I can't wait for Oscar De la Hoya to eat his words!!!!
I'm sick of hearing his bullshit about he made the blueprint to beat Floyd, when he lost the fight and how he's rabbiting on how Canelo is going to knock out floyd. Lets be completely honest here if canelo couldn't knock out Matthew Hatton and I think Trout won the fight against him, how is Canelo possibly going to knock out possibly one of the best defensive fighters of all time and p4p #1?
Get a grip Oscar it's not happening, floyd is going to put on a clinic and win a UD. I don't doubt canelo will make it competitive but there's no way he's beating floyd, I just can't see it happening!!
-
Re: I can't wait for Oscar De la Hoya to eat his words!!!!
I can't stand Oscar and anyone else who feels Oscar somehow made a blueprint to beat Floyd.
Oscar got outclassed by a far superior fighter. To me, the fight wasn't close. People say "ohhh Oscar was doing great in the first bit while he was jabbing, then stopped jabbing, if he kept jabbing he would have won." BULL SHIT. Floyd's greatest asset is his ability to adapt and make adjustments to what an opponent is doing. De La Hoya had the jab taken away from him, he didn't willingly stop using it.
One of the biggest myths in boxing is that Oscar gave Floyd his toughest fight and almost beat him. No he didn't, he ALMOST got a gift because people go nuts when he threw his useless "shoe shine" combos that didn't land. Oscar couldn't do shit to Floyd.
-
Re: I can't wait for Oscar De la Hoya to eat his words!!!!
Oscar came quite close didn't he tho
I remember that fight and thinking how small Floyd looked, hes grown since hasn't he?
I also thought trout was unlucky against canelo
and I think Matthew Hatton has a very good chin, you never know it might even be better than floyds
-
Re: I can't wait for Oscar De la Hoya to eat his words!!!!
JLC came close (and arguably should have got the decision). Oscar didn't do anything.
-
Re: I can't wait for Oscar De la Hoya to eat his words!!!!
Oscar is the promoter. I'm pretty sure he'd say anything if it means making more money.
Regardless of whether or not the Oscar-Floyd fight was actually close, the fact is Floyd won a close split decision, so there is a chance Canelo can win the fight even if he doesn't win.
The blueprint is to con the judges.

Oscar spouts as much BS as anyone in boxing, including Arum. Oscar is just trying to sell a fight that most people don't believe will be too competitive and will end the same way all of Floyd's fights end, Floyd by decision. The only way I see the fight going differently is if Canelo is stopped on cuts or is too winded the second half of the fight.
With regard to his fight against Floyd, Oscar did something, but he didn't win the fight, and he didn't lay a blueprint to beat Floyd. If his blueprint is just "jab," he's going to be eating a big piece of humble pie come September 14, 2013.

Re: I can't wait for Oscar De la Hoya to eat his words!!!!
does everyone really think that alverez has no chance?
yes the most likely scenario is Floyd by UD but I reckon this is as tough a test as hes had for a while
-
Re: I can't wait for Oscar De la Hoya to eat his words!!!!
To counter argue a little. I remember there was a bit of a debate on here after the fight on just how accurate, or inaccurate Floyd's own punching was.
Firstly - if I remember correctly, Floyd's accuracy (in terms of raw percentage, black and white numbers) was a little off, lower than usual.
A few or more of us here argued that Floyd was hitting gloves a fair bit, I think particularly early-on, owing to Oscars guard/ defence. He didn't move his head much (which Floyd has actually gone on record to say he was in disbelief of during the fight) but his hands were solid.
This lead me to believe that Winky would definitely beat him if they ever fought but then he quickly fell off so that idea was a long lost archive. However, I did think at the time that there was a bit of a blue print there.)
But I'd be interested to know if Floyd's accuracy in that fight has remained the lowest it has been since his fight with Dela Hoya. It would be interesting because Canelo likes to do a bit of hands-high-walk-you-down.
-
Re: I can't wait for Oscar De la Hoya to eat his words!!!!
Oscar is the phoniest twit I've ever heard, everything he says is dogshit and cringeworthy. Having said that, he did put up a good effort against Floyd and was in the fight until about the halfway point. I think a lot of that had to do with him having an equalizer in his left hook, Floyd was probably wary of forcing openings while Oscar was still fresh. Once he had timed the jab Floyd landed with a lot more authority, and all of Oscars offence boiled down to little flurries in close since he couldn't dictate range anymore, half the time he would finally get inside just to hold and flurry with one arm tiring himself out.
If there is any blueprint there, it's one for Floyd to use. I'm not sure Alvarez is as good as DLH still was at that point, and he doesn't have the big punch or experience to keep Floyd honest.
-
Re: I can't wait for Oscar De la Hoya to eat his words!!!!
Oscars just hyping the fight. If he believed what he said, he could have rematched floyd. (not like people wouldn't pay for it) Its easy to talk smack from behind a desk when someones doing the fighting for you. Oscar just has to eat crow; Canelo is the one that has to eat the leather.
Even if Floyd blanks Canelo and shuts him out. Oscar still stands to make money. Canelo will still sell in Mexico and maybe the U.S. because he will have lost to the top guy in boxing. Golden boy would still co promote with Mayweather and get a piece of change off every one of his fights. He's doing the smart thing by hyping the fight because no matter who wins and loses, his bottom line doesn't change much.
-
Re: I can't wait for Oscar De la Hoya to eat his words!!!!
No doubt, would just be nice if was a good talker in some fashion. Any idea what kind of deal/options Golden Boy have with Mayweather anyways? I've wondered this, what's in it for both to say they "co promote" everything, obviously Floyd doesn't have the same kind of pull there.
-
Re: I can't wait for Oscar De la Hoya to eat his words!!!!
Maybe the 'blueprint' was that Floyd gave Oscar the jab to get him to come to Floyd and throw other punches that are easier to counter off of.

