How shot is shane Mosley? Why is he considered to be in "good Shape" and ready now?
Who here thinks Shane Mosley is completely shot or close to it? Why is he considered to be in good shape now for Pac? But when Floyd fought him it was he was too old, shot, and over the hill.
So what does that make Shane now? So how can this version of shane be considered better than the one Floyd fought?

Who said that ? i think Shane Mosley is way past his best. He didn't look good vs Sergio Mora, and has been very hot/cold for atleast 5 years.
Just compare the Shane Mosley now, to the Lightweight version of Shane Mosley. Who was a complete fighting machine who could fight hard for 12 rounds.

Re: How shot is shane Mosley? Why is he considered to be in "good Shape" and ready n
I don't think he's shot so much simply not what he once was. Last two styles plays part to. He's not going to have to chase Manny. He's not getting wobbled but if his chin is shot, we'll see it and have many more punching oppurtunies here.

General, I felt Shane was a bit past it when he fought Floyd and I feel the same way now. I do feel though that his fight with Pac could be fun to watch, but I don't feel Shane is the best opponent available for Pac right now. But, let's be honest, Shane is a well-recognized welterweight, and Pac is a star, it'll be a big money fight. The main redeeming thing to me is that Pac is literally cleaning out the welterweight division other than Floyd. If he fought Berto, he literally would have beat every top welterweight out there other than Floyd. I do hope Pac takes on a more viable opponent next.

Re: How shot is shane Mosley? Why is he considered to be in "good Shape" and ready n
Mosley would have always had troubles against Floyd or even Sergio Mora. His style isn't effective against boxers with a good jab, and if they are strong enough to stand up to him. But let's be honest he controlled that fight against Mora, and should have won that fight in a relative landslide. He landed way more, he was the aggressor, and he should have won. Is he what he once was? No, but I think he's better at some things and worse at others. In total he is a little deminished, but I think while he is a little slower that he is physically stronger and smarter as a fighter. No way do I see a younger Mosley doing what he did to Margarito.
If anything Mosley looked better against Margarito then Pacquiao did. He stopped Margarito, got hit less, was never hurt, and his punches effected Margarito more. That's why I think this is such an interesting fight. Manny can't bottle Mosley up the same way Floyd did, Floyd was taking away Mosley initiative with his innate defensive skills and his ability to slow the tempo to the pace he likes. Manny will have to try and outgun Mosley which is a task much harder then anything he has experienced recently and maybe even ever. I don't think Mosley needs to have the same type of reaction speed against Manny as he did against Floyd, this will be more of a tit-for-tat type fight where both guys will be hit, both have great chins, and the winner will be decided on whether Mosley who hits harder will be able to effect Pacquiao who hits more.

Re: How shot is shane Mosley? Why is he considered to be in "good Shape" and ready n
I don't think Shane is as shot as people make him out to be. It's just his last few opponents styles carried the fight.
Mayorga - Wild punches and reckless. Luckily Shane caught him at the last second, cause my card did not favor Mosley.
Margarito - Straight forward. BULL!!! Mosley fought smart. Punch and hold, until he rocked Margarito.
Mayweather - Floyd makes every fighter he fight, seem amatuer flawed.
Mora - Bounce and afraid to engage. But upclose, Mora was landed the more solid shots.(watch the fight) But it wasn't nearly enough.
Now . . .
Pacman ? He a bull too. Coming straight forward. See above!!!
I like Mosley chances.
Whats the odds against Mosley? I gotta catch a flight to Vegas;D

You can spin it all you want, Mosley is shot.
-
Re: How shot is shane Mosley? Why is he considered to be in "good Shape" and ready n
Shane is definitely past it. Being past it doesn't mean he is a bum...but he no longer has the legs or stamina. You can talk all about the match up styles of his recent fights...but the big thing i see, is that Shane starts gassing out my the middle rounds. His output drops considerably as the fight progresses recently.

I like your take on it.
I think Shane will get timed more easily by Manny coming forward and will be jolted a few times and tko'd mid rounds 8th.

