    Very intelligent boxing fans...

This is a good competitive fight. Cotto should be favored 60-40, but no more than that.

Mayorga has got the power, the size, and the unorthodox style to beat Cotto.
For what it's worth, I picked Cotto to shit-hammer Foreman. There is one similarity between these two fights though - the outcome is predicated upon how much Cotto has left.

I think Mayorga will be able to land a couple of those wild, looping punches of his before Cotto adapts to his style, the question - in my mind - is will Cotto be able to withstand them while breaking Mayorga down.

A near-prime Cotto would just fucking mangle Mayorga though IMO.

A prime Cotto? Which one is that? The one that got wobbled and stunned at light welter or the one that got beat up and quit at welter? Or maybe this one. The one that wan a title when his opponents leg gave way?

Mayorga on the other hand. He beat the pound for pound best fighter in the world, absolutely walked through him. The same fighter he beat was the only man to have Shane on the verge of being stopped! Mayorga can actually say he has beaten a top pound for pound fighter and has been the best in his weight division. Cotto can't say the same about himself and if they did fight in their respective primes it would be Mayorga who would splatter Cotto. In fact the 38 year old version is still going to do it and then you'd see what he would have done in his prime

I have no idea why this fight is making the Cotto fans froth at the mouth so much. It's been like that in each of the threads I have read. You mention the word Mayorga and suddenly posters are infected with rabies. A quite peculiar phenomenon. The hate for anyone that supports Mayorga is almost as bad as the stuff Mayorga says to hype his fights!

I totally agree with the sentiments espoused by Hulk, Mayorga is a very live underdog and though I am making no bold proclamations, I think Mayorga is going to put up a very valid showing. It will be wonderful to see him pull off the upset at 36/37. If not then at least he'll go down fighting. He always comes to fight and you can ask for no more than that really.

Someone has to speak up for Cotto, because all he's been doing is laying low, and looking scared in pics.

If Mayorga wants to look like an asshole and have the spotlight Miguel will oblige him and let him have it all to himself.....Cotto is going to bust Mayorga up big time. Cotto will use defense and counter Mayorga early and then just break him down late in the fight it COULD go the distance but if Cotto sticks to the body I doubt it will

Forrest was never the no. 1 p4p. Just because you beat the no.1 p4p doesn't mean you get the mythical title, let's make that clear. Would De La Hoya been p4p no.1 if he had beat Floyd or Manny? Of course not, same thing with Hatton.

Forrest was top 5 at 1 time, but no.1 p4p? Never.

I agree Forrest was never the #1 P4P fighter....Especially when you look back at his resume before the Mosley fight, the wins after the mosley fight and the other fighters going in the top at that time no way Forrest made #1....top 5 yes #1 no

MAYORGA IS LIKE THOSE OLD TIME FIGHTERS who go out on their shields. at the least this is what will happen. he has pride, you'll never see him take a knee like cotto did against margarito. he wqould rather lose his knee caps than take a knee. that bravery is why i think he has a good chance to win.

cotto's brains are too scrambled, he got hit even by foreman with some real scramblers--i saw a few straight rights that did more damage than all of margarito's cement fists. cotto is an old 30 year old. mayorga is a young 37 yr old. nod: mayorga.

Was Vernon Forrest really considered the P4P #1 when Mayorga beat him? Honest question.

    Yes.

Mosley was number 1 and Vernon smashed him up twice! Go to 6 minutes in to this video

Now look what Mayorga did to that same fighter. Just an absolute wild animal that Cotto wouldnt have wanted any part of

Ultimate piss take, smoking at the end there. Can't believe HBO would actually instigate that!!!

I mean seriously, every part of my wants to cynically respond to my own comment with a rye ''Actually yes I can''... But I really cant!! That is fucked up!

I've seen both fights. I just never knew that Forrest was considered the P4P #1 afterward beating Mosley.

As for Mayorga, few people would consider him being a better fighter than Cotto prime for prime. His wins over Forrest are impressive, but that's the only victory he has had against a high-level opponent (I don't think the Vargas that Mayorga fought counts as an elite fighter). Cotto has a better resume and he's a much more skilled fighter.
