Re: Welcome to Cain's era.
I actually fancied Cain in this one. There isn't a better all round Heavyweight in the world than Velasquez. Overeem will provide a slightly different set of problems but not something Cain can't deal with.
On a side note, I hear that if Werdum beats Nogueira he will get the Velasquez-Overeem winner so it should be a while before we get a 3rd fight.
Re: Welcome to Cain's era.
Overeem is going to be a dangerous fight for him, but if cain can get past the early explosiveness like he did with JDS, he'll maul Overeem. Overeem's muscled physique is going to go against him and make him gas out quick.
Re: Welcome to Cain's era.
Correction.
Welcome to the Reem era ! (hopefully) ;D
Re: Welcome to Cain's era.
I'm not really sure what Reem does better than JDS. He is probably a little more versatile of a striker but I don't think he has any more power and I don't think his handspeed/footwork is better. He is bigger and stronger but I don't think his tdd is tremendously better if at all. His cardio is what would worry me. Reem is a big talented striker so he isn't an easy out for Cain or JDS but my money would be on Cain.

Overeem will drop like a house of cards when he feel's Cain's power or he will gas and be thrown around for 5 rounds!

JDS probably has the better hands, but Overeem is much better at everything else. Cain is going to have to mind his P's and Q's against Overeem, because if he telegraphs his shot as much as he did against JDS, Reem can time him coming in with a knee. Reem is also stronger and more effective in the clinch. So getting inside on Reem will be much more dangerous, and once he is inside it won't be as easy to control Reem and avoid damage as it was with JDS.
That being said, if Cain can get inside and really push Reem, I think he'll wear Reem down quicker than he did JDS.
Overeem doesn't have as good a chin as JDS does, either.
It's a VERY interesting fight.
Re: Welcome to Cain's era.
I thought both men looked/are pretty crap. Dos Santos seemed to have no gas after about 45 seconds and he wasn't even throwing much before he tired out, then Velasquez basically couldn't get a rag doll out of there given 25 minutes. The UFC heavyweights make boxing look like it has depth:-X That was a shit fight between two toughmen to me.

My roomate had a bunch of people over and ordered it, how was I to know the main event would be so shit. I enjoyed a couple of the undercard fights for what they were.

You like hating on MMA yet you watch it? If you don't enjoy something why waste your time watching it? Why waste your time in the MMA section of the forum just to talk shit? Some people are fucking helpless.

Yes yes because you like Cain that automatically means that Reem is not a top heavyweight and would magically just be KO'd in less than a minute (the same way Cain himself was against JDS the first go round).
Cain, JDS, and Alistair are all top heavyweights and top strikers with enough power to knock each other out on any given night.
We'll see how Reem looks in his comeback against lop dick Silva, admittedly it will be hard for Reem to do much better against the mongoloid savage than Cain did.

I like Overeem I just don't see what he brings to the table that is better than JDS? Maybe more diverse striking but nothing on the ground.
Why do you dislike bigfoot?

Fair enough. I find him to be stronger, more explosive and a more diverse striker than JDS, but lacks the stamina, boxing and chin of Dos Santos. Reem is most def a kickboxer more than a boxer, he does have good takedown defense and brutal kicks and knees.
I don't like Bigfoot because he beat Fedor !!! ;D
I did root for Bigfoot last time out tho and was happy to see him get the win.

His big advantage IMO is his strength and technique in the clinch and his kicks/knees.
In the JDS fight, Cain was shooting wildly and wading in slowly to clinch. That's fine against JDS because he's a boxer who always plants his feet, so Cain only had to worry about two fists.
Against Reem, he's going to have to worry about catching a knee coming in. He's not safe on the outside and he's taking a huge risk when he tries to close the distance.
Re: Welcome to Cain's era.
If there is an overeem era does that not tell u how shit it is?? The guy is a bigtime juicer who did nothing in pride! (he should be banned for life!) Velasquez is the MMA equivalent of chris arreola.
