Barrera comeback! June 26th Alamodome Texas
http://www.boxingscene.com/?m=show&id=27146
The legend returns after over a year out since the farce in England with Amir Khan when he was stopped by a cut caused from a headbutt.
Barrera is now with Top Rank but it hasnt been confirmed. Duno who the opponent is but he is being lined up to fight the undefeated Paulus Moses who may be the best lightweight now that Valero has died.
Also on the bill Jorge Arce and John Duddy vs Chavez Jnr

Re: Barrera comeback! June 26th Alamodome Texas
Why did it take so long to decide this?
I'm glad he is back but there was no reason to wait a year following Amir bloody Khan!
-
Re: Barrera comeback! June 26th Alamodome Texas
Barrera should be retired.
-
Re: Barrera comeback! June 26th Alamodome Texas
Gotta wonder if the Morales comeback has anything to do with this.
-
Re: Barrera comeback! June 26th Alamodome Texas
i seriously don't get how anyone could be excited about either Morales or Barrera coming back

:appl:...I mean it is obvious neither has what it takes anymore to compete with decent fighters let alone world class or elite.....
Sad KO endings possibly serious damage in the future for them....I hope either someone decides to not license them or talk sense into them....

thing is Barrera is really putting himself in danger, he's fighting at Lightweight, against a REAL lightweight, who's young, undefeated and making a name for himself based on his punching power, honestly don't see how that's gonna end well

Re: Barrera comeback! June 26th Alamodome Texas
I don't know why both are coming back...they are not kidding me....I don't expect them to do much...i am sad that they need to come back.....they have already tarnished their legacy by doing this...please please please get them outta this sport....its suicide!!!
Job Biscuit (Young man's sport....retire please)!!!!

Exactly. I feel the same way about him as a feel about Roy Jones or Eric Morales or a dozen other former greats. You're old, you're done, give it up before you get hurt.
I have very little interest in seeing Barrera continue to fight.

Re: Barrera comeback! June 26th Alamodome Texas
Go be a fucking barrister man. Good money and tens of years of work till you want to retire.
You don't need boxing anymore, you made your mark, stop putting dirt on it.

I'm torn on Barrera's latest comeback.
He has always been one of my favourites and I love watching him fight. In his defence he hasn't been getting knocked out by anyone in recent fights and has the all round skills to probably ensure that he comes to no real harm. The same can't be said for Jones nor Morales.
I will continue to support him and I hope he can get his LW title and then retire with his head held high. The bullshit Khan fight was certainly no way to bow out.

Re: Barrera comeback! June 26th Alamodome Texas
You mean Barrera is also on the Duddy card. ;D Duddy is gonna beat Chavez Jr. and then Arum is gonna hook him up a title shot. This is gonna be a damn good fight, both are about same level. Duddy has more chin/heart, and he's one of my favorite fighters.

Re: Barrera comeback! June 26th Alamodome Texas
Barrera hung in against Pac, he didnt get ktfo like Hatton, Cotto, And odlh. I didnt see the Khan fight, and I think he was getting outboxed, but wasnt it a headbutt? Give him a chance, this isnt in the Holyfield category yet.

The worst cut in recent memory. The fight should have been ruled a NC after 3 rounds really as it was from a clash of heads. That fight was a disgrace.
I agree, Barrera is hardly in Holyfield territory here. He doesn't really need to fight, but that last showing didn't really tell us anything about Khan nor Barrera.

Exactly. Pac destroys guys like Oscar, Hatton and Cotto but Barrera cruises through 12 without ever looking like going down but its Barrera who people are saying should retire. He did well in that fight for a washed up fighter, the commentary even said it was a draw or a Barrera win. Then came the fight/ farce headbutt from Khan where it would have been ruled a NC in any other Country but this one. Khan has since won a world title. Barreras other big fight was a close 1 with Marquez where he landed more punches statistically, he was the less marked up at the end and he scored the only knockdown. Floyd didnt stop Marquez and he only put him down once aswel.
So it annoys me when people call for fighters retirement. If you dont like watching old men like Hopkins and Jones then dont tune in but you cant stop them from earning a living.

Dailylight robbery of epic proportions
khan butts him blatantly right at the start of the fight and the ref lets it go on until after 4 knowing MAB cant see out of one eye therefore khan winning enough rounds so when it does go to the scorecards he wins
Should of been stopped the moment it was dripping all into his eyes, barrera was robbed

Because he's done. He's been a legend, but him fighting again isn't good for your blood pressure. He's got nothing more to prove. it's time to get a new hero.
How about that Khan lad?
;D

I will support him for one final run, if he gets beaten properly then I will admit it's over, but no one can realistically say Khan beat Barrera fair and square. But yes, the aftermath of the Khan fight was a bit much. All these people going on about how Khan was outboxing Barrera. I challenge anyone to fight effectively with a blood gushing into their eye every round. Not just gushing but actively spurting from veins ripped right down to the cranium. It wasn't pretty and should have been stopped.
I can't support Khan after all that has happened. He's become the bad guy with everything being handed over on a plate. I want to see him humbled.

For some reason I can't think of another fighter that's been handed easy fights like Khan to be a "star" in boxing, a past his prime 1 eye Barrera, Kotelnik (1 of the worst titleholders at 140), Dmitry Salita, and now feather fisted Paulie.
Khan also said he should be ready for Floyd and Manny in 4 years. lol
He's hoping they become past their prime or shot by that time.
Calzaghe and Froch were right, Con boy is an manufactured champ.

Froch for all his faults has come up the hard way and that's why I have quite a bit of respect for him. He isn't always pretty but he's fighting the best fight in fight out. Then you compare him with a gobby little so and so like Amir Khan. Like you say, he gets all the breaks and for no good reason. Froch is arrogant, but he can back it up to a degree. Khan hasn't beaten anyone yet as far as I'm concerned and here he is being groomed for HBO?
I'm not keen on Khan at all and don't think I will ever be able to support him. There is just something about him and his setup that grates with me.

I actually like Froch too, sometimes he says odd things but he ducks no one and will give it his all.
Khan imo is the poster boy of what is wrong with certain elements of boxing. Took the easy road to be a world "champ" selectively cherry picks the right opponents, granted every boxer does it to a certain degree, but after getting a world title, it's time to take on real challenges. ANd he's never really proven himself like 99% of the top boxers out there. I think after Paulie he fights a shot Morales, that has been mentioned by Roach.:-\

To be fair he took his mandatory and now he's taking Paulie, who was deemed legitimate opposition for both Cotto and Hatton. Not sure how you can find fault in that. He's got plenty of time to test himself against the divisions best.
