David Price knocked out AGAIN by Tony Thompson...
KO in round 5. Ref stops the fight off of a standing 8. Why did they give Price that fight against Thompson???
That was boneheaded stupid. I hope they didn't ruin that young man's career. They didn't even damage Tyson Fury that early...
So: Fury vs. Thompson?

Re: David Price knocked out AGAIN by Tony Thompson...
Exciting and entertaining scrap. Kudos to both men. Thompson is too much experienced for Price.

Tyson Fury was fighting better opponents earlier in his career than Price. He fought McDermot after only being a pro 8 months, ok some felt he lost but he fought him again and deffinitly beat him. Fury has learnt the hard way whereas Price was protected for a reason.

Re: David Price knocked out AGAIN by Tony Thompson...
Good fight. Price was done when Thompson got up in the 2nd. He caught him with his best punch and couldn't put him away. His confidence left him right after

But Price fought McDermot after 12 fights, not that much difference between Fury and his 8 pro fights. Plus Price ko'd McDermot in the first round....

It took Price 3 years to get to McDermot. Fury fought him in his first year as a pro when McDermot still wanted to fight;)

I don't think it made much difference. But then again, Price is only in his 15th fight. He shouldn't have been in there, at this time, with Thompson... McDermot is no Thompson. Not at all.

I'm glad you made a thread with a title which gives away the result of the fight. No need to use the pre existing Price -Thompson thread stickied at the top of the page. Tut tut

His career has moved slower than Furys. Fury fought Chisora in his 15th fight and that was after only 3 years... It took Price 4 to get the balls to fight above british retired jouneymen (Chisora was supposed to be Wlads opponent at that time but Wlad pulled out)

Probably not best to logon to a boxing forum if you are trying to avoid finding out the result of a boxing match though ;D

Re: David Price knocked out AGAIN by Tony Thompson...
LOLOLOL... we are on top of these things. Breaking news, breaking news!
:p

Re: David Price knocked out AGAIN by Tony Thompson...
Pretty much the result I expected.
You can't go from fighting useless British journeymen to a legitimate world class fighter and expect to win - especially when you are as limited as Price is.
Never rated the guy in the first place and his lack of punch resistance and poor stamina confirm that he is European level at the absolute best. Basically, any reasonable heavyweight who can take a punch is going to walk straight through Price.
No idea where he goes from here, but there's no way he will get anywhere near a world title. Fury would probably take him apart as well.

Re: David Price knocked out AGAIN by Tony Thompson...
TT now has some very interesting and lucrative options. Does he go after Vitali so that he can have the distinction of having been put to sleep by both brothers? Does he fight Fury in what could be a mega purse for both? Does he go on some kind of Euro tour? Haye?
Thing is, he has become a very good earner and is making a ton of money. He can make one last big killing or he can stretch it out some, but either way, he can earn BIG money. Good for him.
And for those who thought the fix was in, hardly, Price is now yesterday’s news. Too bad, because I though he could be “somebody.”

Re: David Price knocked out AGAIN by Tony Thompson...
Wow!
This surprises me as I figured the young tall gun would make the necessary adjustments and get the ol' tough fatty.
Good for Thompson, very bad for Price.
I really thought pre-Thompson 1 that Price was the far superior prospect to Tyson Fury.
Now, Fury is sittin pretty. I say Tony should fight Fury next. Only makes sense.

Agreed, but Fury is obviously a hell of a lot tougher and has a better engine. Both he and Price are huge, cumbersome and lacking variety, and in fairness Thompson is a hell of a lot better than anyone Tyson has fought yet. Haven't been paying attention, but if Fury-Haye isn't looking likely Thompson should absolutely gun for that fight.

I did also, but tbh I still say he smashes Fury.
It sure what happened, he seemed to just run out of steam, but he didn't do a hat deal.
I suspect he cut corners on the road work.

Re: David Price knocked out AGAIN by Tony Thompson...
Tony thompson is a good boxer, he always has been, I dont know why people have been so quick to bash him in the past, he put in a good showing v wlad first time round, showed his age the 2nd time but he's still got sometihng left obviously, hats off to tony I hope he makes some big money before he retires

Re: David Price knocked out AGAIN by Tony Thompson...
Losing like that was worse than having a china chin exposed. He basically got tired and quit.

