against Mayweathers. Credit's given and edited information is outlined on the first post. Thanks you two. If i could rep you twice I would.

Re: Mayweather vs Pacquiao Resumes
Don't know why Majesty is getting such abuse on this thread all he did was try and express his opinions.
For me I think I can't decide, because they need to fight each other for it to be finally settled.
Manny is the form guy, the exciting, crowd pleaser but Floyd has never lost a fight.
I do think a win over Shane would be a bigger win than anything Manny has so far done so maybe Floyd will have the best bragging rights then, but even then Mosely has lost several fights in his career and so isn't unbeatable.
Ultimately it won't be settled until they fight. Manny's wins over Cotto and Clottey show that size shouldn't be a factor at least, this fight will come down to skill. 2010 has so far been a shit one for boxing with hardly any decent fights in months, hopefully it can end with the big one though.

Bilbo baggins of the Shire
Shane Mosley lost to a fighter named Miguel Cotto whom Pacquio TKO'd. Shane is still a very good fighter but is also 38 yrs old and hasnt fought in over a year.
Marco Antonio Barrera was also a TOP p4p fighter in 2003 with a streak of wins over highly regarded fighters as Erik Morales, Nazeem Hamed, Johny Tapia, Enrique Sanchez and Kevin Kelley. After the loss to Pacquiao Barrera rebounded by beating JuarezX2, Robbie Peden, Erik Morales en route to his 3rd Division title.
IMO Barrera and Cotto are bigger wins than this upcoming version of Shane Mosley who showed some signs of declining againts Vargas and mayorga.

Re: Mayweather vs Pacquiao Resumes
My opinion is based on how they fought ODLH.

Re: Mayweather vs Pacquiao Resumes
I think their resumes were pretty much even however tiny Manny has established himself as a fairly dominant Welterweight (which is shocking as ICB stated in his excellent thread).
Let's see how Floyd handles Mosley... Before that fight, I can't really make a full conclusive decision.

No offence, you do this a hell of a lot too. You dislike Mayweather and that quite clearly affects your posts a lot of the time.
Skel, not quite sure what that tirade was about - At the very least, I give praise to Majesty for the effort to write this up.
When I made a post comparing the two resumes, I don't remember getting flamed to shit - In fact it turned into a pretty civil debate if I remember correctly because IT IS a very valid topic and as correctly pointed out, both of their resumes are looked at in a very skewed perspective by either their fans or their detractors.
Bilbo and Caine, you've got reps for your level headed posts (Caine, the Mayweather having the best resume is debatable though)

I think the excuse Cotto has not been the same since the Margarito fight has some significance when talking about that fight, Floyd beating Mosley and Pac beating Cotto are quite even in terms of which is the better win.

He got beat by a very good fighter who just so happened to be wearing plaster cast
Cotto came back by tearing through jennings (hardly an acheivement i know) and taking a decision over a very durable clottey
Im really getting sick to death of everyone claiming pacquiao beat shot fighters. Hatton and cotto were by no means shot

Hatton was close to shot, but I don't think that would've made any difference to the outcome, he just might've gone a few more rounds.
The Cotto of 3 or 4 years earlier would've tested Pac a lot more imo

Come on mate Jennings lol but Pac's resume is alot better imo. I like the way Morales was shot in the second fight even though he was the betting favourite going in? Hatton had already been beaton by Mayweather but that was at 147, in a division Hatton had already looked out of his depth against a B standard fighter in Collazo, where as Pac destroyed him in two rounds in a division he was unbeaton in and the lineal champ for just under 4 years, but then you could say the Dela Hoyas win was much more impressive when Floyd beat him.
Overall i am not bashing Floyd but it is hard not to pick holes when you have Majesty making threads/posts about Mayweather every ten minutes the guy couldn't give a impartial opinion if you paid him a million dollers.

im just about gay for hatton but even i would tell you the hatton that beat tszyu would still of got banged out by pacquiao in the manner that he did
Same thing with cotto, the very man who fought mosley, judah. torres etc would still of get annihilated in with pacquiao
The guys superhuman, a complete freak of nature who punches like a middleweight and throws them like a lightweight

I've said it before and I'll say it again.... I strongly believe that if Mosley had taken an immediate rematch (or a rematch at any point) he would of faired much better. (As he always does, I might add)
Mosley showed that if your tough and can put pressure on Cotto, he wilts. Yes Cotto moved beautifully in retreat but he was wilting, as his successive fights proved.
Mosley is a better fighter than Cotto... Always has been.
Therefore if Mayweather beats Mosley convincingly, it has to be regarded as the biggest scalp for either fighter.

Yeah but we're not looking at the last 3 years are we? We're looking at overall.
Overall, their resumes are a lot closer than people give Mayweather credit for..Is it better? Maybe..maybe not.
I can see the arguement for either side but if PBF's result against Mosley is positive it is as close as can be and perhaps advantage Floyd.
The point is if you dislike Floyd...You'll say he fought De La Hoya instead of a legit welterweight and he didn't put in a virtuoso performance like Pacquiauo did.
If you like Floyd, you'll say Floyd took on an even bigger challenge than any welterweight out there at the time by moving up in weight and conceding all advantages and winning. Where as Pac beat a corpse of De La Hoya which seemed to be no challenge at all.
For this reason, nobody will ever agree and why I think it is stupid to flame anybody who expresses an opinion in this particular type of thread.
There are no facts in threads like this. Just biased opinions based on who you like/dislike

I agree with your post. I'm more sick of endless threads about just 2 fighters rather than with Majesty, I'll admit his post is very well written up & thought out.
I know Pacquiao just fought but we don't need another thread on this & I'm not the only one frustrated with it. Most people dislike or like one fighter more than the other & make their decision on that.
The simple fact is that both these guys have the best resumes in the sport there are only a handful of active guys who's resumes are even comparable (JMM, Mosley, Cotto, Jermain Taylor, Hopkins), although I feel all but JMM & Cotto's probably fall short. Anyone who says one fighter has a much better resume is an idiot. Either way it's narrow. I'm just going to copy the post I made in your thread.
Their resumes are basically equivalent, although I'd give Manny a slight edge as of right now, although should both win their next fights, I think the Mosley win would push Mayweather's just ahead. The easiest way to look at is the number of hall of famers they have both faced.
Pacquiao: (Certain HoFers) Marco Antonio Barrera, Erik Morales, Juan Manuel Marquez, Oscar De La Hoya (Probable) Ricky Hatton, Miguel Cotto, Chatchai Sasakul (Possible but unlikely) Oscar Larios
Mayweather: (Certain HoFers) Genaro Hernandez, Diego Corrales, Juan Manuel Marquez, Oscar De La Hoya (Probable) Jose Luis Castillo, Arturo Gatti, Ricky Hatton (Possible but unlikely) Zab Judah, Jesus Chavez
So that's pretty close to even, but with Pacquiao having a slight edge. Part of the whole 'ducking' issue also comes down to where people watch fights. Anything below Lightweight doesn't get much attention, even among many fans. You can make an argument that Mayweather should have fought Margarito or Cotto, however you can equally make the same argument for Pacquiao with the likes of Joan Guzman, Nate Campbell or Humberto Soto at the lower weights. In the end, both have taken more than enough dangerous fights and have probably the best resumes in the sport and once their careers are over, the fights they 'ducked' will be forgotten in favour of realizing just how many dangerous opponents they fought.
