Bradley - Alexander Fight Thread
I am so glad that this match up is taking place. Its great to see the 140 weight class getting good fight again as the weight class hasnt been at its greatest since Tszyu left, Cotto, Hatton and Mayweather all moved up. We now have some elite fighters in this weight class and this match up is surely going to be one of the biggest in the world in 2011.
Both fighters have a lot on the line with this match up and they know this. heres a link with fightnews on how they are feeling towards the fight: Boxing - Fighting For History. as a boxing fan i can say im really excited to see this fight and believe it will be very close. As to how I think the fight will go I am favouring Bradley. I think he has the greater ability to adapt to difficult situations and change the fight if its not going his way. I think Alexander struggled a bit with what should of been a routine performance against Andrey Kotelnik. I know a lot of people on here thought i was a bad choice of fight but Kotelnik is an ex champion and will push any fighter. Although Alexander got the nod I think in comparison to Bradley at this stage of his career he hasnt matured to the levels Bradley has reached. This is why im picking Bradley to win either a close UD or SD. Im going with Bradley in the fight though. whats your picks?
-
Re: Bradley - Alexander who have you got ?
I personally think they are both limited but should be a good fight, like Bradley to take control in the second half of the fight and win a clear decision.
-
Re: Bradley - Alexander who have you got ?
Bradley will win a clear decision. He's much more durable, I just see Alexander surviving, but clearly losing.
-
Re: Bradley - Alexander who have you got ?
I think it will be close early on, but Bradley will adjust and be in the better condition down the stretch. He will show why he is the best fighter at 140.
-
Re: Bradley - Alexander who have you got ?
I was in on the press confrence today and I was suprised that after all the mud slinging back and forth they both showed real respect towards one another but Bradley seemed to be more confident....When both fighters were asked how they felt the fight would go believe it or not Bradley was pretty much under the assumption most everyone here is...It will be close in the early rounds as they felt each other out and he will take over as the fight progresses....Alexander said he thinks he will stop Bradley.....I think in the early rounds it will be close with Alexander having a slight edge but Bradley will come on strong as the fight progresses and that will really play on Alexander who in the Kotelnik fight seemed very discoursged later on....
I noticed something funny about Devon though the more he talked the more it seemed obvious...I think he is already suffering the effects of too many punches to the head...Maybe from his amateur days? He slurred his words a lot...Anyone else ever notice that about him?

Yeah I noticed that in a few post fight interviews.
I hope Bradley wins but got a funny feeling Devon might stop him.

Re: Bradley - Alexander who have you got ?
i said right from the get go when this fight was made that devon alexander has the ability to box any guy at 140s head off
just strikes me as the kind of guy that rises to the occasion, i can see him taking a points win and possibly even flooring bradley mid fight

I'd be stunned if he took a decision on points. My feeling is either Devon stops him or Bradley decisions him. No way do I see him outboxing Bradley.

Re: Bradley - Alexander who have you got ?
I've been an undercover Bradley fan since the Witter fight so I have that feeling that this is a HUGE fight for Bradley. I just hope Bradley see's it that way. He can't go into this fight underestimating Alexander. Kotelnik fought a smart fight, Bradley has to do the same. If Bradley gets too rugged, he'll get picked apart and maybe really hurt.
Bradley really has to be shrewd and keep his head for 12 full rounds. He's the smarter guy but Devon has the tools so Bradley has just GOT to be smart.
I think he will be... From the footage I've seen, he seems very focused so I'm predicting that Bradley takes a few rounds to work things out and then cutesy-brawls he's way to a clear UD.
The thing that worries me most is Bradley admitted that Peterson gave him hell to the body. (I hate it when Fighters divulge highly sensitive info). So I'll be looking for Devon (If he/his team are smart) to work towards the body.

Feel the exact same way.

Re: Bradley - Alexander who have you got ?
I seem to agree with the majority here. Alexander does have the skillset early to give Bradley lots of trouble. I think it's Bradley's will and determination that will pull him through this fight. I can only think when Kendall Holt just about knocked his head 180 degrees around and Bradley getting up to take a clear cut desicion. He will walk through some hell but will a desicion.

Do you think that Bradley admitting that is part of his game plan? In order for Alexander to get to Bradley's body, he have to get close. Alexander key factor is his jab. He's a little longer then Bradley. With his power coming at the end of his punches. Especially on a 1-2 combo. Kinda like Holt;). And not to mention, Bradley has been putting a lot of work on body punches himself. Just a thought.

Re: Bradley - Alexander who have you got ?
The cards and the stars just don't seems to line up right in boxing anymore. Bradley vs Pacman could be a good fight. But soemthing is telling me, that's not going to happen. Bradley, IMO, is who the sport needs to win. But, I've always been on the underdog side. And Alexander is skilled enough to get the job done.

Na, Bradley admitted really having to tough it out after some body work from Lamont Peterson right after their fight over a year ago. So it's definitely not a ploy of any kind.
-
Re: Bradley - Alexander who have you got ?
Actually scrap that... Apprarently Lamont Peterson hurt Floyd Mayweather to the body before his fight with Marquez so, relatviely speaking, it's a moot point  ;D
-
Re: Bradley - Alexander who have you got ?
I think and hope Bradley wins. He has beaten a lot of good under rated fighters and still not had the recognition he deserves. Hope he wins and it should be a points decision.
-
Re: Bradley - Alexander who have you got ?
I just read if Bradley wins WBC belt becomes vacant, why is this?
-
Re: Bradley - Alexander who have you got ?
Did everyone overhype the iron twin ko win or did we put to much into his (cough cough) win over kotelnik and should just say hey everyone has a bad night at least he won. Either way i see bradley "accidently headbutting and beating alexander for most of the rounds. Bradley is going to def get caught a couple of times but he'll be busy for every other moment of the fight. Just my guess.