I agree.
When i first watched it i thought it was very close and felt floyd looked tiny and his punches were just stinging oscar.
Oscar looked huge.
Then i watched it again and comfortably scored it 8-4 in floyds favour.
Floyd is a such a little guy and he looks as though you can just get in there and beat him up..
-
Re: I can't wait for Oscar De la Hoya to eat his words!!!!
Oscar has been eating his words since he lost to Floyd in 07 starting with Hatton. I imagine he is stuffed and will vomit come Sept 14th.
-
Re: I can't wait for Oscar De la Hoya to eat his words!!!!
Oscar is a promptor and he said the same crap with Guerrero and we all know what happened.
I thought Oscar won the fight against Floyd but Canelo does not have the height and reach that Oscar did he only has youth, hunger and weight. I hope he can pull it off.
-
Re: I can't wait for Oscar De la Hoya to eat his words!!!!
Oscar and Floyd are probably in cahoots at this point. Oscar probably wanted threads like this, we are talking about him.
-
Re: I can't wait for Oscar De la Hoya to eat his words!!!!
Oscar always says silly things. Plus he is orange. Never listen to orange people who say silly things.

I am serious he was dominating the early part of the fight with the jab and only tired out in the latter rounds. It was a split decision.

ha, why when there is a disagreement between boxing fans does one always say you mustn't know anything about boxing? does that happen in other sports?
its a while since I watched the fight (in fact I only watched it the once live) but I thought Oscar was leading quite clearly after the first half of the fight
I cant remember by how many rounds
Floyd did take over after the mid point but I thought that Oscar still did enough to win a round or two after that
I thought it was a very close fight and was unsure about who would win before the announcement was made
that's the closest ive ever seen Floyd to getting beat, I haven't seen the JLC fight(s)

It's funny because evidently, just the other day someone had made a comment that Floyd fans always talk about hate whenever there is a disagreement over Floyd achievements or legacy.

I remember watching the fight and seeing Floyd jab alot to Oscar's left side of the face early on. Might have had an impact on Oscar not wanting to move his head inside the jab and land his money punch.

Re: I can't wait for Oscar De la Hoya to eat his words!!!!
I watched the full fight again today how any1 can even say the fight was close is just crazy. I gave Oscar rounds 2,6,7 and 1 more round was close but I gave it to floyd. Oscar was only fighting in 1 or 2 flurys a round he just wasn't punching enough and most of his shots were missing. Floyd landed 207 shots at 43% Oscar was122 and 21% power punches floyd had138 at 57% to oscars 82 at 24% and that Judge who scored it 115 to 113 for Oscar should never be aloud to judge a fight again it was that bad.

I admit I did want Oscar to win and I know others have said it was not close Floyd won easy but I saw Oscar winning but tiring out as usual. I had Floyd winning both fights with JLCastillo.

Dude you need to learn that just because you have an opinion does not mean it's a fact. You keep referring to it as a fact. I also think Oscar kept the fight real close I had it real close for Mayweather when I first saw it and then a draw the second time. The dude has been on this forum posting for a long time for you to say he doesn't know shit. Specially when a couple of us on this thread share the same opinion. You been listening to Floyd's bullshit too long you actually starting to believe it. You think Floyd won the Castillo fight when he was badly outlanded and that's a fact.

I never said anything was fact all I said was I honestly don't know how anyone could say Oscar won that fight and I stand by that. Anyone who think Oscar won that fight don't know shit about boxing IMO. The Castillo fight was real close it could of went to any 1 of them I just had floyd by a point but wouldn't argue if Castillo took it by 1 point.

Exactly, plus Oscar was winning the fight and then just stopped jabbing for no known reason. Had he kept jabbing ODLH may have won. Not since ODLH has Mayweather fought a fighter that can jab he wants to use his defense to set up his offense and frustrate his opponents. As much as I talk crap about Pac it is the the fact that Pac was not a one dimensional fighter. Although not the jabber he throws unorthodox punches , has speed and power that Money shied from the fight. Problem is everyone wants the knock the lil shit out. Outside of Oscar name me an all around skilled fighter Money has fought? He has cherry picked his way through most of his career. Which recent Money opponent has had the ability to jab ? Canelos power and concentrated body attack is actually going to be used to jab in the later rounds. The less Canelo looks for the KO the better I like his chances. Another reason is Mayweather usually has adjusted by this time to his opponent. So Oscar just spilled the beans. Castillo like concentration to the body but with boxing skills to keep him from adjusting. Being one dimensional will not beat Money. We are probably going to see the real Canelo that has been purposely been kept under wraps for future $$$$$$$.
