Pork pie hats are cool but not very nice to eat, even with pickle. The South/Texas has what we call a chicken-pot-pie. Essentially a pie crust with a thick stew like material covered with a pastry/pie topping. I've never had one with anything other than chicken or turkey though. Seems a big difference in the cuisine is the UK crowd do a lot of meat in pastry where the South/Texas do a lot of meat/gravy over rice. The small sampling I've had of UK food was really good.

You can't beat a good pork pie but it's not exactly a health food with all that fat in. I generally get one for Christmas and I try and get one that's as lean as possible and has a bit of pepper in the seasoning.

A good pie is a very nice thing to eat and I did eat a fair few this summer. You can't go wrong with a simple steak pie and a bit of gravy.
I've had a go at making my own too and it's quite easy, but I don't eat them too often as I worry about all the butter that goes into it.
I like hot pork pies, makes them even tastier.
McDonald's recently published a guide to the UK. They described Pasty's as: a meat pie.
