Cotto vs Foreman
How do people see this one going this weekend?
Can't see Miguel losing this tbh. Think he is gonna be too busy and too quick for Yuri and can't see Yuri stopping him.
Bob Arum has also said that if Cotto wins, he could face Manny for the WBA Light Middleweight belt (which Miguel will have) in November. Not a fight I want to see tbh.
Cotto TKO 9/10 for me.

Official Cotto VS Foreman POLL and discussion thread!
So this weekend we have the debut of Miguel Angel Cotto in the 154 ranks. Yuri Foreman, though does not have the most impressive resume is a very talented boxer. It's been said that he has more power than his record shows...
Cotto has always been a skilled boxer and had devestating power at both 140 and 147 but can he carry what speed he had and his power up like he did when he left Jr Welter?
Can Foreman do enough in the way of boxing to keep Miguel off him and outbox Cotto?
These are questions that will be answered Saturday.
...But until then, how do you have it?
I'll take Cotto by split... Foreman is a quite decent boxer and we haven't seen Cotto at 54... I bet Cotto boxes just well enough to win a decent split.
:)

Cotto isn't any faster than Foreman. Actually, I would say the opposite. Foreman has good ring generalship. Foreman's nickname is "Yuri Boreman" for a reason. He wins rounds by moving in and out and not engaging. The only real time he deviated a little bit from this was in his last fight where he dominated Daniel Santos putting him on the mat twice. I can easily see how with a four inch height and reach advantage he could do that once again on Saturday. Cotto, though, probably is just a better boxer all around. It comes down to how much Cotto has in the tank. He's also got Emmanual Stewart training him, which could be a good thing. Shouldn't be the best fight, but in my opinion on paper, it's a pick em' fight. Cotto could knock him out and Foreman could dominate to a decision win. Either result wouldn't be surprising.

Re: Cotto vs Foreman
Depends what Cotto turns up. Not having to make 147 will help him but Foreman is a bigger guy. I think Cotto even at this point brings a hell of a lot more than Santos did though. Cotto UD.

Re: Official Cotto VS Foreman POLL and discussion thread!
The only real question in this fight is how much does Cotto have left? If he's anywhere near the fighter he used to be, he'll beat Foreman. However, he's obviously past his prime and is coming off a pretty savage beating at the hands of Pacquiao. I think Foreman will give him trouble at times, but I think Cotto's skill and experience will see him through. Cotto by close UD or MD/SD, probably a disputed one. I wouldn't be that surprised to see Foreman win though.

Yup, that's pretty much how I see it. I'd like to see Cotto lay a beaten on Foreman... Not because I dislike Foreman but when Cotto gets into a rythm and starts landing he's really fun to watch. I hope he brings his pop up with him and gets to Foreman's body. He can throw some damaging hooks to the body. Cotto will be the much smaller man but with Cotto not fighting to make weight and Foreman having a lowly KO% I see his punch resistance being where it should be. Cotto's always been able to box when he has to and do it well.

Re: Official Cotto VS Foreman POLL and discussion thread!
Foreman has G-d in his corner. He survived the Russians, a boxing gym full of Palestinians, and an many pages of Talmud study. Cotto will be smote by Yuri's hand!

Re: Official Cotto VS Foreman POLL and discussion thread!
as much as i'm a huge fan of miguel cotto, it pains me to say that i think he isn't the same fighter before the margarito fight and i think he gets beat by yuri foreman pretty handily this coming saturday night. yuri foreman is an exceptional boxer and he's going to have a huge height, reach and speed advantage over cotto. the only way cotto can win imo, is by knockout and even then, it's going to be interesting if he can bring his power up to jr. middleweight. while i think the judges are going to make this a closer than it looks fight, i think foreman wins this one handily!
-
Re: Official Cotto VS Foreman POLL and discussion thread!
Cotto looks lean and mean and Foreman is not a big puncher so Cotto wins by decision.
-
Re: Official Cotto VS Foreman POLL and discussion thread!
Foreman isn't the most exciting guy but he is a very good effective boxer. I also agree he has more power than his record suggests, but he's pretty conservative and would rather just win rounds. I think he wins this by a rather comfortable UD.

