Saul Alvarez vs Matthew Hatton for the WBC Light Middleweight title
Being fought at a catchweight of 150lbs. Again.
What an absolute farce. Goldenboy have obviously sent a few envelopes full of cash to the WBC in exchange for them giving Canelo a world title. That is what they have done - given him a title, it's been dripfed to him. The fact he is fighting Matthew Hatton confirms this as there is absolutely no risk of him losing this fight. Another example of what a shambles the governing body are. Goldenboy obviously knew, before the fight was announced, that this fight was going to be for the WBC title. Just wish they had've given it, even a little, credibility by having him fight an actual light middleweight.
I feel a bit sorry for Ryan Rhodes. Worked his way back up the rankings for the past couple of years and being leapfrogged yet again. This time by a fellow cueball-headed Brit who, even as a welterweight and with no disrepect, is European level at best.
WBC - World Boxing Cancer. Slowly killing the sport.
-
It's official De La Hoya is the new Don King...totally corrupt and will do any thing to simplify his strong hold on World Boxing...shame on u Golden Boy
job biscuit (its a circle that cannot b broken)!!!
eh eh!!!
-
It doesn't really matter about the catch weight.....Canelo takes out Hatton EASY.
The big question is when will Canelo and JC Jr fight?
-
-
Total and utter fuckin joke. Nothing more to add.

Re: Saul Alvarez vs Matthew Hatton for the WBC Light Middleweight title

Re: Saul Alvarez vs Matthew Hatton for the WBC Light Middleweight title
Hard to bitch about one crook in a sport full of them. This sham is no worse than pac hopping over damn near the whole boxing world to fight margo at a stupid catchweight in a division neither of them were in. Or andre dirells miracle brain restoration, or them with a straight face charging tickets to watch haye fight harrison. Why wouldn't they do crap like this when everyone is still buying tickets and watching the fights ? No reason for them to stop. Don't really blame them actually.

Re: Saul Alvarez vs Matthew Hatton for the WBC Light Middleweight title
Fair play to Hatton, I don't think he's done too badly to get himself to European level, and made reasonable work of those put in front of him, and stepped up his game since Ricky went out of the picture. No doubt that Alvarez is in a different league, but Hatton's worked hard over recent years and deserves a nice paycheque for a fight, which will most likely see him try hard but eventually will be found to be out of his depth.
As for Alvarez, it's clever management, but it's a world title in name only until he beats some real world class opposition.

i agree with the first bit, hatton is more deserving than some who get a shot, perhaps not as deserving as ryan rhodes but how often do things ever go the fair way
i dont agree with the second bit tho, it is a world title fight, both men deserve to be there and it will be more of a fight than most are saying
you cant start saying - well you arent a proper world champ coz you only fought him or you arent a proper world champ coz this happened - who ever wins is world champ and the man to beat

exactly
you can only ever beat whats infront of you, if the guy isnt getting the best fights possible made for him it 9/10 isnt his fault
this should be an absolute cracker while it lasts, i fully expect magic matthew my new favourite boxer to be crowned WBC light middleweight champion of the world

I disagree entirely. If this was at Welterweight, for a Welterweight World title, then maybe I'd agree with you. However, for the second time in a row, rather than look at their list of contenders who are career light-middleweights, the WBC have bypassed them to sanction 2 pretty much career Welterweights (who's biggest wins have been at Welterweight) to fight for the 154lb title at a 150lb catchweight. Neither of these guys could be considered the man to beat at light-middle, because besides this fight they'll have proven nothing at the weight. The likes of Rhodes, Martirosyan, Angulo etc. have the right to be pissed off. What is the point of working your way up the rankings in that weightclass if you're just going to be bypassed by 2 guys who've proven nothing? It makes a complete mockery of the sport and the WBC should be ashamed of themselves.

but that very scenario happens in a variety of sports
the winner of footies champions league, the outright winner of a golf/tennis major - there probably were/are better teams or players more deserving of the tournament itself but it just happens that the eventual winners become the ones that own the titles
if alvarez or hatton arent up to the task of being champion they will be found out in time, but either one deserves a chance to be the MAN in the division

i hear what you are saying but it just doesnt work that way
manny fought for a light-middleweight title in his first light middleweight fight, his best win had been at light welterweight, and a catchweight a bit below welterweight, was he a worthy challenger?
if governing bodies stood around waiting for fights to be made things would get a whole lot more annoying for the fans
this fight is happening and it is an opportunity to get a worthy champ, nothing else is yet organised

