Perhaps, I haven't said I disagree with you entirely. That's why I want to see this fight, it might well be more interesting than is supposed to be the case. I'm sure Forrest thought he would box Mayorga too, not as easy as it looks. Maybe Cotto will do it like DLH, but maybe not. Let's just see, eh.
Think if Mayorga had focused less on gimmicks and being his own biggest fan and got down to boxing 101 and stayed division sharp and conditioned he'd have done damn well for himself. Unfortunatly he's become the most colorful stepping stone the sidewalk of boxing has known in some time.
Yeh well whateverHey. I think this is a 55-45 ish fight given styles and Cottos accumlilated damage. Love Cotto but thing is Oscar, Tito and Forrest 2 were is peak stride when they met. With Mayorga its punch-right hand-shoulder slam-clinch-wrestle for the first few rounds and physically he can be taxing. Cotto is not fast on his feet and while jab will ram rod Mayorga Cotto has a telegraphed type of delivery at times, leaves arms extended....and he can be backed badly and squares up...still. He cuts and will have to step inside of Mayorga to keep him off early. Cotto should outclass him but I believe Mayorga is very live.
Edit: I'm calling out Diane to make a comeback. For old times sake and to watch your bwoy give it a go.

I think Cotto maybe shot. I hope not because he has been a very good fighter but if he is and Mayorga trains right for this fight then I think an upset is on the cards!
Some terrible music / soundtrack choice for a boxing trailer like that. oh dear.
I'm on Mayorga for the upset here.................
This is a step down for Cotto, there is no victory here for him.
The only thing interesting here is what Mayorga will say about Cottos mother.
Cotto at press conference:
"with these little hands and these little pants i beat Shane Mosley, you know who that is right?"

Manny is excited that Cotto is excited about beating up Mayorga.
Do not let success go to your head and do not let failure get to your heart.

I happen to agree with you it's beneath Cotto to fight this clown... I have always been Leary of a fighter who is preceded with
"when he trains right" "when he's focused" blah blah.. Mayorga with his cheap and trashy promotion style.. Pure garbage. If he wants to run his mouth and cut Promos then look up Vince McMahon and the WWE. They do a lot of talking and wrasslin
'Top WANK' more like. I could make a far better video than that!!!!!
Yeah he might be but he has flaws which top ranked fighters can exploit. Yeh cotto has lost two fights but so had de la Hoya, trinidad and Mosley still had losses and they still handled Mayorga. They knew he ws dangerous but his performances against these fighters was poor! He got stopped in all three! He might bring strong aspects to the ring but what does it matter if you don't use them? He lost all three fights and he's going to lose again against cotto! There was no shame for cotton losing to manny and cotto in the back of his head will have the belief margarito could have packed his gloves. I still have belief cotto has more to offer the sport if his injury doesn't effect his performance because I feel he's an outstanding fighter who can beat Mayorga whos not done anything for years!
Oscar, Tito and Shane had never taken the 2 beatings that Cottos has. When he starts having to take big shots again he will cave in.
Mayorga lost those fights because of lack of preparation, he was inactive for long periods before hand and still had to be litterally nailed down before he would stop fighting. Cotto doesnt have the fire power or mental fortitude to weather any storm and come back at this point and against someone so much stronger than him. My opinion is that Cotto will be like Tyson against Holyfield, or Williams. Hes there for the money and doesnt have the strong will to win any more for anyone that can take his shots and fire back.
Also, iv read a few times now that Steward wants Cotto jabbing and moving. I just feel that is playing in to Mayorgas hands even more. Cotto needs to be in his face up close, to take away the space Mayorga likes to swing. Not backing up and encouraging Mayorga to get in to a rythm.

Pacs a lot better than Mayorga though , Mayorga won't be capable of a performance that manny was able to deliver! Margarito imo had loaded gloves and his face was in a real bad way after the fight. Margarito hasn't demonstrated power since then it's a tough call. I personally think margarito would beat Mayorga as well! Mayorga is well past it and he wont be able to rally a strong performance against cotto
Well, of their common opponents you have to say that Mayorgas performance was far better against Shane and Margarito was a hell of a lot more active before hand than Ricardo. Margarito isnt a puncher, what stopped Cotto was Margaritos strength, he could take everything Cotto had and keep coming forward punching.
They may well have had loaded gloves or been a superior boxer to Mayorga but regardless, the damage is done. Hes taken those 2 beatings and has had a few hard fights besides those as well. Cotto is going to find it very difficult to enjoy being in the boxing ring when he is again in with someone who can absorb his shots and throw the hardest hes ever felt.
Im not saying Cotto is physically unable to compete at a high level any more, just that anyone strong who can take what Cotto dishes out and give it right back is going to beat him.
We are just going round in circles! You clearly think mayorgas going to win I think cotto will. You've given your views, I've given mine. Let the best man win!
