shock....mayorga is in shape
Here's a link 2 a pic of mayorga showing he's in pretty gd shape considering how much extra inches he showed around his belly in a pic just after the fight was announced..he must have trained like a demon...

He's been busted for using a diuretic before, but I'll give him the benefit of the doubt unless tests show otherwise.
I wonder more about his stamina at 154, losing that weight ain't easy.

Not sure it's like that anymore with Manny in his corner... no way the old man will let Cotto bask in the sun.

Re: shock....mayorga is in shape
Out of all the bs mayorga has spread in the lead up to this fight. The only think i belive is when he said this is one of only five times in his career he's trained 100%. Balking at the staredown shows that cotto semi getting caught up in ricardo's mind games and antics almost worked. Now cotto could care less. Mayorga usually puts up a decent fight. But he'll get spanked. He may win one or two rounds but cotto should have no problem once he gets used to his wild punches and style.

You, unlike that girl on the toilet taking a dump in your sig, are FULL OF CRAP !!! ;D
Mayorga is going to do more than win a round or two. For Christ Sakes Mayorga won 5 rounds against Sugar Shane Mosley. Its going to be a competitive fight. Could very well be a shoot out. Cotto is getting knocked down.

by his own corner when they're celebrating his brutal KO victory over Mayorga hahaha

Re: shock....mayorga is in shape
Cotto would be well suited to focus souly on that body. Looks good but still cut off alot and cannot undo that lifestyle. I wonder about Mayorgas raw physicality effect on Cotto early as much as actual punches.
-
Re: shock....mayorga is in shape
The only way Mayorga beats Cotto is if Cotto is shot to bits, which is a real possibility. Still, I think Cotto wins by TKO.
-
Re: shock....mayorga is in shape
I love how half this forum were picking Yuri Foreman to beat Cotto yet Mayorga, oh no, he has no chance !
Very intelligent boxing fans...
This is a good competitive fight. Cotto should be favored 60-40, but no more than that.
Mayorga has got the power, the size, and the unorthodox style to beat Cotto.

For what it's worth, I picked Cotto to shit-hammer Foreman. There is one similarity between these two fights though - the outcome is predicated upon how much Cotto has left.
I think Mayorga will be able to land a couple of those wild, looping punches of his before Cotto adapts to his style, the question - in my mind - is will Cotto be able to withstand them while breaking Mayorga down.
A near-prime Cotto would just fucking mangle Mayorga though IMO.

A prime Cotto? Which one is that? The one that got wobbled and stunned at light welter or the one that got beat up and quit at welter? Or maybe this one. The one that wan a title when his opponents leg gave way?
Mayorga on the other hand. He beat the pound for pound best fighter in the world, absolutely walked through him. The same fighter he beat was the only man to have Shane on the verge of being stopped! Mayorga can actually say he has beaten a top pound for pound fighter and has been the best in his weight division. Cotto can't say the same about himself and if they did fight in their respective primes it would be Mayorga who would splatter Cotto. In fact the 38 year old version is still going to do it and then you'd see what he would have done in his prime;D

Re: shock....mayorga is in shape
I have no idea why this fight is making the Cotto fans froth at the mouth so much. It's been like that in each of the threads I have read. You mention the word Mayorga and suddenly posters are infected with rabies. A quite peculiar phenomenon. The hate for anyone that supports Mayorga is almost as bad as the stuff Mayorga says to hype his fights! ;D
I totally agree with the sentiments espoused by Hulk, Mayorga is a very live underdog and though I am making no bold proclamations, I think Mayorga is going to put up a very valid showing. It will be wonderful to see him pull off the upset at 36/37. If not then at least he'll go down fighting. He always comes to fight and you can ask for no more than that really.

Someone has to speak up for Cotto, because all he's been doing is laying low, and looking scared in pics. :p

Re: shock....mayorga is in shape
MAYORGA IS LIKE THOSE OLD TIME FIGHTERS who go out on their shields. at the least this is what will happen. he has pride, you'll never see him take a knee like cotto did against margarito. he wqould rather lose his knee caps than take a knee. that bravery is why i think he has a good chance to win.
cotto's brains are too scrambled, he got hit even by foreman with some real scramblers--i saw a few straight rights that did more damage than all of margarito's cement fists. cotto is an old 30 year old. mayorga is a young 37 yr old. nod: mayorga.

Was Vernon Forrest really considered the P4P #1 when Mayorga beat him? Honest question.

At least Cottos fans will be able to see him on the Ricky Martin tour after this fight, dont be too sad Cotto fans.

Is that Cotto in the black tank top? ;D

HE has got more than a punchers chance for sure.

Getting ready for the tour.

Re: shock....mayorga is in shape
I still really and truly believe that Cotto is gonna end this fight in tears.
-
Re: shock....mayorga is in shape
I also think a few people are underestimating Mayorga's potential to give Cotto trouble...
You would assume Cotto will be more slick and intelligent fighting under Mannny, which I really think he needs to be... He needs to outbox Mayorga,,, counter precisely and make Mayorga's wild punches look even more wild... If those things are landing all night though, Cotto will put up a fight and look much classier than his opponent, but he'll have some seriously troubled rounds..

He will actually be 38 2 days before the fight, even better;)

Yes.
Mosley was number 1 and Vernon smashed him up twice! Go to 6 minutes in to this video;)

Now look what Mayorga did to that same fighter. Just an absolute wild animal that Cotto wouldnt have wanted any part of;)

Ultimate piss take, smoking at the end there. Can't believe HBO would actually instigate that!!! :o
I mean seriously, every part of my wants to cynically respond to my own comment with a rye ''Actually yes I can''... But I really cant!! That is fucked up! :-\

I've seen both fights. I just never knew that Forrest was considered the P4P #1 afterward beating Mosley.
As for Mayorga, few people would consider him being a better fighter than Cotto prime for prime. His wins over Forrest are impressive, but that's the only victory he has had against a high-level opponent (I don't think the Vargas that Mayorga fought counts as an elite fighter). Cotto has a better resume and he's a much more skilled fighter.

If Mayorga wants to look like an asshole and have the spotlight Miguel will oblige him and let him have it all to himself.....Cotto is going to bust Mayorga up big time. Cotto will use defense and counter Mayorga early and then just break him down late in the fight it COULD go the distance but if Cotto sticks to the body I doubt it will

Me neither. Must have come as a shocker to Jones, Barrera and Hopkins :-X

Re: shock....mayorga is in shape
Forrest was never the no. 1 p4p. Just because you beat the no.1 p4p doesn't mean you get the mythical title, let's make that clear. Would De La Hoya been p4p no.1 if he had beat Floyd or Manny? Of course not, same thing with Hatton.
Boxing News - Boxing Results - Boxing Schedule - Boxing Rankings - Boxing - Pound for Pound History | Awards
Forrest was top 5 at 1 time, but no.1 p4p? Never.

Mayoprga is not a regular smoker...He has a history of making it a point to be seen with not only a cig but a beer in hand as well when he is preparing for upcoming bouts...It is a mind game of his....If anyone remembers after he stopped Forrest the first thing he did was call for a cig from his team....Yet when you watched him he did not even inhale

I am not a fan of either fighter but I will go with Cotto on this one.
In fact, I am so confident of a Cotto win that if he loses I will not be posting in this forum for 7 days. Oh wait, I have already been doing this and nobody cares.