Re: Official Cotto VS Foreman POLL and discussion thread!
I think Foreman will win, most likely by a close unanimous or split decision, but I've gone for the Foreman KO option because no one else will and if he does I can act like I'm some kind of boxing guru seeing things the rest of you don't. Which mark my words I will do ;D

In fact I think it does if you're betting. You're not actually going to bet me that that beast of a puncher ;D even at jr middle is going to KO Cotto, are you?

Nah, I'll go that he wins, but how about this? 1 week if either guy wins, 2 weeks if its a KO win. The odds are much better for you ;D:-\

Re: Official Cotto VS Foreman POLL and discussion thread!
It seems like only five minutes ago that people were thinking cotto would beat floyd now there are those that are actually picking foreman to beat him......man how things change. Anyway since there are some cool cotto fans here on this board i'm picking him, or at least throwing what little good luck his way i guess. I really don't see how steward can make the guy any better but i do see how foreman can bicycle and frustrate cotto. I just don't know how good foreman really is, i mean santos and cotto are on two different levels. I'd hate to see another dimitry salita type ass whoopin. At the very least i hope it lasts a bit.
-
Re: Official Cotto VS Foreman POLL and discussion thread!
I see a complete beating for Foreman. I've seen Foreman in the past and I was not impressed. Yes he can box but if the old Cotto shows up who bangs the hell out of the body. My guess is Yuri will be a stationary target about the fifth or sixth round. Yuri doesn't have too much pop so it is not likely he will keep Cotto off of him with anything serious. I'd say Cotto by an easy KO in about nine.
-
Re: Official Cotto VS Foreman POLL and discussion thread!
I just want Cotto to break him down just to see the old Cotto. I think he's still got gas in the tank to do it.

Agreed then we can see Cotto v Pac 2 :)
-
Re: Official Cotto VS Foreman POLL and discussion thread!
I see Cotto beating Foreman relatively easy.
Foreman has a size advantage and the better footwork but Cotto has the advantage in every other catergory imo.
I see Cotto pressing the action, controlling the pace behind his superior jab, and i see him catching Foreman with shots when he does attack coming in.
Cotto by decision or late stoppage.

Re: Official Cotto VS Foreman POLL and discussion thread!
Ah, I didn't notice that the thread had been cut. In that case I think both fighters are extremely lovely, but I hope that lovely Cotto edges it because he is even nicer.

Re: Official Cotto VS Foreman POLL and discussion thread!
I think Foreman's reach and footspeed win the day for him. Cotto is going to have a hard time getting to that body at all. I like Cotto and I think he is one of generation's best boxer/punchers, but all of these tough fights have come at a cost to him, Foreman's handspeed will undoubtedly open some cuts in bad places. If at any point Cotto has to retreat and start dancing on the ropes he's done.
I fully admit Cotto could catch Foreman and put a whoopin on him, playing it out in my head though I see Foreman boxing circles around him. Cotto will probably have the judges favor which is why I went with SD. I think it will be a pretty clear 116-112, 117-111 card for Foreman in reality.

Anyone know what time the weigh-in is?

Good call Sheep, but Cotto could knock Foreman the f-ck out though as you said. I could see that happening too. Also, Foreman bounces around a lot, which can be timed.
The crowd probably will be very pro-Cotto because the fight is happening on the eve of the Puerto Rican day parade in NYC. Fat Joe has ringside seats! Cotto has fought on many big stages. Foreman hasn't. Did you know Foreman was a pretty decorated amateur in NY? Here he is losing to Luis Collazo in the Golden Gloves in 2000 or something:

It seems like Foreman is well-liked by boxers or at least Edison Miranda:

