Haye: It's been confirmed, I'm fighting Wladimir

There was no way Wlad was pulling out of this fight and letting his brother demolish David Haye first.
Roll on July 2nd.

Re: Haye: It's been confirmed, I'm fighting Wladimir
Are we all willing him to fail? ;D

Re: Haye: It's been confirmed, I'm fighting Wladimir
I want a good fight..... a fight we'll be talking about for years. Is that too much to ask?
;D

Re: Haye: It's been confirmed, I'm fighting Wladimir
I'll believe it when I see them in the ring getting instructions from the ref.

He is, without doubt, one of the the most unpopular world champions we have ever had.
Wlad even picked up on it in his interview last week, claiming some Brits he was speaking to told him they wanted him to beat Haye and I don't even think he was making it up. If he asked me, I'd be wishing him the best of luck too. ;D

Unpopular was probably the wrong word...
He 'splits opinion' more than most.

Re: Haye: It's been confirmed, I'm fighting Wladimir
Haye is absoultely loved by the general public and media. He is one of the most popular champions i've ever seen. Only a small group of hardcore fans have a problem with him.

He may be popular in London, where you actually see his fans but hes not that well known a boxer. He doesnt get any exposure other than on sky.
If I were a promoter id have my fighters on talk shows and even cameos on the soaps, like Eastenders or Coronation Street, just so the general public become familiar with their names and may take an interest in watching them fight.
I see that Warren is desperately trying to recreate a rivalry like Benn v Eubank between Groves and DeGale but unless non sky subscribers get to see them in their build up, its not going to happen. People arent going to go out of their way to watch them if they have no clue who they are.
-
Re: Haye: It's been confirmed, I'm fighting Wladimir
I should have just said that all this build up in the boxing media, like ringside and the sport pages is like advertising a new beer in a pub. Youd have to already be a drinker to notice it.

David was on Celeb Millionare over Xmas......
No-one watched it but me but nonetheless he was on it
Long gone are the days of Benn - Eubank etc.
Groves v Degale is a cracking matchup but again joe public knows nothing about either.
For the record in that one...Degale schools him ;)

He's been on these shows numerous times plus LOADS of others. Can you get anymore mainstream in Britain? I don't think so.

Could we say the same if Khan had just won the Silver and Haye was where he was now?

Re: Haye: It's been confirmed, I'm fighting Wladimir
AS for Groves-DeGale. WE should just be thankful that they will fight. For every possible Benn-Eubank there are a dozen rivalries that never happen because of "politics" and waiting for them to become bigger names.
Benn-Eubank and days of 15 million terrestrial TV are LONG gone.

Big shame but your bang on mate...Miss those days :(
Who you picking out of Groves v Degale then.
Groves has been holding his own with Dirrell recently in Sparring over in the US
"Last week I told you all that George Groves would be checking in and sparring Andre Dirrell, and both guys have been getting on like a house on fire – in and out of the ring. Their sparring sessions are bringing everybody to a standstill in the gym and whenever those two step inside the ring it becomes a must-see event. Andre is starting to get his groove back and George is more than holding his own. They are sparring some really ferocious rounds at the moment and it's great to see."

They are the MOST watched talkshows in the ENTIRE country!!! How the fuck is that not mainstream?
Also - Haye is his own promoter. So you think he's failed because he hasn't secured a starring role in Corrie?

Re: Haye: It's been confirmed, I'm fighting Wladimir
Was well impressed with JD last time out and really think he'll tame then school him..

DeGale has looked real class in last couple of fights. Groves defense and chin has started to look a bit dodgy. However, he still has the am win over DeGale and clearly won the war of the words.
I think DeGale will win. But not certain. Might have a couple of bob on Groves if the odds are right ;)

Re: Haye: It's been confirmed, I'm fighting Wladimir
i hope Haye pulls this off, I was secretly hoping Vitali would fight him as Haye stands a better chance of outboxing him. Wlad has a pile driver of a jab and his defence has improved so do not think Haye will get through and if he does try he is liable to get knocked out.

Totally disagree.
Haye has a better chance against Wlad than he does against Vitali.
Haye should be thanking his lucky stars that Wladimir is fit because, if he hasn't, Vitali would be the one shattering Haye's dream of unifying the division.

Re: Haye: It's been confirmed, I'm fighting Wladimir
c`mon the hayemaker
anyone who has any affiliation to heavyweight boxing should be on their prayer mats right now begging for a haye win
i dont like the guy and i hate his work ethic (fights once a year, only has had 20 something contests, is already talking retirement this year) but it would be fantastic for the sport to see the eastern european reign ended with a big ko

David Haye is without doubt one of the most popular sportsmen in the country right now and IF he beats Wlad and becomes recognised as "THE" Heavyweight champion of the world that popularity will treble without doubt. Haye has all the things going for him that he needs. He's apparently easy on the eyes for the ladies, he's got the potential to Knock any man in the world out with one punch, which always benefits you in this game, and though Wlad also has this quality he isn't willing to use it as much as Haye and that is why he is quite an unpopular champion in truth. He just doesn't take the risks and make the fights interesting and exciting.
Finally love him or hate him David Haye can sell a fight and trash talk with the best of them, which is why he is such a PPV hit in this country. He is a thoroughly marketable fighter that is finally meeting his potential. Should Haye beat Wlad Britain will have a major superstar with the world at his feet and I just cannot see a man with that potential retiring!
-
Re: Haye: It's been confirmed, I'm fighting Wladimir
For the sake of the HW division, I hope it's not a blowout either way. I hope it's an exciting, give-and-take fight, with both sides doing the giving AND the taking. I hope their respective chins hold up for at least a good 8-10 rounds, and not give out before that. I would HATE for either fighter to land a haymaker (no pun intended) and end the fight in the first 2-3 rounds.
If it's an exciting fight..... the public may even demand a rematch.
:)

I disagree but I hope you are right.

Once again I'll say....its a criminally easy fight for Wlad. I'll be happy if Wlad gets credit but I'll be shocked if the first solid jab that Wlad lands doesn't buckle the legs of the WBA title holder, and lord have mercy when the right cross lands....I think even if the WBA title holder blocks that it will knock him backwards.

I could not agree more about the end of the most boring heavyweight champion reign in recent memory. The Klitschkos have bored us for years now.
Haye better not pull out of this fight.

Everything you've said would indicate that the opposite is true.
