Vitali Klitschko 249.5 - Odlanier Solis 246.9
Well....all I've got to say to Solis is
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=egX9N8yOgaU
You may start out fat and happy, but you're going to end up swole, bruised, and KTFO
Vitali KO/TKO 7, only of course if Solis can take a punch

Here's an idea of what Solis will see when he gets stopped

Re: Vitali Klitschko 249.5 - Odlanier Solis 246.9
Vitali looks good, but only compared to Solis.
In truth I think he is starting to look like an old fighter. One weigh in isn't a lot to go off but in the pictures that I have seen he looks softer in the body and tireder in the face...
He's never looked as good as Wlad, but there is a definite decline visualy in him, today at least.
Will be interesting to see if he's overtrained/under trained or is just getting old.
Oh and shame on Solis... The biggest fight of his life against one of the best, of not the best fighter in the division and he shows up looking like a marshmallow...
What a joke this sport can be at times...
I've heard of a hungry fighter... This guy gives it a different meaning
-
Re: Vitali Klitschko 249.5 - Odlanier Solis 246.9
Vitali looks in good shape...I mean I've seen him look better, but I've seen him look the same as well. 249-250 is a good size for him, and remember The Klitschko's train for certain styles, they add or drop weight based on their training. At 249 I think Vitali is looking to be more physical, to impose his will.
Solis is just plain fat...right now, sitting at my job, having not trained at all in the past few months, and noting that I am roughly the same height as Solis and I probably am in better shape than he is.
As a Klitschko fan it pisses me off the lack of respect their opponents give them. It all started with Kirk Johnson, everyone since then for Vitali has been out of shape and just not given a solid account of themselves in the ring and that's a tragedy for boxing. Everyone since the Byrd rematch for Wlad hasn't given a truly good go, bar Sam Peter who was just outclassed as a boxer. At least Sam Peter came to fight Wladimir in shape...Solis is pathetic!
-
Anyone got any pics of the weigh in?
-
Re: Vitali Klitschko 249.5 - Odlanier Solis 246.9
Solis is at his lowest weight in a while. Usually, he fights above 260. And he's 6'1! It probably indicates he's been training hard.
-
Re: Vitali Klitschko 249.5 - Odlanier Solis 246.9
On Ringside last night Vitali was in t-shirt Solis was wearing big deceiving jacket -BIG give away, i turned to my girlfriend and said can guarantee Solis is not in shape. (yeah yeah i know lucky girl gets to watch the boxing too! ;D)
Solis has a solid pedigree though, i admit i have not seen him fight but i have read up on him and i think he beat Haye in the amateurs (world championships?) that might not count for much now but if he is as good as some people have said perhaps now is the time to show it
-
Re: Vitali Klitschko 249.5 - Odlanier Solis 246.9
When you still look like that after losing a stone you know its bad. Theres absolutely no excuse at his height for weighing in anywhere over around 220lbs. Dudes carrying around 2 stone of unecessary fat in the biggest fight of his life. Think how much a 2 stone backpack weighs you down if you have to run about and be active whilst a guy is trying to punch you in the face. He deserves to lose for this alone.

Granted Solis beat Felix Savon like 2 times, but hell Audley Harrison is a "gold medal winner" look what it's done for him in the pros. It's a different ball game and Solis is going to get savaged.

Re: Vitali Klitschko 249.5 - Odlanier Solis 246.9
To be fair, 246lbs aint a bad weight for Solis. I mean like his promoter says, he's very broad across the chest.
-
You can't always judge fitness by appearance. I'm 6' tall, weigh 260lbs (when I'm in shape, currently injured), and I'm always overweight (at least 15-20lbs). I can work all day (utility worker, lots and lots of digging), out work all my friends in the gym, do more push ups and sit ups than guy half my size, then wrestle with a fresh guy until he gets tired.
Some people just have a fat body type.
-
I'm definately not sleeping on solis in this fight.

Re: Vitali Klitschko 249.5 - Odlanier Solis 246.9
I wouldn't confuse being in shape for recreational gym/grappling training with being in shape for a profesional heavyweight contest at the elitest level... ;)
You might feel in shape for what you do... but if you had to output that high an ammount of strength and energy for a sustained ammount of time in the gym... and every time you took your foot off the pedal for a second Vitali Klitscho ran over and smacked you one - you'd probably not feel as well conditioned as you do ripping out a few press ups! :p
We're talking about boxing here... and if it's not a lack of talent... it will be the ammount of extra dead weight he carries that will be his undoing.
You don't need to tell me that looks and size are not the best way to judge somebody's fitness... but even if Solis was ripped a 250-270 at 6 foot 1, he'd still be too big to be effective for a sustained time... it's only gonna get worse when the level he fights at gets better
The fact that it's dead weight just makes it worse.
He's at a career low... or just about, so he's probably put more work in than usual... but too little too late
He should always be in relativly good shape... and after training like a mother fucker he should now be in unbelievable condition... not 'a few pounds lighter'
He's not 'just naturally fat'
He came from Cuba... defected to become a pro and couldn't moderate himself very well with the sudden influx of freedom and $$$

From what I've heard he needed to spend less time blowing money in strip clubs and god knows on what else (food being an obvious one) and more time on the road and in the gym.
The fact that he's got his weight down shows he has his act together a little bit at least... but too late in my opinion.
I'm not wrtting him off in this fight completely.. Vitali is starting to look old, but tbh I still expect him to fuck solis up.