Re: How shot is shane Mosley? Why is he considered to be in "good Shape" and ready n
I can't stand Mayweather but think Mosley was actually one of the bigger more 'live' physical threats he's faced. Much respect for win......Vivian Harris= shot.....Shane Mosley.....39 yrs old
-
Re: How shot is shane Mosley? Why is he considered to be in "good Shape" and ready n
No fighter pushing 40 is anywhere near their best and I include Hopkins in that too. Anyone expecting the Mosley of the 1st DLH fight is out of their minds, but I haven't really seen that being suggested. Mayweather fought an old, inactive Mosley and Pac is fighting an even older Mosley. Pac's fight has even less lustre because of how Mosley has been looking following that long lay off.
Still, I will be there hoping for a homerun from Shane.
-
Re: How shot is shane Mosley? Why is he considered to be in "good Shape" and ready n
It's all marketing. After floyd everyone said he was shot and old, hell that was even some of the reasons pac's camp gave for not fighting him. Not the fight beteween those two is made and some guy who couldn't beat who brian vera could is so called comp. how quick things change.
-
Re: How shot is shane Mosley? Why is he considered to be in "good Shape" and ready n
I believe Shane is shot or else he wouldn't have taken this fight after the Mayweather and the Mora fights. Not that in the Mora fight, he couldn't stretch himself down to the end and "get a draw" but basically b'cause in either of his last two fights, he hasn't shown the 3 minutes round activity to compete at at all time and in every single moment, and he would have to against Manny. Therefore I think it is legitimate to say that he's in there for the payday as much as Clottey and Margarito were. seeing basically from the Mayweather fight, he's basically spent to be only holding his ground for more than half of each round and that is hardly what would be asked of him for this.
-
Re: How shot is shane Mosley? Why is he considered to be in "good Shape" and ready n
Anyone Floyd fights is shot.....if Pac fights them they are prime. Once Pac loses to Floyd these forums will be ghost ville. Either that or at least the Pac ball huggers will have to do more then worship there Pac shrine. They may actually have to read, watch fights, look at stats, and become unbiased.
-
Re: How shot is shane Mosley? Why is he considered to be in "good Shape" and ready n
Based of the Margarito fight, you would say he was in good shape for that... And definitely not shot...
But was rubbish against Mayweather...
Roach said he should hang him up, then booked a fight with him... Stupid...
Here is my honest observation, if Mosley was for real on the Mayweather fight, then I don't consider he would be in "good shape" now... I havn't actually seen anyone really say they consider him in good shape now...
BUTTTTTTT, I believe there is a 10% chance the plan was to lose against Mayweather,,,, the same way I believe probably 40% that ODLH planned to lose against Mayweather...
If that is the case, then Mosley could be back to close to Margarito standards...
I think he's aged though and isn't going to show the breakneck speed he had in the past, and probably won't take the beatings as amazing as he has... But he'll still be able to land some hellish blows on Pac...
It's all about what was going on in the Mayweather fight... Whether that was him at his best.. etc etc...
Then of course you could add in the drug debate, and that he's not getting the same testing vs Pac that he did Mayweather..
He's really an unknown quantity in my book... But i'd lean towards the downward slope in all honesty... And will find it hard to look like a fresh fighter against Pac..

And that is where Pac's strength is... He'll go blow for blow the first couple of rounds.. He slowly gains in pace and learns the timing of his opponent.. And the second the start to slow or get a tiny bit sloppy with their attack, he nails the shit out of them.. The second he starts to make them miss alot as the rounds go on, he nails the shit out of them...
Mosley got no chance... Good shape or not, he's got 6 rounds to take control of the fight, but as much as on paper and theory you can say how he will be a strong opponent, I think 12 rounds and 6 of them in the second half of the fight, is too many rounds for Pac to learn and slaughter Shane's style..
That's simply how I see it..

Right on. This supposedly 'shot' Mosley is probably still good enough to beat 80-90% of the welterweights out there. Is he an elite fighter anymore? Most likely not, although the old dog occasionally has one more trick up his sleeve. But he's no pushover for anyone, period. He managed to rock one of the best defensive fighters on the planet before Floyd adjusted and Shane gassed. If that's shot, I want in.

Exactly. definitely way past his prime but still a threat vs anyone at welter. Shane might have lost his stamina and some speed but his power and chin is there and bringing in the fact that he is bigger than PAC equalizes the playing field. We are not talking about Tata Baldomir here who is indeed durable but old and absolutely no power.

First and foremost nobody said Shane is in his prime or is in better shape now than when he fought Floyd, rehashing my older posts PAC being the smaller man in most of his fights that alone levels the playing field or actually gives an edge to his opponents so this is a fair fight IMO.

