Sorry, but last night Maccaranelli vs Frenkel Ref / SPOILER**
Man, I thought the decision to allow Enzo to continue last night was horrifying while I was there live. I actually found myself shout no when the ref let him continue. Now I have seen it replayed on youtube, it has to be one of the worst refing decisions I have ever seen. It was simply outrageous. I had a decent seat , and even from where I was I could see that enzo was done. He didn't look at the ref and also didn't make any attempt to lift his arms never mind his hands.
Whats everyone elses thoughts........

Was very bad mate, Imagine it was Frenkel in the same situation he would of been waved off before the count had started, Warren card means Warren rules it seems, stupid decision Enzo could of been badly hurt there.
Watching that made me think back to that fat lump of lard Terry O Conner, when he waved off the Manfredo/Calzaghe fight in ridiculous circumstances but then year or so later let Khan carry on v Prescott after loooking like he had 20 double Brandys.
Always the same when it's the home fighter involved.

Should never be allowed to ref again. Terrible. The second shot could literally have killed him. It's very dangerous to take a shot like that when suffering a concussion. I hope Enzo is ok.

Shocking decision to let him carry on.Only one out come aftern that ,that was Enzo taking more punishment till he was ko'ed.

Looking at the video now he couldn't even lift his arms to throw a punch, very bad ref.

Was leathal!
One of the KO's of 2010. The second was brutal.
Enzo's corner should have not let him get back up.

Re: Sorry, but last night Maccaranelli vs Frenkel Ref / SPOILER**
Yeah it was terrible reffing. Enzo was clearly gone and he really didnt need to last 2 brutal haymakers.

Thats another thingI thought about. No way on earth he should havebeen allowed to continue, by no-one. His corner are guilty too, although not as guilty as the ref. His license to referee should be revoked no danger..... Thought I was being over critical at the time, as I was horrified. But a just opinion in this case. Saying he could have been killed is a cert also. I was very worried for him when he went the way he did and was glad to see him get up, although he still couldn't walk afetr however many minutes it was. The way he slumped onto the stool after they carried him over there, he was still well out of it.

Re: Sorry, but last night Maccaranelli vs Frenkel Ref / SPOILER**
Even from the cheap seats we could see that Enzo was not in a state to continue, if you come back after a knockdown with your hands at waist height and staggering, it has to be stopped.
Hope he hasn't taken any lasting damage, he has had quite a few savage KO's now.

it was bad but not terrible, the outcome of course was horrific and could of been tragic on another night
i would say the peter stoppage was far more damning on the refs side than this one

Re: Sorry, but last night Maccaranelli vs Frenkel Ref / SPOILER**
I was in upper 9 and nearly missed the first ko as I was watching the trouble in the crowd but turned round to see him knocked down for the first time and was amazed he got up. Was stood up and when he got knocked down again, was literally speechless. Hands on my head. Absolutely disgraceful decision to let him carry on - his corner needs to take some of the blame as well in my opinion. It is down to his corner to protect him - I'd have thrown the towel in after that. He could have been killed. Was quite uncomfortable seeing the replays to be honest - Enzo is a top bloke and you would hate to see anyone knocked out like that - especially when it could've been avoided.

Re: Sorry, but last night Maccaranelli vs Frenkel Ref / SPOILER**
It was a brutal, sickening KO.
The ref should have stopped it. Though the corner should have realised an acted and thrown the towel in after Enzo got up so shakily.
That last left hook I thought was gonna take off Enzo's head.

Re: Sorry, but last night Maccaranelli vs Frenkel Ref / SPOILER**
I thought Erkki Meronen did a pretty good job in the fight. Outstanding actually. He let the fighters fight on the inside. And I can't recall him really breaking than up when he shouldn't of. He was pretty much unnoticeable through out the fight. Which is the way a ref should be. Sure Maccrapanelli got knocked the fuck out in great fashion. But I don't see why the ref should be bad mouthed. Enzo was winning the fight up to that point. He's regarded as a heavy puncher. So the chance of a hail mary punch was there. He was hurt. No doubt. But he beat the count. He got up. Fighters being badly hurt before and coming back to win has happened.

One of the main purposes of having the third man in that ring is to protect the fighters when they don't know well enough to protect themselves. He came up from that count not looking stable, and with his hands down the ref shouldn't have let him walk into a execution like that. There's letting a fighter have a chance, and there's letting him get hurt, that was an example of the second.

He continued from that? That's one of the craziest knockdowns I've ever seen...

I saw Larry Holmes not once but twice get up from brutal knock downs to win. Against Shavers and Snipes. The Shavers one looked to have render him unconscious before he even hit the floor. Yet he still got up and won. Granted Enzo is more Katie Holmes than Larry Holmes. But the point stands.

I reckon Katie Holmes has a better chin than Enzo, but seriously a ref has to know when a fighter isn't in shape to continue. If Larry Holmes was looking that bad, and unable to protect himself, then the ref should have stopped those too.

No mate that was the finisher that he got up form one just before that which was nearly as brutal.

Seems like the ref is damn if he stops it. And damn if he doesn't. The ref stops that Enzo fight and I guarantee you Enzo complains of a bad stoppage. Lennox Lewis to this day thinks his fight with McCall was stopped early. Despite him stumbling around with damn near the whole round left to go. Does anybody really think Lewis would of survived that round? I don't. But he wanted the chance.
