OK, not an ATG by any means, but far better than his record suggests. Was a journeyman that took fights at 24 hours notice and lost a tonne of dodgy decisions. Got his break and a world title shot when one of the fighters pulled out the day before the fight. Won the title and went on to beat Colin McMillan, Paul Hodkinson and Duke McKenzie before being taken to pieces by Naz

Glen Johnson (50-13-2)

Lost a lot of dodgy decisions early on, went on to beat Harding Tarver and Jones (Not to mention Clinton Woods ;D)

Julio Caesar Chavez Jr. 41-0 record is identical to Floyd Mayweather Jr. I think we can agree the fighters are not.

Sven Ottke 34-0 Defended his title like 20 times. More than anyone in super middleweight history. Fought not even one great fighter yet was a title holder for many years. And got the close fights to sway his way. On paper he is a legend. In reality he is a B level fighter.

Freddie Thomas 0-9-2. Okay okay, this is my homeboy and nobody probably knows him on this forum. But I had to give him a shout out. ;) Just to say a little though. He is actually better than his record reflects. He is a light weight fighter who has never fought there as a pro and has fought as high as middleweight. He even fought another friend, Antwun Echols. Freddie has never trained more than a week for a pro fight and has taken all his fights on no more than 2 weeks notice because he needed the money. He has been called 12 times out of the blue as a late replacement and taken 11 of them. He had the chance to be Andre Ward's first fight at 160+ and that is the only fight he turned down.

Jose Luis Castillo (60-10-1.) To a fan 20 years from now he could be looked over as a guy who picked up a title a couple of times and ended his career with 10 losses (or more if he doesn't stay retired.) We know he was involved in one of the best action fights of the last 20 years, and that he beat Floyd Mayweather fairly clearly in their first fight!

Frankie Randall (58-18-1) made Chavez's O go!

Joel Casamayor. His record stands at a fine 37-4-1. He should be 40-2. His losses to Diego Corrales, Jose Luis Castillo and Arcelino Freitas. And his ridiculous draw to Kid Diamond should all of been wins. That brings him to 41 wins and 1 loss. 40-2 with him giving the Santa Cruz win back.

Evander Holyfield and Roy Jones if they keep going....

Sven Otke

Peter Buckley aka 'The Professor' 256-32-12 (8) Although not the best record, infact the 2nd worse in British Boxing History behind Reggie Strickland. He fought plenty of top names and got robbed so many times as he was the journeyman and not the prospect.

Glen Johnson/Carlos Baldomir - both world quality fighters who have average records due to poor management early on in their careers and the fact theyve spent their entire careers at the very highest level of this sport

sven ottke - Absoloute fraud of a fighter, quite possibly the worst unbeaten record in the history of the sport. Mainly fought C/D level opponents and when he did actually get in with half decent challengers he had to rely on hometown refs, hometown judges etc etc to get some shocking decisions. Awful fighter

I wonder if Jr. will pull one just like Sr. Lots of critics would mention Sr. was no good, only faced taxi drivers, etc. But look at all he accomplished in the ring, regardless of staying a bit too long past his prime. No wonder Sr. is a Hall of Famer. Let's not forget Jr. has no amateur experience, no golden gloves, no olympic experience, nothing nada. He got his gloves laced and straight to the pros. So its pretty much an amateur with 40 fights facing the big boys. If he didn't have the Chavez last name I can imagine maybe people would see him differently.

Why has he got no amateur experience though? Is it because they knew he would have ended up with a pretty shitty amateur record and nobody would have been interested in him turning pro because of it?

I think that's dead on. People talk about the amatuers as if they are merely a precursor to being a pro fighter, where you learn the ropes, when in reality had Jr. sought to garner any hype in the am's he would've had to face MUCH better fighters than the guy's he's been put in with so far. He just isn't a talent if you ask me, and this would have been pretty clear if he'd been competing in big tournaments against guys with real skills.
