Bingo! That's a huge problem with the division today. It's almost completely void of mid level contenders or quality journeymen, making it really hard to actually have a prospect progress properly. The networks are so starved for new blood that they'll rush anyone who isn't complete garbage into a title fight. You could take all kinds of great HW's and figure that either Klitschko would have beaten them badly at the prospect stage of their careers. I'm not sure Wlad is really a GREAT heavy, but he's not losing to somebody with 15 fights, even if that someone is a lot more talented than Helenius.

Well that AND all the prospects in the division are treated with kid gloves for so damn long that they forget what its like to be in an actual fight! Has Helenius REALLY been tested? Povetkin tested himself vs Chambers lo' those many years ago, that wasn't a great fight but it was undefeated prospect vs undefeated prospect and that made it important. Helenius needs experience fights, has he ever gassed out? Has he ever gotten off the canvas to win? Has he dealt with ANY adversity If not then all the easier for Wlad.

I must have watched a different Helenius in action this week. The one I saw had ridiculous hair, looked really out of shape and weird looking and I literally laughed out loud when I saw him. He was fighting some guy called the White Wolf who came to ring, fat, out of shape, slumped shouldered and looked like he was suffering from depression. I had him winning a dreary fight until about round 6 when his fatness and/or depression caught up with him and he stopped showing any desire. The man with ridiculous hair then stepped it up and knocked him out.

I wasn't sure if it was a real fight or meant to be a parody?

who cares what his hair looks like. all i know is that that ending was brutal!!! and let's look at wlads last fight. it was pathetic. a disgrace to heavyweight boxing. as bad as haye was, wlad did not look much better. BORING as usual. and scared to death to take any risks. helenius dispatched peter ( who some people a bit ago was calling him a beast!), brewer ( who ko'ed wlad) , and liakhovich in impressive manner.

Damn guys, a person would think that action would call for at least a little props. all this in 16 fights!!!

the heavyweight boxers have been lame the last few years. horrible.
if helenius loses the extra weight, and works hard, he could be the new "hope."
retarded hair or not! anything is better than boring ass wlad jabbing all night.
at least helenius would have the heart to make it a real fight!!!

Did you really find him exciting last night though Stoppage aside that was as dull as any Wlad fight imo, and he was losing the fight up until the second half.

His record is ok for a prospect sure, but as a realistic opponent to stop the Klitschko's his performance sucked. Lyakhovich is an awful, awful fighter for a former world champ. Nikolay Valuev dominated hin, won most every round. Valuev dominates nobody, the Lyakhovich fight was the only time he looked even half decent.

I'd pick Tyson Fury to beat Lyakhovich better than Helenius did.

At best, he might be almost as good as Tony Thompson, although I'd heavily fancy Thompson to beat him right now.

He may have power, but he's nothing to get excited about.

He'll fight for the title soon enough though, after all there is nobody else out there right now :/

Build Helenius up fightfan, Wlad will beat him easily as per usual.

What makes Helenius such a great fighter? He beat a Sam Peter that just got the shit slapped out of him by Wlad and showed up heavy vs Helenius. He beat Brewster the very same way....right after Wlad whipped his ass. He beat Lyakhovich that was for all intensive purposes RETIRED...who's next? Rahman

But that's fine, he can feast on the hasbeens like some Nordic Gerry Cooney, but when it comes time for a title fight he'll get what all the other undefeated fighters get vs Wlad.....a 1 in the L column.

None of these guys really have a good shot at beating either klit, they should quit chasing that dream and beat up on each other. Lot's of good fights to be made while we wait for them to retire

I agree with all of this apart from your bastardisation of the saying 'for all intents and purposes'.

he's NOT great. to be honest, all i have seen are the endings of his fights. but he does have good potential and that is what we are talking about. the KO's, the endings of these fights!
and wlad probably would win, only by jabbing all night and dancing. i bet if they traded, helenius would do him like liakhovich or better yet, corrie sanders!
    i love that fight
that much size and power and wlad dont do shit but jab anymore. perfect example? the haye fight. haye was scared to death and ran and didnt throw shit. did wlad press it? fuck no. hell, at least this green newcomer has some intent on his punches! to hurt a MF....

If they traded? Well how is Helenius' chin? Do we know? Wlad is smart enough to fight his fight and to be quite honest with you in the Haye fight Wlad was chasing Haye around, but after a while you rack up so many rounds it becomes less necessary to chase down and press the action because you're already ahead on the cards.

I've no doubts Helenius is a good prospect, but IMO he's still a prospect and not yet a contender. Its best to get tested before you get a title shot.

Who is he ready for? What's a step up in class but not too big a step up?

Ok after watching Helenius in my eyes clearly get beat by a guy who was outboxed by Tyson Fury is anyone still going to try and convince me Helenius is a serious contender, and not in fact something of a joke with his bizarre hair and appearance?

This thread title was absurd to me back then, and hopefully is absurd to most now.

Helen has turned out to be a Trojan horse, a wooden folly disguised as a contender. Never having seen him fight, the favourable reviews he got in the boxing press seemed to indicate some real potential in a stale division. Chisora was way to much for him and should really now have the European belt with which to use in securing a rematch with Fury. Del boy is better than he was when he came in overweight against Fury and would probably outwork him if he was fit. Derrick's lack of finishing power would cost him against someone like Wlad but he is a game and exciting fighter who loves a tear up and is unlucky not to have got his shot. The worst case scenario i now fear is Fury fighting Helenius and the whole division getting stinkier. Even Povetkin is over rated and deathly dull..God the only thing Helenius is a serious threat to is the lower back health of the paramedics who would have to carry him out of the ring were he to meet the Klitschkos.

I like that phrase "tear up". Nigel Benn was quite fond of using it and he was in his share of tear ups.

I'm a Chisora fan after seeing him kick the shit outta the big viking lop dick.