Re: David Price knocked out AGAIN by Tony Thompson...
Styles make fights , Price can still play a part , he is tall powerful and has glass jaw , this loss hasn't told us anything we didn't already know.
-
Such a shame.
David should have been sparring long rounds and working on stamina.
He needs to really review what path he goes down now.

It told me he didn't train any harder, he was fucked! He didn't look as in shape as normal but was lighter?
Someone who is destined for great things would have trained like fuck and been a machine.

Re: David Price knocked out AGAIN by Tony Thompson...
All the road work and sparring in the world wouldn't have changed anything last night guys. It was mental not physical.
Mentally he wasn't able to cope with trying to come back and beat a guy that chinned him. He blew up/short circuited, whatever you want to call it. It had nothing to do with not being physically fit.

He shouldn't have been in there for the first fight... jmo...

Only his team will know if he trained hard , he may just have poor stamina as well as a glass jaw. I never thought he was going to be a great , however he still is exciting.

Re: David Price knocked out AGAIN by Tony Thompson...
Thompson had a solid game plan he pressured Price very well. Price did take some good shots without wobbling early on. I think Price needs a psychological overhaul he accepted defeat too easily. This fight reminded me of Wlad-Brewster I. I think Price was defeated as soon as Thompson stood up from the knockdown... end of round 2 and Price let him escape.

Re: David Price knocked out AGAIN by Tony Thompson...
Price is overrated and rushed way to quickly into the spotlight against a veteran southpaw who has better skills and can adapt. And I'm not exactly sure what Lewis did to him but he made Price a 1 handed fighter who's jab and cardio were non existent. It makes me appreciate the Klitschko's that much more because they know how to use their size and brain. Advice to Price is fly under the radar, stay away from Lewis and find a trainer that can mold you into a more complete big man.
-
Re: David Price knocked out AGAIN by Tony Thompson...
Price tired too quickly something was wrong with him, Thompson landed some body shots but his attacks were not that great. Price just needs to rebuild at a domestic level and start working on his conditioning.

Price will recover if he truly loves boxing. I still think he beats Fury. I think he is on the right track with Lewis but he rushed into the rematch. Fight someone like Fres Oquendo next a good boxer light on power and not too sturdy.
It took Wladimir a long time to get where he is. In hindsight these setbacks could be great for Price provided he learns from them

Price was my big hope for the heavyweight world title. He clearly hasn't got it. He looked so good against those guys who didn't punch back.
-
Re: David Price knocked out AGAIN by Tony Thompson...
Ftr if I was him I would take another career path but this is simply not that big a deal in the division or in boxing. The best observation made on the night was actually made by Thompson. To paraphrase, you are not going to make a Lennox Lewis overnight.
I noticed right away that Price had his body turned different(Lennox like) and for some reason was not
getting his lead foot on the outside. He's still a work in progress. I think he tried to change to much and when it worked to get the kd and Thompson got up his brain filled with spinal fluid and he lost it upstairs.
In the end it was what his 15th fight. He never retired so if he still has the will to fight and copy the style of Lewis/ Wlad then he should take the time and do it.
On a side note I cant believe how early these two were gassed.

Completely subjective and correct.

Re: David Price knocked out AGAIN by Tony Thompson...
Aside from Price, last night showed me one thing - How good Wladimir is. Height, reach, power gets you where? Knocked out by Tony Thompson. Wlad has so much more.
-
Re: David Price knocked out AGAIN by Tony Thompson...
He doesn't seem that broad for a guy not far off 7' tall.
He seemed like he was in full control of his career until TT KOd him in the first fight.
I wanted Price to win last night but I was almost certain he was gonna lose.
Personally I don't think he can go much further, but I still believe he would destroy Fury inside a few rounds.
Provided he gets his stamina back, because if there is one thing I give to Fury that's better than Price, it's stamina.

True. But Fury has not felt that kind of pressure. I'm almost certain he will fold when he does.
