Chad Dawson vs Jean Pascal My Thoughts.
From reading all the posts, i was expecting a more one sided fight. But it actually wasn't, i think Chad Dawson technically looked the better fighter, and he did land more punches. Its just he wasn't active enough strangely, even when he had Jean Pascal hurt he didn't try and follow up.
Jean Pascal was good with the straight right hand, he did buzz Chad Dawson a few times. But he didn't actually land as many punches as people think. Although it was a good tactic jumping in and pushing Chad Dawson back, to steal rounds.
I think some of Chad Dawson's work was forgotten, because of Jean Pascal's exciting flurries. But scoring wise i thought it was quite close, and in a rematch i think Chad Dawson would win he just needs to up the pace.

Since judges don't have punch counters in front of them, and the crowd exploded everytime Pascal threw a power shot, there is no way Dawson was getting a decision. This fight should have been much more simple for a pure boxer, Pascal couldn't counter so as long as Dawson kept punching and didn't let Pascal reset he had nothing to worry about. But he did neither of those things, he would land a good jab and back out, throw a 6 shot combo and then back out. He LET Pascal take this fight from him. Pascal looked great for the first three rounds, but after that Dawson was starting to loosen up and showed exactly how easily he could dominate when he chose to. He chose not too, his corner was pleading with him to press and he just didn't until the 11th when the headbutt happened.

Dawson never seemed to take charge like he could have, in a way I thought from the 5th round on Dawson played with Pascal. I know Dawson got caught a couple of times but it seemed that he was clearly landing at will, when he threw. In the 11th it seemed that Dawson had enough and went for the KO which in my mind was clearly coming, the head butt was unfortunate...After the fight I thought of something that Cus D'Amato used to say "Never carry a fighter, take him out as soon as you can because if you try to carry him they might be carrying you out." I think Chad Dawson was taking it too easy and paid a price by letting the pts put him into a situation where he had to take chances....

My thoughts on this fight are .... Well I have none. Dawson did exactley what I thought he would which is not much of anything. Pascal landed the better looking punches and the crowd got behind that. Dawson did alot of pawing,and getting hit by some stupid shit. The eleventh round has been the point I have been trying to get across about Dawson for many years. Very unexciting,and shows no balls. He had his man out on his feet and all he had to do was land another punch and the fight would have ended. Pascal looked like he had blacked out for a minute and what did Dawson do move in and CLINCH ???.

What I saw in the fight was a fighter with a great boxing toolset who got flustered by movement and angles. He was also affected by his opponents speed.
We can sit back and all blame Dawson for what he would not do, but the blame should go to Pascal. He fought a fight which kept Dawson guessing, hesitant and took him right out of his comfort zone.
The only time Dawson saw real success was when Pascal got gassed. Even then Pascal still seemed to have been more preserving energy and riding out getting stunned. He started getting back into his groove right before the headbutt.
Dawson tried attacking in the 8th round and almost got knocked down for his effort. All I am saying is it may not be about what he did wrong, but may have everything to do with what Pascal did right.

are you kidding me? the only reason Pascal had success was his speed and great footwork, Froch has neither, Dawson would make Carl "the crotch" Froch look like the moron he truly is especially if he goes in with his hands down, I'd pick Dawson over Pascal in a rematch and it'd probably end by TKO, and i'd pick Pascal to beat Froch in a rematch and he'd probably do it by KO as well

Dawson lost to someone who lost to Froch. Hes been found out;D Id take Froch and Kessler over Dawson, they are too aggressive for him and both have better power than Pascal and better chins and can fight whole rounds. Dawson doesnt like to fight and likes to box at a nice comfortable pace. What Pascal showed was anyone who takes the fight to him that isnt old has a chance of making him go in to a shell.
That burst in the 11th, looked good but you could see imediately after that, Dawson had blown himself out! He would have had nothing for the final round, whereas Pascal would have had another couple of round winning bursts in him.
None of the super 6 fighters would have any qualm about fighting him now and Calzaghe will smirk as he thinks about how easily he beat Kessler who beat Froch who beat Pascal who beat Dawson;D Oh, he would have had the same smirk when Hopkins piissed all over Pavlik!

Sorry esse, but I totally disagree. That burst in the 11th was the best burst from either fighter for the entire fight. And I think had the cut not have happened, Pascal was going down in that round. And how do you know after being solidly hurt in the 11th round, Pascal would have found it in him to fight strongly through the 12th? It's more likely the tide was turning. Either way, there is no way to know.
Froch had a lot of trouble with Dirrell who isn't as good as Dawson and not as big and not as fast as Dawson. It's a styles thing. Froch will have trouble with faster boxers (e.g. Calzaghe would eat him up). Kessler/Dawson is a better fight. I'll give you that although I wasn't super impressed with Kessler's performance against Froch. Given that he was the champion, I actually thought Froch did enough to win or close to it.

How the f*ck do you explain Pascal outworking and hurting Dawson but not being capable of the same against Froch?
Dont forget, both were at exactly the same point in their careers, neither had fought a top ten super middle yet, so you cant just say that Pascal has improved because Froch has fought the better opponents since.
I think what has happened with Dawson is he has been over rated a bit, hes fought some older fighters who arent as fast or powerfull as Pascal, and all of a sudden he has to fight at a pace and is getting caught and hurt. This intimidated him and made him reluctant to engage.
Dawson was finished after that last burst of his in the 11th, physically and mentally. He knew he wasnt really hurting Pascal and that hed just drained himself trying. I dont think he would have been capable of another sustained effort like that in the last. Pascal was fine and fighting back when Dawson was pulled out. At no point in the fight was Pascal made to flop around and litterally jump off the floor to grab on for dear life like he made Dawson.
I think pascal goes in to a rematch much more confident and puts it on Dawson even more and Dawson STILL fights with no heart.

Pascal isn't even really the same fighter he was when he fought Froch, that was in 2008, he's gone up in weight and as it's been mentioned seemed to work on his footwork, i've said it time and time again, this fight is more a case of Dawson not doing enough and Pascal taking advantage of it rather than Pascal doing too much and Dawson not being able to deal with it, if Dawson actually takes the initiative next time out, he KO's Pascal

I agree that Pascal has improved and with this fight he will improve further but Dawson has fought alot of quality opponents and I reckon he has plataued as far as his boxing career is concerned.
Froch has also improved though, I believe they are both still on the same level.

another example of Dawson showing up and putting up a half ass effort, he schooled Johnson in the rematch, and IMO he'll spark Pascal easily in a rematch
as for Froch improving, where the hell do you see that? his defense is as weak as ever, he's just as flat footed, keeps his hands down at his waist, and is too damn slow for him to be doing it, Dawson and Froch are leagues apart, and Pascal is somewhere in between

Carl Froch has improved, thats why he lost convincingly in his last two fights. I mean seriously what the hell :confused:

I missed all the recent fights, but this one kind of surprised me. I thought Dawson was a little better than that, but I guess he has only been fighting old men recently.
Good on Pascal getting the win though and I wouldn't be surprised to see him do the same again next time either. Dawson really doesn't like to get hit at all. Pascal seems to have got better too mind, so it's not all about Dawson being a bit pants.
