Mayweather - Cotto 2, December 1st, MGM Grand
Just reading fightnews, and it says that this is going to happen. What do you think about this? I loved the first fight and thought it was good for the fans, but I just can't see Cotto winning IMO.

I have one question. Why?
-
Re: Mayweather - Cotto 2, December 1st, MGM Grand
yeah i enjoyed the first andi like cotto but he wasnt really in the first as in close to winning
id rather see mayweather hatton 2 with a different ref ;D
-
Re: Mayweather - Cotto 2, December 1st, MGM Grand
why the hell would cottos team want him in another 1 sided fight and see him takin another beating
-
It will be like the first fight with a similar outcome, it's just a money making rematch. I think Cotto should go after Canelo or Trout, somebody of that calibre and rebuild his name and maybe rematch Floyd down the line. I don't see the point in an
Immediate rematch, it was pretty clear Floyd won so why does he needs to prove it again in his next fight? Weird...
-
Boxingscene is simply stating that dec 1st is cottos return date, so you have to think about the credibility of the fightnews source, with Floyd being in jail.

Yeah it's probably just someone throwing Floyds name out there. I wouldn't mind seeing it again but I doubt the result would be any different unless Mayweather puts his foot down and stops Cotto.

Didn't watch the Cotto-Mayweather fight did you?
I'm fine with it, I don't expect the result to be much different, but you know Cotto is going to give it 100% vs whoever he fights. I would have thought Floyd would have gone after Canelo, but seeing how there's a bit of bad luck being tied to being Canelo's next opponent Cotto seems like the right choice from a luck perspective. Martinez would have been a good choice too.

Warrior Cotto is dead. It's Money Miguel now. Cotto no longer cares rather he wins or loses. It's only about the money for him now. The old warrior Cotto would of never coward out of a fight against Saul Alvarez like Money Miguel did. Sad.

yea cause beating up Cotto's leftovers should have earned Alvarez a shot against him? lol VD you're always so full of shit bro, let Canelo fight someone who ISN'T SHOT beyond shit, Canelo "I love leftovers" Alvarez has yet to face a top 5 guy, cause sorry Cintron and Mosley don't count :-X, let him fight Lara, Trout, Molina, or even Martirosyan, all of them are a step up to the crap he's been fighting

Ha! Cotto is coming off a clear cut loss and doesn't even hold a title. Yet now muthafukkas need to "earn" a shot to face him? Get the fuck on with that bullshit. That's some of the dumbest shit I ever read.
Fighters now must "earn" there shot to face a fighter coming off a loss. Fucking hilarious

he lost to the man who is considered P4P #1 in the world, he didn't go ahead and fight a washed up fighter who hadn't won in over 2 yrs, Canelo needs Cotto not vice versa, that's why the ginger is the one who has to EARN the shot, either way the only Cotto that the ginger will hold a W against is Jose Miguel, and even in that fight he was almost sparked :-X

Re: Mayweather - Cotto 2, December 1st, MGM Grand
As much as the first Mayweather versus Cotto fight was a good fight, the outcome was predictable, and the second fight will be even more so. taking into consideration that Cotto has reached a point in his career that he is strictly fighting big money fights, Cotto versus Canelo is the fight that should happen on 12/1. It has Puerto Rico versus Mexico drama. It's a great fight. Of course, Martinez is the real fight for Cotto, but Cotto ducked him before, and he'll do it again.

Yet again you show your ignorance and how little you really know about the sport. Alvarez is about to headline his first PPV as the A player. With or without Money Miguel. He already has his established fan base and is considered a cash cow. He don't need Cotto. He wants Cotto. But Cotto don't want him. Cuz he knows the beating that awaits him. You can spit all the little gay excuses you want. But bottom line is this. Alvarez-Cotto would be big and make a lot of money. And it's clearly more interesting than Mayweather-Cotto 2

I agree with VD that Cotto-Alvarez is more appealing than Mayweather-Cotto 2, but as for Cotto being washed up and a schooling awaits him in an Alvarez fight, I have to disagree. I think Cotto would beat Alvarez going off his last performance against Floyd. By no means is Cotto washed up and he is still the 2nd best fighter at 154. Hes a lot more experienced than Canelo, and I just think he is better.
This rematch with Mayweather hasnt been agreed yet though, and I think Cotto should look at his options for December, I would love him to fight Alvarez. Cotto needs to stay well clear of Mayweather unless who is really just looking for the money. We will see, I think he has the potential to beat anybody at 154 other than Floyd, so he should be going for the Trouts, Canelos etc as I was saying before. I believe we still have a lot more to see in Cotto and hes not over yet, your stupid if you believe that he is.

Re: Mayweather - Cotto 2, December 1st, MGM Grand
For the moment, it seems more like some kind of rumors rather than anything else. The only thing we know? It's Cotto's return. Floyd's one of the many names thrown in the hat at this point.

