Cotto"s only HOPE to wın ıs by KO FAST
And hopıng for that fast KO wıll not happen ıf he doesnt rush ın wıldly ın a sort of bullyıng shovıng rough house manner. Standıng and boxıng wıll be lıke watchıng Bert Cooper stand and box wıth Evander Holyfıeld.
If Cotto ıs Cooper he has a chance. as dıd Cooper for a few glorıous moments.

Re: Cotto"s only HOPE to wın ıs by KO FAST
I can sort of understand your point brockton, but that's a loser's mentality to think that way if you're Cotto. Cotto needs to let Floyd feel his power early on, no doubt about it, but he doesn't NEED to KO Floyd early to win. Cotto can pump the jab, make Floyd work in to get shots off, Cotto needs to be precise and efficient with his work. Muscle in on Floyd, make the fight a little dirty, but watch for the elbows. Cotto needs to work high and low and time his shots....you KNOW for a fact that Floyd is going to roll & counter, you also know he'll feint in as well...if Cotto times 1 of those just right he can hurt Floyd and when Cotto has a guy hurt he's very good at putting them away. The main thing I worry about with Cotto in this match is I don't want Floyd's speed to shellshock Cotto the way Pacquiao's seemed to. If Cotto can land effectively Floyd is in for a LONG night win or lose.
-
If you're goin life and death with zab till a few low blows slow him you're not beating floyd...same with his fight witth clottey they were dead even till clottey slowed down. Floyd has every advantage, I wouldn't even say cottos power is that much better, if at all, cotto loses this
-
Re: Cotto"s only HOPE to wın ıs by KO FAST
Mayweather has neither size or strength to threaten Cotto and Cotto is way fast enough with a very good jab to bother him and to nullify a part of his speed. Add to that a monster coach in PEdro Diaz who was behind the Cuban powerhouse during their golden years and you could be in for much more competition than what you wish for.

Who else had trouble with Zab??? Floyd...don't act like fighting Zab was some sort of cake walk for Junior who got cracked good with the left. Cotto didn't just beat Zab, he punished him, he stopped him.
Sure Cotto is the underdog in this fight but give the man some fucking credit

Yeah except I think those lowblows slowed zab down...intentional or not. I see you make no mention of the clottey fight which in many peoples eyes could have gone either way, and if you go life and death with him you're not beatin floyd. I don't mind cotto and despise floyd but cotto literally has no chance to me, he's a damaged fighter in my eyes

Well if the low blows slowed Zab down then it was a wise move by Cotto and I wouldn't doubt he'd do that vs Floyd if he thought it would help him win. I don't make mention of the Clottey fight because it's erroneous, Floyd doesn't fight like Clottey, Cotto was just coming off a loss to Margarito who Clottey was a poor man's version of. Clottey is durable and durability + stamina kills Cotto. To win Cotto needs his opponent to feel the power he has, Mosley did and he backed off a bit, Pacquiao fought through it but then again Cotto didn't have a trainer in that fight.
Cotto is an underdog, but he has skills that will make Floyd WORK for a win, it won't be easy for him I can tell you that. Hell Pacquiao did tons of damage to Cotto as did Margarito, but Cotto is a warrior, he's not easy to beat.

what is the difference in durability and stamina exactly??
-
Re: Cotto"s only HOPE to wın ıs by KO FAST
Durable means you're able to take punishment while Stamina means you're able to keep a high workrate for long periods of time without tiring
2 completely different things although they can be found together in certain fighters, Jack Dempsey, Rocky Marciano, Joe Frazier (vs Ali especially), Evander Holyfield, Marvin Hagler.
Some guys are durable but don't have the stamina: old George Foreman, Mike Tyson, Tex Cobb, old Bernard Hopkins etc.
Some guys have stamina but aren't durable: Floyd Patterson, Leo Dorin, Arturo Gatti, etc.
When Miguel Cotto encountered Antonio Margarito the first time, Miguel had mowed down everyone else in front of him and had planned to do the same to Toni, but Margarito didn't wilt from the power of Cotto's shots and didn't tire from Cotto's aggression (as well as his own punch output) ergo Toni was too durable & had great enough stamina to beat Cotto (and of course the loaded wraps hurt Miguel too of course).

