Canelo: I will be facing Austin Trout on May 4th
-
Re: Canelo: I will be facing Austin Trout on May 4th
Great news although boxingscene has been known to say fights were done when they weren't.
I got Trout in this one and it certainly is a great style match up.
-
Re: Canelo: I will be facing Austin Trout on May 4th
Mad respect to Alvarez for taking this fight!
Trout all day!
-
Re: Canelo: I will be facing Austin Trout on May 4th
This is how it should be and what Champions do. Trout has earned his spot.
-
Re: Canelo: I will be facing Austin Trout on May 4th
I'm thinking Alvarez wins this fight, Trout caught Cotto at the right time, but against Canelo he won't be so lucky.

I disagree. I feel Trout will be too good

I'm really undecided about this one. If the Trout that beat Cotto shows up, things are going to be bad for Alvarez, but if theTrout shows up that beat Rodriquez I'm not sure who wins.
-
It does not matter what Trout turns up, Canelo stops him early and emphatically. Saul is a good and improving boxer on his way towards greatness. Take away the supposed level of his opponents and actually watch his ability. He is mature and nuanced enough as a boxer to adjust and react to whatever happens on the night. IMHO.
-
At last. May 4th is looking good
-
Re: Canelo: I will be facing Austin Trout on May 4th
Trout by unanimous decision. Wrong move for Canelo with a Floyd fight on the horizon. The real question will be whether Floyd will face Trout when Trout wins.
-
Re: Canelo: I will be facing Austin Trout on May 4th
One thing for sure, this is a great match up and this is definitely a fight worth being seen. Trout hits like an anvil and Canelo sure has a great jaw, this one will be all fireworks and for the moment, I'd tend to think that Canelo would take it in a very tight decision.

I think Trout is being seriously over looked in this one. I agree on Canelos poise and boxing but I attribute that to maturity and frankly him having nothing but one way traffic. I love Lopez to death but honestly, he didn't have a shot. The hardest Canelo has been boxed and eaten a jab was...? Gomez ??? Trout has also gained knowledge of himself off the Cotto win and he's a cutey and can box. He's not going to go in and just fall over in awe of Alvarez and be taken out of his game plan once he gets hit. I think Canelo is putting on his big boy pants here and will get all he can handle and then some. Today I'm going Calelo 12dec.

Disagree all you want @Galaxy, I still say Canelo kicks Trout's ass.
-
Re: Canelo: I will be facing Austin Trout on May 4th
Good to see this happening, I think it's going to be almost all Canelo though. I think Trout was made to look a little better than he is against Cotto, who was really listless and never got anything going. Trout for me doesn't have the accuracy or snap in his shots to really keep Canelo off of him, and he wont want to fight inside in this one.
-
Re: Canelo: I will be facing Austin Trout on May 4th
It's a fight that Alvarez doesn't have to take so we have to respect that. If he loses he is good enough and young enough to rebuild a HoF career.
Not yet decided.
-
Re: Canelo: I will be facing Austin Trout on May 4th
Statement fight for Alvarez. And he'll make one by stopping Trout in the middle rounds
-
Re: Canelo: I will be facing Austin Trout on May 4th
This is a big fight for both guys, really excited & glad to see it happening
I've got Trout out-boxing Alvarez to a UD

@IamInuit,
I think a lot of you are underrating Alvarez and overrating Trout because of his size and win over Cotto, Canelo will kick Austin's ass, mark it down. (no sig bet ;) )
-
Re: Canelo: I will be facing Austin Trout on May 4th
I find this hard to believe. His management have taken zero risks with Alvarez and he's been let's say carefully matched on his road to a defining fight. Up to now the best boxer he's fought has been Archie Solis. So they're now one fight away from a gigantic Mayweather payday and they're going to risk it by facing Trout? Hard to see.
Hats off to him if it's true.
-
Re: Canelo: I will be facing Austin Trout on May 4th
if Canelo wins this one then I'll will give him a lot of prop for beating an actual solid opponent, if he loses I'll still respect him for actually doing what a champion is suppose to do.
That being said, I'll put down 300 on Trout soon as I see the odds.

Not underrating him at all. I'm just not overrating him.

Gomez, ryan rhodes, matthew hatton are respected fighters but trout is a big step up for canelo.

