Its different in Australia.
I know they dress all in black and are sad fuckers, but I would put Goths in a separate category than Emos.
Goths pierce, emos cut themselves.
Out here anyway Goths stand on their own, its quite a culture they have going, some make a fortune and they are not sad bastards they love life.

Re: "Emos" now protected by "hate crime" laws
no, in Manchester they now categorising such abuse as a hate crime, same for anyone singled out for being part of a cultural sub-group.
Manchester police to record attacks on goths, emos and punks as hate crimes | UK news | The Guardian
First emo hate crime arrests in Manchester | UK news | The Guardian
And it stems from this:
The police made the decision in consultation with the Sophie Lancaster Foundation, a charity named after a 20-year-old goth who died in 2007 after she and her boyfriend were attacked as they walked home through Stubbeylee Park, Bacup. Lancaster suffered severe head injuries and never regained consciousness.
Her killers were sentenced in 2008, and the judge recognised her death as a hate crime because they were targeted for being goths.

Re: "Emos" now protected by "hate crime" laws
Being goth or emo is not like race, you can choose to dress and act like an asshole you can't pick your race

Just to clarify, are you saying that all goths and emos dress and act like assholes?
If I was picking my race it would be the fifty metre beer necking sprint.
-
Re: "Emos" now protected by "hate crime" laws
Yes they dress and act like assholes. Also where's the line? When does someone start being goth or emo as opposed to just some person who is wearing black?

I remember back when there was 1 set of laws. I'm a white heterosexual male who is a Christian....anyone who attacks me won't be charged with a hate crime

Where and when exactly do you think it was Lyle, that you changed over from the guy with a set of conservative beliefs, to a walking talkin typin caricature of yourself? I mean, it definitely happened. Just wondering where and why.

Is this law not odd in the slightest way to you? Does it not display the idiotic nature of hate crime legislation? Assault is assault, murder is murder the WHY of crime is not relevant! If I kill an emo because I hate them vs if I kill an emo just because I don't care for this one kid who happens to be emo the end result is the same the emo is dead, what's hate crime legislation going to do then? Kill me twice? Incarcerate me for more than my life?
When did everyone lose their common sense?
-
Re: "Emos" now protected by "hate crime" laws
I've never really understood why assault, murder or rape were some how worse or deserved more punishment b/c of the who the victim was. Seems like laws put in place to create divisiveness and pander for votes.

Stop being a caricature of yourself!
-
Re: "Emos" now protected by "hate crime" laws
Not understanding hate speech and projecting yourself as the constant victim. While simultaneously starting race bait threads to show how hard done by you are., that is the joke Lyle. I'm sure somewhere in there you feel you are making a point, but mostly to yourself and a lowest common denominator of a potential real cause. It's actually hilarious. Not suggesting you stop, it isn't like I hang on every word you say or anything. And find it rather amusing.

Hate speech, who has said anything about that?
What's wrong with being a victim? It's a popular thing these days is it not? Are you saying I can't be a victim? That should be a hate crime! You're discriminating against me due to my race and I am highly offended by that!
Race bait threads such as what saying there were Blacks who fought for the Confederacy? How does that "bait" anyone...unless they disagree with history and feel "hard done" by what actually happened. Did I say that the slaves in the South had a great fucking time being slaves? NO! Did I say that there was 0 racism in the South? NO! So once again where was I wrong in posting what I did? Now the responses I got didn't even ask "Why wasn't I taught this?" or anything like that the responses were more unsavory broad sweeping generalizations about the South, it's culture, and history.
Yes, it IS a joke this law is a joke, "hate crime" legistlation in general is a joke because if I kill someone who is black regardless of motive I should be punished the same as if I kill someone who is white or hispanic or asian or what have you, to have the law read otherwise makes the lives of certain people worth harsher or more leniant punishment and that my friend is INEQUALITY and I for one thought inequality is bad and that you should treat everyone the same regardless of skin color, sexual preference, religion, etc....but perhaps you could explain why I'm wrong about that?
You might read threads I make as if I am trying to rile people up or cause some kind of flame war, but all I wish to do is inform people and have people take some time and look at some things from a different perspective, sure I can be short with my patience (as can anyone) and I can be a bit heavy handed in my responses but some posters apparently need that in order to have a point clearly made. With this thread all I'm trying to do is say that #1 "Hate crime" legislation is idiotic murder is murder, assault is assault, robbery is robbery, there don't need to be extra laws to make the penalty worse if someone does one of those things to a person of a different race, gender, creed, ethnicity, religion, or whatever because we're all people and we should all be treated as equals and #2 Emos, goths, punks...these are CHOICES people make what is next on the "hate crime" legislation agenda? Are we going to make laws that protect people who have had plastic surgery? People who are lactose intolerant? People who like cats better than dogs? Where is the line drawn man? It's an honest and simple question, I would love for someone to use some common sense and reason and say "You know what Lyle, yeah these laws don't really make any fucking sense a person is a person and everyone is equal", what a fucking novel idea.
Perhaps my fellow posters aren't on the same wavelength as I am or there is a problem with them not fully recognizing the tone of what I write. I'm not saying the death of the emo/punk/goth girl wasn't a tragic event, it was HORRIBLE for that to happen, and hell maybe England does have a problem with people targeting goth/emo/punk people, but the result is still the same 1 HUMAN dead, not 1 Caucasian, Femal, Middle Class, Heterosexual, Agnostic or Athiest, Emo, Dyed Hair, Pierced, etc etc however many descriptive terms you wish to use HUMAN dead...all that shit is erroneous 1 person, 1 life, that's all anyone needs to know under the law. If the people are found guilty they should be guilty of murder and sentenced to life in prison or death and other than that everything else is just a moot point.

You could use a bit of what we offer in Cancommieland, Lyle. Which is a dose of lightening the fuck up and having a laugh every now and again, even at yourself. It's good for the spirits.

Mmmmm. Spirits.
Could you bullet point your previous post for me Lyle?

Re: "Emos" now protected by "hate crime" laws
Last time I checked, there's no law against hating anyone you like, as long as you keep it to yourself.
The thing I 'hate' about hate crime legislation/laws, is they were primarily designed to protect blacks from being targeted by whites, it's ironic however, that black on white crime is 7 times higher in the U.S.. Fuck yer hate crime legislation.
As for, emos, goths, punks, I say take them to the top of one of the many castles you have in England, and give them a good toss.

It's extremely difficult to understand but I'll try....
Basically everyone is equal and there's no need to make a punishment harsher just because the victim is a minority or is in some subculture group.
Allow me to ask you if I murder someone does it make a difference if the person was white, black, hispanic, asian, heterosexual, homosexual, transgendered, bisexual, fat, skinny, bald, allergic to shellfish or what have you? Murder is murder plain and simple.

You know what this is Lyle, son't you? It's discrimination! Because you're not part of a minority you're being discriminated against. Again! It's just the latest case of a litany of endless discrimination against white Christian folks, especially white Christian males. You guys have had everything against you for centuries now. Blacks, gays and other "persecuted minorities" like emos should walk a mile in your shoes so they can really understand what it's like to be the victim of discrimination and prejudice.

So these laws are about reparations then? Its about learning what its like to be a minority AFTER someone has attacked or killed them....brilliant as always
Also with this new law I can just up and decide to be punk/emo/goth ...I am wearing black today

No, they're about trying to protect people from being picked on, and in some cases killed, by ignorant dumb-as-shit members of the majority.
