What's your bodyfat percentage?
I've been working out for the last 5 weeks now in an attempt to get into good enough shape to move out of my fatties only shagging phase and get to nail plenty of average looking birds.
When I started my bodyfat percentage according to my Tanita scales was 20.8% and put me into the just overweight category.
5 short weeks later and it now reads 19.1% a pretty healthy reduction I think.
I've come down to 145.5 lbs from 148 too and my target is to drop below 140 for the first time in 12 years (cancer wastage not withstanding of course) and then start to bulk up with a bit of muscle building.
My long term goal is for my scales to read 15% bodyfat which would be pretty impressive for an almost 36 year old man I think.
I'd love to think I could get down to sub 10%, but that may be beyond me.
So for those who know it, what's yours?

Re: What's your bodyfat percentage?
Interestingly according to simple online calculators my bodyfat is 16.7% and my BMI 22.4 which is pretty much ideal.
I think I'm a little fatter than that, mainly because I have very little muscle.
But as this is me at the bottom it's not bad and gives me something to build from.
I'd hate to start with a BMI of like 30 or something.

Re: What's your bodyfat percentage?
Well i haven't had my body fat percentage taken, but i can clearly see my sixpack. Which normally means below 10 percent, so i'd say atleast a good 9 percent body fat.

Re: What's your bodyfat percentage?
How do you work out what your body fat percentage is? I really have no idea how that works....
I'm a lanky skinny, bugger with a devilish metabolism so I can't see my body fat ratio being that high, but would have no idea how to score it. I'm 6'3 and and weigh in at about 76-77kg/167-169lbs (not that I would ever weigh in mind!). Not a whole lot of lard I could trim. I don't have a six pack or anything though, so I'm sure there is something there, but not a whole heap.

Re: What's your bodyfat percentage?
No, that's not quite true, I just did a cm to inches conversion and I am actually 6'2. I am sorry for any damage caused by this misinformation. Particularly to Bruce Lee who has an idealised image of me. I may have broken his poor little heart.

Re: What's your bodyfat percentage?
Right now am probs over 10% easy, maybe like 11-12% I'd guess. I'm not far off in stature from you miles and as well weight, but probs 6-8 lbs heavier and an inch shorter.
I got no current 6 pack either. To be honest bout the 6 pack deal, that don't mean a lot. I've had it, but not cuz of how great of shape I was in, but because I had to cut weight, and water weight to make fights. At one point I was close to 5% bodyfat and I looked freakishly ripped. Did that to get to 154lbs a but more then a year ago for a provincial tournament. And it was easily the worst condition I'd ever been in, in regards to healthy for the sake of fighting.

Well according to the calculators I can find online you're definitely not overweight.
6 ft 2 and 169 lbs gives you a BMI of 21.6 which is ideal.
That would give you a rough estimate bodyfat percentage of around 6%.
I imagine if you can't see a six pack then like me you must be a low muscle guy and therefore would bump it up to over 10%
Like Ice said less than ten percent and if you had any muscle you'd have a six pack for sure.
I think you need to do some weight training like me, as it sounds like you're pretty much fat, skin and bone like myself :p

If you're 6 ft 1 and say 175 lbs that would be 12.6% according to the most basic calculation. As a boxer you're clearly more muscular than me and Miles as well so I expect that would be accurate or maybe even a little high.
I'd love to have a 12% body fat, and be 6 ft 1 and 175 lbs, and fucking 14 again, you cunt ;D

No, definitely not overweight. If anything a little bit too skinny. Certainly not very muscular.
Yeah, could defo use some weight training. My arms are very skinny. Might be a good idea to start doing a few situps every day too. I alway start exercise with good intentions but then I get lazy again. It's hard to stay focussed when it comes to health and I see why Ricky Hatton has all but given up on it in his quest for pleasure. I doubt I will ever end up like him though.

I'm getting really into my fitness again now. When I took it up seriously a few years ago I invested heavily in all top end fitness equipment, spent almost £4000 in all.
So now I'm actually using it all again it feels like all new toys. My bike is awesome, it's got video footage as you cycle and every time I use it I cycle through this lush forest track. It simulates going up and down hill, it's really very clever and means I can feel like I've been out of the house for a ride even though I'm actually just swapping one computer screen for another.
This is my bike here on youtube, it's very addictive.

That looks pretty cool. It would be good if you could rotate the camera and look around at the scenery while you cycle.
They should invent some kind of game so that you can exercise and play at the same time. You could cycle around picturesque English cities shooting people or something. It would get the kids off their rear ends.