Re: How shot is shane Mosley? Why is he considered to be in "good Shape" and ready n
Shane is not shot, the Margarito performance can testify to that, that performance was like the early 2000 but that was more to do with styles and circumstances for the outstanding win. He shook Floyd like no other and is dangerous. Holyfield is shot, Shane is not. yet.

Yep styles makes fights too, Shane lost to boxers like Forrest, Wright, Mora and Mayweather. PAC is a scrapper at heart this is a different case:)

Come on Master...
ODLH not only was he shot but was a fucking corpse making 145.
ODLH in his prime was a Welter that was in the late 90's.
Hatton no, Cotto no. Anyone else?

Re: How shot is shane Mosley? Why is he considered to be in "good Shape" and ready n
Shane was only momentarily shot, he's back now, he was playing shot. He felt sorry for Mora and even though he really won, he just didnt complain because he was getting the same money anyways...He just wanted to rock Mayweather to let him know that he could have taken him at any time......Mayweather obviously paid him off to take a dive, see how he eased up after he rocked him, he was like oh damn I might actually knock him out accidentally and lose my money.
-
Re: How shot is shane Mosley? Why is he considered to be in "good Shape" and ready n
I think Mosley was not shot when he fought Floyd. He looked slow, past his prime, and too old just because Floyd made him looked that way. It was Floyd's skill that made Mosley a shell of his former self on the ring that night.
When Mosley fought Cotto, it was also Cotto's skill that outclassed him. When he fought Margarito, he knew his skill will be perfect for Margo, and he proved everyone that its the truth.
Now he's fighting Manny, and I guess this will be an all out aggression from start to finish because both guys love to bring it on. The question is, will Mosley's skill be effective against pacman, and vice versa? That will make this fight interesting.

I'd normally agree because Floyd can do that to an opponent. But Shane was blowing out of his arse after 3 rounds gasping for air.
Mosley won't be effective against Pacquiao if he shows up with the same conditioning because Pacquiao will make Mosley move much more than Mayweather did. That's why i don't think it's an interesting fight. Shane is coming towards the end of his career. His conditioning isn't likely to get any better.
Conditioning aside, his form has been erratic for the last 4 or so years anyway. I just don't see him troubling Pacqiao at all. He could get lucky i suppose, but so could any fighter. I think he will get dominated and probably stopped on his feet.

Re: How shot is shane Mosley? Why is he considered to be in "good Shape" and ready n
mosley is past his prime a long long time ago. its kinda funny to see a shot mosley nearly KO pbf.
pac mosley fight will only mean something to me if pac beats the hell out of mosley. kinda like hatton pbf 10 rd tko vs hatton pac 2 rd ko or odlh pbf SD vs odlh pac 9 rd tko.
general,
A lot of Floyd haters and Pac lovers said that
are they from saddo or pacland or some other box forum?

Which Manny fans are you referring to? I don't seem to see any of them posting this.
Shane is shot when he faced Floyd and is still shot when he faces Manny. Anyone who Manny fights that does not have the name Mayweather will be questioned. So in the absence of Floyd, Manny might as well fight someone who will give him the most reward and include a notable name in his resume. Remember that he had just been in a brutal conflict with Margarito so he deserves a break (not literally). I still consider Shane as formidable. He can still be competitive with a number of the top boxers in his division.

Re: How shot is shane Mosley? Why is he considered to be in "good Shape" and ready n
Get dominated by Mayweather after the second round of their affair... So then what does he do? He calls out a guy that will do even more damage. Smart. Mosley is shot, gun-shy and punchy. He should already be retired. He already is having trouble annunciating his words... so why not get in the ring with an animal.
The fight should have never been made. No offense to Pacquiao. Pac will beat whoever they put in front of him but this is just another promotional farse.

... for the MONEY. This will be a very hefty retirement pay for Mosley. I still think that Shane believes he is capable of pulling an upset with one lucky punch or a few well-placed punches. Besides, when he realizes that the fight is indeed not winnable, he can always escape the carnage by doing what Barrera (in Pacquiao-Barrera II) and Clottey did.

Yes, it is. We have certain boxers that we would rather have Manny face. I prefer that he fights Berto. But we can be sure that Pacquiao-Mosley will garner more viewership and cash than anyone else (besides Mayweather). The general public prefers two notable protagonist.