Hatton is a completely different fighter a roughhousing pressure fighter....Miguel Cotto can box and he does so very well. Cotto needs to avoid getting lured in to traps that Floyd will set. No doubt about it Floyd is a very smart and crafty fighter with tons of skill, but Cotto is well skilled too and he's younger than Floyd, younger than De la Hoya, younger than Shane, and he's fresher as well. I give full credit to Floyd it's a dangerous fight for him probably the 3rd most dangerous fight he could make behind Pac (obviously) and Martinez.
-
Re: Cotto"s only HOPE to wın ıs by KO FAST
I see Cotto having some success definitely. Ortiz was doing ok before he lost the plot and I reckon he was going to cause PBF problems although I believe Mayweather would have won anyway if the fight had continued.
PBF is only human too, he has definitely started to show his age, barely noticeable but it is still showing. Cotto has to hurt Mayweather early to get his respect and make him think twice about attacking. Mayweather is ruthless when he knows he can land at will, who remembers the Gatti fight?
Of course Mayweather is the favourite but Cotto is a strong tough fighter. He is not so slow that Mayweather can be reckless, he can take a lot of punishment and doesn't know when he is beaten.
Mayweather is not stupid and he takes the right fights at the right time but I see a long hard fight for him.
The majority of the greatest fighters have all lost at some point, greater fighters than the pretty boy. Don't be shocked if you see an upset.

Floyd has stamina, and he might also be extremely durable his skills have prevented as from having to find out and I think that it'll be the same here. As I said before I think floyd takes this something like 9 to 3 or maybe late stopage. As I said before I really think cotto is damaged goods and has been for a while.

Floyd does have stamina and his defense is awesome, but we don't know if he can take consistent punishment from a guy who will be there for at least 9 rounds. Miguel Cotto can win rounds, and if he can rough Floyd up then we may have an upset on our hands.
Remember when Bernard Hopkins was seemingly untouchable at 160? That's the way I see Floyd. Their strengths in defense, getting their opponents to fight the way they want to fight, and sneaky power/stamina really casts an aura of invincibility over them. But time stands still for no one and although Floyd is faster, has a bit of an advantage in reach & height, and is a more skilled pure boxer, Miguel Cotto is a big boy and will weigh close to 165 (ballpark guess) if not more come fight night will have an edge on power, and unlike most of Floyd's other opponents Cotto can switch up to southpaw and be just as effective.
What I'm saying is, no matter how great Floyd looks right now Miguel Cotto is a very live underdog who fights with a lot of heart and will give 100% out there in the ring. For the first time in a while Floyd will have to EARN a win and that right there is good for boxing. The fact that Alvarez could lose to Mosely on the undercard makes this a night of boxing I refuse to miss out on.
Win or lose for Cotto May 5th is going to be a great night of boxing!

I hope you're right, I don't see Floyd dropping Cotto at all but I do see it ala Floyd Gatti, eventually. Seeing the 24/7 with Cotto looking great with a great trainer sugarcoats reality though:-\

Look what Marquez did, cotto isn't much different, if anything Marquez is more durable than cotto and may weather cruised that fight

Juan Manuel Marquez was fighting WELL above his best weight, Miguel Cotto is a LEGIT 154 pounder and if Floyd could beat Cotto like he beat JMM I would be outright shocked. I don't expect Cotto to win, I want him to, and I can see how he could, but Floyd is a great fighter. I do expect Cotto to give Floyd hell though....not a single person Cotto has fought had an "Easy Night's Work" not Margarito the first time, not Pacquiao at a catchweight (I believe Pac got a busted eardrum from that fight), nobody....NOBODY.
I can't see Cotto acting like JMM or Shane in where he just gives up or is 100% outclassed. Cotto is a guy who will go out on his shield, he will probably get cut & swole up to the point they stop the fight, but Cotto is going to pressure Floyd, Floyd will have to earn the W.

