Poll: Is a Floyd-Ortiz Rematch Warranted/Worth it?
I think it is warranted AND worth it, but it should be done in 3 months time, no later than mid-January 2012. Floyd immediately offered it and i can't think of ANY REASON UNDER THE SUN that Ortiz wouldn't take him up on it.
After careful reflection, Floyd was a jerk, though a LEGAL jerk undeniably. The 1st hook spun Ortiz's head towards Cortez, and Mayweather could have given Ortiz the chance to regroup, BUT THE 2ND PUNCH WAS ENTIRELY UNNECESSARY, not to mention heartless, as it was thrown at a man who wasn't even looking.

Re: Poll: Is a Floyd-Ortiz Rematch Warranted/Worth it?
No. I dont need to se a one sided fight. Its a mismatch. Ortiz was getting technically shut out and he was on his way to a mid round ko loss. this kis is a punk, bitch made... So embarrasssing.lol
Btw floyd did nothing wrong. Does je have bad sportsmanchip? Yes.. But what he did was perfectly legal so the joke is on ortiz for getting dirty and breaking basic rule of boxing which is to protect yourself at all times. This fuckin ortiz ortiz deserved it.. Such

Re: Poll: Is a Floyd-Ortiz Rematch Warranted/Worth it?

ITS ALL ORTIZ'S FAULT. Stupid kssing hugging smiling jerk, acting the punk and the court jester all at once.

Re: Poll: Is a Floyd-Ortiz Rematch Warranted/Worth it?
Ortiz was clearly out of his deapth and i wouldnt be interested in a rematch
although if there was one id watch it
-
Would b completely pointless! Ortiz does not deserve another big pay day.I wouldn't pay for it again. It's a total mismatch!

Agreed. Also I think it would please Floyd as he clearly doesn't want to fight Manny, after hearing his post match press conference - obvious i know, but the more time that passes the more unlikely that fight is. Looks like the boxing public will be denied the fight we all want to see.

I agree Ortiz would lose, but maybe for those who are still skepticle.
I would also watch just because.

Re: Poll: Is a Floyd-Ortiz Rematch Warranted/Worth it?
IMO, Ortiz heart left the fight, once he was deducted a point for that pointless headbutt. Although he didn't see that laser coming, Floyd is not a one punch KO artist. Berto and M&M hit Ortiz much harder then that punch that Mayweather landed on his neck. NOT SOLID ON HIS CHIN!!! Nonetheless he went down. But I do think he could have got back up if he really wanted to continue to fight. Trying to get a DQ was the only way he was going to win.
The question is, will Ortiz take the fight? NOPE!!! He said he we be champion again in 6 months. He know his next fight will be against Berto or he will go back down to fight Morales for his title. Hell, he might go up and fight Alvarez. He came in the fight at 164!!!
-
Re: Poll: Is a Floyd-Ortiz Rematch Warranted/Worth it?
agreed. Ortiz wont take the rematch. Floyd would for sure.
-
Re: Poll: Is a Floyd-Ortiz Rematch Warranted/Worth it?
Ortiz was already given a chance and he blew it. Let Floyd fight someone at his level.
I won't pay to watch them fight again ............... oh wait, I didn't pay for the first one.
-
Re: Poll: Is a Floyd-Ortiz Rematch Warranted/Worth it?
Theres no one id rather really see Floyd in with more than Ortiz....apart from Pac or Khan. So if he isnt gona match either of them next then it may as well be a Ortiz rematch. Hopefully he will match Pac or Khan next however

Re: Poll: Is a Floyd-Ortiz Rematch Warranted/Worth it?
You forgot to put the poll in your poll thread ;D
-
Re: Poll: Is a Floyd-Ortiz Rematch Warranted/Worth it?
I know, I realized that right as I hit "submit", and then seeing as I have never done a poll, felt embarrassed about this omission, and didnt want to delete the New Topic. Can this be fixed or is it too late?

Re: Poll: Is a Floyd-Ortiz Rematch Warranted/Worth it?
ortiz dosn't want the rematch. watch the post fight press conference. he says he wants the rematch...but without conviction.
the kid is clearly a muppet just saying what he thinks he should. i doubt he has any thoughts of his own.
he's basically ronnie from the jersey shore.
-
Re: Poll: Is a Floyd-Ortiz Rematch Warranted/Worth it?
I think a rematch would be fair. Albeit Ortiz just lost concentration, but it was unsportsman like of Mayweather.
Mayweather took that straight right opportunity like he never thought he was gonna win, like an easy way out.
Worth it? No, it'll just pro-long the saga with Pac-Man!

