Nonito Donaire vs. Jorge Arce Saturday night fight/chat thread
:pimp2: I imagine HBO will show the replay of Pac-JMM IV as well. Apparently Guillermo Rigondeaux vs. Poonsawat Kratingdaenggym was canceled, because Poon failed a blood test. :-\
I see we're back in my home-state of Texas again, yeehaw! (don't blame me ;) )
:bag:
Dec. 15
At Houston (HBO): Nonito Donaire vs. Jorge Arce, 12 rounds, for Donaire's WBO junior featherweight title.
As far as the fights: I believe Donaire will bust up and flatten Arce within 6 rounds (TKO), but while it lasts "The Lollypop Cowboy" will make a fight of it.
Who ya got?

As for Rigon vs. Poonstwat, I'll take a wild fucking guess say Rigon by 8th round KO.
Who ya got?
:drunks::thumb:
Agree with your calls. Mid-late stoppage for Rigo and Donaire. The Rigo-Poon fight is a more compelling match-up. Poon is a bit of a wild card.

Re: Nonito Donaire vs. Jorge Arce on HBO WCB Saturday
Rantcat,
I don't know anything about Poon, when I get a chance i'll find out some info on him and post it.
cheers

Re: Nonito Donaire vs. Jorge Arce on HBO WCB Saturday
Same as you. I'm thinking about picking Molina to upset Khan just because it might be the funniest thing ever if it happened. Can't remember seeing him fight though. He's moving up in weight and doesn't have much pop so I'm guessing he's been carefully picked to make Khan look good.

He can punch at bit, so he could make it a interesting for Rigondeaux, and Donaire to win in about
6 rounds.

Re: Nonito Donaire vs. Jorge Arce on HBO WCB Saturday
Rigo-Poon is a bit of inspired matchmaking so I'm looking forward to that one. Arce will take a heavy beating this weekend. I think a guy with Arce's style will be in serious trouble against a calculated puncher like Donaire. Tailor made.
-
Re: Nonito Donaire vs. Jorge Arce on HBO WCB Saturday
I think the main event is appalling and so won't bother with boxing this weekend. Donaire sends me to sleep anyway. It takes something special to keep me away from boxing and Donaire is that. Yawn.

fight.:o

Re: Nonito Donaire vs. Jorge Arce on HBO WCB Saturday
I guess no one is even giving Arce a chance... He's a cagey sob, and i think he will give Donaire problems mid/late if he can survive the early rounds when Nonito looks for the big shot.
I pick Arce for the Upset :)
The other one should be fun too. I'm looking forward to this card for some reason.

I agree that Arce is a solid opponent for Donaire, but I think Donaire will prevail.
Rigondeaux vs Poonsawat is the fight I really want to see. I hope Rigondeaux winds up on his ass, Poonsawat is solid and I hope he comes through for me. I hope, I hope, I hope!

Re: Nonito Donaire vs. Jorge Arce on HBO WCB Saturday
Anyone still remember the triple foul punch combo on Arce? I still wince thinking about it. That being said I really want Donaire to fight the winner of Mares/Rigo. God I just want Mares to get KO'd. The kid is nice and exciting but the stupefying amount of low blows (and no this is not my hatred for him because I thought Moreno would school him) he lands and gets away with is mind numbing.

I totally agree, plus Arce is easy to hit, his defense is his offense. Jorge is one of my favorite fighters but his ass is grass Saturday.

I love watching Khan get his ass kicked, War Molina! ;D
Pretty good card on Showtime Saturday:
At Los Angeles (Showtime): Amir Khan vs. Carlos Molina, 12 rounds, junior welterweights; Deontay Wilder vs. Kelvin Price, 10 rounds, heavyweights; Alfredo Angulo vs. Jorge Silva, 10 rounds, junior middleweights; Shawn Porter vs. Julio Diaz, 10 rounds, welterweights.
and also Saturday:
At Los Angeles (CBS): Leo Santa Cruz vs. Alberto Guevara, 12 rounds, for Santa Cruz's IBF bantamweight title.
Tons of fights for us fans Saturday, I may have to re-stock my beer section.

Re: Nonito Donaire vs. Jorge Arce on HBO WCB Saturday
Donaire's been bother all week about Pac losing. He claims he is not out to avenge pac against the Mexican Arce, I don't believe it though.
Poon is a step up for Rigo IMO and I am picking Poon.
-
Re: Nonito Donaire vs. Jorge Arce on HBO WCB Saturday
The "Rigo Cult" alleges Rigo is the next big thing. If Rigo wins big on Saturday against Poon, is it his coming out party? [That last sentence has a few too many double entrendres].

I used to be one of those cult members. Back when he first came on the scene and they were going to fast track him to the top because of his age and 400 amateur fights.
Maybe that's the issue. They cant get him out of amateur mode.

