Fastest Hands in Boxing
Who currently has the best hand speed in boxing?
Also, who do you guys think had the fastest hands you ever saw, historically?
-
Re: Fastest Hands in Boxing
Hmm, cant think of his name but he was something like a bantam or feather then went up to something around welter and had a look of Mike Tyson facially. Fast hands, not alot of power and do e fuck all with the talent he has. Seems to have been around years as well. I think he came in stupidly overweight in a fight.
So fucking annoyed that I cant remember his name!!
-
Re: Fastest Hands in Boxing
Probably all time Roy Jones or Meldrick Taylor, at least off the top of my head for pure handspeed. Mosley at lightweight, or Terry Norris were also stupidly fast. Ray Leonard of course is up there, and Thommy Hearns probably had almost equivalent handspeed given his technique and leverage. A young Zab Judah was lightning as well, still has fast hands if not much else. Right now I couldn't really say for sure. In theory I'm sure it's someone who's really tiny, but for me the real killers are guys who put blinding speed behind powerful and technically sound punches. Maybe Donaire, or even Pacquiao until quite recently.

Re: Fastest Hands in Boxing
Yuriorkis Gamboa is a quick little guy. Roy Jones probably the p4p king in speed.

I'm surprised Rigondeaux's name has not been mentioned. Are my eyes deceiving me?

Re: Fastest Hands in Boxing
Gamboa, Amir Khan, Broner IMO.
Historically, p4p Roy Jones was the fastest IMO.
By p4p I mean if you could take an average punch speed for each weight division, and measure how much faster a fighter was above the average for his weight division, Roy Jones had the fastest hands in boxing history.

No, youd then be talking about Mike Tyson...

Re: Fastest Hands in Boxing
Nah, Roy Jones was faster for a LHW than Tyson was for a HW.

You fucking joking!
Using your criteria Mike has the fastest hands ever! Averaging other heavies speed against Mike makes him unbelievable! Even Alis hands weren't as fast!
-
Re: Fastest Hands in Boxing
Cassius Clay was faster than Tyson.

Where?
Prove it...

Re: Fastest Hands in Boxing
Look how slow tyson moves in your signature. Cassius is fastest!
-
Re: Fastest Hands in Boxing
In fact, I'll do you one better: I think Floyd Patterson had faster pure hand speed than both of them! Chew on that one.

Floyd would only be a cruiserweight now. Mike was a over a stone heavier than Patterson and was heavier than Ali when he was Cassius Clay.
A man of that size and weight who could create that speed is a genuine phenomenon.;)

No argument there. Speed and power, like a HW Julian Jackson.

Re: Fastest Hands in Boxing
I know that these have been said but for me Meldrick Taylor was the fastest over Jones, Tyson, Noriss.
Khan is the fastest I have seen as the top weight with Manny and Donnaire too.
-
Re: Fastest Hands in Boxing
*if we can go to any era..Howard Davis is considered by most experts to be the fastest...
Meldrik Taylor was fast..
young sugar ray...
-
Re: Fastest Hands in Boxing
Watched footage of Meldrick and Roy again and I'm gonna have to give it to Roy ... Meldrick would spit out more prolific combinations with 8 or 9 punches in sequence but Roy was just a freak who moved so fast it was hard for anyone to even react ... even in slow motion this guy was fast ...
Literally had alien speed and was VERY accurate ... Taylor longer combos made it look like he had faster hands but Roy was actually getting clean shots in with his combos, unlike Meldrick. Even besides that, I think his hands were faster anyway.

Re: Fastest Hands in Boxing
Top form Johhny Tapia was faster than a Khan, no doubt.
Mark 'too sharp' Johnson was one of the fastest I've seen though short lived. Taylor rolled speed off speed where Jones had instant reflex and one-two stopping power.
-
Fastest hand speed or fastest speed of though? Cause you can have great hand speed but not the best reaction time to use those fast hands.

I agree but Tyson was quick and much better on the inside. IMO

Re: Fastest Hands in Boxing
Right now it is Amir Khan.
Historically I'd say Jones Jr, Patterson, Ali, Pacquiao
-
Re: Fastest Hands in Boxing
Surprised Camacho's name hasn't come up.
Perhaps he was so fast none of you even saw it...
-
Re: Fastest Hands in Boxing
Camacho had lightning in his gloves
-
Re: Fastest Hands in Boxing
Currently, Gary Russell Jr even though he's pampered and only fights washed up Mexicans..
Russell and Donaire and some blistering hand speeds..
-
Joe calzaghe , Kessler said after their fight " his punches don't hurt but he hits you like 20 times" now that's fast

Those weren't punches though

Re: Fastest Hands in Boxing
I keep thinking of Roy's fight with Pazienza, he was throwing triple and quadruple jabs in the blink of an eye, and the precise speed of the combo that took out Paz.
-
Re: Fastest Hands in Boxing
think it was in that fight actually that he landed 6 left hooks in a row.

Yeah, you can do that when you havent got to worry about anything coming back;)
Even Herol Graham beat Pazienza fairly easy.

What are you talking about when you say even Herol Graham beat Paz easily? Graham would have battered Benn, Eubanks, Watson and Collins in the same night and have enough energy to shag the wife when he got home.

Not with that fucking chin hes not;D
He'd probably get knocked out going down on his missus!
Also, Eubank knocked Graham out in sparring;)

And Graham got back up and spanked Eubanks so badly that he avoided him, never vowing to fight him again. :)

Re: Fastest Hands in Boxing
Graham was unfortunate to not win a title but unfortunately for him he just wasnt good enough. He had an awkward style but he did get clipped and that was his downfall against every world class fighter he fought and Benn and Eubank would both have found that chin.
Eubanks rematch against Watson and Benns against McClellan proved they can both fight back when being outboxed or battered.

No one has Julian Jackson like power, even Benn. I am not saying that they would not catch Graham but he would have beaten both Benn and Eubanks who do have heart and determination but at his peak Graham boxing skills were world class. Have you watched his fight with Rod Douglas, that was artistic beating that ended Rod’s career and he was the amateur nemesis of Benn.
