Cotto vs Mayorga - Top Rank Trailer
Cotto vs Mayorga trailer.
Looking forward to seeing Miguel Cotto back in the ring.

Check out Mayorga at 00:50. ;D

I'd pay just too see the press conferences let alone the fight. Mayorgas hilarious. Looking forward to seeing how cotto deals with it all. Fight should be entertaining also.

Re: Cotto vs Mayorga - Top Rank Trailer
I like both fighters, but hope Mayorga is going to put the work in and give us a good scrap. The DLH fight was awful, but when he puts the work in Mayorga can be dangerous for anyone. I'm curious to see what he has left. I don't think Cotto is a 154 pound fighter and damages very easily, so if Mayorga can make an impact early I think it could be an interesting fight.

Re: Cotto vs Mayorga - Top Rank Trailer
Oh, come on! Mayorga was way done at this level back in 08' He can't keep up with Cotto, even though Cotto has slipped some. Mayorga used to have a granite chin, but no more. Cotto will box Mayorga at first and then KO him by about the 6th round. If he makes weight it will be surprising.

Cotto doesn't exactly throw a lot of punches nor have great stamina himself. Sure, Cotto is favourite and the much younger guy, but Mayorga at his best is never easy for anyone.

"Once upon a time", Mayorga was! you said it your self, if he puts in the work. While Cotto can't last against the super endurance freaks his not going to be pounded by Mayorga because he'll box him.

Perhaps, I haven't said I disagree with you entirely. That's why I want to see this fight, it might well be more interesting than is supposed to be the case. I'm sure Forrest thought he would box Mayorga too, not as easy as it looks. Maybe Cotto will do it like DLH, but maybe not. Let's just see, eh.

Re: Cotto vs Mayorga - Top Rank Trailer
Think if Mayorga had focused less on gimmicks and being his own biggest fan and got down to boxing 101 and stayed division sharp and conditioned he'd have done damn well for himself. Unfortunatly he's become the most colorful stepping stone the sidewalk of boxing has known in some time.
Yeh well whatever ;D Hey. I think this is a 55-45 ish fight given styles and Cottos accumlilated damage. Love Cotto but thing is Oscar, Tito and Forrest 2 were is peak stride when they met. With Mayorga its punch-right hand-shoulder slam-clinch-wrestle for the first few rounds and physically he can be taxing. Cotto is not fast on his feet and while jab will ram rod Mayorga Cotto has a telegraphed type of delivery at times, leaves arms extended....and he can be backed badly and squares up...still. He cuts and will have to step inside of Mayorga to keep him off early. Cotto should outclass him but I believe Mayorga is very live.
Edit: I'm calling out Diane to make a comeback. For old times sake and to watch your bwoy give it a go.

Re: Cotto vs Mayorga - Top Rank Trailer
I think Cotto maybe shot. I hope not because he has been a very good fighter but if he is and Mayorga trains right for this fight then I think an upset is on the cards!
-
Re: Cotto vs Mayorga - Top Rank Trailer
Some terrible music / soundtrack choice for a boxing trailer like that. oh dear.
I'm on Mayorga for the upset here.................
-
Re: Cotto vs Mayorga - Top Rank Trailer
This is a step down for Cotto, there is no victory here for him.
The only thing interesting here is what Mayorga will say about Cottos mother.

Manny is excited that Cotto is excited about beating up Mayorga.

