Cleverly fights Vyacheslav Uzelkov because Hopkins and Froch bottle it. Fact.
This highlights everything that is WRONG with boxing. Genuine world champions like Cleverly get disgracefully ducked by old frauds like Hopkins and Froch.
You have to feel sorry for Clev and Frank Warren.
"The main target was American great Bernard Hopkins but after I agreed terms with his promoter Golden Boy, he pulled out. We’ll look to resurrect the fight next year.
IBF world supermiddleweight champion Froch turned down a huge purse to step up a division to take on Cleverly."

Most bizarre statement ever! Froch was literally Begging JC for a fight yet he ducks cleverley! Froch who has fought reid, pascal, taylor, direll, abraham, kessler, johnson, ward and bute is ducking a part time welsh student? Froch has his career path set from here onwards and cleverley is not a part of it...Froch and cleverley is not really a much asked for fight anyway!
Hopkins is done i think, although i still think he'd be a tough ask for anyone. I don't want to watch hopkins fight anymore though. He's cringeworthy at times...
Cleverley needs to get someone like campillio or diaconu, hell even jurgen braehmer under his belt because first. His best win is tony bellew in which he boxed a very mature fight, but both bellew and cleverley are untested (both very talented though) Both need to get a decent win before calling out the likes of froch. Mack is just froch keeping active and his fans happy until the contracted bute rematch...i think bute would beat cleverley and carl certainly would.
So sorry but Cleverley hasn't earned the right to fight any of the big gun's yet...Edison miranda or allan green would garner him a little more attention and he'd beat both but walk before u can run nathan, and get fuckin rid of frank warren!!!
P.S Let's not forget uzelkov did beat tomas adamek so he's not a bad fighter, just not the adamek id have liked though...lol
Re: Cleverly fights Vyacheslav Uzelkov because Hopkins and Froch bottle it. Fact.
Cleverly a genuine World champion,
hmm i see.
Re: Cleverly fights Vyacheslav Uzelkov because Hopkins and Froch bottle it. Fact.
Give Cleverly time, he had a war with Bellow and will fight the best later on. Although the longer it goes on the more silly he makes himself look.

Stumbled into the WBO title a bit, and he really needs to step up the opposition otherwise he'll start getting dismissed as the next Markus Beyer or Sven Ottke.
Re: Cleverly fights Vyacheslav Uzelkov because Hopkins and Froch bottle it. Fact.
Kind of a pointless wind up angle isn't it.... Who cares enough about Cleverly to bite either way on this?
Having said that, it would be refreshing to see him fight say Campillo or even Cloud and either lose his little trinket or actually warrant carrying it. I've never seen Uzelkov though, if he's half decent maybe he'll win and actually want to get in the mix.

If you read this forum every day and believe Fenster is genuine with threads like this then you're probably atop of that list yourself.
Re: Cleverly fights Vyacheslav Uzelkov because Hopkins and Froch bottle it. Fact.
Some of you are utterly clueless.
Cleverly worked his guts out to become world champion. Even though he's never beat a champion, or a former champion, he still beat great fighters to get his title - Mo Farahanalaby, Zudin Ambroscustardovic and Jimbo Ivelostmebacci.
They were teak tough fighters that have never been stopped.
Hopkins and Froch should be ashamed for "pricing themselves out" against a champ like Clev. Fact.
Deal with it.

Clearly not.
(irony is different to a "wind up".... not my fault this place is populated with divs)

Amusing.

and true ;D
Re: Cleverly fights Vyacheslav Uzelkov because Hopkins and Froch bottle it. Fact.
Joe Calzaghe , nice for him to be remembered I shall not rant, as you no were I stand on this matter.
Cleverly needs to fight, never heard of Uzelkov and hopefully some were down the line, he gets a
fight were people don't slag him off.
Re: Cleverly fights Vyacheslav Uzelkov because Hopkins and Froch bottle it. Fact.
I'd go as far as saying that 5 or 6 fights ago I was really excited when there was a Cleverley fight and was always looking forward to following him. Lost a lot of interest these days though and I quite simpy can't be the only one.
Remember reading a really good article on his potential and quality from Vivek Wallace a couple of years back, but that seems a real distant memory now. In some of his recent fights against Bellew and the Polish stand in fella, he genuinely looks like he is a knockout waiting to happen. When he hit top level he'll get smoked I reckon. Gets hit WAY too much and hasn't improved that, although there's still time for him to do so.
I reckon Warren quite simply isn't convinced he can beat the top tiers fighters, it's that simple.
Re: Cleverly fights Vyacheslav Uzelkov because Hopkins and Froch bottle it. Fact.
The fight i would like to see (although extremely unlikely) is groves v cleverley. It's kinda the british equivalent of ward v dawson albeit the brit's are much greener! Both fighters IMO are the 2 best british prospect's (if we are talking about fighters about to mix it in world circle's) the UK has....Both are fantastic talents and i think both have a bright future in there respective divisions, i think cleverley would have to come down to 168 though.
I missed fenster's sarcasm as i am fairly new to the forum and don't know the nuance's of certain poster's yet.
In regards to cleverley though i do think he has the potential to develop into an accomplished, complete world-class performer. He has all the athletic gifts – size, strength, speed, underrated power (when his technique is correct). But he now needs that expedient, that element which will elevate him.
Cleverley could benefit immensely from a trip to the US. While it’s true that America is far from the only place to obtain useful sparring, its status as a diverse cultural melting pot means a fighter can observe and learn to combat several different styles – from trademark Mexican pressure to hair-trigger Cuban counter-punching and myriad approaches in between – in one place. It worked for amir khan.
All in all i think you'll see the best of Cleverly when he fights a decent opponent IMO.
Re: Cleverly fights Vyacheslav Uzelkov because Hopkins and Froch bottle it. Fact.
I'm not even slating Cleverly.
I'm slating the ridiculous notion that a "world" champion isn't ready for the best and the nonsense that comes from his team about everyone turning down fights.
Masquerading as a "world" champion is good for business but it doesn't mean hardcore fans should swallow that nonsense.

So do not listen to the team Cleverly as it is a load of crap. I think Bellow would take the fight and the reality is they have offered crap money to Hopkins and Froch is not interested in going up.

Well considering this is a boxing forum I thought it was suitable to highlight that crap and discuss these matters here. Sorry.

No need to apologise, except for being sarcastic.
