Look out Klitschkos!! Robert Helenius is a serious threat....
Never heard of the guy before till tonight. I looked up some footage tonight and omg, this guy can scrap!!! Did you see those combos he landed on liakhovich? Some serious firepower for a 6ft 6 inch MF!!! His body shots are murder too. I think FINALLY we have a good exciting heavyweight who can challenge the Klitschkos and not be scared to death....
Look up some his fights and you will see what I mean!
*Adamek is good, but I don't think he is big enough to pull off the upsets.
I think he would take out Wlad now, but might have trouble with Vitali.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HiRW0...?v=HiRW093RFao

Re: Look out Klitschkos!! Robert Helenius is a serious threat....
Very impressive finish from Helenius ,power speed and very accurate , he is getting better with every fight , another few fights against good competion , and he will certainly get a title shot , but i hope he doesnt get rushed to quickly , i still think he needs more experiance and more rounds under his belt ,but looking very handy indeed .
-
Re: Look out Klitschkos!! Robert Helenius is a serious threat....
He needs to do some serious work on his defense if he hopes to even be competitive against either Klitschko. Right now they'd murder him.
-
Re: Look out Klitschkos!! Robert Helenius is a serious threat....
Watching some highlights I was surprised to see he has a pretty good right hand to the body. He's got some offensive tools. Not sure what to think of him overall yet.
-
Re: Look out Klitschkos!! Robert Helenius is a serious threat....
The dude is a very good prospect/contender at this stage but is far from ready to challenge either Klitschko. I'd like to see him in against someone a little fresher, an Arreola type before I'd really rate him as a threat. But he is one to watch
-
Re: Look out Klitschkos!! Robert Helenius is a serious threat....
it was worth throwing the towel in wasnt it
he does look like hes getting better and better, i am starting to be convinced, i had excuses for all his other big wins but maybe he is the real deal
-
Re: Look out Klitschkos!! Robert Helenius is a serious threat....
He has potential to be a good fighter in the division but right now he has no chance against either Klitschko unless they all of a sudden fade drastically.
-
Right now I think hed stand no chance against wlad, and would be a clinic. Vitali I don't know he's getting up there in age and has fought like a round over the last year. He needs to work on his footwork he's a bit to flat footed as lennox mentioned, and that would cost him big time against wlad since he probably wouldn't be able to touch him. However, give him some time to improve, a few more fights under the belt and we might have us a nice heavyweight scrap. I was glad to see liakovich back in the ring since he's been semi retired over last few years, hopefully he sticks around and has some good fights.

I agree. Let's see where he goes from here. He's beat enough top 20 guys, and proved he belongs in the top 10, how about facing a top ten guy now?
Has he been down? How's his chin?
-
Re: Look out Klitschkos!! Robert Helenius is a serious threat....
HA!!! ;D
Helenius has become the flavor of the month already...
You do realize all he did was beat a former WBO title holder who at his best was average and today is no where near top 5 level.
Both Wladdy & Vitaly would beat this guy.
I would even go on record and say Adamek beats Helenius via TKO.
-
Re: Look out Klitschkos!! Robert Helenius is a serious threat....
I don't know Mick, he actually looks very useful compared to most anyone his size barring the Klitschkos. Writing a guy off simply because he is raw and getting hyped isn't much different than being on the other side of the fence and bigging him up. He's a good prospect and I enjoyed watching that fight, he definetly puts his punches together very well for his size.

...You mean Liakahovich coming back out of retirement isn't a worthy excuse?
Helenius is good, but good doesn't cut it vs the Klitschko's. I want to see Helenius battle it out vs a big puncher and THEN he's ready.
Helenius-Arreola or Helenius-Dimitrenko before he gets a shot at Wlad. I do think he'd beat Povetkin, though that would be a good fight.
And looking at the title of the thread I thought brockton wrote it.
-
Re: Look out Klitschkos!! Robert Helenius is a serious threat....
Yeah I think a few more fights against the likes of a Grant, Barrett, McCall, Rahman, J C Gomez before even considering such a huge leap towards the K Bros.

I'm not writing him off as a boxer.
All I'm saying is he would get battered by either Wlad or Vitaly at this point.
The poster of this thread has him beating up Wlad and having a chance at Vitaly.
My response to that is HA! when the guy hasn't even been tested.
He beat Sergei come on...
I agree he's a good prospect but at this point it's nothing more than that.

I agree with everything except the Adamek part. He's not TKOing anyone as a heavyweight.

Only in the wasteland that is the heavyweight division is a boxer ready for a fight against two great champions after only 16 fights.

