Did Danny Green hit RJJ in the temple or back of the head?
Just wondering because I still haven't watched it, just heard guys arguing about it at the gym today. Haven't watched a Roy fight since since glen johnson...

Re: Did Danny Green hit RJJ in the temple or back of the head?
Looked a fair punch to me. Certainly wasn't a rabbit punch.

Look for yourself; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G8GiIED4StU
To me it looks like Danny caught RJJ behind the ear, clearly not intentional because Roy was dipping forward...imo

Jones was just overwhelmed...He NEVER expected Green to come out like that he thought it was going to be a show case fight for him....Green would just follow him all night and get pot shotted....The shot caught him by surprise IMO...Looked to the ear more then anything....Though looking at the follow up Green really was not landing much of worth...Jones did not really look that hurt but just my opp

Yep looks like a rabbit punch, but Roy did turn his head like he always does. I guess thought the punch was coming straighter than it did. Wasn't intentional, but def see the punch landing behind the ear/head area...but WTF they stopped it because Roy covered up?!!!!! So painful to watch....

Re: Did Danny Green hit RJJ in the temple or back of the head?
Looks like it struck around the back of the ear, it would have hurt like hell.

Gotta disagree with that.
Jones was really hurt. When he got knocked down, his legs looked gone and he had trouble getting up.
He had nothing to give back. In fact, I don't remembering him throwing anymore punches.

Yes he did. And he did it with loaded gloves from what I hear

I forgot all about the loaded gloves controversy, and those allegations were never proven false were they ?

Re: Did Danny Green hit RJJ in the temple or back of the head?
I think the stumble backwards into the ropes sealed the deal for the ref. Loaded gloves thing seemed like a desperate attempt by Jones to save fac. Why wait a month to say anything, if he saw the wraps before the fight?

I don't think anyone takes Jones' accusations seriously.

Yeah neither did I. The punch was legit too, Jones got caught cold and paid for it. Shit happens.

Except for VD takes Jones' accusations seriously.
He used to lean out like that and deflect with his arm and shoulder.
He leaned out but nothing else moved with it.

Re: Did Danny Green hit RJJ in the temple or back of the head?
Looked like a legit punch to me. It's so sad, and hard for me to watch this video. RJJ is a legend, and to see him look like that is sad.

Re: Did Danny Green hit RJJ in the temple or back of the head?
The punch seemed fair enough, but I thought Jones was recovering at the time of the stoppage. He was covering up and just wanting to see the round out. Green was hitting gloves and arms with most of those shots and would have blown his load by the rounds end. But that's just my take and I'm sure many would disagree. Jones was caught early and hadn't fought at a higher weight in a good while, the power caught him by surprise and he simply wasn't quick enough to get out the way.
I'm kind of looking forward to the Hopkins fight this weekend and I am convinced that Jones Jr will put on a decent show.

I hope you're right but he looked like shit in training..he was constantly stepping on the rope, no rhythm on speed bag...very difficult to watch

Re: Did Danny Green hit RJJ in the temple or back of the head?
Depends on who you ask. If you ask a fan of jones he got hit in the temple, if you ask a boxing fan he just straight got clocked to the dome. He's been hit in various places and went to sleep everytime, don't think it really matters much.

Re: Did Danny Green hit RJJ in the temple or back of the head?
Looked like it was just behind the ear - but only because Jones put his head in that position.
As far as Danny Green goes it was a 100% legit punch but a slightly iffy stoppage, the ref didn't stop it because Green was subsequently hurting Jones but because he was throwing so many unanswered punches - he decided it was probable that Jones would get hurt because he wasn't showing that he was going to do anything to answer or effectively evade.
I still think that he should of let him ride it out, but it is a very understanable stoppage, not very easy to argue with.

Yeah theres a bit to be said for the standing count sometimes.

Re: Did Danny Green hit RJJ in the temple or back of the head?
It was around temple area imo, it wasn't a perfectly clean shot though. It look grazing to me.
At first i thought the stoppage was premature but Roy was all over the place even after getting knocked down, a couple of times you see his legs go funky, then the ref jumped in. Green was hitting mostly arms and gloves with the flurries he threw though.
Watching that Vid actually makes me feel sad, Roy should of retired long ago. He shouldn't be losing to the likes of Green.

