Groves-Degale: Who do you think won...Vote
Degale v Groves
I had it 115-113 Degale
Who do you think won and post your scores.
-
Re: Who do you think won...Vote
I had it 115-113 for Groves. Really could have gone either way as there was a lot of close rounds. I just felt Groves countered well and landed more. DeGale seemed to miss an awful lot
-
Re: Who do you think won...Vote
I had Degale winning by 1, but i missed the first 2 rounds. So im just basing it on commentator's opinion. I'll watch it again at some point but there was alot of swing rounds, very hard fight to score.
-
Re: Who do you think won...Vote
at the bell I thought - well it's not going to go to Degale. Remember feeling same way re Eubank at end of Benn II.
Thought a draw would be called tonight. No one can grumble really about the result not after this one. Groves won the fight but nothing was resolved. Hopefully these two both go on to better things then meet up in 2 years or so for unification bout. There's every chance they won't but there is a chance they will
-
Re: Who do you think won...Vote
I had Degale by one but Groves really impressed me.
-
Re: Who do you think won...Vote
115-113 DeGale, it's easy to see that close rounds could have been given to Groves with influence from the crowd. I feel this fight was one of the most fairly scored on the year though and have no complaints. The stoppage in the Clev fight was ridiculous on the other hand.
-
Re: Who do you think won...Vote
I found it difficult to score as well. When Jimmy Lennon Jr. said the word "majority" i thought the next word would be draw. Close fight could have gone either way. But Groves' tactics and boxing did surprise me, before the fight I thought he would be stopped late on.
-
Re: Who do you think won...Vote
The best bit was when Degale started celebrating when Jimmy Lennon said still undefeated haha, then he realised that also applied to Groves haha.

Couldn't agree with you more mate. I think the crowd would have gone mental if the fight had gone Degale's way.
The cleverly fight stoppage was ridiculous. cleverly would have stopped him in the next few rounds anyway.

Re: Who do you think won...Vote
I had it even but couldn't argue with Groves getting the nod. Got to say didn't think he had that kind of discipline in him. Also have to admit Adam Booth is one of the best tacticians in the game. Wasn't sure about him until the last couple of years but he has really shown he knows how to get the best out of his fighters!
Bed time now! lol

DeGale v Groves - Who won on your card?
Yo, to those who scored the fight round by round, what was your verdict? I had it a 114-114 draw.
I had Groves well up 4-1 after 5 rounds but DeGale came back into it and grabbed the last 2 rounds to scrape a draw on my card. As he was the front foot fighter the whole fight im surprised the judges didnt edge it for DeGale, I definitely thought that was the way it was going when I heard the scores.
-
Re: Who do you think won...Vote
I need to watch it on tv to have a better view but for me it was a clear win for Groves, His movement was good, he didnt get suckered into a scrap and he kept it going for the full 12. I think he landed the better shots and he did it more often. Degale was looking confused at times he thought he had the fight won before it started and thats what you get for believing your own hype.
He expected Groves to come and bang away and when he didnt what else was he was going to do he said he'd beat him whether he boxed or brawled well he boxed good tonight and degale didnt do what he said he would.
Even if Deale had stopped him in the 12th it wouldnt have meant much except saving degales bacon.
Only been back an hour or so and im still buzzing!! Great night......oh yeah met Naz too!

Sorry about that. I didnt see this thread, due to it not having DeGale or Groves in the title. It will get a lot more poll votes with a proper title imo.

Re: Who do you think won...Vote
Nothing to be sorry about, I had to delete my "Macho Man Randy Savage died today" thread just yesterday.

Re: Groves-Degale: Who do you think won...Vote
When will fighters learn , if you mouth off im going to KO this bum etc , and the knockout doesnt happen , then you are setting yourself up for a fall.
Jim McDonnell said " fighters like Degale come around once in a lifetime "
Well Jim , Degale isnt special, he has a lazy style - he doesnt punch correctly - he doesnt punch hard enough to go to the very top, the list goes on.
DeGale = rank average.
-
Re: Groves-Degale: Who do you think won...Vote
I thought Groves won about 7-5. Excellent gameplan. Stopped DeGale from getting off the eye-catching flashy combos up close. Constant movement. Adam Booth is a smart funker. He made Jim McDonnell (who I like) look like a mug. They should have been ready for Groves to change tactics. Haye has been saying one thing only to do the opposite for ages now.
Good result for British boxing. Groves now has a springboard to bigger things and DeGale can easily come back from that. Might have done him good as far as his actual boxing goes.
-
Re: Groves-Degale: Who do you think won...Vote
I did not score the fight but I got the impression that Groves was edging most rounds.
Also DeGale seemed a bit fazed at the reception he got from the crowd.
-
Re: Groves-Degale: Who do you think won...Vote
I was at the fight and scored it 116-112 for Groves.

Spot on Eric you said this fight would be close, I had Groves winning. Degale look clueless in there, I think we will see the end of Jim McDonnell now he does seem a bit of a cheer leader blowing smoke up his arse all the time, Degale just didnt have a clue on how to fight Groves when he was on the back foot?
That leads me to believe McDonnell did not prepare for this sort of fight he thought Groves waS coming for a scrap, he should of covered all possibilites, I can't believe Degale would of looked that silly early on if he had worked on a gameplan of Groves fighting on the back foot.
Credit to Adam Booth again very good game plan once again from him, does come across a bit of an odd character but he did the biz again last night.

Yeah all those two wally's (Jim Mc/DeGale) went on about was Grove's chin. I mean McDonnell was predicting a first round KO, now normally you'd think that was just hype shit, but it seems they really thought it was an easy KO night.
Groves/Booth mugged them right off.

i agree that mcdonnall hasnt shown himself in the best light
even in the build up he was letting degale run his mouth and sound like a twat
it was more like degale was in charge and mcdonnell was his sidekick
i wonder if they will stay together

Re: Groves-Degale: Who do you think won...Vote
From what I have seen I doubt it, Warren was especially pissed with the tactics, did you see his interview? Haha to be fair who is Warren to comment on tactics he is a fucking promoter but he said the uppercut was there to be landed and wasn't once, he also said maybe the people blowing smoke up Degales arse will be gone, not sure if that was a dig aimed at McDonnell or just cheerleaders who are around Degale all the time.
For me McDonnell is a yes man he has got a meal ticket with Degale, Degale is the boss he is the one paying Jim his wages without Degale he would be earning about 500 quid a fight. Degale needs a change for me not a yes man, I would do a Khan get away from the distractions in London and get on a plane to America and get someone like Richardson or Roach.
-
Re: Groves-Degale: Who do you think won...Vote
I agree with the post above, change of trainer is needed and I think it is better if James went to the USA like Khan did.
-
Re: Groves-Degale: Who do you think won...Vote
its good to see most people thought groves had won
i though he got a lead at the start and kept it
it seemed like they were taking the rounds in turns
i think if it had have been a 15 round fight then Degale may have won it

I will let you know when I watch the repeat on sky for free. :)

Yes I am going to watch it in the cold sober light of day and see what I think then.:p

Re: Groves-Degale: Who do you think won...Vote
i had it 115-113 de gale but voted groves on the basis that a title fight thats that close can go either way and should never be debated about post fight
-
Re: Groves-Degale: Who do you think won...Vote
Finally watched it Groves won 7 - 5 close but not an exciting fight and why did Booth give away their strategy on the sky show? They will be fighting again in the future?

I think because the cat was already out of the bag so to speak.Booth gives nothing away for nothing.
If they fight again then I guess the strategy will be a bit different again.
Who knows were Adam Booth is concerend.
