Haye-Ruiz hitting behind the head?
I don't know how Haye didn't have points taken away, let alone cautioned for the times he hit Ruiz behind the head, let alone getting it scored as knockdowns multiple times. They were such blatant examples of hitting behind the head it seemed ridiculous that he was allowed to do something so dangerous, it reminded me of Peter against Klitschko the first time, I honestly don't think Peter would have been able to catch Klitschko without those illegal blows. I am not sure if its something to do with being a prospect, but I cringe when I think about what these type of punches from guys who hit like this could do to a guy. I mean back when it was less regulated a lot of guys lost their lives and where severely compromised for their entire lives as result of blows to the base of the skull.

Re: Haye-Ruiz hitting behind the head?
I don't understand the thread....
I mean i get the point, but why now, nearly 6 months after the fight? ;D
-
Re: Haye-Ruiz hitting behind the head?
the thread should be called
"I hate david haye because"
do you understand now?
-
Re: Haye-Ruiz hitting behind the head?
I usually turn a blind eye to shots behind the head the moment the other fighter turns his head away from the fight.
Although with that being said, the 1st shot Haye landed was naughty. Simply for the reason that Ruiz was already on his knees :-\
But yeah whatever, the fight was yonks ago. This is defo a hate thread. Fact.

Gotcha. ;D

Well it happened, I reckon no one paid much attention to it because they we glad to be rid of Ruiz. I don't fault the WBA title holder for doing it, I see it as its more acceptable to rough house in England, its just the way matches are called and its Ruiz's fault for not knowing about it.

Why so touchy HF? I didn't say 1 bad thing about anybody.
I have just observed that refs in England allow the guys to fight a bit more...hence lots of the Brits hating on a very intrusive ref like Joe Cortez. That's all I was saying.
-
Re: Haye-Ruiz hitting behind the head?
I don't hate Haye at all, I just was wondering why the ref allowed it to happen not why Haye was punching for the back of the head which he shouldn't. I like Peter to, but he did the same think to Klitschko. I like Gamboa and I think he should have been disqualified. THe Klitschko-Peter fight and the Gamboa fight reminded me of the Haye-Ruiz fight, its not like it's the first time a fight from the past has been brought up.
If I were to hate on Haye it would be simply because he ducking Wladimir Klitschko despite constantly calling him out, but I'm not.

hmmmmmmmmmmmm
boxing is a rough sport bud, these things happen

Yes boxing is a rough sport, but rabbit punches are illegal for a reason.
-
I didn't see anything wrong, although I did have my Union Jack specs on again and they have a habit of obscuring selective parts of fights. ;)
It's the refs job to stop it, not the fighters.

I only partially agree with that. It is the ref's job to stop it, but it's also the fighter's jobs to contest within the rules of the sport. Now we all know that rarely happens, but shots to the back of the head are illegal for a reason! Knowingly punching to the back of the head in a continuous fashion is tantamount to loading up your gloves before the fight. It is an intentional attempt to cause harm outside of that allowed by the rules of the sport.

No, but he should have been given a hard warning and if he repeated the act points would be deducted and eventually he would face disqualification. But whatever, it doesn't matter now.

Re: Haye-Ruiz hitting behind the head?
I wasn't even bringing this up to criticize Haye in particular as much as home town reffing or the considered favorite benefitting from ridiculous situations. It's like I've heard from plenty of people that Roy Jones never was weighing in at 154 early in his career, but that they had rigged weigh-in scales early on in his career with numerous opponents saying they weighed 154 on the dot only to weigh-in at 148.
-
Re: Haye-Ruiz hitting behind the head?
148!?! :o
Who? The opponent, or Roy himself?

I would imagine he means the opponent.

''plenty of people that Roy Jones never was weighing in at 154 early in his career''
So what does that mean? He was weighing less, more?
Sorry, I just really wanna know :)
-
It would mean that RJJ was heavy and his opponents were spot on 154 but the scale showed them as lighter.
I checked Boxrec and saw nothing to support those allegations though

I doubt it's true. Roys early opponents weren't very good to be honest. In fact I have all his fights on DVD and most of his early ones are shot through camcorders and never even made TV. Also Roy liked to take challenges on and fight bigger opponents than himself. To me he was quite small for a LHW so to move up to HW and fight someone who is way bigger naturally is not the act of someone who would partake in these allegations.

Re: Haye-Ruiz hitting behind the head?
Agreed 100%. Whats even more sickening is the British announce team from the video I watched of it, saying that John was making it up.

Haye admits he was getting cheap shots in due to the occasion getting the better of him, BUT, Ruiz did turn his back on Haye a few times and whats the last thing the ref tells you??

...someone turning their head trying to roll with the punches but not doing it properly (eg Peter-Wlad I ) isn't a "foul" per say, but the ref should have addressed it warn both sides about what their doing. Also turning your head isn't an invite for your opponent to wail on the back of your head.

Yeah but I'm of the opinion that if someone does that, then they are illegally avoiding the punch jusy as much as the guy who is illegally throwing the punch. So either way, to me it's like an inevitable occurrence.
Basically what I mean is, If the guy is gonna turn his back, he's likely to get hit on the back of the head.

Exactly!!
Haye shouldn't have done it, but most fights have illegal activities going on in them, it's just Haye gets under peoples skin and they like to go on about him.
Last night, I think it was Cleverly was holding the back of Murats head whilst punching him in the face (dirty boxing in MMA). Last week Peter purposely hit Wlad after the bell and nothing gets mentioned. Haye hit someone in the back of the head nearly 6 months ago and people are still waffling on about it. He admitted he was wrong to do it after the fight!
-
Re: Haye-Ruiz hitting behind the head?
Yes but if that happens the ref should still warn BOTH fighters for the healthy and safety of both fighters.
Although when you watch the fight you see Chicken Little blast Ruiz like 3-4 times as Ruiz is bending over to avoid the punches and those are illegal and he should have been penalized

He was deducted a point in the first round for that. If i'm thinking about the right time when Ruiz bends over the ropes and thats the only thing keeping him up so the knockdown was called and Haye was deducted a point for hitting to the back of the head!
