Would fighters like Bruno,Shavers,Norton,Ruddock be Champ today?
How would these tough boys fare against the Klitschkos, Haye, and Valuev? I say they would smoke the fruck out of them.
-
Re: Would fighters like Bruno,Shavers,Norton,Ruddock be Champ today?
None of them would beat Vitali imo.
Ruddock - either loses UD or knocks Wlad out - beats the rest
Bruno - beats all current crop except the Klits
Norton - beats all current crop except the Klits
Shavers - either loses UD or knocks Wlad out - beats the rest
-
Re: Would fighters like Bruno,Shavers,Norton,Ruddock be Champ today?
wow, I guess when I think about what you say, makes alot of sense. Vit Klit is way too tall and big for those guys in general, maybe not for Razor or Frank, but Norton and Shavres would look pretty small against the K bros. Would be tough for Kenny to get inside on that long -ass reach. Would like to see Bruno go jab for jab with the Klits though.

I think Bruno would've been stopped on his feet by both. He had no ability to defend and cover up once he had been stunned. He actually had a cracking chin, but just a weak defence when under attack.

Re: Would fighters like Bruno,Shavers,Norton,Ruddock be Champ today?
I think the only heavy bruno doesn't beat is vitali.
-
Re: Would fighters like Bruno,Shavers,Norton,Ruddock be Champ today?
Bruno is the best HW ever to have lived
the other three are no better than the rest of the crop we have today and it would be exactly the same outcome as the klits last 20 or what ever fights
shavers wouldbnt last a couple or three rounds with either

yeah I'd say Ruddock would get decisioned by the Klitman, or knock him out
Bruno wouldnt wint against any of them except Haye maybe.
Shavers - never seen him fight
Norton would be a champion today and certainly outpoint Klitman.
-
Re: Would fighters like Bruno,Shavers,Norton,Ruddock be Champ today?
this thread highlights how people look back on the Ali's time with rose tinted glasses
it certainly is the fairytail era in HW boxing

Re: Would fighters like Bruno,Shavers,Norton,Ruddock be Champ today?
they all get smoked by the Klitschkos imo

Re: Would fighters like Bruno,Shavers,Norton,Ruddock be Champ today?
Would have loved to see Bruno v either Klit, he is able to KO both of them but they would try and take it to the later rounds to beat and stop him. Bruno jab and power would make Wlad ultra cautious. Vitali would take the bombs but not for too long. Ruddock was one dimensional puncher, Shavers hardest puncher ever but also one dimensional. Norton was good once he got going but doubt either Klit would allow him to do that.

Re: Would fighters like Bruno,Shavers,Norton,Ruddock be Champ today?
You know what I honestly think Frank smokes Wlad. I really do
Against Vitali am not so sure, he either stops him via one punch KO or fades in latter rounds to be TKO'ed
-
Re: Would fighters like Bruno,Shavers,Norton,Ruddock be Champ today?
I think Vitali Klitschko is very overrated.
-
Re: Would fighters like Bruno,Shavers,Norton,Ruddock be Champ today?
yes but he's fucking massive and a decent boxer
goes a long way
-
Re: Would fighters like Bruno,Shavers,Norton,Ruddock be Champ today?
Shavers and Norton would get smoked by a lot of the top crop.
Why does Shavers get so much credit? Sure he punched harder than fuck, but he had a suspect chin, heart and cardio.

Because he had some good performances, he almost stopped Larry Holmes. Could of won a decision vs Muhammad Ali, and stopped Ken Norton, Jimmy Young, both very good fighters.

But what's his best win though ? Samuel Peter ? he's only faced one elite Heavyweight and lost, and has mostly fought chumps except for a few decent fighters. People are trying to discredit the old fighters. But how many of the so called contenders in this era would even be top 10 in any other era ?

Re: Would fighters like Bruno,Shavers,Norton,Ruddock be Champ today?
Don't knock Earnie, Earnie was the MAN. "Responsible for more Blackouts than Con-Edison!" Earnie was the most feared puncher ever, atleast as feared as Foreman and Marciano. BRUTAL MOTHERFOCKING PUNCHER HE WAS. Check this out:

He looks like Ivan Drago chasing Apollo Creed around in the first round of that fight. He could be one of the greatest ever, but he could just be very average and have only done what many others could have done if they had been around in this era.
If you think about it, would any of these (middel of the road) guys have lost to anybody (except Lewis) that Vitali has fought??
Tim Witherspoon
Tony Tucker
Ray Mercer
Michael Moorer
Tommy Morrison
Frank Bruno
Oliver McCall

