"Sugar" Shane Mosley retires!
“Sugar” Shane Mosley retires from boxing
We all knew this was coming sooner or later... but it's still a shock. I've truly enjoyed watching the classy Sugar Shane over the years, and he will be sorely missed. The best of luck to him in whatever he decides to pursue in life from here on out. I think it's the right choice... he's had a stellar career and has nothing else to prove.
Good luck to you, bro.
-
Yup am glad he retired and never fought on for the sake of it
He was great and will Defo be missed
-
Re: "Sugar" Shane Mosley retires!
After Mosley's last outing this comes at the right time. He stayed in the game a long time and had some tremendous victories, fought everybody, including Winky Wright when no one else wanted to fight him. Also gave Vernon Forrest a shot when he didn't have to.
I'll always remember Mosley as a great fighter and the first to legitimately beat Oscar. That left hook he KO'd Vargas with and the one he took out Mayorga with were sensational.

Re: "Sugar" Shane Mosley retires!
No doubt Shane was one of the best ones out there... and what made him unique was he never needed to be a classless punk to show he was one of the best. He thrilled us in many fights, like the ones you mentioned. But my career highlight of Mosley was when he absolutely destroyed Antonio Margarito. I was traveling and in a hotel room at the time. I still amazed I didn't get kicked out of the hotel after the ruckus I caused jumping up and down and screaming holy hell with every punch Mosley was landing on that cheating bum I've always hated so much.
A true class act in boxing.

Yes that win will live on forever. Much like Duran's resurgent win against Iran Barkley or Davey Moore. Simply remarkable and inspirational.
-
Re: "Sugar" Shane Mosley retires!
he stayed too damn long.
He still sounded okay around the time that he fought Margarito (didn't sound as well as he did when he was in his 20s but sounded okay).
After fighting Mayweather, Mora, Pac, and Canelo and taking 3 beatings, he sounds horrible.
Before the Canelo fight, Dougie Fisher of Ring said Mosley couldn't pronounce WBC. When Shane tried to say it, it came out sounding like ABC.
Shane used to be pretty quick when he was asked a question. His post fight interviews in the last couple fights were painful. He is very deliberate. He takes time to compose his thoughts that he didn't need before.
Very sad.....
I enjoyed Shane's career. He was absolutely great at 135, very good at 147, so so at 154. He will be missed, but like many fighters, he stayed too long and may have done some long-term damage to himself.

Re: "Sugar" Shane Mosley retires!
Winky Wright retired today too. Both at 40.

Yeah, I saw that too. Two surefire future HOF'ers that were good for the sport. Not only for their excellent careers, but for the classy way they carried themselves in and out of the ring.

Not much of a shock to me Tito, it was time.

Re: "Sugar" Shane Mosley retires!
Dela Hoya was winning fight I until Mosley turned south paw that totally befuddled Oscar.
That was his greatest trick aside from the Margarito KO.
-
Re: "Sugar" Shane Mosley retires!
He was well liked and did the right thing by retiring and we'll all miss him. He fought the who's,who of boxing and The Hall of Fame is getting a spot ready for him.
-
Best option for Sugar Shane, happy retirement champ, well deserved, Knocking out margarito has to be one of my favourite Shane mosley mommemts.
-
Re: "Sugar" Shane Mosley retires!
It's good to see him finally see sense. His recent showings have been very poor. The Mora fight should have been the final warning that he couldn't pull the trigger.
-
Re: "Sugar" Shane Mosley retires!
I am glad because i thought he would have to carry on fighting because of his divorce.
-
Re: "Sugar" Shane Mosley retires!
That's good to hear. Now I hope to hear the same for Roy and Holyfield soon.
-
Re: "Sugar" Shane Mosley retires!
Live long and prosper champ.
-
Re: "Sugar" Shane Mosley retires!
I's a good choice for Shane, he's been on the slide for quite some time. I would still love for him to fight Berto or Ortiz just because I think the styles match up well. As always you want a guy like Shane to leave on a win, but I guess that's not going to be the case.
-
Re: "Sugar" Shane Mosley retires!
And call it a hunch... but something tells me that, unlike a lot of other high-profile fighters... Shane will not even consider a comeback after he's been gone a while. I know he's 40, but there's no shortage of 40-some year old fighters lately, including some that had retired and are trying to come back. Mosley will never make that mistake.
-
Re: "Sugar" Shane Mosley retires!
I was 18 and hanging around the basketball courts near my house and saw my friend walking home from the bus he took to get to the gym. (he was still going. I was saving bus fare and getting in tons of 'sparring' down at the basketball courts) Kidding around, I asked him if he was the best fighter in the gym yet. He said he was not, that the best boxer in the gym was a 9 year old kid, which made sense, since that 9 year old had been going to the gym to watch his dad train fighters for years. Followed Shane Mosley's career ever since.

Re: "Sugar" Shane Mosley retires!
The 1 fight that should have been made in their primes was Shane Mosely vs Felix 'Tito' Trinidad....that would have been EPIC
-
Re: "Sugar" Shane Mosley retires!
I think Shane still lives in Pomona, in the Ganesha Park area. There's a hill in the middle of the park, overlooking the LA County Fairgrounds, real nice homes, and he used to live there. The local 7-11, off the Ganesha exit of the 10 Freeway used to have dozens of autographed pictures.
-
Good choice for Mosley. It could have been a lot worse and he could have gone on a lot longer. I'm glad he is seeing sense. It must be hard to quit something you love so much and admit that you're not what you once were. Respect to him for making the difficult but correct choice

Epic indeed. One of those mega-fights that should've been made.