Santa Cruz is fighting this weekend. You can't not watch a Santa Cruz fight.

Re: Nonito Donaire vs. Jorge Arce on HBO WCB Saturday
Jorge Arce also has Angel Hernandez in his corner like Juan Manuel Marquez if I remember correctly. Does anybody have the latest Jorge Arce’s pictures? Just wondering if he is also ripped.

Re: Nonito Donaire vs. Jorge Arce on HBO WCB Saturday
The Donaire v Arce fight is on Box Nation which is a pleasant surprise! Now I am interested in this fight.

Re: Nonito Donaire vs. Jorge Arce Saturday night fight/chat thread
Nonito Donaire vs. Jorge Arce will likely be shown Saturday night after the re-play of Pac-JMM @9:30 PM ET here in the States and at 2:30 AM Sunday morning across the pond in the UK. Rigo-Poon has apparently been canceled, due to Poon failing a blood test.
Starts @10:30 PM ET Saturday night here in North America and @3:30 AM in the UK/Europe.
At Los Angeles (Showtime): Amir Khan vs. Carlos Molina, 12 rounds, junior welterweights; Deontay Wilder vs. Kelvin Price, 10 rounds, heavyweights; Alfredo Angulo vs. Jorge Silva, 10 rounds, junior middleweights; Shawn Porter vs. Julio Diaz, 10 rounds, welterweights.
and also Saturday:
Starts @4:30 PM ET here in North America and @9:30 PM in the UK/Europe for you Brits and other "foreigners" who might be interested.
At Los Angeles (CBS): Leo Santa Cruz vs. Alberto Guevara, 12 rounds, for Santa Cruz's IBF bantamweight title.
Even without Rigo-Poon it should be a good night of boxing.
cheers

Re: Nonito Donaire vs. Jorge Arce Saturday night fight/chat thread
I choose donaire to win. Arces' aggression might be his down fall, but that's always been his style. Wearing his opponents down. Donaire has footwork and ring generalship. I don't see a ok on donaires' part just out boxing arce. Easy UD for donaire. Angulo wins. He's been appreciative since his last fight for returning to the ring and has a niche to reign in his division. Amir is in for a test. This is where we get to see where Amir stands for his future in boxing.
Just my thoughts...

Re: Nonito Donaire vs. Jorge Arce Saturday night fight/chat thread
Can't say how awesome it is to see LIVE BOXING on one of the original 'free' networks, CBS! Think the last fight I saw on there was a Nate Campbell draw (??) and hope it becomes a norm again and breathe some variety back into the sport.
And and WAR ARCE :badass: Hope he brings a helmut

I enjoyed Amir's fight with Garcia even more then I did the one with Prescott, mainly because the beating lasted much longer. ;D
Carlos Molina will not be as easy fight for Khan, but he should prevail. (I hope not, hehe)

Nonito looking a little flabby.

Arce looks like he just swallowed the canary.

Seems like Donaire always looks out of shape or like he couldn't crack an egg.
Arce looks bigger, but it won't make any difference, he's way too easy to hit, and I don't think he can take Donaire's power.

Re: Nonito Donaire vs. Jorge Arce Saturday night fight/chat thread
I almost hate watching the re-play of Pac-JMM IV after the way Pac lost by getting knocked out cold. Gotta give Marquez a ton of credit, he's a great fighter.

He never looked that way at 115 or 118 brother. I agree though that Arce is just another Arum in house sacrificial lamb. Arce should go to the body early.

Re: Nonito Donaire vs. Jorge Arce Saturday night fight/chat thread
Donaire gets a million tonight. Arce gets $800 000.
Lost in the KTFO last week was a bit of comedy from the Top Rank announcers, who did a fantastic job of calling the knockout. Calling the fight were the magnificently-haircutted Benny Ricardo and granite-chinned Ulsterman Wayne McCullough who were presumably sitting at ringside. Here's a photograph of Benny's haircut for extra giggles :
http://www.livefight.com/images/page...y-ricardo.jpeg
Here's how it went down :
[The punch lands. Manny hits the canvas]
McCULLOUGH: What was that?
RICARDO: That was a right hand!
McCULLOUGH: No!
RICARDO: It was a right hand!
McCULLOUGH: It's over! It is over!
RICARDO: It's over! It was a right hand! What did I say?
McCULLOUGH: You called it. You called it.
:)

Donaire is most effective when he mixes his counter punching with aggression, Arce knows one way to fight, coming forward which will play right into Donaire's hands.

I watched a bit of Ricardo and Wayne McCullough doing an undercard fight, before finally finding the actual HBO PPV feed on a stream. Ricardo looks ridiculous, the absurd Jheri curls most go.