Yes but the outright winner of the Champions League in Football would have earned the right to win the title by beating other teams involved in the competition. Same with Tennis/Golf. Somewhere along the line, one of the other participants would have made a mistake in order for the eventual winner to be crowned champion.
In this scenario Alvarez & Matthew Hatton have done absolutely nothing to warrant a shot at a Light-Middleweight Title. They haven't beaten a top 10 contender at 154lbs. I wouldn't even say they should be first in line for a crack at a Welterweight Title. The fact that guys like Ryan Rhodes, who has been beating WBC Top Ten Ranked fighters for a while now is consistantly overlooked is just plain wrong. At least with Pacquiao, he was considered the best at Welterweight before moving up for a title shot.

Re: Saul Alvarez vs Matthew Hatton for the WBC Light Middleweight title
There is simply no way in hell that anyone can justify to me that Saul Alvarez (Welterweight) vs Matthew Hatton (Welterweight) should have a fight sanctioned for the WBC LM Belt. Its plain ridiculous.
Its like some athletics board putting out a 100m championship and letting a couple of 200m or 400m race for it when clearly there are plenty of racers at 100m that have been overlooked.
I mean, MATTHEW HATTON, fighting for a Light Middleweight World Title, can anyone possibly take that seriosuly. This shit is just spoiling a sport I really really love. This should be Angulo vs Ryan Rhodes or Erislandy Lara vs vanes Martirosyan, as examples. Come on.
Eric, surely you don't believe yourself on this one. And for me, Pacquiao absolutely should not have been fighting for the LM title, no way, and neither should Margarito. That was a farce and just an organisation GIVING Pacquiao another title to stroke his ego.....

Points for your mind don't seem to sink in too well so I thought I'd make it pretty clear to help.
Anyways, in answer to the Crolla Watson question, thats different for sure, two weeks short notice, how many people would be ready at that time and want it.
Ricky Burns: Super feather World Champ
Stephen Foster: Super Feath Euro Champ
Alex Arthur: No Idea wghere he's at
John Murray: Lightweight Euro Champ
Kevin Mitchell: This should have been him really if he wants back in the game
Martin Gethin: Really
Gary Buckland: New Super Feather Domestic Champ after smashing Sykes, got mauled last time round at lightweight.
I mean, Crolla was about the best available I'd say, other than Micthell, who strikes me as the kind of guy that, unless he's been in camp for a while, he holds weight.....
These points just can't be said about Hatton or Alvarez for a LM World Title shot. They just can't.
Some always fly the flag for the very best of what we should be watching and entertained by. SUPER SIX is doing that at the moment, or intended to do that, and Showtime are also doing it with Mares Vic, Perez and Agbeko at Bantom. Other divisions such as LM should be ashamed of themselves when compared with these such divisions of boxing.
This weekend i'll be mostly watching Donaire vs Montiel for a world title, and Mike Jones vs Soto Karass fighting it solid for rankings in a rematch.

Jamie Moore was mandatory for a shot at Martinez, Rhodes then smashed Moore, so should have got his shot. But didn't and was cast aside, probably where he'll stay. He mustn't want it as far as I'm concerned, otherwise he'd be making atleast a little noise, and he doesn't even do that..........

Re: Saul Alvarez vs Matthew Hatton for the WBC Light Middleweight title
Boxing should call these soup fights pre-title bout eliminators and then call unified fights as semi-finals and make the winner a mandatory fight for Linear Title before declaring the winner World Champion.