I agree Cotto is after the most money possible for the last few fights of his career. He said so himself. Can you blame him? If he did turn down a fight against Alvarez it was because he was going to get the fight with Mayweather. If this Mayweather rematch does come off he can fight Alvarez on the Cinco De Mayo next year and have three huge money PPVs in a row.
You know this anyway, you're just shit-stirring to wind up the Puerto Ricans on the board. :)

no he's just having a public tantrum because Mayweather considered Canelo for an opponent for about 5 minutes then turned to Cotto, for a fight on 5 de Mayo to boot, yet now he'll probably go as far as to say that Mayweather is now scared of the ginger as well :-X
-
Re: Mayweather - Cotto 2, December 1st, MGM Grand
For both Mayweather and Cotto the longer they wait for Canelo to get established the more money they make when they fight him. A pre-Mosley Canelo is nothing like the same size fight as Mayweather. A post-whoever he fights next Canelo is an established PPV fighter with a massive following, provided he wins of course. He's going to make much more money for Floyd or Cotto then. Floyd doesn't have too many fights left in him and I would guess he wants in reverse order Cotto, Canelo and Manny. Who else is going to match the kind of numbers those fights could make?
-
Re: Mayweather - Cotto 2, December 1st, MGM Grand
I can't see Mayweather being ready by then for any fight. And it really means nothing if Mayweather beats him again anyways. The way Mayweather picks his opponents I just can't see it being made. Cotto should go after the winner of Bundrage vs Spinks and maybe that will entice Floyd for an early 2013 fight. And end the year with a unification match with Canelo in the fall.
-
Re: Mayweather - Cotto 2, December 1st, MGM Grand
I do not see the sense in a rematch other than it made a lot of money. Just because it made a lot of money the first time does not mean it will the second time and just because it will be fought on the Eastside does not mean it will be closer. This is a silly return and cries of greed. Both men should move on to other challenges. This is ridiculous rematch. Cotto is a one armed boxer who relies on his conditioning and boxing skills to beat these bigger fighters. So it will be more interesting if he fight Saul and other champions in the division.

at least Mayweather is willing to give Cotto a fair rematch, unlike Pacquiao who wanted yet another catchweight fight
-
Re: Mayweather - Cotto 2, December 1st, MGM Grand
What's all the uproar about? All I've read from Cotto is that he set a date of Dec 1st for his comeback to the ring. To my knowledge, the opponent has yet to be decided. Canelo is set to fight on Sept 15, but doesn't have an opponent due to a run of bad luck. Granted, I myself don't see the outcome being any different in a Cotto-Mayweather rematch, although in boxing anything's possible. But Cotto is the mega-star here.... not Canelo. Canelo doesn't call the shots or makes the dates. That distinction belongs to Cotto. When Canelo has earned it.... then he can call the shots. If Canelo wants Cotto, he can decide to fight on Dec 1st, for the money he can expect to earn in a Cotto fight. Nothing complicated about that.

You wanna see a hypocrite? Look in the fucking mirror. That fag staring back at you is the hypocrite. I told you before your not a boxing fan. Your a Cotto fan. You pretend otherwise but it's pitiful how transparent you really are. Your quick to bad mouth Alvarez when he fought Kermit Cintron and Shane Mosley. Saying there shot and he should be fighting better fighters. Yet when Alvarez expresses a desire to face the best fighters around his weight (Mayweather and Cotto) you come up with moronic shit that he has to "earn" his shot. Stupid shit just for the sake of hating

Actually, Schaeffer said that the fight won't be PPV if they don't get a big enough name as an opponent (e.g., a Cotto). Because Alvarez is not big enough to sell a PPV on his own. It will be on regular HBO, Showtime or potentially CBS (which would be awesome). Nobody's paying money for Canelo/Bundrage, man. At this point, Cotto is definitely still a bigger name than Alvarez. Cotto-Alvarez would be the best fight at 154 though. Too bad no one's even talking about making it. We'll get crap instead -- though it's not Canelo's fault all 3 of the better opponents have pulled out.
I'll be happily surprised if they make Alvarez/Martirosyan. More likely we'll get a garbage fight with Bundrage or Trout.
And I don't think there's anything to this supposed 12/1 rematch.

Cotto is a one armed boxer who relies on his conditioning and boxing skills to beat these bigger fighters. So it will be more interesting if he fight Saul and other champions in the division.
I agree with this but I don't see any other interesting options for Floyd in 2012. Martinez would be the absolute best fight to make but it's undoable with him fighting Junior in September. And obviously a Pac fight isn't happening now. Really no other interesting opponent. Alvarez is way too green for him, as GBP admits. And Floyd would get shit on for fighting someone like Khan.