Well have to agree to disagree on this one cause I see floyd having an easy night after four or five rounds, but hope I'm wrong.
-
Re: Cotto"s only HOPE to wın ıs by KO FAST
Only way Mayweather has en easy night after 4/5 rounds is if Cotto has become a very very old worn fighter.
Mayweather is not a power puncher (hurtful and accurate, yes) which will be good for Cotto.
If Cotto can get his jab working and set himself up for combinations then force PBF back and against the ropes he will tire him out and Mayweather will be forced to up his work rate which he doesn't like having to do.
I'm not predicting a Cotto win as I haven't quite decided on what I think will happen but I reckon we are in for a very competitive fight especially with Cotto coming in after some good confidence boosting wins in his last few fights.

Iv bet £50 on cotto to win at 4/2 odds

You have alot of confidence in Cotto. If he tries to bring the fight to Floyd he will only tire himself out for the second half of the fight which will make for stupidly easy pickings for Floyd. Flolyd has the speed, the stamina, the defence, the skill and the power on his side. Not an easy combination to defeat unless you have the mother of all game plans. If floyd can take Hattons pace and punishment then Cotto will not be a problem. I dont see cotto getting to many good shots of on Floyd to cause any problems as Floyd will very quickly work out his pattern and send his own deadly attacks back. I think he has Cottos number in every area. I do however hope to god your right as I would love to see the smile wiped off that smug pricks face but I am very sure your wrong and your love of your fighter is blinding your judgement.
Not trying to be a prick just the totally opposate view. Sorry buddy but your fighter has no chance.

And traps meaning the uppercut on the inside when a fighter like Cotto who leads with his head tends to fall for. Cotto is a pretty smart fighter and even in his 2 losses he took and dished out punishment. The 1 thing I hope Cotto does is keep the fight in the center of the ring and not follow Floyd all night. Cotto's jab and body attack are keys to winning and pulling off 2012's upset of the year.

Re: Cotto"s only HOPE to wın ıs by KO FAST
Every person that's on Floyd's nuts right now doesn't seem to realize his cherry picking ways. Ortiz, Marquez, and Mosley weren't the best fighters in the world when Mayweather fought them. Cotto is Floyd's best competition since Hatton, at the very least.

Give me those three opponents over a way past it margarito and mayorga and over a b level yuri foreman...so floyd will be far above the level of fighters cotto has fought recently, don't think the reverse is true.
-
Re: Cotto"s only HOPE to wın ıs by KO FAST
Cotto beating Margarito was about nothing else other than exorcising the demons. What that would have done for Cotto mentally is priceless.
Mayweather has faced good guys lately. Marquez is an absolute warrior but he was too small, his heart and skills were not going to make up that disadvantage. Mosley is a name, but was there to last the distance. Ortiz was a good live opponent but he fucked things for himself before the fight really got started.
Cotto's fights have been confidence builders, Mayweathers have been money makers.
It's hard to predict this fight really as we don't know if Cotto has much left. Also Mayweather fights so infrequently and he is at an age where the activity can creep up on him.
We can't deny that on paper it is a very good fight.

A good fight with Pac > A win against any guy Floyd's beaten since Hatton. ;D
I also wasn't comparing the level of competition between Floyd and Cotto. I was saying that Floyd hasn't been fighting top level opponents, and Cotto IS a top level opponent.

Shane had beaten marg in his fight prior to floyd, ortiz beat berto I don't see how they weren't top level??? Marquez is top level as well but was to small...I'm not sure this version of cotto is better than the shane or ortiz floyd fought. I guess I just have far less faith in cotto than most on here it seems

I'm not sure about that bit because after the 2nd knockdown vs Pac, Cotto appeared to go on the run and didnt try to win after that he was just trying to survive. Marquez & Shane werent in the fight but I wouldnt say they gave up, just outclassed and didnt know what to do. Shane gave up vs Pac and was it was a terrible effort that night but vs Floyd he went for it for 2 rounds but his old body didnt have it after that.
Cotto will be more competative than Floyd and Marquez but the end result will be the same. . . . Floyd on points.

It's hard to predict this fight really as we don't know if Cotto has much left. Also Mayweather fights so infrequently and he is at an age where the activity can creep up on him.
We can't deny that on paper it is a very good fight.
Absolutely spot on, mate. :)
A margarito that had just been caught cheating who was probably thinking about what's going to happen to him and didn't even care if he won or lost. That margarito? ofcourse Mosley wooped him. If he would've been plastered up it would've probably been retirement for Mosley. Cotto beat a young hungry Mosley and almost went the distance with a plastered margarito.