There are plenty of people who enjoy sex, doesn't mean they won't moan like f*** if they were raped does it? Boxing fans want to see the best fight the best. We want competative fights and we want to see people earn their chance, not push in the queue. Anyone who advocates otherwise is stating that they are happy with the bullshit we're constantly fed from this sport. The actual boxing is what we're a fan of, it's the politics we're moaning about.
-
Re: Saul Alvarez vs Matthew Hatton for the WBC Light Middleweight title
What a p*** take this fight is, Carnt fault Hatton for taking it tho not his fault he is been offered a chance to fight for a world title even if it is at a different weight to which he has been fighting at.
Ryan Rhodes must be sick of the wbc by now. There are fighters at light middleweight who deserve the chance to fight for the title more than Alvarez and Hatton.

which points havent sunk in dude?
What seems to not sink in with you is, i believe both men deserve the chance although there are probably more deserving fighters, i dont think anyone believes they are the most deserving, but why are you getting so upset about it?
ok crolla may have been a bad example, but are you telling me that everyone who gets every fight deserve it more than anyone else?
As you mention Jamie moore he is a shining example of a fighter who deserved more in my opinion
he rules britain for a few years and struggled to get a euro shot he should have got years before he did
compare that to ricky burns, who has a short stint as british champ, not really beating anyone of note and then gets a world title shot
not that i have anything against burns, he is a nice guy and totally deserves what he has got but there are a few boxers in history who's records say they perhaps deserved it more and didnt get it

Saul Alvarez vs Matthew Hatton for the WBC Light Middleweight World Title...........:dontknow:
which points havent sunk in dude?
What seems to not sink in with you is, i believe both men deserve the chance although there are probably more deserving fighters, i dont think anyone believes they are the most deserving, but why are you getting so upset about it?
ok crolla may have been a bad example, but are you telling me that everyone who gets every fight deserve it more than anyone else?
As you mention Jamie moore he is a shining example of a fighter who deserved more in my opinion
he rules britain for a few years and struggled to get a euro shot he should have got years before he did
compare that to ricky burns, who has a short stint as british champ, not really beating anyone of note and then gets a world title shot
not that i have anything against burns, he is a nice guy and totally deserves what he has got but there are a few boxers in history who's records say they perhaps deserved it more and didnt get it
To be honest Eric, I think we should move on, arguing is not my thing. You made the point that BOTH MEN ARE DESERVING OF THE SHOT, you had been arguing it, so I made it VERY clear with type at point size 5 in red that you are bang wrong. End of..... Just wanted that point to sink in with a clear and concise message.. No sweats
On the flip side and moving on a little. Maybe Golden Boy could delay this fight till April 9th and have it as chief support to the Light Welterweight World Title fight that is Marcos Maidana vs Erik Morales, with the crowd all laughing in unison at the total shit that GBP are throwing at the boxing public these days.

Hatton gets a world title shot
Brother Hatton has got a chance to nab his very own world title.
He will be stepping up in weight and although I don't know much on his opponent, I can't see him winning. Stepping up in weight etc etc. I just feel it will be too much for him.

Re: Saul Alvarez vs Matthew Hatton for the WBC Light Middleweight title
Wow a lot of moans and whinges on this thread.
Those of you who are bleating on, to whom are your whines directed exactly? And for what reason?
Aside from the usual jokes about Matthew Hatton being shit I don't really see any problem with this fight.
You can't seriously say that Hatton is a joke choice of opponent for Alvarez. He isn't. Alvarez is only 20 years old.
I agree he's gifted and likely to be several classes above Hatton but he's only 20.
At that time in his career the great Floyd Mayweather was fighting the 12-15-1 Tony Duran who had gone 10 fights without a win before meeting Floyd and went a further 6 without winning after.
Hatton as dull and ugly as he maybe is still the legitimate European Champion, is unbeaten in 9 and was robbed by the judges of a win against Lovemore N'dou who took Alvarez the full 12 round distance last time out.
Ok, it's for a vacant belt, but again so what? Are you blaming Oscar for negotioating the best possible deal for his hot prospect fighter?
And why is such a travesty that these fight for a vacant belt? Alvarez is one of boxing's hottest young prospects, and Hatton as much as he bores me keeps on winning fights, has defended his European belt twice and is rated number 5 in the world by both the WBA and WBC.
So both are world ranked, neither has lost in 10 fights, and Alvarez is unbeaten. The title is vacant and we already know you cunts don't think guys like Pacquiao, Margarito or Mosely should be allowed to fight for these belts either, so who can fight for them?
You're all idiots. :)