Re: Did Danny Green hit RJJ in the temple or back of the head?
I have a very uncomfortable feeling about this weekend, and won't be watching the fight.
Check out the video called 'Bad Wrap' on the front page of ESPN - Roy is fucking delusional.
Boxing News, Rankings, Results, and History - Championship Boxing - ESPN
I really hope Bernard carries him, I really do. I know there is a bit of friendship between the two (SecondsOut Boxing News - Thomas Hauser - Joe Calzaghe vs. Roy Jones Jr), so I'm really hoping nobody gets hurt...
Bernard Hopkins came into the room. Roy rose to greet him.
“Are you all right?” Hopkins asked.
“Doing fine.”
The two men hugged.
“It’s all about respect,” Roy said. “You got yours, man.”
“You too, baby.”
Bernard left.

i dunno about that mate
He was in bad shape, but he was still putting up a guard and seemed able to defend himself
Had that fight of been in the uk or us it would never of got stopped

In some cases i agree that it wouldn't of been stopped.
Jones was protecting himself but the ref stopped it because he was coming back with no shots of his own all the while his legs weren't under him.
I can't blame the ref on stopping it basically. I myself would of let Jones continue abit longer.
-
Re: Did Danny Green hit RJJ in the temple or back of the head?
I think that it should have continued but that the knock down was very legit, I did look at it a few times and it looks good, the only thing making it not 100% clear is because Jones turns his head but it was a good one.

Your end comment is so true, considering that Danny Green. Got his ass handed to him but a poor man's version of RJJ aka Anthony Mundine.
Its just sad to see your hero's losing like that, RJJ was always a big inspiration to me, like Muhammad Ali was to people in the 70s.

spot on
however much i try and sugar coat it RJJ was out on his feet and its pretty much at the refs discretion what he does from then on in. He gave him a chance and perhaps his argument was that jones just wasnt throwing anything back

Roy isn't one of my favourite fighters but damn do i have respect for him.
In his prime, he was amazing to watch. It's a shame to see him fall like he has over the past 6 years.
Luckily for me, Hopkins hasn't gone through anything like Roy has, Hopefully he retires before it gets to that stage for him.

I have seen Roy in many interviews and he still thinks he will once again be on top....I just hope that maybe Bernard can take away any hope he has in his heart so he does retire for good....I mean at least Hopkins is not a vicious KO puncher.....One day one of these young hard hitters will hurt him seriously if he goes on...
Any KO Roy has suffered have been pretty serious ones....The one in the Johnson fight is the type that has ended fighters careers for good

Re: Did Danny Green hit RJJ in the temple or back of the head?
Hopkins hasn't look too impressive last time out.
Remember he lost to Danny Green at Cruiserweight and it was a shot to the temple that would hurt anyone. Ask Vernon Forrest.
I dunno if Roy is as bad as he seems, he took all those punches from Calzaghe and didn't falter, he is fighting Bernard at Super Middleweight I don't think bernard has that power that a cruiserweight green has, and Roy looked pretty good against lazy and seemed to be implementing a jab in the Green fight.
Call me crazy but I think he may use a strategy similar to what Jermain Taylor did against Bernard by keeping him on the end of a jab and trying to watch for a right hand.
Roy is like an old ali with his style nowadays, if Bernard is gonna play spoiler, I think Roy has a chance.

Roy doesn't have the chin Ali had
Calzaghe is not a hard hitter what so ever...I mean he hit Lacy what 800 times?
Roy has never been a jabber....

Roy has been an extraordinary jabber when he decides to use it. He used it against Ruiz and Pazienza. He usually leads with his left because he is so fast but when he used a jab he had a great one. since he has been older he seems to have been using his straights more then his hooks. So if he uses that jab against Hopkins he can take him out of his game.
Hopkins isn't the hardest puncher right now either. The last person Hopkins KO'd was Oscar De la Hoya. He has power but I don't know if he hits as hard as tarver at Light Heavyweight or as hard as Green at cruiserweight.
-
Re: Did Danny Green hit RJJ in the temple or back of the head?
He was a great fast shoot from the hip loose jabber not a text book stand up jabber.

Maybe I worded it wrong....
Jones is not a fighter who uses his jab as a main part of his arsenal....EG- He does not use it every fight to set things up....
I don't see him changing it now...hell he has all he can do to look decent in the ring.....His style is/was one that worked so well because of his great reflexes he did not need to keep hands up high and could shoot from the hip....Today that is not so