Give me those three opponents over a way past it margarito and mayorga and over a b level yuri foreman...so floyd will be far above the level of fighters cotto has fought recently, don't think the reverse is true.
A good fight with Pac > A win against any guy Floyd's beaten since Hatton. ;D
I also wasn't comparing the level of competition between Floyd and Cotto. I was saying that Floyd hasn't been fighting top level opponents, and Cotto IS a top level opponent.

Mayweather has faced good guys lately. Marquez is an absolute warrior but he was too small, his heart and skills were not going to make up that disadvantage. Mosley is a name, but was there to last the distance. Ortiz was a good live opponent but he fucked things for himself before the fight really got started.

We're talking about the last few opponents not what they did five or ten fights ago. The fact of the matter is when floyd fought shane he came of a huge win, same goes for ortiz to not call em top level isn't fair. The shane floyd fought is better than any of cottos last few opponents, so is ortiz..I usually don't do these but ill sig bet on this one if anyone wants. Also as I said before I don't mind cotto and don't like floyd and do think marg was plastered up and that's a big reason why I v iew cotto as a damged fighter.

Your right Ortiz was a better fighter then any of Cotto's opponents. Mosley has the better name but I do believe he was way passed his prime when he fought mayweather coming off a win or not he was old so I believe he was cherry picked as for Ortiz that would've been a good fight had it not been for the head bitt.

Re: Cotto"s only HOPE to wın ıs by KO FAST
Ortiz is younger and fresher, but Cotto would hammer the crap out of that kid. Cotto is a better boxer, has more power, better defense, a bigger heart, and a sharper mind. Ortiz is a swarmer, a wreckless, nasty fighter....Cotto COULD fight that way and STILL whip Ortiz's ass, but Cotto is a boxer and a damn good one.
Cotto fought Pacquiao....don't see a name bigger or better than that on Floyd's resume AND Cotto did that weight drained and without a trainer in his corner and he still lasted 11/12 rounds....whether or not that was smart is beyond the point. The deal is Cotto is tough, he's a warrior, and it's been quite a long time since Floyd will have fought such a dedicated fighter that can carry the weight well and isn't completely shot.

Right now I would prefer to be seeing Cotto / JMM.

Bullshit he could, Lyle. Five years ago sure, but he can't fight anyone that way anymore and it's precisely why Floyd will toy with him.

Are you fucking kidding me??? Cotto would massacre Victor Ortiz!!! If they fight at any point in time I've got a sig bet all over that one!!! Victor Ortiz....shiiiiit you musta' lost your damn mind! Cotto would also handle Berto easily.

I didn't say Cotto couldn't beat Victor:rolleyes:, at least realize what part of your post I was responding to. He would most likely be able to outbox him, but IF he decided to swarm and go toe to toe with him(which would be very stupid and something he hasn't done for several years) I feel Ortiz would probably stop him. You seem to think Cotto is still near peak form and durable, I wholeheartedly disagree here that's all. I think he's actually the least dangerous opponent Floyd will have faced since Marquez, who Cotto would be much better off fighting incidently.

Cotto is as good as he ever was, he's lost 2 fights 1 to a cheater and 1 to one of the best P4P fighters out there today. I don't get this whole "Cotto is washed up" bullshit, Miguel is a solid boxer, he's in his prime years still (as can be evidenced by his holding THE 154 title), and he's given no reason for you to think he's washed up. He's been in some battles sure, but he hasn't looked the worse for wear due to them.
As for Ortiz, I've never been sold on the guy as a BOXER....as a fighter meh, he's ok, I mean he doesn't have heart like Cotto has and that right there is one of the reasons Cotto would demolish him. PLUS Victor hasn't fought at 154....ever. Victor still has trouble muscling up on welterweights why would he be able to do anything to Cotto? And Cotto has a much better jaw than Ortiz does, that's a fact. Cotto would also beat Marquez...why? Because Cotto is too big and can box well enough to beat JMM.
"The least dangerous opponent Floyd will have faced since Marquez"....so Marquez, Mosley, & Ortiz were more dangerous??? That's ridiculous....but hey, you believe what you want, but know Cotto will come to fight and he won't punk out like Ortiz did.
