exactly my point, how can pac beat the #1 if he retired? pbf retired so pac bumped up one place up. now pbf vacated that spot so he is technically is not a boxer anymore.

Floyd did beat Marquez and Mosley coming out of retirement but since then, Pacquiao beat Hatton, Cotto, and Clottey. I think the two fighters are going tit-for-tat so they will remain in the same rankings until they actually fight in my book.

I said before the Mosley fight that it didn't matter how dominant Mayweather was, Pacquiao has had the better run since Floyd retired and he absolutely deserves to remain in the #1 spot. If Manny's opponents were horrible (like Donaire's opponents after Darchinyan), then I agree that Floyd can get back the P4P#1 position without fighting Manny. But given that both of them have an excellent resume in their last few fights (or overrated opponents depending on how you look at it), then in order to be THE MAN you have to beat THE MAN.
Since there is really a question as to who is the better of the two, it's up to the #2 to prove that he is better than #1 by going through him.