That's some of the dumbest shit I ever read.

he lost to the man who is considered P4P #1 in the world, he didn't go ahead and fight a washed up fighter who hadn't won in over 2 yrs, Canelo needs Cotto not vice versa, that's why the ginger is the one who has to EARN the shot, either way the only Cotto that the ginger will hold a W against is Jose Miguel, and even in that fight he was almost sparked :-X
With the 3 pullouts, Cotto is pretty much the only big name around that can make it a big PPV. But he don't wanna fight. So pulling it off PPV would be the smart idea. Especially if Chavez-Martinez does indeed happen.
There is no way Alvarez-Martirosyan happens. Cuz every time it's time for Martirosyan to fight some one with a pulse he pulls out. Bundrage is set to fight Spinks. That's set. So it won 't be him. Trout would indeed be a garbage fight

What are you basing your statement that Cotto is a Mega/bigger Star on? I know he's the veteran and most likely the more known fighter but I would think that Canelo is just a big of a draw as Cotto just based on numbers, there are after all more Mexicans than Puerto Ricans so it wouldnt be too off base to think that the PPV numbers for a Canelo PPV would be the same or more as a Cotto PPV. In terms of the live gate only in New York would Cotto be able to bring out a bigger crowd.

at least Mayweather is willing to give Cotto a fair rematch, unlike Pacquiao who wanted yet another catchweight fight
But we have not heard anything from Floyd yet and it is all rumor. And yes I give Floyd alot of credit if he does decide to fight Cotto again. I just don't see the purpose besides the money. I personally think Mayweather should get Bradley in the ring and end his career fighting Canelo. But who knows maybe Miss Jackson is bleeding his fortune buying shoes and everything else so he has to fight more for the money.

I'm gonna pull the "Mexican" card for the first time, since VD does it all the time in reverse and nobody calls him on it. You Mexicans are too hilarious for words. So now Canelo is a bigger star than Cotto because there are more Mexicans than Puerto Ricans?!? Really? Did you honestly say that?
Man.... I don't have to call you guys "idiots". You do a pretty good job of demonstrating that yourselves. And then VD chimes in. I swear the only time VD comes out of his hole in the ground is when a Mexican does good, or a Puerto Rican does bad. But lately he's been pretty quiet. Not a peep about Baby Chavez and his doping suspicions/controversy.... not a word when Margacheato went and retired. He only pops up to spout some racist shit, get his ass handed to him by me..... and crawls back into anonimity for a few weeks.
Must be that "baseball bat to the wrist" injury acting up again. Hilarious post if you've never seen it. (LMAO!!)
Hey bro. If the situation was reversed... and Canelo had the boxing pedigree and record Cotto has.... and Cotto was the 21-year old up-and-coming upstart..... you and VD would be frothing at the mouth if anyone dared say Cotto was the bigger star. But you both are so slanted toward Mexicans, it's downright funny.
But I gotta say... you both keep the forum from becoming boring sometimes, with your shit.

beating? lol Canelo looked flat against a small shot Shane Mosley, you go on burning other fighters for just beating up nobodies and shot over the hill fighters yet as always you're here just throwing roses at Canelo lol fucking hypocrite, as I said, the only Cotto that Alvarez would ever hold a W against is Jose, Miguel Cotto stomps the ginger easier than he beat the cheating fuck lol
Stupid shit just for the sake of hating
hahahaha really bro? you of all people are gonna try and call ANYONE a fucking fanboy?! lol there are plenty of other fighters around at 154 that Alvarez could have fought instead of Hatton, Rhodes, Gomez, Cintron, and Mosley lol when that's your last 5 opponents well it tells the true story when there are guys like Kirkland, Trout, Molina, Lara, even Martirosyan, Angulo, and Quintana are a step up to his last five opponents, I'm not blaming Alvarez for his next fight cause he did go after at least two good fights and it's not his fault that both went flat (Williams had the accident and Kirkland was injured) but the fact that he was waiting for a smaller guy to get a win and be his next opponent says all you need to know, why the fuck fight Ortiz instead of any of the aforementioned opponents? it's as simple as this apart from fanbase (and he hasn't even headlined a fight card even on a minor PPV) what separates Canelo from anyone at 154 other than Cotto and Mayweather, that's right not a damn thing

or the fact that he hasn't fought on an undercard since 2004 when he fought N'Dou on the undercard of Pacquiao/JMM I, and that he's headlined 8 PPV's how can you say Canelo brings in the big bucks (PPV-wise) when he's never headlined one ;D

Canelo is a bigger star because he is only 21 years old and is champion and headlining his own ppv's. He is undefeated hungry and young beating every challenge ( even if they arn't too challenging ) put in front of him. He was lined up to face some good fighters in Paul Williams , Kirland , and Ortiz so you can't really blame him for the opposition that he has gone against. Cotto on the other hand is no longer a warrior losing all of his big fights except for the one against the half-handicapped Antonio Margarito. He had a good fight with Mayweather but I doubt he has any other performances like that left. Based on those FACTS right now at the moment Canelo is a bigger star. Has nothing at all to do with ethnicity I don't know why you all always bring that into the discussion.

He had a good fight with Mayweather but I doubt he has any other performances like that left. Based on those FACTS right now at the moment Canelo is a bigger star. Has nothing at all to do with ethnicity I don't know why you all always bring that into the discussion.
Canelo has yet to headline any ppv. My best guess is that if you took a random survey of Americans, more people would have heard of Cotto than Canelo. I'm sure that will change but he's not there yet. It's fine -- as you said, he's only 21.