Iv read a few times that Manny is concerened that regardless of fitness he thinks Mayorga will be dangerous early and that he will be huge compared to Cotto. I remember watching the Mosley fight and hearing Steward being suprised at how long Mayorga was able to box the way de did. He expected him to tire early and was surprised how he made Shane look shite, took his shots and had Shane worried about his power. He knows that Mayorga could take his man if he trains. when Steward got up and spoke, I thought that made Cotto look a little week, like Steward felt he needed to do that.
I also notice how everyone is saying "If Mayorga trains, its going to be very interesting".
I think thats because everyone deep down accepts that Mayorga at his best beats Cotto. Even though this is a 37 year old Mayorga coming off over 2 years out and a KO. He is still seen as a threat to cotto.
I think Coto is too small and easily manhandled by someone Mayorgas size to be fighting at this weight. Mayorga just proved he can throw around and beat up a natural strong middle. Hes now going against a natural welter who fades when pressured.
Cotto sounded very nervous, he had a crackled wobly voice and was swallowing constantly while sat when Mayorga was calling him a girl;D
Steward knows the reality of the situation and is praying that Mayorga doesnt train;)
Look at one of the interviews after the coonference, cotto is asked about Mayorgas wild style and he stutters and just says that Steward will plan everything. I think he might just start caving in during the fight when Mayorga is landing heavy shot after heavy shot and keeps coming;)

Mayorga can train with Roach, Goosen, and Angelo Dundee himself, have the greatest camp of his career and Cotto will still ko him

Reading this I guess that this is the first time you hear Cotto speaking. Yes, Cotto has to be careful of a wild shot, but remember this is boxing. About the comment about Manny making the strategy, Cotto makes his work (TRAIN) and let the promoters and trainers do their job.

Tito made cotton candy of the granite ;-)

Re: Cotto vs Mayorga - Top Rank Trailer
Emmanuel Stewart has disliked Mayorga for a long time now. Ever since he was asked to train Mayorga and stormed out saying "This guy can't fight !". Stewart is a bitch, a liar, and a lil whore for hire. He dumps his fighters as soon as they lose, and steals guys from their career long trainers once they reach the top.
I really hope Mayorga makes Stewart eat his words.
Emmanuel had no place getting up and talking shit at the press conference.
Mayorga is a live under dog in this fight. This isn't Tito or Oscar. Cotto was/is a very good boxer but he was never on that level. He squeeked out a victory over Mosley, and beat up Judah and those are his biggest wins.
He is no doubt the superior boxer, but he is also the much smaller man, with a very questionable defense, who has taken some truly horrid beatings as of late.

Mayorga's biggest wins are a lucky punch KO against Forrest and a gift against him in the rematch, he'll always be known as the guy who smokes, talks massive amounts of shit, and then gets KTFO against a real elite fighter as he did against DLH, Trinidad, and Mosley
it'll be no different this time around, but whatever, let the guy run his mouth all he wants, cause after he's ko'd (again) he'll be tucking his tail between his legs as if it were Cesar Milan in there with him (yet again)

Are you really going to pretend to be one of those people who thinks Mayorga didn't win the rematch with Forrest ? I mean really ? He clearly won that fight.
Mayorga's biggest wins are knocking out HBO's golden boy, Andrew "six heads" Lewis, then knocking out Vernon Forrest who was nearly P4P best in the world at the time, beating him the rematch, beating Cory Spinks EASY and getn blatently robbed, and retiring Fernando Vargas. Michelle Piccarilo wasn't' a bad win either, seein as he was a former world champion. Forrest def whooped Piccarillo worse tho.
I like Cotto. I do. But Mayorga is my favorite fighter and I am backing him in this one. He has a real shot in this fight.

Re: Cotto vs Mayorga - Top Rank Trailer
Mayorga KO12, take a knee. Mayorga is a nice guy he said he is gonna end Cotto's mother's suffering from watching her son take those beatings, she can be at peace after this fight when he ends his career.:p

are you kidding me? Spinks clearly beat Mayorga, and Vargas' back retired him, a prime Vargas would have also knocked Mayorga the fuck out

Spinks lost 10 out of 12 rounds and was knocked down 3 times with Mayorga not getting credit for any of the knockdowns.
It was such a clear Mayorga win that I was shocked when he was robbed of the decision.
And I agree a prime Vargas would beat Mayorga. Vargas was more talented and a true 154 lber.
Prime Vargas would have also knocked Cotto the fuck out. Quite easily.