Probably because he fighting for other titles and you know what the WBC are like. They need to be told daily that they are the best or they throw a paddy. This fight is bigger than their crappy belt anyway. The winner is the recognised number 1 at the weight.
Ive got Bradley in a close points decision. I do rate Devon but it maybe coming abit too soon in his career. Dont think he is ready yet. Bradley was on the scene abit sooner than him and is probably at his peak now. Hope its a good fight and expect it will be cuz neither will want to lose their zero.

Yeah something about bradley having "disrespected" the wbc or something and hence budy salaiman has his panties all in a knot. Have to agree with the majority here I think bradley takes this, devon was to me already beaten by kotelnik and he should have been much easier to figure out for devon than bradley will be.

I have to disagree...I don't think Bradley has hit his peak yet...He thus far has just been getting better each time out...He also seems to find the best challenges available for him....Though you never can tell when a fighter peaks just as they are getting better the flatten out

When Alexander fought Urango, Urango had a string of tough fights.. Getting hit a lot. Not to sure how that KO came. Was it really Alexander's power or Urango string of rough fights?

Was a weird one really, as Urango survived fights with Berto and Bailey who for me are much bigger punchers than Alexander, maybe you are right and Urango had one to many tough nights, but we can't take that away from Devon them uppercuts were beautiful. But I see Alexander as getting beat up second half of the fight against Timmy.

I wondered that myself after the fight...Then I wondered if maybe Alexander just caught Urango in the perfect spot at the right moment?.....It happens don't care how good your chin is.....Not as if Juan has ever been a hard guy to find......It was shocking though never expected Urango to go down like that so it was a good stoppage for Alexander.....Can not take that away from him....I cant wait for this fight

Re: Bradley - Alexander who have you got ?
I'm gonna ride with the underdog in this one. I see Devon's southpaw stance/style giving Bradley some trouble.
-
Re: Bradley - Alexander who have you got ?
Alexander. The reason why I pick him over Bradley, is the hunger and desire he has. Bradley won the title from Junior Witter who was nowhere near his best.Alexander the great maybe not, but Alexander the champ fits nicely.
-
Re: Bradley - Alexander who have you got ?
Another thing that worries me about Bradley is his tendency to keep his hands kinda low, or out if position whenever he's rolling around, underneath shots.
Plus his left hand is generally a little low and wide... I can see Alexander's jab becoming a bit of a pest.
Plus he has watch being caught square... Unless it's to his own advantage, which usually when he does, it's not.
But other than that, I'll think he'll win ;D
-
Re: Bradley - Alexander who have you got ?
Alexander for me because he's a southpaw and has the ability to KO his opponent with his right hand. Plus I'm not that impress with Bradley's last 2 fights.

It was a great uppercut and Urango walked right on to it. Just one of those things. Was just the perfect punch really. If he repeats it ever again, i'll buy a hat and eat it.

Really? do you have a source for that mate? I'd love to see him fight on but I suppose you gotta be realistic... As much as I enjoyed watching him fight, he is pretty horrible now.... I hope he can go out in style man, I really do. Defo one of my favourite fighters to watch over the past 10 years.

I read a slew of posts last week that said Alexander has taken to man head shots and is or sounds slurring and punch drunk??? I laugh because people from that part of the US have that sort of drawl to them.. The kid is a baby let him fight 20 more years and then accuse him of sounding like Holyfield.. Also contrary to popular belief not all boxers sound articulate like literary genuises :-P Any How I do believe Alexander is the better balanced fighter of skill, chin, power than Bradley. I also think that Bradley will get countered a bit too.. I think the Key is for Cunningham to keep his head screwed on straight when the 8th round up until the end of the fight. I also think Devon has more than enough power in his right to slow down Bradleys work rate and keep the fight at his pace and distance. I have never been impressed with Bradley, I feel like his best showings are against faded competition..(Witter and Campbell) he did look solid against Peterson who couldn't crack an egg and couldn't finish Peterson either even though he was pressing and cleaning him up.
Alexander for me. Maybe 10th round stoppage

Absolutely can't wait for this one. What a way to start the year off.
JT, I have it a similar way to you, seeing Alexander winning inside the distance, via a beautiful counter, which Bradley is definately open to hear and there. You only have to watch the Bradley Holt fight to see that. I personally think Alexander is more skilled and a better counter puncher than Holt for sure. I Alexander can keep cool and box through early barrages and plenty of punches from Bradley I see him catching Bradley around 8 or 9.

I hope Alexander wins, I thought he might have had something special, so im hoping he was just looking past Kotelnik to bigger fights in the future so we can call that a blip. I think he's shown a variety of skills, speed and good power in the past. If he does lose he's got more time to come back only being 23, but I think we need all the young stars we can get to be honest. I hadn't heard him before the recent 'face-off' but I wasnt suprised to hear him speak how he doesn knowing where he's from, as JT said.

Re: Bradley - Alexander who have you got ?
I am picking Bradley to win a close decision. He has better defense, and I think has more arsenal to choose from. I was a lil worried when he said he was sick with the flu, but he is still on weight and seems healthy now. Alexander is solid but as Kotelnik showed he can be hit, I think Alexander has the power advantage but you got to hit the guy for it to be effective. Bradleys upper body movement in close will be his biggest asset.