Re: Look out Klitschkos!! Robert Helenius is a serious threat....
dudes, are u serious?
Helenius would destroy arreola.
look up a few of Helenius KO's on youtube!
arreola would get beat worse than liakhovich.

I know I kind of wanted to go along the lines of this thread and post something a bit radical. :p

I don't need to look up youtube videos.
I've seen his last 6 fights complete.
He's beaten former champs which is good.
But until he starts fighting top 10 contenders we really don't know.
I'd like to see him vs. Arreola, Haye or even Dimetrenko to see how he can handle a top contender...

I agree. Honestly, I'd like to see him have at least 3 or 4 fights against steadily increasing opposition before I even hear of him thinking about the Klits. He's too green.

Re: Look out Klitschkos!! Robert Helenius is a serious threat....
I got it!
How about Helenius vs. Amin Monsour guy who went the distance vs. Guinn last week or 2 weeks ago?
-
Re: Look out Klitschkos!! Robert Helenius is a serious threat....
I'm wasn't to impresses with him. I had him losing the fight up to the stoppage. And that's against an old, inactive Liakhovich. His other big win was against a shot Peter. Really he hasn't beaten anyone good who wasn't shot. I think Arreola destroys his clumsy looking ass

I'm with you, mick & cfh. The guy has to fight a live opponent before w can really make a call on him. I too think Arreola stops him!

Re: Look out Klitschkos!! Robert Helenius is a serious threat....
i only saw a few good clips so i really dont know either. but what i did see was some good power and fast movement for such a big guy. u gotta admit though, those combos landed on liakhovich were hard. u think wlad's glass jaw could take that uppercutt??? i doubt it.
for only 16 fights, and having taken out former champions impressively, its safe to say if he gets even a little better...he could be a threat to the Klits. A few more fights away of course.
and arreola sucks! i bet even an old holyfield would whupp him.

I think everyone agrees with you that he had potential but it's stol early days & he hadn't really been tested, say what you want about Arreola but he has heart & pop & you'd have to admit it would be a god scrap

If he gets hit by Arreola like he got hit by Liakhovich, Helenius will be on his ass in a hurry.

Right now, all Helenius has is potential. He does some things well, but he's going to need to work on his deficiencies before he's a threat to someone like Wlad.

Bingo! That's a huge problem with the division today. It's almost completely void of mid level contenders or quality journeymen, making it really hard to actually have a prospect progress properly. The networks are so starved for new blood that they'll rush anyone who isn't complete garbage into a title fight. You could take all kinds of great HW's and figure that either Klitschko would have beaten them badly at the prospect stage of their careers. I'm not sure Wlad is really a GREAT heavy, but he's not losing to somebody with 15 fights, even if that someone is a lot more talented than Helenius.

I agree with this. Helenius isn't bad. The good parts of Helenius are his size and his killer instinct. I'm just not completely sold on him yet. He throws good combinations but so does Arreola. He doesn't move very well and he doesn't appear to be in the best shape. I'm curious to see how he takes a punch.
Did someone say he would beat Povetkin?

Well that AND all the prospects in the division are treated with kid gloves for so damn long that they forget what its like to be in an actual fight! Has Helenius REALLY been tested? Povetkin tested himself vs Chambers lo' those many years ago, that wasn't a great fight but it was undefeated prospect vs undefeated prospect and that made it important. Helenius needs experience fights, has he ever gassed out? Has he ever gotten off the canvas to win? Has he dealt with ANY adversity??? If not then all the easier for Wlad.

Re: Look out Klitschkos!! Robert Helenius is a serious threat....
I must have watched a different Helenius in action this week. The one I saw had ridiculous hair, looked really out of shape and weird looking and I literally laughed out loud when I saw him. He was fighting some guy called the White Wolf who came to ring, fat, out of shape, slumped shouldered and looked like he was suffering from depression. I had him winning a dreary fight until about round 6 when his fatness and/or depression caught up with him and he stopped showing any desire. The man with ridiculous hair then stepped it up and knocked him out.
I wasn't sure if it was a real fight or meant to be a parody?

who cares what his hair looks like. all i know is that that ending was brutal!!! and let's look at wlads last fight. it was pathetic. a disgrace to heavyweight boxing. as bad as haye was, wlad did not look much better. BORING as usual. and scared to death to take any risks. helenius dispatched peter ( who some people a bit ago was calling him a beast!), brewer ( who ko'ed wlad) , and liakhovich in impressive manner.
Damn guys, a person would think that action would call for at least a little props. all this in 16 fights!!!
the heavyweight boxers have been lame the last few years. horrible.
if helenius loses the extra weight, and works hard, he could be the new "hope."
retarded hair or not! anything is better than boring ass wlad jabbing all night.
at least helenius would have the heart to make it a real fight!!!