They are already well ahead of you there Miles. There's this Taxc virtual reality trainer which I REALLY wanted to buy.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eNu9bhJ7CD8&feature=fvw
The trouble is it's a device you sit a real bike on and then connect it your pc and I didn't have a way of setting it all up. Obviously I can't put a bike in front of my pc it would be right in the way.
Plus I can't imagine sitting on a real bike is very comfortable for long periods. But it does it look really fucking cool. And on the computer animated courses you can indeed cycle wherever you want, and even go offroad.
I spent weeks agonising about whether to buy it or not, but had to decide not to as it would mean buying a second pc with a big monitor and I didn't have the space or want to spend that much money.
But a lot of exercise equipment is like that now.
I've also got a Concept 2 rower and that I plug that into my laptop now and again so I can use the Rowpro software which is pretty cool. The graphics are dated by today's standards but it's fun to actually row on a virtual lake against other rowers, either pace boats you create or real people live online.
This is Rowpro,
YouTube - 2k Concept2 Time Trial
It's pretty neat although I mostly row without it as I can never be bothered to set up my laptop and plug it into the rower.
I use it periodically when I download someone's time and then work to beat it.
A couple years ago there was this guy called Seth Trotz who was about 62 and clocked a time in the 5000 metres of 24:44 and I trained for a month to try and beat him.
It was an epic moment, I had him and two others in the race and with me almost blacking out I managed to accelerate away at the end and smashed his time by two whole seconds. I then fell on the floor and was unable to get up for about 10 minutes but it was an acomplishment I'll not forget.
I'm going to get back into training again to beat him again before the summer

Re: What's your bodyfat percentage?
I haven't had it taken in a bit but I imagine I'm somewhere around 12-13 percent just going off past times I've used the calipers comparing them to the shape I'm in now. Who knows though I could have just an inflated opinion of myself ;D The old gym I used to go to SPD was a top notch facility who they had a pool where you could go underwater step on a skill, do some exercises and they could calculate your exact body fat. That was like 30 bucks but it was a complete analysis, so I never did it but I would like to one day as it seems to be the most accurate.
I have a partial six pack, I'm not washboard status by any means but it wouldn't take much I've just been eating out a lot after golfing and I notice my face has gotten a lot fatter lately, looking at that golf picture I posted it's kind of disturbing how fat my face has become but I've really done 0 toning exercises lately just been working on building my raw strength.

Rowing machines are LEGIT, I couldn't believe how much they kicked my ass the first time I used them in high school. I wish my gym had one.

Yeah I love mine. I have to row at a very slow pace though. My 5000 metre pieces are typically just under 2:30/500 pace whereas you see guys on youtube rowing at under 2:00/500 but it still gives the same workout benefits, I mean my heart gets up to 185 bpm peak which at 35 is probably my maximum possible heartrate.
Of course with my lungs the way they are my heart is at 120 bpm just by sitting on the machine but I can still feel the benefits.
I really want to knock about 10 bpm off my resting heart rate. I think my current resting rate is close to 90 bpm and if I could get it down to below 80 I'd feel so much less concerned about my future health problems.

I'd love to think I could get down to sub 10%, but that may be beyond me.

Not a dwarf, a hobbit!
I'm 5 ft 7.5 in. I don't want to permanently be a 10 stone weakling but I'd like to lose the bodyfat I have. I am not overweight at all according to my BMI but I have little muscle and so the weight I do have is fat. I reckon I need to lose about 10 lbs of fat to look totally lean, which would be about right when you consider all the 5 ft 7 in boxers in the featherweight division.
Once I've lost the fat then I intend to switch my intentions to muscle building and I'll go on a bulking program, hoping to add 10 lbs of muscle.
So my longterm plan is to actually weigh the same as before I started 10 stone 7, but replace 10 lbs of fat with 10 lbs of muscle.
You can't burn fat and build muscle at the same so I want to lose the fat first, plus I find cardio more enjoyable than heavy weights session as I can do it sitting down! :D

I am no expert but it surely would be a lot easier to bulk than strip, while you are bulking you can build the muscle rather than loose all the fat then try build the muscle with no fat at all. But each to there own, I was doing a lot of running recently 8 miles every other day but I have had a lot on recently and neglected it I need to get back into it, I am currently around 172 lbs around 5 10.5, I would like to be around 175 with a bit of size, at the moment I am a bit heavy round the gut and breast area. :D

The other issue is because I have chronic pulmonary fibrosis (lung damage) cardiovascular exercise is paramount. I really need to be working on my aerobic fitness first to get my heart rate down a bit. I am doing weights as well, but only a full body workout of 8 exercises, 2 sets for each twice a week. It's really light weight, just aiming to build reps from 10 to 15 for each exercise then move up the weight and start at 10 again.
I'm just not in the physical condition to really start pumping iron. I feel much better already though and have lost an inch off my waist and 2.5 lbs in 5 weeks which is pretty good going I think.

No, definitely not overweight. If anything a little bit too skinny. Certainly not very muscular.

Your probably skinny/fat then Miles, that means you don't weigh much. But your body fat percentage is high or higher than it should be for your weight. Or your not carrying much muscle.
Easiest way to cure this, is put on a bit of weight while doing weight training so basically bulking up. When you feel you've seen some good gains. Then do a cut thats what most people do mate.

Re: What's your bodyfat percentage?
BMI is relativly useless except in cases of pretty bad obesity to be honest.
I'm 6 foot even, 13 stone and my body fat floats between 5-9%.
I'm 'overweight'
Conversaly you could get a 6 foot 12 stone guy with poor muscle mass and he would be an ideal weight -despite probably carrying too much fat.
Useless for athletes and the elderly amongst others.

