its very hard to find him a good fight. Going by how poor he was tonight they are not gonna want let him near Broner, Abril or Shafikov. So I guess that only leaves Vasquez at lightweight for him.
Bogere could be a fight for him. Im suyre hed come to Scotland and would be a decent fight.
Burns will never face Broner or Vazquez now. He was getting dominated by a fringe prospect. He's lucky Gonzalez is a boricua. Cuz if he wasn't Burns is no longer champion
Im not surprised he looked this poor against an unknown.. BEing the B- level fighter that he is, he needs to stay away from elite oppositions at all costs and just milk his paper title in scotland..
No wonder his managment hid him from Broner all this time. They know his limitation.
Imagine what Vazquez would have done to him.
I think Vasquez would be an easier opponent then the chap he fought last night
Burns seems to always pull somthing out of the hat and get through fights, but can't see him going any further unless broner stays at a higher weight and vacates his belt
I guess people forget vasquez barely squeeked by his last oppponent
I don't really see Vasquez giving to much trouble for Burns. Burns has a better jab and straight hand, and would easily outscore him. Remember that Vasquez doesn't have power. Abril would be a hard fight. How about Demarco? Wow, the lightweight division sucks at the moment.
Contrary to what some B level wannabe posters think, Burns is clearly afraid of nobody and would beat Vasquez comfortably. I think he'll fight him next.
To the knockers of Ricky Burn's what more can he DO,! but only win and he has some people
are never happy. Burn's is a descent nice guy, and he can fight never here him bad mouth trash
talking BS, coming out of his mouth.
What he is a roll model for BOXING, we need more Ricky's in this sport not like a lot of the loud
mouth shit bags we have in the sport.
We can pick hole's in all fighters records, can't we he never face him he beat him when he was on
the slide etc,! remember you CAN only beat who is in-front of you.
I think burns would beat shafikov, fairly easily too, not much point fighting him just now though.. I think burns should pick some good match ups that will allow him to chase broner and then hopefully get a big money fight v broner and cash out :S..... he will make a lot of money from a broner fight and no use hiding from him even though he will probably lose..
It never ceases to amaze me just how fast people are thrown under the bus. So he had a rough night so what? He had a rocky 8 months having fights canceled and a switch in promoters. He probably took this guy as lightly as we did never mind the style. He still persevered and showed amazing heart. Champions have bad nights. Its part of the sport. I'm sure at the time that Paul Pender had no business being in the ring with Robinson let alone beating him twice.
Burns just needs to keep on the same road map. He's got an optional now and he might want to use it or go for Abril or Vazquez. I don't see Broner coming back to 135 and he was all wrong for Ricky before Saturday and still is.
THey are thrown under a bus just as quick as they are put on a high horse. Seriously, people talk about Ricky like he was world class and giving him a chance against Broner. He has one name on his record, Martinez, where he fought well but struggled. He then looked good against average fighters. He was over hyped and this is what happens to overhyped fighters.
No offense but that's pretzel logic. When someone lost in eras gone by it was no big deal and when someone had a bad night it was no big deal either. You name me a great and I 'll tell you about a bad night he had. Tendler boxed Leonards ears off the first time they met. So? And tell me about all these other world class fighters that are not Ricky Burns. He's a world class fighter period! or he would not be where he is today. If he's a paper tiger then so are most of the other trinket holders. I reject the notion that unless you dominate all the time without issue you are not world class. Thats simply a crock of shit.
We not in those eras no more. Different times. Different perceptions. Things are looked at differently. I agree with you that a fighter doesn't have to dominate all the time. And bad nights do happen. But he's right on Burns. He''s a title holder. But he's no where close to being a very good fighter. He's mediocre at best. Forget the Gonzalez fight. Bad night or not good fighters don't lose to Alex Arthur. They just don't
Wait a minute. The Arthur fight was 7 years ago. Boxing is littered with fighters that lose at a low level before winning in higher class. Why? Because many IMPROVE. The novice Burns that lost to Arthur wouldn't have beat Martinez, Katsidis, Moses, Gonzales, Mitchell, Gomez etc.
Burns is no way close to being an P4P fighter. However, he's a proven very good fighter in a weak division.
So what. It makes little difference what era it is. This is boxing not tiddly winks and on any given night you can look bad or get beaten by a lesser opponent. Upsets happen. Its part of the sport and has been since they came off the grappling mat. The fact of the matter is it says a lot about boxing fans that they would just chuck a guy to the curb after years of hard work because he had a bad night. Many many champions and many in the hall of fame have had worse nights then Ricky did and against lessor opponents. How did Chavez lose to Randall? The only guy Randall fought prior to Sr was a washed up shot Rosario.
I know his style is loathed by many, and probably for good reason if I'm honest, but I think Vasquez might just be the best lightweight out there. I think he boxes Burns' head off when they meet. Credit to Burns if they unify with Vasquez next. If he were able to beat Vasquez, I would give him a lot of credit.
Burns was lucky in his last fight, he needs to have a rematch. :)