Did you really find him exciting last night though??? Stoppage aside that was as dull as any Wlad fight imo, and he was losing the fight up until the second half.
His record is ok for a prospect sure, but as a realistic opponent to stop the Klitschko's his performance sucked. Lyakhovich is an awful, awful fighter for a former world champ. Nikolay Valuev dominated hin, won most every round. Valuev dominates nobody, the Lyakhovich fight was the only time he looked even half decent.
I'd pick Tyson Fury to beat Lyakhovich better than Helenius did.
At best, he might be almost as good as Tony Thompson, although I'd heavily fancy Thompson to beat him right now.
He may have power, but he's nothing to get excited about.
He'll fight for the title soon enough though, after all there is nobody else out there right now :/

It's possible, but right now I don't think Helenius takes out either Klitschko brother. I'd like to see him wait another year or 2, get a bit more experience, and then I believe he'll have a better shot at beating both brothers, or at least putting up one hell of a fight.
It will be interesting to see how the K-Bros do against someone who's an equal in size and power, Helenius is great news for the Heavyweight division. :D

Seriously, what is it about Helenius that makes anyone think he could take out Wlad, and especially, possibly right now?
He fought a fat, unambitious plodder who hadn't fought in a year and a half and who is the only top class boxer ever to get beaten down by Nikolay Valuev and he was losing the first half of the fight.
Tony Thompson, Odlanier Solis, Eddie Chambers, Thomasz Adamek and David Haye would all have beaten Lyakhovich much more one sidedly than that. Mike Perez would likely have battered him in a few rounds, I just don't see what was impressive about that performance at all apart from the finish.
I would put Helenius in a class just above Mike Mollo and MIchael Grant.
I'd have him level right now with guys like Chris Arreola, Kevin Johnson and Axander Dimitrenko, against any of those I'd have it a pickem fight.
I think he loses to both Klits, Solis, Adamek, Chambers, Povetkin and Tony Thompson.
-
Re: Look out Klitschkos!! Robert Helenius is a serious threat....
Honestly, I haven't seen much technically to be impress by the guy. Sure, he seems to know how to throw some bombs but he doesn't have a good defense and he seems very confuse when he throws combo as how to do it effectively. I also question his stamina, afterhe threw the last shots that sent the white wolf down, he was breathing heavily. I think that all the excitation comes from the fact that he comes in to bang and that he has a massive size but all that excitation for the moment is way too premature and exaggerated. I'd give both K 6 rounds, let's say 7 to totally gun him down clueless to the canvas and I am pretty sure that a couple of other HW like Adamek or Povotkin would also to a bad number on him.

Helenius needs to fight some or all of the pugs you mentioned, and defeat them before taking on Wlad or Vitali. At this point, i'd just say he has tons of potential, but he's got a lot of work yet to do.
BTW, WTF does his hair have to do with anything, that's just ridiculous.

ha he just looks ridiculous to me. No muscle, Hatton white, stupid slicked back hair. No real skill, just power. I see nothing to get excited about, but hey, I am still talking about him so I guess he is making noise.
You say he should fight and beat those guys first, and I agree. But the state of the division right now means he will probably get a title shot offered to him by the end of the year as they have already beaten everybody else.
For me, the most live challenge out there is a fit, knee healthy Solis. But I don't know if he has the motivation to do what it takes to get in shape. He's a class above the rest though imo.
I actually think David Price might prove to be better than Helenius in time too. At least he's British..

I think he loses to both Klits,
Helenius.
I didn't say he was ready for a Klitschko Bro right now Bilbo.
Bilbo - what does it matter if his skin was Welsh White or Ghanian Black? Also, toned muscle in boxing is overrated. Also, just if you didn't know, Helenius beat David Price in the amateurs.
However, I agree with you that he is being hyped here a bit much. I agree that he would have trouble with Tony Thompson, Eddie Chambers or Cris Arreola.

Re: Look out Klitschkos!! Robert Helenius is a serious threat....
I thought the fight was fun and the knockout brutal. Job well done IMO. Still, he is a bit too green and I don't want to see him fight for a title until he is bald or goes for the combover. Still, he is potentially very dangerous with or without a Bobby Charlton combover.

Exactly.
He'll never be taken serious until he sorts that barnet out.
For the record, this will piss 95% of the forum off, Haye knocked him out in sparring*
*Haye used him as a sparring partner for Klitschko. I don't actually know if Haye knoced him out.
