It seems to me that best opponents for Rios are at light welter, Khan, Bradley, Maidana, Alexander, Ortiz maybe if he comes back down after Berto..
How does he do against them?
I think he's a beast at lightweight. Hell of a chin and the power to wreck fighters.
To me he's like a better version of Maidana, I think I'd make him a favourite against them all apart from Bradley.
He'd be a nightmare for Amir Khan and would break Alexanders heart for sure.
I'd love to see him in the mix at 140.
Rois showed a lot last night. I would love to see him in the mix at 140. But first at 135. JMM against Rois next for sure.
To answer the question, I think Rois will have some good fights at 140. Not sure if he will win any of them. MM could be a classic. Two bulls!!! But Rois showed he could get hit and get hit often.
Bradley is just in his own class but Rois will give him a fight. At least better then Alexander.
Khan? If Khan gets hit, it could be over. But Khan skills is much superior then Rois,
Difinitely I would like to see him fight Ortiz. I'm curious to see how their bad blood plays out on fight promo. :D
he is still slightly bigger than these guys except Ortiz who comes in at 156 lbs too. both Khan and Maidana walked in at 149 lbs at fight night. Bradley at 148 lbs and Alexander at 152 lbs.Quote:

I have to agree. I'm not sold on Rios. He's a hack. Acosta was the right pick for Rios. For someone "with movement", he kept going straight back whenever Rios was on top of him and sat in the pocket with his hands down, looking to shoe shine offense from the hip rather than protecting his face. Acosta was fading badly from the legs up and really wasn't keeping himself composed.Quote:

Maidana would be a good fight as Marcos bangs like Rios but IMO just a bit harder....Would be a close call...Though Maidana has bveen in with better comp for sure..
Ortiz I see playing out like I stated the Alexander fight would but I think Ortiz folds quicker he is not as skilled as Alexander or near as fast....
Bradley breaks him down and since Bradley gets stronger as the fight goes on and Rios is so one dimensional it becomes very one sided after the 6th with Tim scoring a lop sideded UD..
IMO Khan gives him the biggest problems...The speed added with power beats Rios into the ground I say Khan is the only one I can feel confident in stating stops Rios....
Rios is a strong kid who has heart and power but as a boxer is very limited so has his comp thus far....Peterson just gave up and looked for the easy way out and he was just too strong for Acosta who when you look at his record has not been in with the best available either...
Rios has a long long way to go before he is ready for the best at 140....This kid could make 147 easy and do it in shape but his skillset would make him nothing more then a journeyman there

Rios would do well against the top light welters but wouldn't win nearly as much as if he stayed at 135. The division is full of young guys with no true heir to the future and Rios looks more accomplished than all of them.
He probably has the most problems with Kahn because of his speed but has a chance to wear him down if he catches him. Zab Judah probably would've beaten him a few years ago.
Anyway any match up at 140 looks interesting but Rios is better served not finding out.
Everyone that has quick hands and has excellent footwork (135+) will beat him. Rios is tough, very strong, and stalker. He's a mini Margarito.

Maidana has been in with Better IMO...Peterson just went awry in that fight he basically looked for a way out and got a DQ in his efforts....Just the fact Maidana has been in with lasted 12 and shook the shit out of Khan tops any of Rios comp alone..,.

Physically he's already there. Guy is huge and just a pitstop at 135. Only guy I see him staying around for is Soto.
It all comes down to how much his chin will take. He's not learning backfoot and adding too much anytime soon. I think what you see is what you get. Don't see him getting a Khan, just a bit risk-reward ration for Khan who has scraped together a peak. I think range and mobilty kill Rios, you couldnt miss him if you tried but you better be willing to soak up some damage yourself. Bradley way too diverse and deep for him right now. Alexander wont touch-fight him and doesn't bring hardware to the table. Lots and lots of possibilty for him and has big promotion. Likes to brawl and great confidence. Might go by quick but should be fun to watch.
I think Bradley could beat him. I'd have my heart in my mouth as long as it lasted if Khan took that fight. I actually think stylistically he has a better chance of beating Khan than anyone else does at 140. I could see Khan beating Bradley but being KO'd by Rios, whilst I'd go with Bradley to outpoint Rios down the stretch.Quote:

I think Rios is garbage. Zero skills, no speed, stamina is suspect, he gets whooped on as soon as he steps up to the elite.
He has the style to make any fight he is in exciting because he is all pressure....Spicoli mentioned it best when he stated just how long can he keep this style up?....It has been my experience that guys like Rios once stopped for the first time develope soft spots easy to be exposed by top fighters...EG-Edison Miranda...Exciting come forward fighter that once stopped has been stopped by others in much easier fashion.....Quote:

If Rios does not tweak his style with needed improvements guys who can box well and deal with pressure will eat him up and fold him like paper even ones who do not punch overly hard