I wouldnt even say they were middel of the road, H. But I kno what you mean. And you forgot Mike Weaver who almost beat Holmes as well. I think they all beat everybody V fought, and I even think Witherspoon and a younger Mercer beats Lewis, and a focused McCall beats lewis too. Moorer would get smoked with his weak chin however.

i agree but it isnt neccesarily about who vitali has fought so much as how he has won
in all the fights i have seen hin in and there has been a fair few i dont remember him losing many rounds
he lost a couple of tight ones to lews and was losing the 1st round to solis and that is it
appart from against bird obviously but he had a good excuse
he has won every other fight and every round in all of those fights

Yea i wern't really paying attention my bad, but he spelt it wrong aswell so it threw me off. But Chris Byrd was coming on and did win quite a few rounds, the reason Vitali Klitschko's shoulder messed up was because he was missing alot of punches, so thats a pretty legit win for Chris Byrd IMO.
-
Re: Would fighters like Bruno,Shavers,Norton,Ruddock be Champ today?
That could have caused the injury
Considering how dominant in all of his other fights vitali has been I doubt it, I would say he was injured
-
Re: Would fighters like Bruno,Shavers,Norton,Ruddock be Champ today?
no, they wouldn't, wait until the klitschkos are 46 years old for a more fair chance, because anyone can beat anyone given an appropriate difference of age. From babies, prime to old men. Some boxers like to fight shot boxers dissimulatedly.
-
I really don't see how any of the fighters listed would be title holders or champions now. Shavers could be cruiserweight champ, but his cardio and chin were so poor.
Ken Norton would get blasted by Vitali and he would do well vs Wlad because although Norton was strong and he used that strength vs Ali and Holmes, Wlad is just as strong if not stronger and has been known to bully his opponents into range.
The other guys were just not as consistent.
Ron Lyle may have had a shot vs a younger Wladimir who was more willing to trade, I see Ron Lyle being able to pull off a Brewster/Purrity type upset if there would be one person who could, but even then it would be quite a long shot.

He landed his huge missle right hand against Larry, but pretty much lost every round other than that.
His fight agaisnt Muhammad Ali was probably the best he's EVER been, hardest he ever trained, best shape he was ever in, and I still say Muhammad beat him clearly, and we're talking about a well passed it Ali.
He had the power to beat anyone on any given night but I think he's overrated as hell. People remember him beating on an old Ali and dropping Holmes, but no one remembers the Quarry/Mercado/Cobb/Lyle fights where he showed absolutely no stamina, heart or chin. There was a good reason he never won a title.

I'm prob going to get laughed out of town but I think the Klits lose to all of them. These guys have no big wins Haye is Wlads best win and Haye is Average, Peter Is Vitali's and he is another average fighter Vitali lost the generational hand over fight against Lewis.

Bruno had power, but you need more than that to beat Wlad.
Piye, yes...that's fucking ridiculous

Well Earnie Shavers was past his best against Mercado, Cobb, so i don't hold them fights against him too much. He got caught cold against Jerry Quarry could happen to anyone, and the fight with Ron Lyle was a Lyle/Foreman type war. Could of gone either way again no shame in losing to Ron Lyle.
You still can't deny his performances against Young, Holmes 2, Ali, Norton, Ellis, yes he was limited but far worse Heavyweight's have won world titles. And Earnie Shavers would of been champion in any other era IMO.

Re: Would fighters like Bruno,Shavers,Norton,Ruddock be Champ today?
Is this a joke about Bruno or something i mean guy could not even make a defence and he the best ever. I think it must be a brit thing that i am not getting form you eric anyhow think the brothers win it.

IM not sure about Bruno but Shavers, Norton and Ruddock could have been titleholders.

Re: Would fighters like Bruno,Shavers,Norton,Ruddock be Champ today?
I've been watching some of the lost generation of Heavyweight's from the 80's, and guys like Page, Witherspoon, Thomas, in there primes. Had much better talent than the Klitschko's IMO, prime for prime if they were in shape i have no doubt they would of beaten the Klitschko's.

I say Greg, Pinklon, and Tim ALL smoke the Klitschkos.

You need to watch some of those guys in there prime Lyle, especially Tim Witherspoon who at his best was a better version of Ken Norton. Greg Page fought alot like Muhammad Ali but not as good obviously, and Pinklon Thomas had one of the finest jabs in Heavyweight history. Plus they were a good size aswell 6'3.