Re: "Sugar" Shane Mosley retires!
Mosley-Tito is pretty easy to call.
Tito's china-chin never survives a prime Mosley onslaught. Tito hit the deck about a hundred times. Kevin Lueshing, who was "lucky" to win a British title, dumped him on his arse and turned him into bambi on ice.
Mosley shatters Tito all day long. Fact.
-
Re: "Sugar" Shane Mosley retires!
The same Lueshing that got KTFO'ed in the 3rd round? You're crowing about THAT? Seriously? Were you born that pathetic? Or were you dropped at birth? Or are you just sore because you've never had a fighter that is even 50% the fighter that Trinidad was? Are you aware that Trinidad was knocked down several times during his career, only to get back up and put a KTFO on the opponent's ass? Being the boxing guru that you are... surely you must be aware of that. But why the fuck am I arguing with you again?
On a side note, I noticed a Kirkland Laing among Lueshing's TKO victims. Is that OUR Kirkland Laing? Your loyal and trusted sidekick? How fascinating. I didn't know we had a celebrity in our midst.

Yori Boy and Mayorga dropped Tito too, but he got up to beat their asses. Its not how many times you get knocked down its how many times you get back up and Tito got up every time except against Bernard Hopkins at 160.
-
Re: "Sugar" Shane Mosley retires!
Kirkland Laing would have beaten Tito with a spliff in one glove and a can of Special Brew in the other. Fact. Ask Roberto Duran.
Look... I'm just offerring statistical data that Tito has a very slim chance of beating Shane. My argument is based on factual evidence pertaining to Tito's china-chin. It's undeniable that he got knocked over numerous times by fighters far below Shane Mosley's caliber.
The indisputable facts indicate that a man with a chin as weak as Tito's would not survive in the highest level on a consistent basis. This is what the figures are displaying. Fact.
-
Re: "Sugar" Shane Mosley retires!
You can claim "factual evidence" all you want, Fenst. Fact is, you're once again displaying your glaring ignorance about boxing. Tito got knocked down several times during his career, not because of a "china-chin", as you claim... but due to poor balance in many of his early fights. How else to explain how he would immediately get up and kick the shit out of the other fighter?
Please don't just take my word for it, since I know you don't believe anything I say. Just look at Hulk's post below, as he also tries to explain it to you.

If a fighter is "consistently" getting knocked down against "weak" opposition then it's perfectly rational to conclude that against stronger opposition the fighter being downed is less likely to survive.
This is pure 100% mathematical data verified by an extensive observation of nature at work. Fact.
The science indicates that Shane knocks Tito out. Don't shoot the messenger. Fact.

Re: "Sugar" Shane Mosley retires!
I've only ever seen one Trinidad fight and that makes me an expert on him to the extent I feel like I can bang on for fifteen pages about how shit he was. I watched a shot Roy Jones batter the fuck out of him so I don't have to watch another minute of Trinidad's career, he was obviously a great big pile of shite. I'll leave it to The Fenster to deal with the actual substantive arguments, I'm just going to keep pointing out how shit Trinidad was ad infinitum.
-
Re: "Sugar" Shane Mosley retires!
Shane Mosley was the embodiment of courage in the ring. Every time I hear the word, I think Jesus and Sugar Shane Mosley. He never backed down and stood his ground against the overwhelming opposition of time, whether he was winning or losing.
The heart of a lion and the killer instinct of a panther, I salute thee.

Re: "Sugar" Shane Mosley retires!
I am sure Fenster is winding you up Tito.
Shane was a great lightweight but never at welterweight. Mosley was good but Tito destroyed all at welterweight and light middle, where Shane was even less effective. Tito may have been put down but he had devastating power, whilst I believe Shane would have seen the score cards he would have lost the fight against Tito. Shane would try and box and move like Oscar did but would not be big and tall enough to execute the game plan that Bernard did at middleweight.
-
Re: "Sugar" Shane Mosley retires!
I think Shane would of knocked him out i mean only seen shane hurt bad once and that was after a head butt and he still went on. I mean Shane did hell of a lot better against Oscar and Wright. I mean Tito depend a lot on his power and Shane about the hardest fucker to knock out and he hits like a truck. The only time Shane lost was mayeb he was out boxed but Tito could not do that in a million years. Tito was a good fighter but his best win was a gift and when he moved up to fight guys his own size he lost pretty clearly.

If anyone could hurt Shane, it was Tito, his power was unreal.

This - come on..stop biting, Tito. Fenster's about as funny and transparent as a box jellyfish. I would say ignore him and he might go away but..we all know he lives here..
For the record, I think that would have been a good fight. Both guys could punch and both guys can be outboxed. It would be an all action affair. In my head, Shane edges it by getting off before Tito during their exchanges over and over.

Are you kidding? I'm starting to look forward to Fenster's outlandish bullshit. It amuses me. He comes off more and more ignorant each time, and I have a little fun in the process. Fenster likes to rattle the cages once in awhile... and then come back and see what insults have been hurled at him. I rather enjoy calling him out on his ignorance, especially given that somehow he's a moderator in this otherwise flawless forum.
For the record, I think Tito takes it over Shane... but it would be a beautiful fight to see.
You see.... the real explanations and arguments I save for the sane people on the forum. The insults and the general bullshit I save for characters such as Fenster and his sidekick Kirkland Laing.
;)

You have any thoughts of your own? Or do you get them from sucking on Fenster's dick?
No offense, of course.
-
Re: "Sugar" Shane Mosley retires!
Yet again he fails to answer a single boxing related question posed by The Fenster and offers nothing but insults.
@TitoFan
Do you not agree that a fighter who has suffered numerous knock downs against B/C-grade opposition is potentially at greater risk against A-grade opposition? It's as simple as 2+2 = 4.
I am merely providing a standard mathematical structure that encompasses the laws of probability. Fact.