Good post ;)
Solis should be a very tough opponent for Klitschko compared to some of his opponents but like you say training harder than usual for this fight might be too little too late.
If you are a lot over weight it's easy to drop the pounds because there's so much excess.
still im looking forward to this, it's a heavyweight title fight! :)

I don't disagree with you, and my I'm not trying to imply I could go a few rounds with any pro athlete, and I wasn't aiming that at you. It seems many are writing him off as out of shape, based purely on looks, which is retarded. If he's an undefeated pro and 4 time amateur world champion, I'm guessing he's in shape for boxing, despite looks.

Re: Vitali Klitschko 249.5 - Odlanier Solis 246.9
Been dwelling on this one. Solis strikes me as a spoiled over stuffed toddler. I think it'll be very interesting to see what will happen if or when .....no if he can get those fast hands in combination with power moving. Looks like a hard guy to 'hurt' or move. The ultimate crossroads fight this one. Vitali is keeping a very fast schedule and is long in the tooth. Gun to my head.....I think Solis scores a standing tko in a stunner. Of course I also said Solis had a shit sloth attitude and fights like hes doing us a favor, would be a bust two months ago :p
-
....You must be shrooming
Solis had trouble with Ray Austin (the guy Wlad Klitschko KO'd in 2 without throwing 1 right hand) and he's been hurt by the British Babbler (aka the WBA title holder) and you think Vitali is just going to allow Solis to catch him much less hurt him?!?!
Vitali nails Solis early and picks him apart. Sure Solis will be dangerous early, but having lost all that weight I'm betting his punch resistance will be hurt.

Won't defend Austin for a second, was a farce of a 'eliminator'. Don't think Austin gave the trouble so much as Solis just fighting like a bloated slob on cruise control. They are their to be put together, biggest question with him is motivation far as I see. If he fights like that here....he'll regret it very true. Vitali dont have to be concussed to be hurt, just caught often, cut up and working that rigid older frame.
Solis hurt by the Tin-man ??? Dude you going back to the ama's?
-
....Well its not like Solis has been in with anyone dangerous in the pros.
I am however very interested in how Povetkin would fair vs Solis and the WBA title holder.
Vitali is going to cruise because he's always in shape and well prepared...that makes his fights easier.
-
Re: Vitali Klitschko 249.5 - Odlanier Solis 246.9
I hope Vitali stomps all over him. Vitali might be getting on, but he is my favourite Klitschko any day of the week and he is simply too big and well conditioned for any other contemporary heavyweight to give him any problems. I hope we get a late career vintage stoppage win and send Solis back to Burger King where he belongs.

i hope he retires before he loses to someone who isnt in his league (and probably someone who isnt even marketable enough to benefit the sport)

I think Vitali will retire after the Adamek fight unless something crazy happens. There's just no one left for him to fight and the goal of the Klitschko's holding all of the heavyweight titles should be achieved by then so there you go and the next "big" heavyweight fight will be Wlad-Povetkin.

id be ok with that, the adamek fight is the last fight id care to see him risk losing, and then the one last fight that poses any threat to wlad is povetkin
-
Well Wlad won't retire then he's got to cement his legacy as THE Champ and that could take a couple years.

Lyle as you well know I have a long documented history of hating the Klitschkos, but as I've mentioned before I do not much care for this fat lazy slob Solis either.
I'm torn on who to root for here a bit, I mean IF Solis was fighting any top heavy besides Klitschko, I'd root for the opponent.
BUT since its Vitali, and Solis is the underdog, so I'll be rooting for Solis.
He should do better than Peter did...

To be perfectly honest, I've been almost completely unimpressed with Vitali since his comeback. He looks old and slow, and he just doesn't look like the fighter he used to be (/obvious). He can hang with most HW's because the division is so incredibly shitty and he'll beat Adamek because Adamek is too small, but I think Haye would beat him pretty handily.

Re: Vitali Klitschko 249.5 - Odlanier Solis 246.9
why is every one writing off solis? i think he's probably the toughest opponent vitali has faced in a while he may not the best of the cuban bunch but he's faced some decent competition.
solis tko 10 ya i said it.

He weighed 200lbs when he won the olympics. A good weight for Solis would be 225-230lbs tops. He's not tall for a HW and having a broad chest doesn't make up for being a fat twat. At least he's down from 270lbs now though.

Maybe I shoulda made use of the sarcasm smiley ;D

Re: Vitali Klitschko 249.5 - Odlanier Solis 246.9
Solis' weight has come down but he still looks poorly conditioned for his biggest night. First time he's allowed himself to be photographed without wearing a massive coat covering his rings of fat. Vitali as ever has come in looking in exceptional shape. Quite impressive for a 40 year old. If he wins this one in style he deserves a fair bit of credit. IMO its his most dangerous test since Sanders. Whilst the safe bet is Vitali on points Ive got big respect for Cubans who can look terrible in 1 fight against a nobody but raise their game and outclass the best fighters next time out. Hope its a gooden.

Re: Vitali Klitschko 249.5 - Odlanier Solis 246.9
Vitali has slowed down and Price thinks Solis could pull the upset as he has trained to move around and cause Vitali problems.
-
Re: Vitali Klitschko 249.5 - Odlanier Solis 246.9
too much flab on solis right there for someone as lethal as vitali not to target
was hoping solis would come in around 220 and had actually taken his weight into consideration
the fact he has come in at 246 suggests that maybe even he believes his only chance here is with a lucky punch
-
Re: Vitali Klitschko 249.5 - Odlanier Solis 246.9
Good warm up fight for Vitali before the real test against Adamek, in September.

Price also said some days in sparring he thought Solis was world class and some days he felt that he (Price) was world class. And that tells me that Vitali is going to batter Solis...its all up to how much punishment Solis can take now.