What do you mean when you say do a cut, Ice?

What do you mean when you say do a cut, Ice?
Tone up medium weight with dumbbells ETC, do more cardio, eat healthly/dieting ETC.

Ah I see. I'm afraid I'm not the most clued up when it comes to the workout lingo. I've been lifting dumbbells for a bit now, but nothing strenuous. Just that and my trusty exercise bike.
I don't think I have an ounce of fat on me, but my belly isn't the most toned of places. If I am sitting down I can feel it's a little wobbly. Must be some fat in there methinks.
I also like some of that equipment Bilbo was flashing about earlier (not that kind of equipment! :p). Pretty cool.
I'm quite serious about doing more situps along with my casual other stuff, because I could probably work at the tummy a bit. Actually, I see on wiki that the 'crunch' has become the safer option. Never knew that. You learn something everyday.

Toning up has nothing to do with the weight of the dumbbell being used. Toning up is a direct result of stripping away body-fat to bring out muscle tone. So providing the person doesn't have much body fat, muscle tone will be on show. If the person lifts heavier weights and eats and recovers properly, providing he has maintained a low body fat level, he is likely to have more muscle 'tone' than a person who has just lifted 'medium' dumbbells as he should have gained more muscle. The lower weight, higher rep myth is just that....a myth.

When i say Medium weights i mean decreasing the weight, by about 5 kilos or ETC. Just to maintain your strength. When i was toning up/losing weight, i couldn't lift as much when i was seriously working with barbells doing bench pressing and ETC.
You will obviously in my experience, not be able to keep lifting real heavyweights when your losing weight/toning. Especially when you've lost over a stone which i've done in the past. And especially since when your working with real heavyweights trying to bulk, you have to constantly over a period of a week, have to keep adding atleast 2.5/5.0 kilos each time to add strength.
The key in my experience is too slightly lower the weight, where you can atleast do 10 to 12 reps. Which is the key for toning and muscle edurance, where as if you want gain strength and put on bulk. You lift heavy weights where you can only do 6 reps.
And considering Miles isn't a seasoned lifter, medium weights doing between 10 and 12 reps would do him wonders.

Toning isn't really related to muscle endurance to be honest. Toning can be achieved through most rep ranges, as it is a direct result of having low body fat thus having visible muscle. That's why if you have low body fat i'd personally go pretty heavy, given that it's key to hypertrophy, wheras endurance training is less effective in terms of building muscle. So the muscle to fat ratio will be even greater as the heavier weights (with proper technique) should lead to greater muscle devolopment over a period of time.
I've been working with a diet plan over the last 6 weeks. I've put it together myself and it's not really anything too special but i've lost half a stone, lowered my bodyfat by 3% and increased the size of my arms and shoulders. Strength has improved aswell.
The key has been my carbohydrate consumption. It's still been fairly high considering i'm cutting. Around 300g per day, mostly consumed at breakfast and post workout.

Re: What's your bodyfat percentage?
I'm 5'10 & when I weighed in at the gym the other day, I was bang on 153lbs. Using one of those calculators, it's got me at 10% at the moment, which is probably about right as I'm pretty muscular for my weight.

Yeah. But apparently I'm also overweight ???
Those height/ measurement graphs always have me as overweight.
I don't see how when I'm more on the lanky side of slim..?

Those graphs are not very accurate and should only be used as vague estimations.. I'm the same way.. i'm around 5'7", not very tall, and weigh around 160.. I have at the most 15% body fat, probably more like 12%, but those charts would probably have me around 25%. I literally have no fat on my besides my stomach area, but i have a clear 6 pack, so it's not like i have a gut or anything. If i ran more often, maybe 3-4 times a week, i wouldn't lose more than 2-3 lbs of fat as that's really all i have on my body besides muscle.

Re: What's your bodyfat percentage?
Well this year I'm doing very well in my health goals.
I weighed in this morning first thing at just over 9st 9lb so just over 135 lbs. I weigh more after breakfast obviously but this has to be good.
My bodyfat is definitely down too but I don't know exactly what it is as my scales fluctuate.
One day I'm 16.8 then the next 17.7 then 17.1 etc. It changes by .5 during the same day as well so I'm just noting the average trend, i.e down which is good.
I reckon I must be about 17-17.5 now which is 3% down on last year when I made this thread.
135 is the lowest I've weighed illness aside since I was about 20 which isn't bad. I'm definitely a little more muscular now as I'm working with dumbells.
Ive just finished one 8 week plan and this week am about to start another. All my workouts are computer generated for me which is ideal as all I have to do is follow the schedule I'm giving. Today it's Fitness Evolved on my Kinect for 15 mins followed by 30 mins of weights.
Generally I train for 20 to 45 mins a time about 5 days a week.
I don't think it's necessary or advisable for me to work much more than that, and I've lost about 8 lbs in the last couple months so am making exactly the progress I wanted.
I'd like to put a bit of muscle on now, but I imagine I will be a slow gainer so if I can put on maybe half a stone of muscle over a year I'd be well happy.
