Featherfisted or average powered boxer who kayoed a KO artist

Re: Featherfisted or average powered boxer who kayoed a KO artist
Not really feather fisted, but Mayweather ko'ed Corrales when if anything people were expecting the opposite, also he ko'ed the heavier hitting Gatti.
I'm sure Michael Nunn did it I just can't remember the name of the guy.

Re: Featherfisted or average powered boxer who kayoed a KO artist
Ottke vs Mundine...well Mundine is not really a KO artist, buton the other hand Ottke was extremely featherfisted...

Re: Featherfisted or average powered boxer who kayoed a KO artist
Evander Holyfield's KO of Mike Tyson was quite surprising but Tyson did step into the punch.
It's a difficult one really because on a lot of these occasions like when David Haye got stopped by Carl Thompson the (KO masters), had punched themselves out or had been out witted.
You could almost add some of Muhammad Ali's victories to the list.
But a genuine unexpected KO by a soft punching fighter against an opponent who was not tired or mentally destroyed I am struggling to think of one.

Until I saw the state of Oscar at the weigh in, I never expected Pac to KO him.
I think we can all agree Audley over Sprott was a feather fister get getting a KO

Re: Featherfisted or average powered boxer who kayoed a KO artist
He may not of been a artist but light touching Calvin Groves KO of Jeff Fenech was one of the nastiest Ive seen. Mayweather v Corrales ?
What about Tex Cobb over Ernie shavers

There's a difference between feather-fisted power and moderate power. Phillips had moderate power. But that KO of Jackson should be disregarded. Jackson was done by than

Phillips had a couple of things....a sturdy chin and a solid harsh right hand. Kostya slept....Vince woke him up.

Re: Featherfisted or average powered boxer who kayoed a KO artist
not exactly but Diaz over Freitas

Re: Featherfisted or average powered boxer who kayoed a KO artist
Alfredo Layne vs Wilfredo Gomez
Juan Nazario vs Edwin Rosario
This is actually very tough, because most of the fighters i can think of. Even if there KO record isn't fantastic, they still had a fair dig.

Re: Featherfisted or average powered boxer who kayoed a KO artist
Mayweather has never been featherfisted and certainly wasn't at superfeather - probably had around an 80% KO rate.

Agreed Floyd Mayweather Jr was considered, a puncher at Super Featherweight. When he sits down on his shots, opponents always say he hits alot harder than you expect. Just like Pernell Whitaker when he sat down on his shots, was quite a hard puncher aswell amazingly.

exactly, both guys give up a bit of their power so that they can commit more to speed and their defense, it's clear in the Mosley fight that Floyd was landing pretty damn hard shots and that Mosley was feeling the full effect of them

I dont know guys. Featherfisted? Of course not. He's exceptionaly accurate and a sharp shooter but Ive never seen anything above average power from him. He's a pretty puncher...not a big one really. At Spr feather, early on he wasnt exactly flattening a whos who.
If a guy chooses to ease off in order to shine longer,or just not press ko....Marquez,Vargas,Baldo ? and not punch thru a target in order to utilize speed, defense thats on him. Hurt hands,I know. Doing it is one thing, having opponents say it is another?

thing is i compare Mayweather to Jones (at lightheavy onwards) in that he was happy just getting the win, both completely dominate their opponents for at minimum 10 rounds of the 12, and are at points on the verge of stopping the guy, then they just seem to ease up, to me Jones/Trinidad and Mayweather/Marquez seemed a lot alike in the fact that both guys could have gotten the stoppage, yet they CHOSE to ease up and go the distance

The title of the thread says featherfisted OR average power. I consider Verno to have had average power.
Thats why I mentioned it.
And yes Jackson was old for sure.

I am his biggest fan but would never say he was a big puncher, he was name bomber but really did not have bombs at middleweight, he started at light middle. The accumulation of his punches and awkwardness resulted in his stoppages but at the highest level he was not a puncher.

Watson v Benn

I'd consider Michael Watson to be a good puncher, nothing special but certainly better than average. The first man to really hurt Chris Eubank and put him down legitmately, aswell as Ko'ing Nigel Benn with a single solid jab.
He also had some decent domestic stoppage wins, against fighters like Errol Christie.