Tito made cotton candy of the granite ;-)
Mayorga still has a very good chin. Tito stopped Mayorga with body shots. Iv said it before but I dont think David Haye would have taken that many clean shots to the head from Tito as Mayorga did in that fight. It always been his fitness that lets him down. Even the left hook that Oscar dropped him with, he got back up and ate a shit load more.
There hasnt been any losses where Mayorga has been just been stopped out of the blue. Against Mosley he tired and would have been pushed over in the last and I believe had he known there was just one second left in the round, he would have got up.
This time though he has had a recent fight where he fought 9 rounds.
Cotto is not the puncher that De La Hoya, Trinidad or Mosley are, he doesnt take as good a shot as any of these either and is smaller than all of them too. He wont have the strength to keep Mayorga off him and I agree Steward just doesnt like Mayorga. He sounded like an angry housewife or a mum sticking up for her wimpy child when he spoke for Cotto! He is going to hate the fact that Arum chose Mayorga of all people to beat up Cotto;) First Mayorga will beat one of his fighters and second, robbing Steward of getting money for the following fights Cotto could have had!
-
Re: Cotto vs Mayorga - Top Rank Trailer
Even if he got up against Shane he would have still lost on the cards. It was a damn close fight though, and alot of people here on saddos thought Mayorga was up on points at the time of the KO. I thought Cotto was lucky to get the win vs Shane, I think I had it a 1 point win for Shane. So judging by common opponent it should be a good fight, Mayorga can box better than people give him credit for. He was schooling Vargas(yeah a washed up Vargas but still). He should have got the win against Spinks, seemed like the ref was just looking for anything to deduct points. I'll have to watch that again because its been awhile and I think I missed the first few rounds. I think this will be a early contender for FOTY if Mayorga gets in good shape.

Mayorga on his day makes Cotto quit faster than he did with Margarito. In fact I dont think Cotto will get the choice to quit. Mayorga will be the heaviest puncher that Cotto has faced.

Mosley hits a hell of a lot harder than Mayorga, as well as Margarito with his loaded gloves ;), like i said Cotto will stop him and make him bitch out as he did against DLH, and well when that happens you'll be nowhere to be found

No.
Mayorgas heavy punches made Forrest wilt and fight cautious. Vernon walked through Mosleys. De La Hoya has stated that Mayorga has "very heavy hands" but hes never comented on Shanes power. Shane is quick but he doesnt hit as hard as Ricardo;)
Spinks ate Taylors punches up but got dropped by Mayorga. Vargas got dropped twice by Mayorga but Mosley couldnt.

hahaha what punches? there were like 20 punches combined the entire fight, Mayorga beat a shot Vargas with a fucked up back by Majority Decision, Mosley won by stoppage, then by a ONE PUNCH KNOCKOUT in the rematch! only guy he beat by KO which is a standout is Forrest who didn't take the fight seriously, nice try though

lol Mosley def did a better job on Vargas in the second fight. Knocked him clean out.
Mayorga beat Forrest TWICE. Deal with it.
Now do you remember the Cotto vs. Ricardo Torres fight ?
Cotto got dropped hard twice in that one, and Mayorga is A LOT like Torres except bigger, tougher, and better.
And that was Cotto in his prime at 140, not the Cotto of now.
Mayorga has a real chance in this fight. You don't want to believe it because you are such a die hard Cotto fan. But Mayorga is capable of beating him.

Your posts always stick out from the rest because of your hatred of Cotto. So I'll address your post. First... your labeling of Cotto as a "quitter" shows how precious little you know about boxing. The guy is anything BUT a quitter. But you hate Cotto so much you can't give him an ounce of credit. The guy's a warrior, and 99.99% of this forum knows that. That he took a knee against Margarito and his questionable, loaded gloves... when his nose had been broken back in the 2nd round and his face was a swollen, bloody mess? Yes, he did. Probably why he's still able to fight now.
But back to Cotto-Mayorga. I've always said Mayorga has the "proverbial" puncher's chance. He's wild... he's powerful. If Cotto allows a big shot early, it could be trouble. I'm sure Stewart is schooling him to be careful in the first few rounds. And yes... Cotto is naturally the smaller man. On the other hand, he's twice... no... scratch that... he's MANY times the boxer Mayorga is. He can stick and move, he can bang to the body, he can play defense when he has to. If he brings his "A" game... he should come out on top. Yes, Mayorga's tough, rugged, and hits hard. But he's a wild swinger with no game plan other than throw haymakers all night.
He's trying to get into Cotto's mind, so Cotto will come out mad at the opening bell and trade with him. I bet Stewart has warned him about that, so I doubt Cotto will make that mistake.
One thing, BTW. As usual... win or lose... I plan to be on the forum after the fight.
Just make sure you do the same.
;)