Once they dangle the money offer again, of course Ortiz will want the rematch. But enough of that rematch talk, he isn't entitled to it.

Re: Poll: Is a Floyd-Ortiz Rematch Warranted/Worth it?
There was like 3 or 4 maybe 5 real good punches at most landed in that fight. They were all by Floyd, but to say Ortiz was out classed that bad and Floyd was that far ahead in the fight is crazy. Did you see the defense by both fighters? It was tight and near perfect by both. This was about to be not a good but a great fight. Ortiz hadnt even started to bring it yet. He was pickn his shots very nicely. Hate to see ortiz go out like that but on the other hand I hate to blame Floyd for having a fighters killer instinct. The ONLY solution is a rematch after the Pac fight.

Now I'm starting to agree with you. Floyd has to fight Pac first before he fights anyone else. But, now more than ever, he has an excuse not to fight Pacquiao. I wish the Mayweather-Ortiz fight did not do well so that there is no motivation for them to have the rematch ahead of a Pacquiao fight.
-
Re: Poll: Is a Floyd-Ortiz Rematch Warranted/Worth it?
A rematch with Ortiz will only buy Floyd Jr time for another justification in ducking a faceoff with Pacquiao, or for a real fight with some other fighter deemed as more deserving.
Actually, the "hand picked" opponent, Victor Ortiz, was so out of his depth in this match with Floyd Mayweather Jr., as earlier pointed out here, that the deliberate multiple head butts he gave Mayweather was so moronic. No fighter in the right frame of mind will attempt this infraction. What adds to fuel odd questions was the manner by which it was executed.
It seemed as if the headbutts was seriously aimed, launched, and executed "for" and "to effect" damage, as reflected in the number of times it was attempted until it finally was technically put to stop by arbitration. As to its purpose, other than idiocy, your guess is as good as mine!
It is rather an easy conclusion that a rematch with these protagonists, Floyd Jr vs Ortiz, as one quite without a sensible reason, it is pointless. What is sensible tho' is to refrain from having these mismatches in the future.
Lets cut the mockeries to the sport to the bare minimum!

Re: Poll: Is a Floyd-Ortiz Rematch Warranted/Worth it?
This fight was a mismatch from the getgo and that's without 20/20 hindsight. I've said that from day one. There is no need for a rematch of a mismatch.
-
Re: Poll: Is a Floyd-Ortiz Rematch Warranted/Worth it?
But Ortiz still got a point taken away. Ortizs mistake is seprate totally from what Floyd did. Ortiz heabutts Floyd, and in exchange gets a point deducted, recieves a power left hook to the chin, a power straight right to the chin, is robbed of his chance of even getting started in the fight. And on top of that he loses his belt. I agree Ortiz should have been "protecting himself at all times" but to say he deserved it for his headbutt I disagree there.
-
Re: Poll: Is a Floyd-Ortiz Rematch Warranted/Worth it?
How would you sell a rematch? How are they gonna make another 24/7 series for it?
How are they going to sell Ortiz as a viable challenger? The whole intrigue of the first fight was if Ortiz's size and youth would cause Floyd problems, and if Floyd's inactivity and personal problems took anything out of him.
We CLEARLY saw Mayweather smashing Ortiz with lead rights at will and shutting out the majority of Ortiz's offense.
He had his shot and he blew it, bring on Pac or Khan.

Ortiz had perfect defense? Did you not see him eating lead rights for 4 rounds straight?