You have it backwards Canelo hits like an anvil and Trout is not going to keep Canelo off of him like Cotto. Canelo is going to beat that body down and then KO Trout in the 7-8th round. Trout: 14 ko's in 26 fight does not merit hits like an anvil. Canelo hits way harder then Cotto and has more energy in the tank ! Actually this is the stage where Canelo becomes a true superstar! Canelo is going to destroy Trout. Canelos' bad luck streak with opponents losing ...... Trout is going to be the victim and pay a heavy price ! Canelo saw the Cotto fight in person and will not be taking Trout easy. Canelos bad luck with opponents losing will continue as this time after a fight not before as his destruction of Trout will scare off FMJ ..........

Canelo hasn't fought ONE top ten junior middleweight. Trout can make fights ugly by pot shots and moving. He's had far better experience and he's a bigger man. Trout rolls to a unanimous decision.

Agreed. Alvarez has definitely improved & is becoming a very decent fighter. But Trout is a whole different ball game.
Those saying that Trout caught Cotto at the right time, need to realize that Cotto gave Mayweather one of his toughest fights only months before, but once Trout got him he's slipped? Nigga please! It was Trout that made Cotto look that way & he deserves all the credit for it!
I don't think Canelo has fought anyone near Trout's ability, who can box & spoil. Both guys will be tested but Alvarez will be the one exposed...

Cotto was a little battle worn but he and Alvarez share a very similar style and Trouts style was bad for Cotto and it will be the same frustrating style for Alvarez. I keep having flashbacks of Matthew Hatton. Had he had any pop he may have had Alvarez in trouble several times. Some claim he has been showing steady improvement. Against whom, a Sugar Shane that has not pulled the trigger for about two years. This is another example of a carefully guided career full of predetermined results running into roadblocks. In fairness it could also prove to be an example of a fighter silencing his critics. Its certainly no forgone conclusion that Trout wins this.
-
Re: Canelo: I will be facing Austin Trout on May 4th
I'll agree that Cotto was probably a little worn, but I still base my opinion of a fighter on his last performance, & in his last fight (Floyd) before the Trout fight he looked very good imo
There were folks calling for Cotto/ Alvarez prior to the Trout fight, many saying Cotto would be the one to expose Canelo, but once Trout made Cotto look very ordinary their story changed to Cotto was this & that & discredit the performance that Trout gave
Trout is a very good fighter & I think his jab alone will be one of Canelo's biggest hurdles
I agree this is not a forgone conclusion, to me it could be a very evenly matched competitive bout
-
Re: Canelo: I will be facing Austin Trout on May 4th
In any event this should be a good scrap for us fans to look forward to May 4th. Both pugs are the same size, are around the same height & reach, and both are undefeated. So somebody's '0' has got to go, I say it's Trout's but we shall see.
cheers

Re: Canelo: I will be facing Austin Trout on May 4th
A compelling fight. I'd probably look into seeing this live!

One cannot be wrong until after the fact or the fight.
Nice try. Thanks for coming out. Lets revisit it May 5th.

Re: Canelo: I will be facing Austin Trout on May 4th
Alot of the people I respect on here picking Trout in this one. I'm going to disagree. I think Canelo is a special fighter and I wasn't impressed by Trout before the Cotto fight. Against Cotto he was great, but part of me feels that was down to Cotto's lack of power at 154 being unable to make a dent. Canelo is a hard puncher at 154 and will be on Trout from bell 1. So I say Canelo by decision but as time draws near I may change this and be bold and say Canelo stops him late.

Re: Canelo: I will be facing Austin Trout on May 4th
Trout frustrated Cotto who does not have the legs he used to, Canelo is young quick and hungry. His left hook is big and at some point Alvarez will figure Trout out and drop him with it. Canelo may not up until know have had the hardest of opponents, but he also has not walked through them. He has learnt in Every fight, from getting tagged by Jose Cotto to dealing with a cut against Mosely he has thought and adapted, improving with every fight. He knows when to finish people off, when to stand and trade, how to cut down the ring and how to box from a distance. Trout's gameplan against Cotto was a stroke of genius but he will not be able to pop in and out against Saul without sustaining much more serious punishment. Cotto ain't completely finished, but Floyd took his fifth gear away and Trout capitalised on that.

Slight difference in weight though.
I think Trout wins the fight and Alvarez gets the decision.
