Who is your favourite superhero?
I would have to say that my favourite superhero is Superman. He is just perfect. He is handsome, well mannered, extremely intelligent, sensitive and above all else, he can fly. Who hasn't had a dream where they are flying? Superman kicks all those other superheroes into touch IMO. He has the most sublime of abilities and is just so nice to boot. I would love to sit down and have a chat with Superman.
My only fault with him is that he is politically naive. I would introduce him to some Chomsky lectures, but beyond that he is the perfect superhero.
Thoughts?

Re: Who is your favourite superhero?
Nobody can be a true hero who originated in a children's comic.
My hero would be Gannicus, the supreme Gladiator extraordinaire from Spartacus Blood and Sands.
He's more handsome than Superman, way buffer. He would fucking destroy Lois Lane and all of her friends to boot. He isn't rendered helpless when someone exposes him to some green rocks and he's mortal, without ridiculous superhuman powers that make easy anything he chooses to do.
He can't fly, but then he wouldn't want to. He's a gladiator, flesh, bone and bravery. He takes his challenges head on, to the death, with just his sword. No unfair advantages, no silly hair curl or ridiculous fancy dress costume. He might wear a cape, but only on certain occasions, and it never looks silly.

Re: Who is your favourite superhero?
Why would he want to destroy Lois Lane? What did she ever do to him? I'm not having that. Scrap that, Superman isn't having that!
Sure, Superman can't see through lead and has issues with kryptonite, but he is a thoroughly good guy. Plus he has that duality of character that I am so taken with.
If you watch the Richard Donner cut you even see the parallels with that of the relationship between Jesus and God.
Superman could just fly into your guy and kill him before the sword is even raised. It would be like Pacquaio against Hatton. What you don't see really does kill you.

What can I say, he's a fine looking man.

You would like Superman wouldn't you miles seeing how he just denounced America....The super hero that always fought for "Truth, Justice, and the American way" will now apparently join the UN in their cries of "Give sanctions more time!"
BATMAN! The epitome of American exceptionalism! Brains, money, ingenuity, doesn't depend on the government to get the job done, oh and he's self policing and has a charitable heart to go along with his "Can do" attitude!
Superman cut me deep....I think The Justice League should throw him out and also I might add "Gee thanks Obama you turned Superman against us!"

Re: Who is your favourite superhero?
In terms of the basic principles of being a good person, Superman is the greatest. He is everything that everyone should aspire to be. He doesn't even look gay in that costume, he is just Superman. Christopher Reeve totally stole that role and made it his own. It was probably why that new superman film failed. Superman was rubbish and so was Lex Luthor. Kevin Spacey is usually good, but you just can't better what Hackman did. It's like trying to reinivent the wheel. Nobody is impressed, it has already been done.
They are making a new superman film now and I hear the villain is Zod. I kind of fear it because it just cannot match what was done before. They try because it is the Facebook age and people don't remember yesterday, but they will get it wrong. They always do.
-
Supposedly the new Zod is the FBI agent from Boardwalk Empire. Good pick imo, he's a good villain.

Perhaps, but the original was perfection. How can you better that or even have the confidence to try and compete with it?
I love Superman, but am of the mindset that only Christopher Reeve can play the guy. I don't see how anyone else can capture these characters.
Even Margot Kidder was the essence of Lois Lane.

Peter Stormare as Cavaldi in The Brothers Grimm.

Re: Who is your favourite superhero?
If I could be a superhero I would be Superman. Beyond being slightly more muscular than me, he has nothing on me intellectually. He also looks fantasic in his costume. If I was Superman I would clean up the world.

By the world do you mean the Israeli/Palastinian conflict?
I now have an image of an Assange/Norman Bates type dressed as Superman flying down the Gaza strip overturning Israeli boats and grabbing fighter planes and nose diving them into the sea..

Re: Who is your favourite superhero?
Superman can only ever be the moral force, so I could not direct him. He would know on his own what is right. Though politically speaking, his viewpoint's in the films were a bit weak.

That's true, he is Jewish after all. Surprising you'd admire him so.

Thor kicks Superman's ass if you know your comics. ;)

Re: Who is your favourite superhero?
Superman. He is awesome and pretty much unstoppable so I'd have to go with him. Also Batman is a close second although he doesn't have superpowers he is one bad ass dude which is potrayed well in the latest batman movies.

Re: Who is your favourite superhero?
If you watch the Donner cut of Superman 2, one of the people at Niagra falls does actually say "Of course he's Jewish". However, this is unlikely as he is an alien. He just happens to have dark, slightly wavy hair.
And yes I am not very muscular. I will probably start wearing underwear over my trousers in the home though.

Re: Who is your favourite superhero?
Holyhell I used to get a hard on for comics...back in the day...way back
RHINO....terribly underrated......Magneto...I mean imagine if you could manipulate metal, all forms?
She-Hulk...shes bad ass, buffed up, in a skimpy body suit, brunette and has a great since of humor. I'd like to date her more then I'd like to fuck her, just sayin

It will probably induce one of those "what is he doing now?" kind of looks. The great thing about Superman is that he simply did not look gay. He looks fantastic in his outfit, he is just Superman. A solid, reliable top notch kind of fellow.
As for the "American way". I think Superman himself represents a different kind of America. Certainly a more innocent pre 1960's version of America. A time before they started fabricating evidence to start wars and kill innocent people.
Superman himself wasn't American. He was much like Obama in that the birthers would probably have a field day with him. "He can't save American citizens, he doesn't even have a valid birth certificate". Sure he doesn't, but he is a living being with principles and values, the same kind of values that every decent person has. Obviously there are the deviants such as Luthor and Zod who disagree, but on the whole Superman was a remarkably human kind of alien.
I don't hate America, I just dislike a lot of the politics. In many respects I really admire America and this tends to get ignored. Superman is one of the great American creations.