Re: Official Cotto VS Foreman POLL and discussion thread!
I actually reckon he'll be cannon fodder for Cotto. He does it every year. Urkal, Gomez, Jennings and now Foreman. Don't get me wrong, Foreman is better then those 3, but i can't see him really troubling Cotto. I think Cotto either wins a UD or takes him out late on.
-
Re: Official Cotto VS Foreman POLL and discussion thread!
Maybe I'm high....or maybe I need to be but I see Foreman winning dec or even a late round tko on a cut up and out hustled Cotto.Think its a tale of career momentum in opposite directions as well as size, speed and styles.Cotto will have to pursue and focus on body.Hello head and his jab will fall short.Think as it goes he'll be one step behind a constant flowing and shifting Foreman...he needs to draw Foremen into exchanges,...yeah right.Cannot see this Cotto outboxing Foreman.Foreman doesn't mind stinking out the crowd and is a very solid boxer with sharp speed and is pretty cunning despite age...his straight shots are deceptive.I actually see Cotto cut early,as much by hands as by a Foreman head butt.Get this man a helmut.
-
Re: Official Cotto VS Foreman POLL and discussion thread!
Me thinks Cotto will win by stoppage. He's the better fighter. Too much is being made of Cotto's past defeats. The fight with Manny was very competitive until he got caught in the 4th round. Yuri's a good fighter, but he ain't Manny. Not even close.
-
Re: Official Cotto VS Foreman POLL and discussion thread!
I actually have tickets to this one. After a "boxing" tournament in my own neighborhood, with a bunch of talentless amateurs throwing hay-maker's, and not knowing what a job or body punch is, this will be a big relief. Although I vowed never to enter the new Stadium, I got a really price on tickets, and I just couldn't resist.
This is a huge step-up for Foreman, but I haven't watched many of his bouts. With that said, I'm just leaning towards Cotto: I like him, he works his arse off, and has proven to be a top caliber fighter.
Foreman: like I said, I don't know too much about him. I've seen some bouts on youtube. He seems crafty, but lacks any puncher power. He's shown to be a good defensive fighter, though. Can't believe Bob Arum compared him to Ali! Must be an ethnic thing, as they are both Jewish. Foreman is a respectable guy, and he's also good for the sport of the boxing.
That said, I'm hoping for a good competitive fight!
-
Re: Official Cotto VS Foreman POLL and discussion thread!
Cotto has this in the bag imo.
Foreman I think is being overrated. He's definitely a good lateral mover for sure but the only reason he does that is because he isn't consistent with his punches for 12 rounds. He's like a slower yet more technically sound Sergio Martinez, only thing is he's not as flashy either and Cotto is going to put the pressure on him for 3 minutes of every round. If he can move forward behind the jab, show he still has quick feet and can instinctively cut off the ring, Foreman is inviting to combinations and trading. It's a better style matchup then some might think. When they exchange, Cotto's shots will be louder and carry more force then Foreman's.
Cotto isn't done, this whole not making 147 thing will be good for him.
-
Re: Official Cotto VS Foreman POLL and discussion thread!
You have to go with Cotto here, unless his legs are shot and he's totally done. Foreman can't hit, and we don't know if he can take a punch since he's been fed a lot of D to C+ fighters.
Could be an interesting and short fight if Cotto has the legs to catch up with him. He should be able to walk through his punches, so my gut feel is a 4th round stoppage of the Israeli.
-
Re: Official Cotto VS Foreman POLL and discussion thread!
Stuck money on a Cotto win between rounds 7-9 and 10-12. £10 on each.
-
Re: Official Cotto VS Foreman POLL and discussion thread!
I think Cotto will wear down Yuri....I like both fighters, but Miguel is tough, he's strong, and I don't think Miguel is that far gone or Yuri has the skill set to really capitalize on Miguel's faults
-
Re: Official Cotto VS Foreman POLL and discussion thread!
This is actually a really good fight, at least good enough to have this topic stickied.................
Any mods around? Bueller, Bueller........................
-
Re: Official Cotto VS Foreman POLL and discussion thread!
Cotto by stoppage.
Miguel Cotto is the better fighter in every aspect.
Foreman won't be able to keep him off of him.
-
Re: Official Cotto VS Foreman POLL and discussion thread!
theres to many ifs and buts in this fight for me to pick a winner.
like how will the step up in weight effect cotto ?
what does cotto have left after a series of tough fights ?
what has steward done for cotto ?
these questions will be answered once the bell rings. if cotto still has some form i expect him to come thru with a descision win, but i think foreman gives him real problems(style wise) on the way. who nos.
job biscuit (do u like fishdicks ? kanye west does)