Re: Poll: Is a Floyd-Ortiz Rematch Warranted/Worth it?
Ortiz has a tight defense? Lmfao... Mayorga is a technician..
-
Re: Poll: Is a Floyd-Ortiz Rematch Warranted/Worth it?
I seen Floyd land about 4 or 5 decent straight rights maybe 2 or 3 of them nice and solid. The rest werent clean shots. Sounds like to many people were listening to the fake ass announcers. Watch the figth on mute.
-
Re: Poll: Is a Floyd-Ortiz Rematch Warranted/Worth it?
I dont see how anyone could say ethier fighter was clearly winning that fight at all. Or look at the first (and only) 4 rounds of that fight and say Floyd was going to smash him. Even if a fighter is bloodied up and beat in four rounds there is still 8 rounds to go. Even if it was the last round ortiz still has KO power.
-
Re: Poll: Is a Floyd-Ortiz Rematch Warranted/Worth it?
There needs to be a rematch sometime after the Pac fight. This fight was by far unfinished.
-
Re: Poll: Is a Floyd-Ortiz Rematch Warranted/Worth it?
Omg lol.. You dont know shit about boxing.
-
Re: Poll: Is a Floyd-Ortiz Rematch Warranted/Worth it?
Controversial KO aside, Ortiz had no chance of winning the 1st fight, and he would have zero chance of winning a rematch, so what's the point? A rematch is a total waste of time, Mayweather needs to move on to bigger and better things, like Manny Pacquiao. ;)

Watch the compubox numbers. Floyd on average connecting 15 clean shots compared to Victor's 2 or 3 punches per round.

Re: Poll: Is a Floyd-Ortiz Rematch Warranted/Worth it?
seen the stats and they seemmed pretty padded to me. Im actually surprised someone hasnt brought that up forever ago. I think they were pumpin Floyd up bad during the fight. Floyd would throw a right and sure it may have hit Ortiz in the head but it hit his glove first. Thats not a clean shot. If we are countin those Ortiz prolly landed more than Floyd. I been waitn on someone to try tell me I dont know boxing too lol. Its not like I dont know that Floyd was prolly winnin the fight cause he of course is the only one that actually landed one of the few decent shots that were landed. Yeah Floyd may have touched him with his right a few more times than that. Floyd never put Ortiz in a corner or had him stuck on the ropes ethier. For the most part Ortiz was the aggressor, using head movement and picking his shots wisely tho he didnt land shit. Take alot of other fights, where a fighter wins pretty much just cause he was the aggressor, even tho the other fighter plays good D and dont get hit much and lands counters. It depends on the judges really. Like i I said tho even if Floyd was clearly winning the fight and Ortiz was bloody and bruised that was unfinished. And sayin that any fighter as no chance in any rematch is insane. Any fight fan should know better than to say that lol. Any fight fan should know better than to say a fight had been decided in 4 rounds of a 12 round fight. Ortiz was gonna fight till the end my friends, until the end of 12 rounds, until he got knocked out while he was lookin, while he wasnt lookin, the ref stopped the fight etc. Unfortunately it happened the way it did.

Re: Poll: Is a Floyd-Ortiz Rematch Warranted/Worth it?
Seein Ortiz go out like that has just really got to me honestly. To see any fighter go out like would get to me. What gets to me more is I put myself in his shoes and think of the pain and anger he feels then hear what he says and I see he says class things and handles himself well even after bein sucker punched like that. Alot of fighter regardless wouldnt have the class he has shown. Then after all this people try to blame him for Floyd sucker punching him. As if he is responsible for Floyds actions in anyway at all.
-
Re: Poll: Is a Floyd-Ortiz Rematch Warranted/Worth it?
Me bein a fighter I fell his pain, and im positive I wouldnt be able to handle myself as well as he has in that situation. I would have fought him right there again and then again at the presser lol. Im sure any fighter would feel the same.
-
Re: Poll: Is a Floyd-Ortiz Rematch Warranted/Worth it?
lol you're a fighter ic.. What kind of fighter are you?
-
Re: Poll: Is a Floyd-Ortiz Rematch Warranted/Worth it?
The kind that fights, its a boxing forum is it strange for fighters to be on here?
-
Re: Poll: Is a Floyd-Ortiz Rematch Warranted/Worth it?
Naw it's just that Id expect a " fighter " to have basic boxing knowledge..
-
Re: Poll: Is a Floyd-Ortiz Rematch Warranted/Worth it?

Yea bro.. A knockout loss was inevitable so im amazed at the fact that some people thought he was going to last 12 rounds.. it was beyond obvious that that Ortiz wasn't going to make it out of the midrounds..
-
Re: Poll: Is a Floyd-Ortiz Rematch Warranted/Worth it?
I dont think it was beyond obvious ive seen fighters take way worse beatings than that and last a whole fight. I dont know what round the fight would have made it to, all I know is it was an unfinished fight.