Did you watch the video link I put up? Beyond doubt he's Jewish. I always assumed it just looking at him, just has a very Jewish feel about.
But he's not an Israeli so that's an important distinction to make. He's definitely not settlement building :p

Wow...this is what the hidden board has come to. Am I the only one who has noticed that somehow, some fucking way every thread has some sort of religious or political tone to it. I remember when this board use to be for fun (and porn...lots of porn) and now its really a political/religious battle ground.

I watched it, but it's clutching at straws to claim that an alien comic book character is a Jew. I don't sense anything Jewish about Superman beyond that curly bit in his hair.

Blame Bilbo. He's trying to say that my favourite superhero is a Jew.
It's just not fair. What next, Jaws was a Muslim? Frankenstein was a feminist? He's trying to dismantle my comfortable world view.

Actually this of the fault of posters like you and the rest of the forum.
Simply put, Miles and I are the only truly active posters on this board. Thus o 80% of the hidden board is him creating banal threads about his boring likes and dislikes, and me trying to wind him up politically to try and induce another breakdown for my amusement.
If other posters were more active and created their own threads the boards would have more content.
But moaning at my political religious rants, or Miles telling us about what brand of toothbrush he uses is not really fair as the rest of you aren't really posting anything at all!
If Miles and I stopped posting there might be like one new topic on the hidden board per day. It's tumbleweeds and sand most of the time in here nowadays ;D
-
Re: Who is your favourite superhero?
Good points, though I am not happy that your modus operandi is to make me have a breakdown.
It does annoy me sometimes when people criticise the excessive political and religious ranting because nobody is forcing anybody to open a thread or even post in it. If I start a thread about the royal family for instance it will have that in the thread title. You know what to expect so should act accordingly. You don't need to open it or read it.
In this instance it is superheroes, but it is quite on topic to have a debate about whether Superman was a Jew or not. It's nothing to get angry about though and is harmless banter. It seems that everyone gets pissed off except me and Bilbo, even though we are the ones doing our best to annoy each other.

Re: Who is your favourite superhero?
No one forces me to open a thread about politics/religion...thats right...WHEN ITS IN THE FUCKING TOPIC DESCRIPTION! This was called favourite superhero...yet there is a debate to whether superman is a jew and whether he denounced america or some fuckin bullshit. How could I see that coming from the topic?
Yeah I dont post often, I have never been much of a thread starter....but Im not into politics or religion so I cant reply to them either. This may be why you dont have many people posting because they cant fit into the new religion/politics fad that has overcome the forum. I have seen more posts moved into the hidden section from the regular boards than ever before just coz some normal discussion turns political.
Im just starting to wonder whether we just create a political board or some bullshit so the rest of the forum can really choose to whether they want to read it or not. Its nothing against you Bilbo or Miles....but fuck this is getting as bad as pac/mayweather nut huggers. And really is it any different to that? Same repetitive subjects brought up over and over whether or not they are relevant to the thread.

I don't see how this thread is about politics at all? It's just a bit of friendly banter between Miles and I.
If you look at the forum during the day, most of the time it's only really Miles and I posting. So we just chat to each other.
It's really ridiculous for people to get annoyed about what we talk about when nobody else is here :-\
Just create your own threads and talk about what you want to talk about.

Re: Who is your favourite superhero?
from a "Liberal", some of you might find it very funny but one of my all time favorite super hero is actually leaning on the very right side: Rorscharch: He had wicked youth and joined the watchmen beliving that something had to be done as there was too much corruption around and after the law passed the law against masked vigilantes, Rorscharch refused to give up the fight he believed in and refused to abdicated to what he consider to be an unfair law. His convictions told him to keep fighting the crime off and to use the same boardgame as the criminals: they play on both conventional and unconventional boards, he'll just do the same. He's in top shape despite his 45 years old, even more than good ol' Hopkins, his tough as a nail because of his past, damn clever and his detective skills are just second to SHerlock Holmes. Sure, his mental is questionable on some aspects but he knows it, he's aware that the shocks he has had did play a toll somewhere, hence why he wears a mask with moving ink spots on it, the perpetual movement of his angers and his mental "instability".
Still, Rorscharch has 2 qualities that are damn important: he's ultra loyal and ultra integrity; he'll never betray you if you're on his team, will fight heart and soul for you and he's impossible to corrupt, going as far as dying because he refused to let the "big lie" goes on. Combine that with the fact that he's just a simple mortal with damn good skills and an iron will, you have the heck of a man. Liberals can't get the job done because of corruption and legal questionable issues? He,ll get the problem, analyze it when you thought he'll not get it, he,ll strike you from down below without mercy.
He's quite fascinating on many levels IMO.

I stopped logging in for the site's boxing expertise a while back. Its the comical and sometimes absurd back and forth between Bilbo and Miles with a sprinkling of posters like Lyle, Andre, Nameless, Master, VD and dare I say Hornfinger that keep me coming back