But Mayorga is capable of beating him.
yea i do remember the Cotto/Torres fight, i know you don't cause you said it your self you haven't watched ANY of Cotto's fights, he was dropped ONCE, the first knockdown of his career, and he ended up dropping Torres twice and KO'ing him with a body shot, Torres also has both better speed and technique than Mayorga, and i'm leaving it there, make sure to log on and take your pokes once Cotto wrecks Mayorga

Re: Cotto vs Mayorga - Top Rank Trailer
To me Cotto got pretty Lucky against Mosley and Clotty with the decisions i thought he lost both. Also i think people are forgetting just how bad a beating he has taken form Margarito and Pac. He does not have the chin or the power of Oscar El and he also does not poses Oscars speed as well dude. So i am kinda of confused on why you are bringing up Oscar fight because they are not alike at all.

Re: Cotto vs Mayorga - Top Rank Trailer
I rewatched the Spinks-Mayorga fight and had it a draw 113-113. The commentary was pretty biased (Chris Byrd/Haymon). The ref was kind of biased but Mayorga was holding and hitting. The things I didnt agree with was the deduction for hitting after the bell it wasnt that late, and the ref jumped in late. As soon as he got in Mayorga didnt throw. Spinks lunges in with the head anytime they got close and he gave some headbutts. Also that causes the ref to immediately break them, he was like Cortez with the breaks. Two "slips" that could have been knockdowns, especially the one in the 12th round where Mayorga clearly hit him with a body shot. Just because Cory was flopping around doesnt mean that its not a kd. If a guy is off balance and you hit him thats a knock down most of the time. One time he leans back so much that he falls.

I'm glad we half way agree ;D
But you gave Spinks far too many rounds. I had him winning 2 rounds maybe 3. He makes Mayorga miss, but he never makes him PAY.
Spinks would go on to later get gifts against Judah and Karmazin, no doubt because of his last name, but neither of those were nearly as bad as the decision he was given agasint Mayorga.
Utter nonsense.
Mayorga clearly knocked the man down at least twice.

The two rounds he was deducted in he won, so they were 9-9, and if you throw in one kd, it's a pretty clear win for Mayorga, but you gotta score it how the ref rules it.

seems you forgot that the beating he took from Margarito was most likely with loaded gloves and a broken nose from the 2nd round on, same play you put on Cotto not being like Oscar i can say on Mayorga being NOTHING like Margarito and much less Pacquiao, both guys have better boxing ability (although Margarito is limited), Pacquiao has blazing speed Mayorga doesn't, people are seriously starting to undersell or de-credit Cotto based on a fight he was cheated in, and a fight he fought with no corner, i've said it once and i'll say it again, he's going to surprise a lot of people this year with how much he still has left

Ricardo has taken some big beatings and takes them well, while still trying to knock his opponent out with everything he throws. Cotto against Margarito, skirted the ring for rounds until he found a space to take a knee.
I dont think Cotto has as much fight in him as Mayorga. I think he will be surpried as to how hard mayorga hits and how strong he is and it will only be a matter of time before Cotto thinks to himself, that he doesnt really need to be in boxing any more and will probably just quit in the corner between rounds and only if Mayorga doesnt marraud him to the point the ref saves Cotto or peels him off the canvas;D.

Mayorga never has been pounded by a guy wearing loaded gloves ;), and he flat out quit against DLH, looking up at Nady as if he were Jesus Christ himself, so get over it
